    Some thoughts:

    • This deal is for all Ultimate (Visa) gift cards sold at Coles (excluding the variable load denominations), not just the six Ultimate gift cards pictured in the catalogue. The reason I say this is that Coles has not written exclusions for Ultimate Him gift cards, Ultimate Students gift cards, etc in the deal terms. If you want to know why I am so confident, read this comment.

    • I am really not sure whether purchasing an Ultimate (EFTPOS) gift card would also see you have 10% bonus value, so if your local Coles still stocks Ultimate (EFTPOS) gift cards for some reason, I would avoid them if possible. If you do not know about the differences between the Visa and EFTPOS versions (and want to know why I would generally avoid the EFTPOS version anyway), please look here.

    • Ultimate (Visa) gift cards are redeemable instore at some of the participating retailers, redeemable online at some of the participating retailers and can be exchange for some participating retailers' digital gift cards. Please refer to the Ultimate gift card website for more information on how you can redeem them at a particular participating retailer.

    • If you want to know what the correct list of participating retailers and redemption options, please look at the Ultimate gift card website. The gift card packaging is not the source of truth for participating retailers (unless you are looking for gift cards redeemable at Supercheap Auto, rebel or BCF). Dymocks and Thankly were removed from the Ultimate (Visa) gift card scheme within the last month, so even Ultimate (Visa) gift cards with those logos are no longer accepted at those retailers. I will try to work with moderators to ensure that any changes to participating retailers are reflected quickly during this deal, but that has its limitations…

Thank you so much. As always so helpful 🙂

    • +8

I need a script that just gives you a + for every post you do Wookie! :-)

      • +6

WookieMonster is a gift card encyclopaedia. Very knowledgeable

        • +2

          Honestly, only sort of.

Don’t ask me about how to use Luxury Escape gift cards or Steam gift cards or Stan gift cards (as examples), because I will then be out of my depth!

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Question for your knowledge … is there any gift card arbitrage that still exists in 2023? Or did the last remaining ones get removed this year

          • @WookieMonster: For the Steam cards, I usually buy them for those combinations below:

            Ultimate Kids/Teens/Home - JB Hi-Fi
            Ultimate Students - EB Games

So when I buy those Steam cards I can get the carrots as well, so far I still have nowhere to know that how those carrots can be spent.

Luckily the Steam cards are back to stock after several months of shortages, and it’s now have a new $35 denomination amount.

            • @shinjiman: Can you explain your steam strategy in more depth, I didn't understand.

              • +1

@Bdawg: I assume they buy the EB Games or JB Hifi gift cards, and then buy Steam wallet credits/cards in-store.

Carrots are the points currency of EB World. When you make a purchase online or in-store or trade-in your old games, you'll receive carrots credited to your account.

    • +10

I wish they could make the whole gift card scheme a bit more convoluted…

    • +1

      @WookieMonster
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
So none of these cards can be used at Supercheap Auto any more?

      • +1

You can only redeem a physical Ultimate Him (Visa) gift card at Supercheap Auto if the cardboard packaging includes the Supercheap Auto logo. I believe all stock of Ultimate Him (Visa) gift cards at Coles should still have the Supercheap Auto on it.

You can only redeem an Ultimate Him eGift Card at Supercheap Auto if it was issued before 01 October 2022.

You can continue to redeem any Ultimate Him (EFTPOS) gift cards at Supercheap Auto, but I am unsure whether that would attract a 10% bonus through this deal.

  • +5

    There was 15% off before.

    • +51

Then we should all go back in time and buy some.

  • Hi NOTE: The Ultimate Gift Card cannot be redeemed online —> we can’t exchange to jbhifi egift card. But I believe total cart value less than giftcard then we use as credit card.

    • +1

I'm confused. Is there a card called "The Ultimate Gift Card" or are you saying that none of the Ultimate gift cards can be redeemed online?

      • +1

There was not in post saying it can’t redeemed online. I believe we use this card in jbhifi for example as credit card. But total cart value should be equal or less than gift card value.

To use multiple card, you have to visit store

    • Came here to ask this too - how do menulog redemptions work if you can’t redeem online

  • so early

  • +7

10% additional value (9.1% off) isn't great when they're almost always 10% off (and sometimes more).

    • +3

I think not for the Everyone

Edit: Also +0.5% in flybuy pts so should make it 9.5% off

      • Pretty sure you don't get points of gift cards, tobacco, and alcohol

        • +2

You can earn standard Flybuys points on purchases of third-party gift cards at Coles. I purchased third-party gift cards at Coles on Wednesday and was awarded standard Flybuys points. I purchased more third-party gift cards at Coles yesterday, and I can tell later today whether I also received standard Flybuys points.

The gift cards in this deal are third-party gift cards, so they should earn standard Flybuys points (unless Coles decides to move the goal posts).

The only other business accepting Flybuys and awarding standard Flybuys points on purchases of third-party gift cards is Kmart (although it has been a while since I tested this).

          • @WookieMonster: Interesting, I have never received Flybuys points.

On the website giftcards.com.au, which is owned by Coles it states…

Can I collect flybuys points when I purchase or use a Gift Card?
When you purchase a Gift Card, you will not collect flybuys points. However, flybuys points (and any applicable bonus points) can be collected on redemption of your Gift Card at applicable Participating Retailers.

However on the flybuys website it states…

            Please note:

Points collected from a promotion will appear in your account no later than 4 weeks after the end of the promotion unless mentioned in the offer.
Points are not awarded on tobacco and tobacco related products.
Bonus points are not awarded if a product is unavailable or is substituted.

So this might depend on what state you are in, maybe. Im in QLD and havent got points before.

            • +3

@frazel: You missed something very important in the Definitions section of the Gift Card Terms of Use you are referring to. Gift Cards has a very specific definition:

Gift Card means any plastic gift card or eGift Card issued by Coles Group that you have purchased or received for one or more of the Participating Retailers.

I said very specifically in my comment above third-party gift cards, not gift cards issued by Coles Group. I do not recall purchases of gift cards issued by Coles Group ever being awarded Flybuys points at Coles.

              • @WookieMonster: I received flybuys points at Coles when I purchased these recently concluded Coles Mastercard giftcard.

          • @WookieMonster: WookieMonster been stacking up on Coles MasterCard deals haha

        • I got points from buying current Coles Mastercard. not sure of others

    • Yeah this isn't an amazing deal OP, regular standard discount here.

  • +1

I would rather put cash in offset account these days unless: it is 15-20% off (like 2017-2018), or use the gc now.

    • I guess we can inception this with the Coles Mastercards we got last week to get Ultimate Everyone cards (with the discount) to then convert it to Apple Gift Cards (at no discount) to buy the next iDevice (iPhone, iPad, iWatch, iGlasses) in September?

      • +1

Sounds like gift card arbitrage. Does anyone know if this actually works?

      • Can you use apple gift cards as payment in the apple education store?

Is JB the best place to purchase apple GC using ultimate GC?

    • +3

Why compare gift card discounts to an annual return, though? They allow an immediate discount of 10-15% for a purchase that you would be wanting to make within a short time period. If you did this 10 times in a year, you would multiply your savings % by the frequency you did it (e.g. 10x 10%), and that would give you your 'annual return' to compare with an offset account or HISA.

      • Absolutely, if you use the gc now, or like danielh, you have a clear plan in September.
I still remain a few Ikea, Amazon and Apple gc which I have no idea what to buy, has been two years since I got them from covid bargains. I also got some gc as birthday presents that I haven't spent for a year. I guess this might be a normal case on Ozbargain.

      • yeah, for those this is the only option maybe

        • They done last year a 15% off but it was extremely hard to find stock. People were stashing them in the freezers and in dog food section 😃

      • JB has an upcoming sale??

  • The biggest for home is just $50?

    • +1

At Coles, the largest fixed denomination available for sale for Ultimate Home gift cards is $100.

Need someone to confirm if these can still be purchased with Coles PMC/Vanilla Visa. Hopefully it was just the Coles Myer cards/standard Coles gift cards which can no longer be used.

  • The problem I remember that is I can not add cards to my Apple Pay, because name is asked as a must &@$)(&@“ also the valid date. Anyone who can give a clue?

    • +5

      For physical Ultimate gift cards:

      • The cardholder name can be literally anything.
      • The expiry date you use for online spending and adding to a mobile wallet is 12/2029.
      • Yeah the 12/2029 got me for starters. I thought valid for 3 years so just added three years. They have info on their website though.

        https://www.ultimategiftcards.com.au/how-to-use-my-card/

        • +3

Your logic makes sense for digital Ultimate gift cards, as the expiry date for them is actually three years from the issue date.

I suspect the reason the physical Ultimate gift cards are required to use 12/2029 as the expiry date for online spending and adding to a mobile wallet (rather than simply three years from date of issue) is that this expiry date needs to be set on the card’s magstripe at the time it was manufactured. Once it is set on the magstripe, the activation process cannot physically change what is stored on the magstripe (which makes sense when you think about it).

Fun fact: the equivalent expiry date for Perfect EFTPOS gift cards is 12/2037.

      • I was able to add 1 Ultimate Home gift card to Apple Pay but not a 2nd card. After making purchase I deleted the 1st card & still could not add the 2nd card. A few days later & still can't add the 2nd card or another Ultimate Home gift card I hadn't tried previously. Something wrong with this card provider & Apple Pay?
They currently have this message on their website. No idea when this message was posted.

"To add your Ultimate eGift Card to Apple, Google or Samsung Pay wallets, use the ‘add card manually’ feature on your device’s digital wallet, enter the Card Number, Expiry Date and CVV of your card, and then the name, address and telephone number used for your card’s registration. We are actively working on a solution for the ‘Add to wallet’ feature and hope to have it fixed soon. We apologise for the inconvenience."

        • I am not entirely sure.

There was an issue where you could not add Ultimate Home gift cards with specific card numbers to a mobile wallet, but I just tried adding one of those gift cards to Apple Pay and it worked for me (even though it did not work for me a number of months ago).

  • I need some netflix gift cards so anyone know if i can buy these and use at officeworks or JB etc to buy netflix cards?

    • +6

      Officeworks

      Good luck.

Officeworks tightened up their policy around gift cards at the end of 2022 to make it crystal clear that you cannot use any gift cards to purchase any gift cards they sell.

In my experience (and some others on OzBargain), a lot of Officeworks staff instore will ask/demand to see the card you want to use to pay for your gift card, even if you are using a mobile wallet. Even if the staff member instore does not ask to see the payment method you use, I have no idea whether Officeworks has recently got their payment processor to automatically block Ultimate / Celebration gift cards (similar to how Coles finally got their payment processor to block gift cards issued by Coles Group as a payment method for third-party gift cards last week).

A couple of people have recently told me that attempts to pay for a gift card online or over the phone at Officeworks using Ultimate / Celebration gift cards have failed.

      JB Hi-Fi

      I don’t think so.

JB Hi-Fi is generally fine with customers using Ultimate gift cards to purchase third-party gift cards (e.g. Steam gift cards, Apple gift cards, Google Play gift cards), but the issue is that I don’t think JB Hi-Fi sells Netflix gift cards. I went on a wild goose chase last year across multiple JB Hi-Fi stores across multiple states trying to find one selling Netflix gift cards, but I came to the conclusion that JB Hi-Fi no longer sells them.

      The Good Guys

The answer would be the same as JB Hi-Fi. I will add that I could have sworn seeing Netflix gift cards stocked a few years ago at a The Good Guys store, but when I last called a store as part of my wild goose chase, the store said they only sold The Good Guys gift cards and Stan gift cards.

      EB Games

      I don’t think so.

EB Games seems to be the most relaxed retailer in terms of using gift cards to purchase gift cards, but I don’t think they stock Netflix gift cards at all. I remember one staff member telling me a couple of years ago that EB Games opted to only stock gift cards focussed on gaming, which was the reason they stopped selling gift cards from Apple (even though you can use them to purchase games, but whatever).

    • Why not use the Turkey hack instead?

  • Excuse the noob question. If I add one of these things to my Google Wallet. Does it stay as a gift card, or turn into cash where I can use it anywhere?

    • +2

It’s still only valid at the mentioned retailers in the table only

      • +1

        Thanks

  • Can I use these ultimate card on jb online shop?

    • Yes but only one at a time.

      • unless you use them to convert to JB gift cards then you can exceed one card at a time

        • So you can convert these to jb hifi cards on jb site?

          • @bwatt72: Yes one by one

          • @bwatt72: Maybe.

Riskified - the third-party risk management tool used by JB Hi-Fi to determine whether a transaction is likely to be fraudulent - sometimes flags online orders of JB Hi-Fi gift cards paid using Ultimate gift cards.

If you are able to order two JB Hi-Fi gift cards using two different Ultimate gift cards in the same day using the same email address / device, Riskified pretty much always flags the third transaction in the same day. You can try again the next day and it should work again.

  • Does anyone have any experience with price matching then paying with gift cards at Office Works?

    • yes what do you want to know?

      • Is it heavily frowned upon? Have you had issues with staff before? Looking at getting the Pixel 6a and price matching to catch.com.au and paying with gift cards.

        • +3

          no it's not frowned upon

you just need to have your source ready and make sure the price includes delivery

if it is decent they would match and beat it by 5% as well

you can use multiple gift cards to pay for it, that's no issue. However, you might get some rouge staff that won't let you split payment or make up some BS rules. If it happens, no point arguing just come back another time and get another staff to serve you

          • @Poor Ass: awesome, ill give it a go. I want to buy two for my folks

            • @frazel: the Pixel 6a is pretty awesome too

              I can't fault it

got it during this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/713980

and did a fake trade where they give you $250 trade credit but you don't actually need to send in a phone

by the way you can use some of the ultimate gc in JB HiFi too so

look around I wouldn't pay more than $500 for the 6a even these days

even Telstra outright recently was $499 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/769412

              • @Poor Ass: damn I missed that sale, im now looking at $500 after GC discount with price match. I would prefer just Telstra $500 and done.

                • @frazel: how much were you looking at before?

                  • @Poor Ass: Pixel 6a Chalk (only decent colour catch and office works match on

Officeworks price match catch.com.au, so the price is $559
Pay for Gift cards brings it to $505

Do you know of any better options?

                    • @frazel: yes plenty

                      • @Poor Ass: keen on providing one of those? :)

                        • -2

@frazel: nah no need you can do your own research

                          • +1

@Poor Ass: ahh well that's the best price/deal I can get after research

                            • -2

                              @frazel: try harder haha

                            • @frazel: But to be honest if you can hold out for a month or so

Wait until they release the pixel 7a price then make a decision

Maybe you could get it for $500-600 at JB… They always have these pre release sales

  • +1

9.09% discount for those who are wondering

    • Where did the 0.91% go?

      • that would be your out of pocket provided the gift card company doesn't go broke then it would be 100%

      • 10% on is the same as getting 9.09% off.

  • NOTE: The Ultimate Gift Card cannot be redeemed online

why? they can be used for payment online in some stores

  • Would I be eligible for the CommBank Rewards $10 off $100 spend at Coles if I purchase this gift card?

    • Yes as long as you spend $100.

  • so basically if you needed $2500 you need to go in and out of Coles 5x as the max in 1 purchase is 5 x $100?

Looking at a $2500 purchase at JB Hifi, anyone had any experience with JB, would they tell you to take a hike if you came in with 25 x $100 gift cards to use?

    • +5

so basically if you needed $2500 you need to go in and out of Coles 5x as the max in 1 purchase is 5 x $100?

Yes. A couple of things to keep in mind:

      • If you attempt to make a second purchase of 5x $100 gift cards in the same visit, staff may refuse to authorise the transaction, because

      • Fingers crossed your local store(s) have heaps of $100 gift cards in stock! The $100 denominations will probably be the first to go, so you may have to do a few visits to get the gift cards you want.

anyone had any experience with JB, would they tell you to take a hike if you came in with 25 x $100 gift cards to use?

I don't have any direct experience redeeming 25 gift cards at once in JB Hi-Fi, but this person was able to redeem 81 Ultimate/TCN gift cards in one transaction. I have also seen a number of people redeem 30 or 50 or 60 gift cards in one transaction, so 25 should be fine. You may get a staff member who will flat out say no to a split payment request, but that usually only happens if you are wanting to purchase gift cards (e.g. Apple gift cards) using Ultimate/TCN gift cards.

If you are going to commit to redeeming a stack of gift cards at a JB Hi-Fi store:

      • Try to go to JB Hi-Fi when it is a little quieter if you can. The last thing you want to do is to effectively shut down a checkout and tie up a staff member for a few minutes during a busy time, especially since staff and/or other customers may not be pleased about you doing this (and the last thing you want to do is to give the store manager an excuse to plead with JB Hi-Fi head office to implement redemption limits again or even implement redemption limits within their own store).

      • "Prepare" the gift cards before you get to the store (i.e. remove packaging and scratch to reveal PINs). I find that staff members generally don't like it if you are getting gift cards out of packaging and scratching PINs in front of them at the counter, as it can slow down the checkout process.

      • Make sure to tell staff that you want to do split payments between multiple Visa cards (or multiple Ultimate gift cards). If you say you want to redeem multiple gift cards, a staff member may think you want to redeem a JB Hi-Fi gift card; the only issue with this is that JB Hi-Fi gift cards are redeemed very differently to Ultimate gift cards, so a staff member who does not know the difference between an Ultimate gift card and a JB Hi-Fi gift card may get confused.

      • Make sure you tell staff member the exact amount you want to redeem on each Ultimate gift card, as JB Hi-Fi's checkouts have no way of determining the available balance on each one. Considering that this deal is for bonus value, a staff member may assume the total amount available on a $100 gift card is $100, and may not even be aware that Blackhawk Network (the gift card issuer) can and does run bonus value deals.

Btw, you would only need 22x $100 + 1x $50 + 1x $30 gift cards in order to hit the $2500 mark, as this deal is for 10% bonus value to be added to the gift card, not a 10% upfront discount.

  • +1

really appreciate that detailed response, thanks Wookie!!

    • +2

No worries! And my apologies for not finishing writing the first dot point… it was supposed to say this:

If you attempt to make a second purchase of 5x $100 gift cards in the same visit, staff may refuse to authorise the transaction, because Coles’ general gift card sale limit is 5 gift cards per customer (and this should be displayed at the top of the gift card shelf). Different staff can have different interpretations of this, so you will get some staff who will let you get away with purchasing more than 5 gift cards in a visit, whereas some may not even let you purchase 5 in a visit!

  • For Officeworks… looks like you need to use these cards in store and CANNOT pay for an item online as the payment method of "gift card" I couldn't find. That fine I guess but an inconvenience.

    • Are you sure?

The Ultimate gift cards pictured in this deal are prepaid Visa gift cards, which means that you redeem them like a regular Visa card on the Officeworks checkout. That means you can only redeem a maximum of 1x Ultimate (Visa) gift card on the Officeworks website. Whether the Officeworks website will actually accept your Ultimate gift card is an entirely different question, as you can read out here…

A quick check of the How Do I Use My Card page on the Ultimate gift card page also highlights the following sentence:

When shopping online, enter your card details in the debit/credit card section and not the gift card section.

Ahh. Of course yes. This makes them hard to use online (restrictive). Can you use multiple cards during checkout in store? Assuming so. Just read the link you supplied and the answer is they should but it’s not a given. Cheers.

  • I am new to this app, can someone assist 🙏 please.
I like to know if I buy the ultimate card for everyone and load with $500 will I still get the extra value amd is it instant?

  • New to this; any tips on using 3 x $100 ultimate GCs to buy a $300 item on Temple & Webster?

Edit: I've tried to buy a $100 T&W gift card, and entered the Ultimate card details into the credit card section. Getting a 'Apologies, but your chosen payment method is currently unavailable. Please try again or choose another payment method' error message.
