What does closest mean? the closet to the year or km? say a 90,000km car from 2004 is 90,000km or 380 months? 90,000km is the closest?

    • +1

Servicing is done by km or time, whichever comes first.

      • -3

        so which IS first?

        • 90,000 i'm guessing

        • +1

Well 380 months is nearly 32 years, so probably not that when put next to 90,000km

          • -1

            @Deceiver: 220 months i meant.

            • @ilove: A car from 2004 is likely to have had 6 monthly servicing, so it would have been 6 mn/10,000km intervals. Therefore, a 220 month service would have a km interval of 360,000km.

If the car hasn't actually reached that sort of km yet, and isn't at 90,000 either (low km!), you'd be carrying out the 220 month service 6 months after the last one, regardless of the KM, because it's due by time.

              • -1

@Deceiver: so do I select 90,000 which is about that or 220 months?

                it's a 2004. 90,000km

oh you saying it's time. so 220 months.

                • +2

@ilove: They're saying if it was more than 360,000km then you'd use km. If it's only done 90,000km you'd use months.

If servicing is every 6 months/10,000kms then the 54month/90,000km service would already have been done a long time ago.

Basically if you do less than 10,000km every 6 months, which is probably most people, you would use the months, not the km.

*For older cars, newer cars have less frequent servicing requirements

                • -1

@ilove: @ilove if its 90k km on odometer and 2004 car I think you're supposed to pick the 90k km service as that is the first one out of the two. If you were to select the service based on months it's would translate to many more kms

                  • @Chocobros:

I think you're supposed to pick the 90k km service as that is the first one out of the two

No you're supposed to pick whichever comes first. So 220 months would be the service you do not the 90k one. You'd pick the 90k service if say you've only had the car for 24 months. You'd pick every kilometre service as that is reached first according to the schedule (because you're using your car heaps).

                    • @CVonC: Then they'd miss out on so many Logbook services…. Doesn't make sense

                      • @Chocobros: This is on the assumption that they have done all the previous services based on months too. If they haven't, then it's imperative that at least the major logbook service should be done (spark plugs, fuel filter replacement, brake fluid flush and replace, transmission fluid flush and replace, potentially timing belt/chain, etc)

        • No, who's on first.

  • Does this stack with the Black Friday $100 service voucher?

    • +1

no. T and C's says no.

  • +2

$100 discount upfront but they make it back by overcharging and over quoting you somewhere else. End up being more expensive than servicing at a dealer

    • This happened to you before at mycar?

      • +6

        Yep

        • Can also vouch for the horrendus service

          • @CheapFart: I don't understand how every MyCar near me has 4.4, 4.5, 4.7 and 4.8 rating with hundreds of users but all I hear on Ozbargain is that they're a scam. I'm in WA btw. Is it different here? Or are they able to delete bad reviews?

            • +1

@ccir: You haven't heard of fake reviews? Not everything is safe and genuine like ozb u know!! ;)

              • @ggbhai: Of course I have. But it's either bot generated which you can easily tell, or it's people who have only 1 review, usually mates with the owner. These branches have 200-600 reviews and a lot of the 5 star come from local guides. Is that fake too? Genuinely asking.

                • +3

@ccir: Judging from people I know, they probably overcharge and overquote on work that doesn't need doing, to people who don't know any better.

I have friends who go there and think it's perfectly normal that their car is costing them insane amounts.

Only after we talked did they realise this is actually insanity

            • @ccir: Heres a link of reviews for the store near me in VIC, possibly its the worst in Australia
              https://au.trustpilot.com/review/mycar.com.au/location/carru…

    • I do agree with you.

    • +1

I second this. online quote was $100-200 more than quote I received over the phone…

  • -1

When is the mycar boxing day 50% off the sale starting? My tyres are fked on metal

    • +24

My guess would be the Boxing Day sale starts on Boxing Day…..

      • +3

        Big if true.

    • +1

When is Christmas? I need a new Xbox

      • +1

it's the day before Boxing Day

    • +1

the 50% off pirelli is actually a Black Friday and EOFY sale

  • +5

Broken website. Crashes when you get your quote.

    • Yeah I had the same issue

I entered details and it gave an error message and didn’t provide the quote

    • Hey this should now be resolved, if your problem persists contact our Customer Service team on 13 13 28.

  • +1

Get an error when trying to grab a quote…

    • Same here, still showing error despite trying multiple times

  • Seems to crash if a service is “major” and it doesn’t know what to quote you. If it’s just a standard service it seems to usually work.

    • By “standard” do you mean a non logbook service?

      • A service that’s basically just an oil change and a check over.

        • But then isn’t that not a “log book” service and therefore ineligible for the $100 off?

  • +8

Be aware that they will tell and ask you 100% of the time that your wipers are worn and need replacing lol.

    • +7

      And brake pads 🙄🥱

    • +1

Maybe 99.9%…. I asked them to check my wipers last service and they told me they were fine and didn't need a change!

  • +1

Did a quote for my civic logbook service fee 3days before . The quote was $890.

    • what year?

    • +1

Get a new one and tell us the difference.

  • +5

Took my 2012 camry there last week so missed out on this one.

If you get a wheel alignment, do you expect a report? Every time i've had a wheel alignment done this has been provided.

I received no report. Rang back and they tell me that the printer is broken. My suspicion is that they didn't do it at all.
I'm tempted to Karen them and ask for a refund on the wheel alignment cost at the very least.

    • I thought getting the report would be the normal standard. Tells you how far you're off, even wheel balancing report was written to say how much weights were added to each wheel.

  • +7

$100 off followed by a quote for $1500 to replace balljoints/brake rotors/water pump,… take your pick.

    • I just said no.

    • Depending on the car for $1500 for ball joints, 4? Rotors and water pump could be good value.

  • +1

Beware, they can’t access the electronic logbooks on euro cars, so you’ll be shit out of luck removing the service errors and so on

  • I found Mycar's google review increased a lot now — my local stores should have around 3 in 2019 when I checked but now they are all about 4.2 - 4.3

    • +3

Last time I went (which was the last time- my local one had a new manager and was terrible!), they were offering a small discount for people who leave a five star review. That probably helps the higher ratings.

  • I had my servicing done last time, even when I asked they did not provide any info about roadside assistance nor did they send any email later, it’s been a year since then.

  • +4

If your car is out of warrany, you're better off doing the routine servicing yourself if you can spare the time IMO

    • +1

Definitely for old cars. You can do brakes, oil change, air filter change (takes about a minute) etc and save heaps and understand how the car works also.

      • +2

Yep there's nothing to it even for the modern computers on wheels. Most services are little more than an oil change, air filter change and basic 'checks' (you'd be lucky if they did even half of them). Anyone can do this. Buy good quality oil 1/2 price and visit the dealer for filters if you want genuine (marginally more expensive than aftermarket in my experience), keep your material receipts, note the service in the book and all will be fine. About $100 in parts and an hour of your time. Beats paying $400+ and leaving your car all day at a mechanic.

        • I agree. For an absolute beginner, it will take more than an hour etc especially researching how to remove this and that. For my ancient RAV4, I do oil /oil filter changes without a jack because the car is enough off the ground already!

  • +1

Just keep getting "Error while fetching details. Please try again." when trying to book

    • Hey this should now be resolved, if your problem persists contact our Customer Service team on 13 13 28.

  • ordered, thanks, seems like a good deal.

  • +1

I got an error after entering the details of my car - A 2017 Mitsubishi Triton ute. Nothing special.

"It’s either so new we don’t have the logbook data, a nice high-end car with a complicated logbook, or simply an enigma! We’ll work on getting it bookable online as soon as possible"

It then states that I need to call to book it in and that "Unfortunately the $100 off logbook promotion won’t be applicable for non-online bookings"

Well, it is now not very bargainy and i'll just get my service done at the usual spot!

  • +1

Lol, $600 for oil change and take pictures! PASS

    • You mean only $500 with this amazing discount /s.

  • -1

no actually I think it came down to $560-ish.
    But for sure AMAZING!

  • I got quoted on a 100,000km service on a car that hadn't been serviced for 5 years and it wouldn't even include an oil change, just a top up.

  • "Error while fetching details. Please try again." If it can't provide a quote the deal is unobtainable..

    • Yep, I enter all details, get to the kms, select the interval, then get the same error:
"Error while fetching details. Please try again."

    • I got that initially… try using Microsoft Edge or another browser with no ad blocking on.

    • Hey this should now be resolved, if your problem persists contact our Customer Service team on 13 13 28.

  • No one is stupid enough to go there right?

  • Same as what NRMA do. Give you a $100 discount and then slug you $500 for a minor service. Never again, I'll stick to Midas!

  • +1

This sort of thing is not worth it. It's like getting a massage for $20 off. You know they will short change on time or quality of massage.

For service, they will just charge you $100 for wipers, and wiper fluid. Discount be gone!

  • +1

@sallyj - also having the issue with errors when trying to obtain a quote. OP could you please help?

  • would it be a idea to have CRV 30k logbook service done in Mycar?

    • +4

That would definitely be an idea.

    • 30k logbook should be still under Honda service plan. Isn't it cheaper to go to Honda?? For toyota it is about $215.

      • $340 from Honda dealer, and $220 - 100 from Mycar

        • Mycar all the way! Next time get a toyota. cheaper service.

          • @Naigrabzo: Toyota are twice a year service for most models aren’t they? You pay more upfront for their cars too.

Much prefer my Pug. 12mth/15,000km servicing and I just alternate Indy servicing and DIY. Cheap and straightforward.

            • @nubzy: No. RAV4 2021 - once a year or 15k. $215 fixed price.

My rav4 2004 - has not been formally serviced for 10 years. I do oil changes myself every 5k though. it's got 304k.

  • +1

So I compared the quote from mycar with AutoGuru and what a surprise, myCar quote on autoguru is about $80 cheaper…$270 after discount directly from mycar or $189 through autoguru.

  • Annoyingly they show my next due service as a major one when it's not according to what needs to be done in the logbook (just changing oil, filter, fluids)

  • so just got a quote.. price was ok .. but they dont even change the oil? only a top up? wtf?

i think i'll just give it a go and service it myself.. oil change and check stuff.

    • You didn't question them about it?

But yeah doing minor services like oil/fluid and filter changes is pretty easy tbh.

      • Just quote on the website… my usual mechanic quoted like 380 for a service so I'll just spend 80 bucks on materials and do it myself.

    • +1

It's a Logbook service so surely they change oil and filter and top up is for other fluids.

States in my Logbook oil and filter change…
