Qantas Green Tier (50 Status Credits or 10,000 QFF Points) for $21 + 2880 QFF Points + Flight Emission Offset (from $1) @ Qantas

1610
FIRSTSHOP

You should be able to achieve 3 out of the 5 leaves required for Qantas Green Tier with 2880 points and $21, by adding the coupon FIRSTSHOP at checkout along with the following products to your cart:

https://ibb.co/Wffq5J1

This is a saving of 320 points. Code expires May 11. You will also earn 210 points for these purchases.

For the 4th leaf, the cheapest option would be to offset a short domestic flight (starts from $1), however you can also stay at an eco-friendly hotel (which isn't great value). You can offset an existing flights you have booked (but not yet flown) here: https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/my-account/booki…

For the 5th (and final leaf), you can complete the Sustainability Quiz in the Wellbeing App. If you have already completed this quiz in previous years, it may not be available to you in the app, in which case you can contact the Qantas Loyalty Team on 131131 or send them an email via [email protected] and ask them to manually add the leaf for you if you have already completed 4 out of the 6 leafs.

If you want to read up more on Green Tier, see https://www.pointhacks.com.au/qantas/best-ways-to-earn-green… or https://thechampagnemile.com.au/how-to-reach-qantas-green-ti…

Once you achieve Green Tier, you have 90 days to choose whether you would like to receive 50 Status Credits or 10,000 QFF Points.

Unfortunately for myself, I made the relevant purchases on Qantas Marketplace yesterday without putting in the code, so missed out on redeeming this offer, but hopefully it can help others.

A fantastic method to earn another 50 SCs to go towards your current status attainment or retainment. They also count towards Lifetime Status, edging closer to 75k every day.

Maybe not a "deal" post, better in the dedicated Travel Forum as in the past it has been cheaper to attain Green Tier.

    • +4

Yes unfortunately Qantas have made some detrimental changes to Green Tier recently:

-Removed the Sustainability Quiz from earning a leaf
-Increasing the cost of Tasmanian Carbon Offset (which is the cheapest state to offset car and home) from $15 to $20

Posted this as a deal because of the FIRSTSHOP code which allows you to save on the normal cost of redeeming the two charity redemption items.

      • -1

Yep, but anywho - waiting for the Anti Qantas Group to comment ;)

      • I guess I still have the old criteria, because I still see the sustainability quiz (which I did ages ago, but none of the others)—my membership year ends in July so I guess mine will change after that.

I'm nowhere near having enough SCs to move up so will take the 10k points — looks like I can achieve green tier at no cost and a net +ve points outcome if selecting that option so bit of a no brainer. Thanks for posting!

One question though — re: the home offset. Do you actually have to live in TAS? (Do they check?)

        • Same got the old criteria, this deal would however only give 3 leaves though since both donations are under the same category in old criteria

      • The sustainability quiz is still there as one of the 6 categories in the leaf challenges.

        • Might still be there to get a few Qantas points, but I don't think it counts towards Green Tier any more :(

          • @JHoliday: What makes you think it's no longer included, if it's still listed in the category challenges?

            • @wizzlesticks: They have made some changes in 2023 as to how Green tier is achieved

              https://www.pointhacks.com.au/qantas/best-ways-to-earn-green…

              • +2

@JHoliday: That article looks out of date. According to Qanas, you only need to complete 1 donation (out of 4 choices). Making 2 donations will only count to 1 leaf. And the wellness quiz still counts as 1 leaf (because it's in its own different category).

                • +1

@wizzlesticks: When I said I still see the quiz, I meant that I still see it in my green tier categories. It’s marked green and says “you have completed 1/5 activities towards achieving green tier this membership year”.

My interpretation is that at some point QF changed the categories but depending on when your membership year rolls over you may still see the old ones. In my case my year changes in July, so I see the old categories with the quiz and all the 4 donations grouped under a single heading. If your membership year has restarted since they changed them you’ll see the new ones (no quiz plus 2 separate categories with 2 donations).

                • @wizzlesticks:

Making 2 donations will only count to 1 leaf. And the wellness quiz still counts as 1 leaf (because it's in its own different category)

                  confirmed, 100%

                  • @setsuna: yeah :'( and didn't think too much so did 2 donations…but only 1 counted

  • +13

I don't doubt they mean well, but almost every carbon offset seller has been caught out as not delivering anywhere near as much as they are selling …

Good way of getting some cheap points or status credits.

    • +1

I do doubt they mean well, Joyce would sell his own mother for profit I'd bet. Strikes me as a way to reduce their points debt without needing to provide much.

  • Thanks - I had already ticked 2 categories so this was even cheaper for me :)

  • +3

Shouldn't the title also include "+ an offset flight"?

    • It would be $21 with the items in cart.

I included an extra $1 for the cost of offset domestic flight in the subject, hence putting ~$22 in the subject, but happy for it to be made clearer if possible.

      • Do you need to fly to be able to pay for this offset or can you book the flight, pay the $1-$2 offset at the same time and then cancel the flight afterwards? Cheers

        • Qantas terms say you should get the leaf seven days after purchase, so if you booked a flight with carbon offset it and then cancel, it could still trigger the leaf although I am not certain.

^ In order to be recognised for the Green Tier activity, Qantas Frequent Flyer members must tick ‘Fly Carbon Neutral’ on eligible flights during the booking process or in My Account. Carbon offset will be recognised as a Green Tier activity seven days after purchase.

          https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/status-and-clubs…

  • How long does this run for, i think my status doesnt roll over until the end of the month

    • +1

Its been running for a while, no indicators that they will be cutting this anytime soon. You can still earn it now, you have 3 months to claim your prize of 10k points or 50 SCs.

    • The coupon expires May 11 (unless Qantas pull or plug it earlier, since I am not sure it is supposed to work on these charity redemptions).

However once you achieve Green Tier, I believe you have 90 days to select your reward.

      • Does this mean If my status year ends in 55 days, I can wait till the next status year and it will apply to my next status year?

        • +1

I believe so, yes, since you will have 90 days to select your reward after qualifying.

  • So what is more of a value, 50 sc or 10k points?

    • +4

Status Credits only if you are close to moving up from Bronze -> Silver, Gold -> Platinum, etc and need this to get over the line.
Or if you are going for 7000 SC to get lifetime Silver.

Otherwise would probably take the points.

  • Whats the biggest benefit from an ozbarganier perspective for gaining Qantas status, say gold status? I think I could spend some money and gain it but not sure if its worth it finacially

    • +11

Well I can see a great value for an OzBargainer Credit Card Churner to earn Platinum.

The main reason why people cant find any Classic Reward seating is because Platinum/Platinum One/Chairmans Lounge unofficially can request any Business Sale seat to being turned into Classic Rewards. This applies from Economy to First by calling the VIP FFQ Phone Line based in Hobart. Therefore already taking all the allocated "X/U/P" Class (Economy/Business/First Classic Reward) before they are automatically released to the public.

For any normal OzBargainer, who doesn't travel for work and maybe only flies a few times per year can be hard to justify.
      A) Travel a few times domestically per year and can utilize Priority Check In, Security, Boarding, On-Departure Upgrades with points and Domestic Qantas Club Lounges
      B) Travel as a huge family who could do a lot with Priority
      C) Someone who travels frequently Internationally or on the Oneworld/QF Partner network who could utilize Qantas Gold Benefits
      D) Slightly increased Classic Reward Availability
      E) Faster call times
      F) Qantas Points Boosters

If you only fly domestically, you might want to consider Virgin Australia Gold Status as it is FAR cheaper to earn and retain in comparison to Qantas.

      • +1

Thanks a lot for the responses, very helpful. Yes I'm finding it hard to justify, the increase access to classic reward availability for international trips seems really good but I would need to spend a decent amount to get gold which seems to make it less worthwhile overall.

    • +1

If you have to ask, you don’t need the status. It’s not “just” some money to achieve gold. Without dsc, it costs at least 10k aud worth of fights to achieve gold each year.

  • this is a great deal to earn 50 Status Credits since normally you can only earn status credit by flights

    For QFF points
Spending $21 for 4450points (4240 + 210) is a good deal though if you are not frequent flyer (not close to reaching any higher tiers)

  • +3

Can someone please ELI5 how the service status/credits work? I had 150 'expire' on me yesterday, not sure how that affects my overall QFF points balance, earning rate, or reward rate.

    • +1

Expiring status does nothing to your point balance. Status have tier which helps you with upgrade, extra baggage, lounge access etc. Need 300 sc to be silver which gets you one time access to qantas lounge voucher. 700 sc to be gold and 1400 sc to be platinum. 3600 sc to be p1.

  • I've already got a tick towards green from a survey I did a while ago. So buying these 4 things would get me over the line?
Status credits aren't of use to me, so $21 to net 4240 points. That's just shy of the value I'd get from redeeming a gift card, so not bad if used for flights.

    • If you already have a leaf from the sustainability quiz (before it was removed), then you can just do the 'Great Barrier Reef Foundation' charity redemption and skip the 'OzHarvest' one.

However you would still also need to do the flight offset (cheapest is a domestic flight offset from $1) or stay in the eco-hotel. It should work for existing upcoming bookings and new bookings.

      • I've got international partner classic reward flights booked, and I have the option to offset carbon for just over 300 points on a few of them (can't see a cash option). Do you happen to know if they'll count? If so, can I do more than one of them and get multiple ticks?

        • It works perfect for new bookings when you do it at the time of the booking (you can offset with cash or points).

However for existing bookings I believe you can only offset with points, and it is a bit hit and miss whether it triggers the leaf automatically (lots of reports of people stating it doesn't trigger for them automatically, but few people reported it worked fine). I couldn't find anywhere that says you are not eligible to offset existing bookings, so if you don't get it automatically, it would be a matter of complaining to Qantas and getting them to manually add it.

You can read more about the recent experiences in the last few pages here: https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/threads…

          • @JHoliday: Thanks. It should be fine to do it after booking. " In order to be recognised for the Green Tier activity, Qantas Frequent Flyer members must tick ‘Fly Carbon Neutral’ on eligible flights during the booking process or in My Account."

Looks like it won't count more than once though. "You need to complete at least one activity in five of the six categories."

Also, I think I'm better off leaving OzHarvest and removing the home/car offset when paying completely with points. The 3000 for home/car doesn't get discounted, but OzHarvest does to 2880.

            • @puffinfresh: Better off paying $20 for the home/car, not using points (up to you though).

            • @puffinfresh: Yeah "In my account" doesn't mean anything to qantas. They insisted i should have done it when i booked. It took over a month for them to acknowledged. I told them i literally clicked the links to my upcoming flight under the options for the leaf. They approved it after a lot of time wasting but only as a "one off"

            • +1

@puffinfresh: Hmm. How are both OzHarvest and Great Barrier Reef counting when they're in the same category? Starting to think I should have gone for the home/car.

              • @puffinfresh: Yep, I didn't get rewarded for both OzHarvest and Great Barrier Reef. Maybe people on the new criteria do? So I'll wait for my carbon offset points to come in, and then get the home/car offset. I'll end up having spent just less than 10000 points, so still a little ahead, with some money going to charities.

          • @JHoliday: confirming Qantas screwed me over when i applied the offset. Had a lot of back and forth before they actually accepted it as a "once off" because i didnt do it at the time of booking even though the links took me to an upcoming flight….they said it would have been ok if i hadn't done one leg of the return journey but who knows.

  • +1

So if I am understanding this correctly, if you have 0 status credits, to get Silver you would need to earn an extra 250 status credits to get Silver, which is like 10+ flights in the year?

And then you lose Silver status if you can't earn enough status credits the following year (250 status credits to maintain silver it says)?

Seems like only a small demographic of 'Frequent Flyers' would be able to get value from the status credits option.

    • +1

Correct, status gets you perks when flying. So if you don’t fly much but have someone gifted you high status (status can be gifted if you have platinum or p1) , it would still be useless to most.

    • +1

Although you lose your yearly SC after reset, it still count towards your lifetime SC.

      • Yea at 150 sc a year, lifetime sc is not for everyone, it would take 46 years to achieve silver and it’s sorta not that good. Takes 92 years to achieve to lfg. Lfg works for people who at least get 700 sc each year which works to about 20 years to be lfg. Lifetime sc is not for everyone

  • I'm with RedEnergy and I had thought I had GreenPower but I don't have the green tier tick.. no idea how to add it tho.. Redenergy website doens't say much and points to Qantas, then visa versa..

  • I have an upcoming Qantas Classic flight to CAIRNS via Jetstar. I wonder if i can offset this? Do I need to call them?

    • Should be able to do it in your account when you log on to Qantas website

  • +2

Hey JHoliday, there are reports on PointHacks saying the two donations listed here would count as 1 leaf. Which means this deal would give you 3 leaves, not 4. Can you confirm that you definitely received the 4 leaves from your shop?

    • I purchased them in separate orders just to be safe (this year, and in previous years).

Also I only purchased them yesterday evening, so they haven't triggered yet (normally takes at least 24 hours but sometimes a few days) to trigger in the app

    • +1

I think it depends if you have the current or previous criteria. In the old ones (which I can see) the donations are grouped under the "Give Back" leaf, with the heading "Complete at least 1 out of the 4 activities" (OzHarvest, UNICEF, Kimberly, Reef). I guess when they changed the criteria (removing the sustainability quiz) this must have changed to move the donations to separate leaves?

    • Yeah, I have had three additional leaves appear on my account.

I had the one existing flight offset from a trip earlier this year and I'm now at four.

Looking at my status, I still need to activities in either the "Sustainable Travel" or "Reduce your impact" categories.

      • +1

Have you completed the sustainability quiz in previous years? Apparently there is a bug in the Wellbeing App whereby if you have done it once, it doesn't show up again for subsequent years. You can email [email protected] and ask them to manually add the fifth leaf for you, if you have completed 4 out of the 6.

"The Team is aware of the issue within the Qantas Wellbeing application, the Membership Year crossover and the impact to the members. They are working on the fix.

There are six options available to complete the Green Tier Status, but only five need to be completed.

If you have completed four of the six items, there is a manual work-around to allow you to complete the Green Tier Status between now and when the fix is released.

Have you completed four of the six Green Tier options this Membership Year?"

        • Alas, I hadn't done the quiz before as I wasn't all that interested in installing the Wellbeing app.

The option to do the quiz is still there under "Reduce your impact" category, so I'll try my luck to see whether the new policy to exclude it as qualifying for a leaf has stuck yet.

Otherwise, I can't see myself going out of my way to book one of their sustainable travel deals. 🤷‍♂️

        • It looks like doing the quiz still counts as a leaf.

Green Tier activated this morning. :)

  • +1

Just so I get this right, you can spend $21 + 5760 points and you get either 50 credits or a gain of 4240 points?

    • +3

No, you still need to fly Qantas or book a hotel through them

    • Plus offset one domestic flight (which can be from $1), or stay at one of their eco-hotels. The $1 carbon offset is obviously the better value.

  • I purchased 'climate positive' from both market place and wine. no leave granted, any one in the same shoe?

  • Stuck on the pay now button lol

    It never works

    • Had similar issues yesterday, InPrivate/incognito worked much better.

      • Tried both and still having issues myself.

        • +1

same keep getting errors, tried phone, incognito, all fails. classic qantas

          • @anicca: Same here… ;(

            • +1

@D3HUN: Avoid using auto complete on payment details. Just to type it all in manually.

    • Turned off adblock for me in order for it to appear

  • Can you offset a flight that has already been booked?. Flight was booked with points.

    • +1

It is a bit hit and miss with existing bookings (works for some but not others).

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13709710/redir

If it doesn't work, you could always complain to Qantas. Just a drain of your time and sanity dealing with them though.

      • Confirming I had no issues completing this. Cost about 300 points as I booked the flight with points. Received the leaf 3 days later.

    • Yup it's showing up in the offset menu and there's small link attached to each booking says 'offset this trip'

so one can choose shortest travel

      • Yes but whether it not it automatically triggers the leaf after a few days is a lottery. May need to follow up with Qantas to get them to manually add it. Let us know how you go

  • Does Green Tier bonus 10K points count towards the points club calculation?

    • +1

I think I read in this discussion that they do not https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/threads… (which I find strange), however worth someone else confirming

    • Could someone please confirm this?

I have 50 days to get an additional 38k points to hit Points Club. If these 10k count then I’d only need 28k more which seems tight but possible (through cc spend plus everyday reward and maybe switching to Optus on my phone for a month).

But 38k seems very unlikely when I already have NAB credit card and all others are unlikely to deliver the points by 30 June.

      • I don't think these count towards Points Club for some odd reason, I think it was mentioned in this thread but please double check -https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/threads/qantas-green-frequent-flyer-tier.102791/page-56

You best best for quick points is Qantas Wine Bonus Offers or Gift Card Boosters at Woolies with their weekly deals.

      • They don't count for Points Club. I got a bunch for signing up to Superhero and completing some trades. Not sure if that's up your alley.

  • Question: My status year finishes in August 2023. I have flights booked for April 2024 next year
Does offsetting my April flights now give me my last 'leaf' and thus Green Tier (and associated status credits credits):
    A) this status year; or
    B) at the time of by flights in April 2024

I'm thinking its April as I could theoretically just cancel my flights and not fly.

    • You should get the leaf for carbon offset within 7 days of applying the offset (so you don’t need to wait till you fly).

  • I really should have read all the comments here before I did this. Can you cancel the order?

  • LOL I spent 130 points only on the "Climate Positive Delivery" (didn't buy anything else), Qantas processed that transaction, took away my 130 points and gave me nothing (no leaf)~

    • +3

We're talking about Qantas - none of Qantas system is that fast. Oh except one that takes your money of course.

    • +1

I think you need to add the Climate Positive Delivery with another item in your cart (e.g. Tasmanian Home/Car offset, or Charity Redemption) - not just purchase it by itself.

Also the leaves take a few days to update, not instant.

  • MAKE A CLIMATE POSITIVE CONTRIBUTION ORDER -117
    CHARITY REDEMPTION ORDER -2,880
TAS - CARBON OFFSET ORDER -3,000
    CARBON OFFSET -918

So that covers 4 and I guess wellbeing quiz thing from the app for 5th? Doesn't look like it's possible to get the hotel one without actually staying at the hotel.

I'll see how it goes - Thanks OP

It's not much but happy to make Qantas to donate & I get some kickback as well.

  • OP,

There was another post on this previously that was effectively doing this for less. See below - assume your new post supercedes this now?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/727004

    • In 2023 Qantas made it slightly harder/more expensive to get Green Tier

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13709431/redir

      • haha classic Qantas.

        thanks

    • +1

LOL copycats of my original post ;)
