  • Really good price. I have however noticed the Soda King ones (I use them in a Soda Stream) are often really grotty and tarnished at the valve.
Often have to clean them up before using

    • Not in the Sunmy Coast.

  • Gas Refill Swap $12.60

Billy Bubbles is only $10 and includes more gas.

    • Very limited delivery area. Delivery is $5. Hopefully they actually make money - otherwise you end up purchasing Billy Bubbles gas bottles @ $25 a pop that noone else (sodastream, sodaking) will touch.

So unless you're in Greater Melbourne, you're out of luck. That sounds pretty limited to me.

      • Delivery is $5.

works out at < $1 per bottle for us.
        of free with referral code

Also, you get more gas in each bottle

        • An empty Sodastream bottle weighs 760grams. A full should be 1160grams or more assuming they topped up with the usual 400grams of CO2.
You noted that you get more gas, so what weight are the refilled bottles (assuming they are Sodastream bottle refills)?

          • +1

            @Borg:

assuming they topped up with the usual 400grams of CO2.

Billy Bubbles tops up with 450g of CO2. (12.5% more gas)

            • +1

@jv: I live in Sydney so no options for me.$10 (+ delivery) for 450gr of Co2 is decent indeed.

I fill my own via a larger 2.6KG cylinders which works out even cheaper ($8.22 per 450gr) but does require my effort (freezing sodastream bottles etc) and initial outlay! If they had $10 refills locally would certainly have gone that way.

Good price and they never ask for the empty one for C&C (packaged up). Don't want too many empty ones on the go or defeats the purpose of recycling them.

Worth doing C&C collect just to save the fk around, as none of the staff ever know about these for some reason.

    • Are you saying if I currently have three empties, i can make a C&C order for four refills and they wont even really check that I am bringing in the empties to swap? Thanks for your help!

      • +1

Yes, mine never does as it's wrapped up ready to collect.

Also saying it's a bit pointless having too many empty ones lying around.

        • Just ordered 4 but I dont even have 4 empties
will see if they let me to just grab instore for C&C

    • This information is useless without the store information, some store like my local one went as far as cancelling the order if you try to do that.

      • A couple in Queensland that I have been to and another family member. The staff are so disorganised regarding Sodaking that it's never an issue. Click and collect - they don't open the package again or ask for old one.. give it a go.. or just take empty one if you have it.

        • That's been my experience in Maroochydore (Qld) and Bondi Junction (NSW); so not a state thing.

      • Don't know what to say.. no issues again took about 2 min

Go in, head to the Click & Collect counter - hi I've got a click and collect.
Hi, do you have an order number?
        Yes, give it to them.
Ok, just a minute, (comes back with the order in a bag with stickers on the front… Asks to see ID.
        Thanks, and on your way.

It's much easier and quicker than going in and taking the old one as the staff never seem to know anything about Sodaking swaps lol.

Did the Kegland mod and never going back to these tiny bottles

    • Did it take long to set up and how difficult did you find it? Just emptied a Sodastream bottle and considering going the kegland route.

      • Took about half an hour, pretty easy. Depends where you want it

    • Probably a bit hard putting that under a bench top without drilling (plus the extra space it takes up).

      • Yes, the mod required hole saws and modding the Sodaking unit. Pretty easy if you have the tools and know what you're doing. The bottle isn't that big, probably 150mm taller than this bottle but about 3 times wider

    • rosebank, I have the Kegland hose and find with full cylinders that there is more pressure that I appreciate when carbonating. It settles down as the cylinder empties. Have you experienced this?
      Cheers!

      • Yes, the pressure is much higher, but I like my water super fizzy. When I unscrew the bottle, I have to be really slow and careful, otherwise it sounds like a bomb went off. But I did that even with the smaller bottles. The Kegland just requires less presses

    • Where did you buy your cylinder? Where do you refill it? How much does it cost you per 60L (for comparison sake)?

      • kegland 2.6kg swapngo i used to pay $20. If you don't have the bottle, a 2.6kg bottle are $69 (filled with gas).

        • $36 for a refill in Sydney Hop&Grain. There are cheaper places further out. That's 6.5 refills……approx $5.58 per 400grams of CO2 (60L).

The hassle is getting the CO2 from the big bottle into the smaller ones. The more you take out, the less the preasure so one never gets to fully fill each soda stream bottle after the first three. That's fine though.

Oh…..and you need to freeze your Sodastream bottle in advance. The colder it is then the more gas it will accept.

            • @rosebank: Makes sense, pretty fiddly and no point getting a bottle refill then filling up a smaller bottle (unless you want totally stock / cordless benchtop setup).

              • @G-rig: Or if you want to do it this way, get the 6kg. When I need a refill, I'm going to try and swap my 2.6kg for a larger tank

                • @rosebank: sounds alright, you woudln't need to worry about it for ages, where as you get about 3x 60L out of a 200L (2.6kg) bottle.

my mate already uses the 2.6kg for his kegerator, so if he gets the adapter we could refill the smaller ones at least instead of going to spotlight (gave him spare empty 60L one).

                  • @G-rig: Yeap. As noted earlier, the emptier the 2.6kg cylinder is, the less gets transferred to Sodastream bottle.

      • Hose: https://www.kegland.com.au/products/freedomone-sodastream-ad…

        Longer hose: https://www.kegland.com.au/products/freedomone-sodastream-ad… OOS

        2.6kg tank: https://www.kegland.com.au/products/co2-gas-cylinders-2-6kg-…

        6kg tank: https://www.kegland.com.au/products/co2-gas-cylinders-6kg-fu…

I haven't worked out the cost per/L but it's cheaper than the cylinders in this post, haven't had to refill my 2.6L yet but there's a place near my house but probably $20-30

Edit: so these cylinders have 400g CO2. It's early but if my math is correct, one 2.6kg = 6.5 x 400g cylinders. So let's say you load up on these for $7.60 on sale, that's about $50 per 2.6kg. I'm not sure about the refill cost but it'd be significantly less than $50. I did it more for the convenience and I like messing around with shit. I should have bought the 6kg bottle in hindsight, because I have the room for it and it's the same amount of work.

        • If you had space and use a lot of gas then yes. Plus you would have got more FULL refills easier due to there being more CO2 (pressure) in the 6KG bottle.

You asked (above) why I don't connect a hose from 2.6kg direct to the Soda Stream. I do have that connector hose but I ended up not wanting a big bottle in view. I have lots of empty Sodastream bottles so just fill them in one hit.

I also have the parts which allow me connect the 2.6KG cylinder to any empty soda bottle e.g. empty coke bottle. In turn can fill those with "any" liquid and make them fizzy.

  • Sodaking gas refills are compatible with older Sodastream machines.

So how old is old? or Is there anyway to tell? or At what point did they become"newer machines" ?

    Thanks

    • +3

The newer models use the "quick connect" cylinders while the older machines (still being sold for now) use the screw in cylinders.

      https://sodastream.com.au/products/spare-cylinder

      • Cool, mine are screw in. 👍

        • Yes it's fine, they probably did it to ensure the cheaper Sodaking ones aren't interchangeable.

    • +1

Blue ones (i.e. non-pink) are compatible as JaeTee said

  • +1

$7.60 a bottle is the best I've ever seen in 10 years of owning a SodaStream machine. Thanks, OP.

  • Order got refunded 😞
