  • Such a good deal, only 128gb, ideal for those don’t need big storage.

    • +4

128gb is fine in my experience - I don’t need local copies of everything.

      • +5

Fine for you, but not for everyone as people do like to store data on device.

        • +3

And then look to blame everyone/everything else when their device dies and all their stuff is gone.

          • +1

@krouton24: People with higher capacity phones can still back them up lol. I got a 512GB phone and I backup the files to my PC and cloud regularly.

  • Good phone OP!

  • +1

    So, $200 off

  • +2

256gb is $1378 for some colours

  • iPhone 14 or 14 Pro?

    • +7

iPhone 14 has essentially same CPU as iPhone 13 with just added extra SOS/ GPS/ Crash detection features.

      • +1

2GB RAM compared to the 13 which is a nice bump. Extra GPU core as well. That will do more to improve the longevity of the phone, RAM limitations are often where Apple cut off support for old devices.

The A16 is essentially a die shrink with improved photo processing to go with the better cameras in the pro. The reason to go the pro is photography, not faster hardware.

Officeworks price match to $1138, pay with 10% discounted gift cards down to $1024? And scan Flybuys for an extra 1k points or $5 down to $1021?

    • Thank you. What’s the best strategy to get 10% off via get Gift Cards

      • There are generally weekly promotions on gift cards, Officeworks is on the Ultimate Everyone and Ultimate Home variations which are currently 10% bonus value (so effectively 9.09% discount).

      • Thanks

        • Just be aware that the gift cards might take some hours to activate on the Visa end and be redeemable in store so you might need to purchase them in advance, I have no idea how long it normally takes, maybe one of the people on here might know how long TCN/Ultimate gift cards take to become redeemable after purchasing in store.

Also I believe you can't redeem multiple of them online so you need to do it instore (and have Officeworks price-beat in store)?

    • +6

the real deal is always in the comments

    • Same price in Officeworks

      • It wasn't when the comment was originally made - Officeworks are quite good at quickly dropping their price to match their competitors so they don't get a stream of OzBargainers asking them to price beat it by 5%. Have to be quick to get a good deal in!

  • +5

iPhone 14 not selling as well this year due to no CPU upgrade from last year's iPhone 13?

    • More memory too, but it’s not enough for most to upgrade. 12 to 13 wasn’t a big change either

    • +12

lol, how many people do you think even know what CPU their phone has?

      • +3

I find that some of these tech nerds think that everyone stays in the tech loop like them and cares about things like the cpu where most people wouldn’t even know what cou their devices use. Lol

In reality most people just upgrade in cycles because of marketing and how plans are designed to sucks them in. I need to keep signing a new contract and get the latest gadgets and especially all the early bonuses I get. So much value. As opposed to keep using the old device that’ll be fine for years to come.

    • +2

I don't think there was enough improvement in the A16 CPU to go iPhone 14 Pro over this. Tests show only a modest improvement evident only under certain conditions (4k encoding I think being one). The other reasons to go pro being the camera and the somewhat gimmicky Dynamic Island. In using both, battery life hasn't been significantly improved with the new CPU either.

Potentially last year the upgrade might have been compelling, but today paying $450 / 37% more for the Pro of last year's release more for seems wasteful to me. Not to mention USB-C possibly on the horizon.

  • not a bad deal, but 256gb minimum needed. 128gb fills very quickly.

    • +10

Depends on the person really, 256GB might be excessive and wasted money. I've only ever had 64GB and 128GB phones and basically never maxed out on storage despite having thousands of songs downloaded and 20k+ photos. YMMV

      • I do have to manage my 64Gb mini, but that is because I don’t use Apple Music and have gigs of music downloaded. I suspect 128Gb would be fine.

    • +3

Yeah, really depends on your use.

128gb is fine for me. I'm at 80% storage after 2.5 years. That said, 256gb would barely be sufficient for a few people I know.

    • Think you mean iPhone 13 128gb

  • iPhone 14 vs 14 pro on camera quality? Thanks

    • +4

      Potato .. tomato

    • +5

My 2c - I have a 14 Pro and previously had a 12 Pro. I believe the 14 has the same camera as the 12 Pro and I can't tell the difference between my 14 Pro and the 12 Pro.

      • +1

        Thanks for your honest comment.

        • No worries.

      • +1

The 14 pro main camera was upgraded to a different 48mp sensor that is supposed to be better. However from the comparison on YouTube I’ve seen they produce similar results.

You aren’t going to see a huge jump over a two year cycle now. It’s the way mobile phones have got.

        • +2

The 14 pro main camera was upgraded to a different 48mp sensor that is supposed to be better.

That's correct, and the reason I bought it was for superior low light performance due to pixel binning. It really doesn't seem to make much difference tbh, and high light performance seems identical.

          • +1

@Dogsrule: It also does have the macro mode, if you need that feature.

            • +1

@timmysbiscuits: Yes true, but I'm mostly taking photos of kids so macro mode is a bit wasted on me. Still a very good camera overall.

  • Is there any point in buying iPhones now even at these prices knowing that USB-C is unofficially confirmed with prices (hopefully) unlikely to increase?

    • +9

An awful lot of assumptions and uncertainty in your post there.

Unofficially confirmed and hopefully unlikely 😂

      • +1

but isnt that what would trigger a lot of questions? the uncertainty 😂

      • USB-C

With the new EU law, they don't really have a choice. Technically they can still use lightning for this release, (and/or create a separate version) but then they won't be able to sell it AT ALL next year. My prediction was that the cable will become useless and severely devalue previous gen (14) models.

        unlikely to increase

This is more like hope than assuming.

I am not trying to justify or be defensive, but wanting to open my opinion for discussion.

        • +3

“ My prediction was that the cable will become useless and severely devalue previous gen (14) models.”

I don’t think the majority of people give a damn. There are hundreds of millions of Lightning-ported iPhones currently in use, so the cables are definitely not going to become useless, or affect the value of iPhones.

The way this whole transition has been portrayed in the media is pretty amusing, talking about it like this is going to make everything use a USB-C power brick.

Fun fact, the iPhone already uses a USB-C brick! All that is changing is the cable, and if you have an iPhone you have a few cables already.

          • @Mitch889: Actually I don't have an iPhone but I plan to get 2x (one for my partner as well). So I have quite a few USB C cables lying around… So for me, I am actually looking forward to it (in addition to the obvious benefits). Also I am hope Apple doesn't try to pull off that MFI crap again.

            • +2

@FrugalDealSeeker: If Apple's other USB-C devices are anything to go by, it won't be an issue.

        • I know a few people who like the idea of USB-C on the iPhone. I think there's a chance you'll see the last generation with lightning devalue slightly more than other generations.

USB-C comes with big benefits - It greatly simplifies carry, makes going overseas easier, etc.

          • @ihfree: While USB-C is more robust than previous fragile versions of USB that evangelists were heavily promoting as an advantage of Android it are not as long lasting as Lightning which is almost indestructible.

For most people USB-C will be a step back. Millions of USB iPhones are going to be junked early due to USB port failure compared to the older ones.

Probably a good thing for Apple.

            • @Grok:

not as long-lasting as Lightning which is almost indestructible

I have had Apple products for about 8 years (inc. a 30-pin iPad first-gen) and the cables rarely lasted 2 years before being forced to unpack the new ones from the box. While my first Android phone was a Razer Phone 2, >3 years ago which came with a braided cable that I am still using. Of course, I have had several USB-Cs bought at servos and a few from AliExpress for a few dollars that I have failed within months but my point is OEM ones should have comparable durability.

              • +2

@FrugalDealSeeker: That's what you want - you want to be replacing cables not devices!

            • +1

@Grok: Most people I know use Android phones with life span between 2-4 years, and the usb-c ports have never been the first to fail, same for all of the included cables unlike Apple. So not sure what you are on about. People most likely get bored of their phone first before the usb-c ports become a problem.

Also wireless charging has become increasingly popular in the past few years.

            • +3

@Grok: Completely agree. USB-C only seems good in comparison to the previous Mini and Micro USB ports. Lightning has always been a superior physical design, I wish Apple open sourced it to become the consumer standard.

    • Well, the new ones will come out in September. If no urgent need for a phone, wait. If urgent, this is a good deal.

      • but to wait for the discount on the iPhone 15 it will have to be 9-12 month.

    • I rarely plug mine in now that there is Mag Safe

  • +1

    Amazon matching HN

  • seems they are not selling this well at all, we might see next sale even 20% off maybe ???

  • I would like 512GB……….Iphone 14 Pro in gold……any decent deals?

    • Not sure about gold color but eBay refurb deal brings an iPhone 14 Pro 512GB to $1779 with one year warranty (refurbished)
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/325538935354?
Or alternatively if you dropped it to 256GB you could get it for $1469 refurbished after eBay coupon

Or if you purchased 10% discounted gift cards, you could get it from Jb Hi-Fi brand new for $1934 since its discounted by $100 currently.

      • +1

Those phones are not refurbished, they are used phones with batteries on the way out.

        Only Apple refurbishes phones properly.

        • -2

Depending on the seller and their condition, some of the 'Excellent' and 'As New' refurbs have a (third-party?) battery replacement with a battery capacity supposedly >96%

  • Will officeworks price beat?

    • Officeworks is selling it at $1197 so cant price beat

  • +2

Got my 256gb 14 in red for 1279 few weeks back from ebay. And paid with 3%off gc from shopback. So got it for around 1245. I tried to post it here but got deleted as not enough stock.

  • Starlight is now showing 1198 too.

  • Any good deals on the iPhone 14 (or even iPhone 13) on a 12 or 24 month plan these days?

  • +1

I need a deal for the iphone 14 pro max :(

    • +2

JB, officeworks and Amazon all have $100 off right now

  • +3

I recently bought a refurbished 14 pro 128gb (listed as Excellent) from ebay for approx 1200. It had 2 minor scratches on screen which were hardly noticeable. Battery is @ 100% and upon checking Apple website the official warranty is till Sep ‘23. Seller warranty is for 12 months as well. It was AU stock btw.

I did post a deal but due to low qty it was merged into low qty thread and some were concerned that seller feedback wasn’t great (97% i guess). It’s only been a week that I’ve bought but so far all good.

    • Just note if it has any third party parts inside as it may have been refurbished in-store by them. Your apple warranty is obsolete. Hopefully not though and can generally confirm by checking for any non genuine part messages in the settings app.

Also even if your phones warranty expires with apple and it states Sep 2023 it will actually go to Sep 2024 you get an extra year under consumer Law if iPhone is an Australian model and can be confirmed in-store. We are Lucky here in Australia. I've done this and had iPhones repaired a few times under this policy for free.

in this day and age 256gigs should be a minimum but oh wait then companies won't be able to profit by selling their cloud storage services.
