I wonder if Optus is giving up on this stuff, whole lot of home smart things on sale.

Considering all the companies that are backing away from smart speakers and such, it wouldn't surprise me.

New google range incoming soon. Not sure if that includes the doorbell

    • Yeah definitely been reading on a new smart display which I'm keen for. Probably a new doorbell but unsure how much will change feature-wise.

    • Where did you see this info? Im struggling to find anything (doorbell and cameras)

  • Hmmm this or the Ring 4. Or the EUFY. Or the Arlo.

    Decisions decisions.

Don’t buy EUFY. It doesn’t do live stream either on Google Nest Hub or Amazon Echo Show. Go for Google or Ring.

      • Wow interesting and yeah that rules it out for me.

I don't need an actual Google Nest to use the Google Nest bell do I? Can just view on phone?

        • +1

Yes. But its handy to have a Google display around to immediately see who is at the door

      • +1

Not true. It works when you ask Google to show you the doorbell. It just doesn't auto stream on doorbell press for some weird reason

        • +2

Thats what I meant. It doesn’t show live stream when someone rings the bell. Only shows live stream if you ask it to. Kind of kills the whole purpose of a video door bell.

    • Have you compared subscription (Arlo, Ring 4) vs non sub (Eufy and limited functions with Nest).

I looked into replacing my doorbell.
I ended up with a Ring 3, got it when it was on sale at Costco.
I think the Eufy dual looked good, and didn't require cloud subscription, but was very pricey.
Google has a very strong track record of doing an "end of life" to any product at any time.
I would imagine the Google Nest doorbell might be good for a few years and then bye bye, and I personally feel the Ring has a better chance of being around longer.
    YMMV.

oh, and check out youtube videos showing that the Nest can easily be wrenched from the holder.

    • Does Ring doorbells show automatic livestream on Google Hub or Echo show displays whenever someone rings the bell?
EUFY doesn't support that I know.

  • Does this deal stack with this AMEX Optus offer?
