Possibly why its called a Trade in Deal.

      YMMV

  • -5

OP, where does it say on the JB website that you get a bonus $250 trade in?

    • +8

It is not on the JB site yet, starts 7am on Thursday.
The bonus coupon is listed on the JB Squaretrade site

      $250 off Google Pixel 6A
      Coupon 4
      Coupon offer starts 21 /July /22 7:00am AEST
      Coupon offer ends 12 / Aug / 22 11:00pm AEST
      Coupon is redeemable until 18 / Aug / 22 11:59pm AEST

      • Does it say what phone you need to trade in to get $250 off? Surely they're not gonna trade a Samsung S8+ for $250 lol… if they do its worth considering…

        • +4

$250 is a bonus + whatever your phone value is (phone trade in value has to be min $10)

          • +4

@BargainsGrabber: wow.. hopefully the LG G6 passes grade

            nope $0

            LOL

            • +3

@desync: Just use a phone that passes the trade in criteria. You get the $250 off the purchase + the trade in phone's value. Don't send in the trade in phone and you'll be billed for that value, but not the $250 bonus.

              • @jigna27: I've heard they also charge you for the bonus if they don't receive the phone

                • @bisaya: There's nothing in the T&C about being charged the bonus, just the "trade-in value". I'm sure i've seen it in previous posts here were people have claimed the bonus and not sent in the phone. I haven't done it with JB's tradein group, but had no issues with Samsung.

                • +3

@bisaya: The way it is written when you verify your device:
If our Returns Depot does not receive your device(s) within 14 business days of your issued JB Hi-Fi trade-in credit, SquareTrade will charge the value of the JB Hi-Fi Trade-in credit to your credit card.

                  • @StranJer: Where did you see this message upon verification of device. Is this on a phone? Or a paper document? What if I don't use credit card (debit bank ACC)? Will they bill the extra trade value and or the extra JB hi Fi 250 bonus;if you don't send the trade phone in?

                • @bisaya: So what do you reckon? Are we going to get charged the $250 if we don't send the trade in phone and claim the bonus? I am so tempted lol

              • @jigna27: Hi so I'm in the same boat. Phone value $0. So if I don't send the device will I be charged the $250 or not? Thanks heaps

                • +1

@Zugnaziu: Do some googling, I'm sure there's a reference to it. My experience with Samsung trade in, I didn't send in the S20+ I used for trade-in. A month later I was charged for the amount of the s20+, but not the $500 bonus credit.

The way I see it, why would a big company waste time trying to get funds / phones back from customers? It's just too much of a nuisance when end of the day, they still made a sale.
                  1) They have to arrange contacting the customer.
                  2) Issue follow up calls, then collections.
                  3) Then deal with irate customers going to stores potentially abusing staff.
                  2) Then what do they do with all the phones (i.e. the Pixel 6a) that customers no longer want?

                  • @jigna27: Hi thanks for your reply. Yeah it actually makes sense. I guess I'm going to try my luck.
Also, I'll pop in at JB hi-fi tomorrow and explain the situation.
Let's see what happens. Once again thank you.

                    Cheers

                  • @jigna27: So just had a quick chat with a guy from JB hi-fi and he reckons you will get charged $250 if you don't send the trade in phone. It's tempting to try without sending the phone but if they really charge $250 then it's not really worth it as the pixel 6a is way overpriced at $749 in my opinion

                    • @Zugnaziu: Not sure how they can charge you for the $250. The Bonus is a discount code, where the trade credit is a JB giftcard. I'd think you'd only get charged for the giftcard amount.

But don't take my word for that. haha

                      • @303-Acid: It's so tempting as the pixel 6a at $499 is great value..
I don't know how they can charge the $250 but that's what the guy at JB hi-fi said. Maybe they have to say that to discourage people. Who knows. Really not sure what to do ahah

                        • @Zugnaziu: You can always buy the 6a and not open it. Don't send the phone in and wait to see what you're charged. If it's the full amount, take the unopened 6a back to JB for a refund.

Personally I think it's the same scenario as Samsung's trade-in, don't send the phone in, you get charged for the trade-in value of the phone but not the bonus.

                          • @jigna27: Yeah that could be an option actually, maybe I'll do that. Cheers mate

            • @desync: Was gonna try LG G4 mate!

          • -2

@BargainsGrabber: Most trade in phones will be valued at$9.95

            • +1

@paloverde88: Bullshit. Never seen $9.95. They'll simply give you zero of it's too old or in bad condition.

And you don't even have to send the phone. You could even just enter an IMEI of anyone's phone.

        • +2

Pretty much literally if its not an apple or samsung its worth $0. Their 'valuation' is insanely bigoted.

I'd have my v30+ over apple or samsung any day (except for photos)

          • @justtoreply: What about a Google pixel

          • @justtoreply: V30+ is approaching 4-5 years old and the battery is dieing.

            • +2

@garetz: From day one it was always an overnight charge, still is. So it's no worse. Plus dac, microsd, 3.5mm, radio, it's an audio dream. And 128gb… For $340 brand new.

              The ui is even fine.

The only thing it sucks at is photos.

But that's not the point. They assign $0 to anything not Samsung and apple. That's nuts.

              • @justtoreply: The photos weren't great, but it was the first phone which had a wide angle camera which I find useful as. I won't buy one nowt hat doesn't, fortunately it's been widely adopted

              • @justtoreply: Or Realme - my one year old bought from them is offered the $10 value…

              • @justtoreply: Pretty stupid its not like Samsung, Apple are the best

                • @neonlight: Apple's UI is utterly mystifying to me. I find it to be riddled with poor choices. And I'm a nerd!

I want to buy an iphone for better photos but the ui / lack of 3.5mm and sdcard is a dealbreaker

              • @justtoreply: Just install a Gcam and you're good to go.
I had an LG G5 & Gcam transformed my camera experience with that phone.
When I look back at my photos and compare them with my Pixel, I'm not disappointed. LG had even more details than Pixel due to 16mp sensor with the same Pixel look.

              • @justtoreply: It doesn't have any manufacture support. Why would you expect any second hand value to a recycler?

            • @garetz: I thought LG no longer make phones and that was official a decade ago as no one was ever into the thinQ nonsense

          • @justtoreply:

            Their 'valuation' is insanely bigoted.

Market value is based on market pricing, no bigotry required. The irony of your comment is that you seem to think that whatever thing you have should receive preferential treatment, regardless of market demand, which actually is bigotry.

FWIW, I just traded my Pixel 3aXL for $310 in coupons, no bigotry required…

I'd have my v30+ over apple or samsung any day

The great thing about living in a relatively free country is that you can have that. You are winning!

            • +1

@1st-Amendment: Rofl. No. I'm arguing $0. Surely any once good phone is worth more than $0. It's just they don't want to give the bonus.

              • @justtoreply: $0 is saying they don't want your phone, or don't have a market to re-sell it

              • @justtoreply: Why? They need to be able to sell it to someone.

                • @dotJaz: For $10 or $260? If it's a genuine promotion then $10 is the answer. I'm pretty sure you can sell many of these "$0" phones for $10.

        • S8 was $0 at JB for some time so I'd assume S8+ be the same.
S8 only worth $1 on Samsung tradein, so probably be $0 there soon too.

        • +1

I have a dead pixel one. Does that count?

        • i was gonna trade in my LG G4 if they accept it lol

    • +6
      • +2

I was blind and really need to get a checkup at spec savers
        Thanks

      • +10

Closes at 11pm, what kind of website is this…

  • +7

The trade in values seem terrible. Ipad that gets $180+ on ebay gets $0.

    • +3

Obviously. It's a business to make a profit, that has staff and overheads etc etc. If you want a fair price, go to private sale

    • +1

I mean with the $250 bonus, you're still ahead, and you don't need to stuff around with selling it! (I realise $0 doesn't qualify for the bonus)

    • Obviously $180 will have to include eBay selling fees and GST plus administrative (including evaluation etc) and shipping costs (both ways). That's just explicit costs.

Not even including the risks of not selling and opportunity cost. Buying an iPhone with the same money you pay for 3x old tablets is a guaranteed return.

Then they'll have to make a profit. That means it really does worth close to $0 for them.

  • +6

    60Hz display and 6GB RAM…!!!
Display will be a big drawback if you have previously been using 90Hz or above.

    • +6

Display will be a big drawback if you have previously been using 90Hz or above.

Ignorance is bliss. 60hz is fine for me as I've never used anything more on a phone.

      • +7

I have been gaming on 144hz monitor for ages and I WAS fine with 60Hz phone….. until recently I bought a 120hz phone and it's vvvveerrryyy hard to look back.

      • +4

Before using a 90 or 120hz screen, I thought 60hz was completely fine. I actually didn't like 90hz/120hz at first and it took me a while to get used to it. It was like it was too smooth.

But now there's no way I can go back to 60hz lol

      • If you have never used anything larger than 6.8" screen with 199 Hz screen than you should be fine.

    • Wireless charging is the main missing part for me

  • +7

You can get the Pixel 6 for cheaper on Amazon

  • (profanity). anyone wanna swap a 6A for a S22? I just got it a week ago in the JBHIFI trade in deal. This is the phone i wanted but couldn't be patient enough haha.

    • +7

      S22 trade in value of $600 + $250 bonus = swap an S22 for a 6a

      • -1

bro, how much more will it cost me to do that? im still interested.

        • +4

          499 - 600 = -101

So you should be $101 ahead, but with a worse phone. (Assuming I understand the deal)

          • @Aureus: i wont get 101 though, will i? they will give me money? that's nuts. im down. the only thing the s22 has on paper is useless shit liek wireless charging but i'd rather just have a phone i can plug in and use without the battery literally reducing 1% every 5 minutes of use.

            • @magnitude: Damn I thought of going to S22 as my Pixel 5 has to be charged like 3 times a day nkwt.

Sounds like I need to look elsewhere

              • +1

@bisaya: its got a powerful cpu and high refresh screen. means (profanity) all to me though, id just like a phone i can use all day and not have to worry about battery.

                • @magnitude: is it possible to set the refresh rate to 60hz and disable 5g?

                  • @desync: im on kogan so it should be using 4g anyways since they don't do 5g. and i dont know about the refresh rate but ive got it on battery saver so it should be done already?

                    • +1

@magnitude: Even though Kogan isn't providing 5g, your phone may be wasting battery searching for it though. Try checking your Network Mode settings under Connections -> Mobile network. Selecting "4G/3G/2G (auto connect)" might help.

              • @bisaya: I get 8 hrs SOT at least on my S22, so fairly heavy usage. 120Hz on, dark mode, mostly wifi, power saving off, BT always on connected to my Watch4, background usage off for selected apps that don't need to refresh.

              • +1

@bisaya: doesn't sound right. I got a Pixel 5 and even with heavy usage I can never go through the battery in one day. Might be a faulty battery?

            • +7

@magnitude: In short: You'll have $101 in a JB Hi-fi gift-card, and can use that to buy anything from JB Hi-fi.
In long: when you trade in your S22, they will give you a JB gift card with $600 balance, and a discount voucher which helps bringing down the cost of the Pixel 6a to $499. Use that gift card to pay for that $499 phone, you'll have $101 left in the gift card after the transaction completes.

            • +2

@magnitude: 1% battery use for 5 minutes of screen on use equates to 500 minutes (8 hours and 20 minutes) of screen on time. What's wrong with that? If you are on your phone screen for over 8 hours a day, you may want to reconsider how you spend your time ;)

            • @magnitude: What an entitled (profanity). Such a powerful phone in small form factor with 500 minutes aka >8 hours of screen time and you are still not happy.

    • +1

      lol

    • +3

I am in a similar state.

      BTW why 6a over S22?

      • battery hopefully, 3700mah is no good. i am coming from a cheap A52 5000mah oppo (i cracked it sadly) which i could charge and use all day and still not worry about battery life. this s22 i have turned evrything off, put most apps on deep sleep and on battery saving mode and i still find myself charging it 2x a day.

        • +2

I am in the same boat:) Don't care about the battery though. Need a better camera.

Surprisingly my ancient Pixel 3 takes better shots than S22. Not always, but most of the time.

          • @AFOS: The camera sensor in the Pixel 6a is basically identical to what is in your Pixel 3. The 6a is not adopting the new 50mp sensor that we saw in the pixel 6 / 6 pro.

            • @hamza23: Camera is the same but will get better tensor chip and google photo features such as magic eraser and colour correction for objects. Like a red bench in the background can be made black to be less distracting.

            • @hamza23: As someone who's used Pixels since 2019, google really f'ed the photo processing. They used to be so crisp, clear and naturally vivid on the P3, but they became this artificial somewhat blurred mess with the 4a/5. The old Google Camera app was so so much better.

          • @AFOS: Isn't the camera in the s22 better than the pixel 6a?

            • @stalker878: Not if you want to take lifelike pictures of humans. So much detail missing in people's faces on my s22 vs even my old pixel 2. Google and apple far and away the best for photos of people.

              • @picket23: which camera of S22 ? front or back ?

                • @bazingaa: I have both phones and been testing them extensively for the past a few weeks.
Front camera are pretty much the same in terms of details, but there's a big difference in colour and contrast. Because both Google and Samsung have different approach towards photography.
If you like more contrast then you would like Google style more.
If never used a Pixel, then I think S22 is fine for you.
S22 has a lot more features to offer which is great. Especially Pro mode.
For point & shoot people I think Pixel is better.
It really comes down to your taste.
But overall I think Pixel is better for most people.

    • I'd be keen

  • anyone reckon my canadian LG G6 in mint condition will qualify for the $250

    LOL

    • +2

As long as it's worth at least $10, you get the bonus.

      • +9

i just went through the process, they've given this beautiful LG G6 a value of $0

what an insult, cex will give me a $90 voucher
