Was comparing this Connect Air with the Airfly Pro, the latter having lots of negative reviews (on Officeworks website, nearly all negative - connection issues, lag, etc). The Connect Air has decent 4 star reviews across Amazon and Google. So thought I'd give it a go.

Once received I tested it, the pairing was super quick, and the audio was crisp and clear, with only a minor latency - like 1/10th of a second. If you're not focused on the lips of people speaking, you won't even notice as it's such a tiny lag. Tested with MacBook Air M1 3.5mm output to AirPods Pro 2. Planning on using it in-flight.

The device is super light and surprisingly small compared to the Amazon photos (where it looks bigger/fatter than the Airfly Pro. It's literally half the width of the AirPods case. It's also cheaper than the Airfly. However, unlike the Airfly Pro, it doesn't have a Receiver mode. I don't have a use case for that anyway so didn't bother me.

MEE audio are experts in their domain (I believe) so would have a lot more experience than Airfly with audio electronics, so I'm not surprised the reviews rate them higher.

Beautiful purchase (so far). Will fully test in-flight and will report back if any issues arise, and to test real use battery life.

  • Theres generic ones on Ali express for half the price which are quite good quality too.

    • Link please?

      • I Tried posting links but it wont let me.

but if you go and do a search theres plenty.

Even Amazon has one with 4.5 star rating from 3000+ reviews

      • Just search "bluetooth airline". Plenty at ~$18. I've recently bought one and they are great when paired with earphone with ANC. But I do have to pair it everytime which takes 2 seconds.

    • I’ve bought 2 of these kinds in the past and they’re quite poor quality. Difficult to pair, drops out often and crackling noises. Even the build are poor, buttons gets stuck. Maybe I had bad luck but if the manufacturer aren’t audio experts I’m a little skeptical (looking at their product lines and history, plus user reviews).

  • Thanks for the detailed description. I’ve been looking for a quality transmitter for flying and the reviews of both the airfly pro and the cheap ones referenced by the others above are hit and miss.

  • I have the Airfly Pro, it's not reliable with Airpods Pro (2nd gen) — sometimes takes multiple attempts to connect, and also drops connection on one side intermittently. I think I read somewhere it's a known issue with Airpods Pro (2nd gen). And when it worked you can tell there's something wrong with the connection — it sounds tinny and mono-ish.

Also tried it with Bose QC 45s, which was rock solid and sounds like a wired connection.

    • I've not used with airpods, but with a xm3/xm4 connected it has been flawless for me. Got mine for free via Telstra Rewards as well.

  • I purchased this about 12 months ago and they are GREAT !!!
Work perfectly on my Airpods Pro 2 on MANY domestic and international flights.
Have used them with Sony WH1000XM4 headphones without a hitch.
Pairing is easy and setup clearly explained in instructions.
    HIGHLY recommend.

  • After flying international, happy to report there was actually no latency or very very very little more like 1/100th of a second. Really clear audio and no interruptions even while I walked around the cabin within 10m. Quick connection no fuss. The swipe volume control on the AirPods stem worked perfectly.

Only issue is don’t plug in the dongle fully into the airplane 3.5mm Jack to get left and right sound. Plug fully in and you only get left sound. This is the design of that airplane jack unfortunately. It wasn’t an issue being only half in, it was in deep enough to hold and not fall off even with a minor bump. I don’t know if there are adapters that can fix this but when I tried my Bose airplane adapter it was the same issue.
