  • Rank and Configuration = 1Rx8 or 2Rx8

    Luck of the draw?

    • It seems so.

    • So, looking around, if you need to be sure to get 2Rx8 there this deal that is now down to 117 - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/757426

Or the Kingston stick mentioned by @ChatGPT is 118 plus shipping for a pair at umart.

Everyone's buying this kit after watching Jarrod's videos and then getting stung because Micron don't separate their single rank (Taiwan) and dual rank (Mexico) stock

If dual rank is a hard requirement, get Kingston as they are the only ones who guarantee rank by part number

Got a link to that video handy? I'm keen to learn more.

    • Interested in what video you are referring to.
I didn't think the rank of the memory affected performance

Micron don't separate their single rank (Taiwan) and dual rank (Mexico) stock

      They do and they don't.

      CT2K16G4SFS832A Single rank x8 (1Rx8)
      CT2K16G4SFD832A Dual rank x8 (2Rx8)
‎CT2K16G4SFRA32A Random rank, but always x8 with this model (1Rx8 or 2Rx8)
    • Are there really any benefits in getting the dual rank? As I understand it may be marginally faster in some tasks, but slower in others. And it runs hotter, which may be an issue in laptops.

The biggest factor is just having two sticks (the same size). Then having x8 and not x16. From the video it seems that single/dual rank is least important. That's gaming fps. FWIW I found that two single rank 2400Mhz sticks are faster than one dual rank 3200Mhz stick (geekbench multicore and compute, single core was the same).

  • I've been happy with this lot.

  • R5-5600H / RTX 3050-4GB Laptop, not sure if this is worth the upgrade over already installed 2X8GB 3200MHz.

Edit: I just read that DDR4 is in oversupply, good chance of continued reductions in price.

  • That is cheap!
