You say it as if they are in the same category.

      It’s also $2k cheaper… (something like 35% cheaper)

No mechanical shutter at all on this thing is an incredible place to try and economise at over 3 grand.

      • +1

How would a mechanical shutter benefit this video camera?

      • +1

this camera is highly comparable to a7s3 which has a mechanical shutter but lowest price generally over 4 grand, z1 newly released expect price will drop further 6-12 months down the line

a7s3 benefits; viewfinder, mechanical shutter, better heat management

z1 benefits; better autofocus due to dedicated ai processing chip, smaller size/weight (removal of mechanical shutter/viewfinder helps this)

other than different IO everything is almost the same other than software benefits of the z1 which could be added to a7s3 via firmware updates

if you want better photo features in a video camera is $1000 worth it

Tracks all the same, have had multiple price matched transactions paid out at Cheddar. My last ones were just paid out a week ago for two transactions done in March.

Not like its really much more of a gamble than Cashrewards/Shopback anyway, you'll see plenty of comments about them too in previous Sony deals.

        • Oh great to know, thanks for the follow up!

  • Nice! This is a great camera to replace those old video cameras/Handycams if you are into taking videos of your kids or on trips. I've been using my mobile phone for videos, but it does have limitations.

Keep in mind, that you also need to budget some money for a good lens. If you ever wished your DSLR would have the smarts of your mobile phone's camera (multiple image layering in low light without tripod, noise reduction, better auto focus in video mode), then this the one to have at this time.

    • If you're doing videos on your mobile phone but want the workflow of these types of cameras then you need to check out Xperia phones.

I've been using the Videography app and it's like an in-between shooter but also the versatility of something in your pocket. Shots are made exactly as you want it and there's no second guessing what comes out.

      • Without some sort of ND filter add-on, it is pointless. Tried on Xperia 5 II and overexposure galore outdoors.

        • Yes that's why I said it's like an in-between shooter. The apps are great. But mobile phones ultimately do not replace a simple great camera like this ZV1.

    • hmmm no view finder, so if bright sun is behinds your back its a hard to read display panel …..
