          • @dinglejerry: Receipt seemed legit. Maybe JB allowed the price match to be done in store, and not through the 13 number or the live chat

I’ll give it another shot over the wkend

  • When does this thing come out? From the OP I understood it to mean the 6a was coming out today but they're all still pre-order only on JB site.

    • +2

      Friday 28th July 2022

    • From the OP I understood it to mean the 6a was coming out today but they're all still pre-order only on JB site.

Preorder starts today, release date is next Thursday.

  • Reckon it's worth it for a Pixel 4A (5G)? Looks like I can get $130, so $380 total. Looking online I was thinking I could get $400-$500 for it, but not confident, I don't want to go to all the trouble of selling and I only get $380 for it anyway haha

    • +1

$400-420 sold on eBay for preowned

      • +1

minus fees and postage etc its pretty much the same

    • Thanks guys, sounds like the trade-in is a good option then!

    • Post it on FB market and see what you can expect.
You still have time to claim the bonus $250

  • Just wondering - when does the 7 day countdown for sending your trade-in phone start, as this is a pre-order? From the moment I order the new phone or from when I pick it up?

    • +1

*Extended return times may apply with Prelaunch promotions.

I figure this means they'll be a bit more flexible.

      • Just emailed them to confirm, and quoting them:

"As part of the Google Pixel 6A promo, we are allowing 14 days for customers to send in their device.
This will start from the day the trade-in order is placed."

So essentially 7 days to send it in if I pre-ordered it today and dont have a spare phone to use before picking up the new phone.

  • Can you trade in for the phone, purchase it then return it? Keeping the 250 bonus and whatever your phone's trade in value is. Assuming I'm still trading in my old phone.

And then buy a different phone? Effectively just making the 250 bonus apply to any phone?

    • +1

no, the $250 works as a discount on the phone, so the receipt will say you only spent $499 so you would only be refunded $499.

      • So on the flip side, if I don't send in the trade in my credit card will just be charged ~$150 (trade in value) but still get the $250 discount?

    • Can you trade in for the phone, purchase it then return it?

I just bought one. The $250 bonus is a promo code bringing the price down to $499, so that is what you would get back if you returned it.

The additional credit for your old phone is in the form of a voucher so you would get that back, likely in another voucher.

      • +1

Does it appear as $499 on the receipt, or $749 with payment broken down as $250 voucher and $499 cash/card?

Wondering if I could get away by claiming price protection?

        • This is what I'm wanting to know too, would love to salary sacrifice full $749

          • +2

@cook99: Its a coupon at time of purchase, so it will say -$50 and -$200

          • @cook99: Wouldn't that cost you more than sacrificing the lower amount?

I remember buying a laptop with discounted gift cards and sacrificing the receipt amount but felt I ended up worse off.

I am rubbish at tax things though lol

        • It says $499 on the receipt they email you.

  • +1

Does it come with screen protector and case? Lots of other brands have them with their new phone

    • +1

      No

  • +1

Thanks, both our current phones are at end of life for updates. Got two of these.

    Very easy process.

Had to email support for the coupon and got it within minutes.

The problem is there are just so many many many 6a cases floating around.

  • I’m planning on trading in my Pixel 4XL but the 6a seems to be a step down in terms of the display.

In comparison the display specs are:

    Pixel 4XL - QHD (3040 x 1440) @ 537ppi with 90Hz Smooth Display.

    Pixel 6a - FHD (2400 x 1080) @ 429ppi with 60Hz display.

Also Motion Sense. The 4/4XL was the only Pixel to have the Soli Radar and it works really well, much better and with much more features than the current Nest Hub.

I can accept no Motion Sense, but will the reduced resolution, pixel density and refresh rate be too noticeable to use in comparison to the Pixel 4XL?

    Thanks

    • +1

You're comparing a flagship vs low cost. Prob best upgrading to P7 and avoid "a" versions.

    • I have a 4XL too, but was looking for a $10 trade in device to get the additional $250.

Don't forget the new phones don't get the unlimited compressed photo storage - I think 6/6a gets nothing.

I'd be keeping the 4XL and then transfer from other device to 4XL to upload (seems to be the way to go per google searches)

  • At around 360 for a trade in of a Google pixel 4A seems like a pretty good deal? I might go for it

  • +1

FYI, free 3 months Google one and YT premium with P6a
The Google One and YouTube Premium three-month trial offers are available to eligible users with the purchase of Pixel 6a. Offer expires 15 December 2023 at 11.59 p.m. PT. Valid form of payment required at sign-up, but you will not be charged until the trial period has expired. See youtube.com/premium/restrictions and one.google.com/offer/terms-and-conditions/pixel6a for more details.

  • Does anyone know if the Tax invoice for the phone will still show full cost of $749 even if using trade in credit towards purchase?
I want that full tax deduction 😉

    • it will show the cost after the trade-in value is deducted (before $250 is applied).

    • If it's like the S22 I bought at JB Hi-Fi, the tax invoice of the phone will show the cost as $499 ($749 cost minus $250 bonus coupon). The trade in value of your old phone is counted as a gift card and isn't shown on the phone invoice.

  • (Get a trade-in valuation of $10 or more to qualify for the bonus coupon.)

Hmm… wonder why that is 👀 lol

  • Is this an upgrade from the Oppo Find X2 Pro?

  • Can't trade my wife's a23. Doesn't exist on the trade in website :( Tried emailing them last time for the s22 deal but their response was unhelpful "We have raised this with our team, they will be looking into it"…

  • Anyone know how soon SquareUp expects us to send the trade-in phone to them? It states 7 days from getting the credit but also a caveat about extended times for prelaunch promotions. The earliest you would get the phone is on launch day so would you have to send the trade-in before getting the new one?

  • anyone have an IMEI for a device that is worth between $10-$20?

Thinking even if they charge for the device that you dont send, you're still $230 better off.

    Feel free to PM me

    • Would that work tho? Say you've got a P3 which is dead not turning on but able to provide the IMEI and not sending it, would they still let you keep the $250?
Or even iPhone 8 in good condition, worth $100 with this scheme and $150 through apple.
      Interesting to hear feedback

      • i dont see why not, from what i understand the $250 is sent as a voucher before you send back the old phone.

if you have an IMEI i'd be happy to try it and let you know. worst case is $20 loss if they charge you for not sending the old phone and they dont send a voucher

      • +2

As per the JB site "Trade-in orders that are cancelled, may also mean coupon cancellation" so presumably either the coupon is voided or the value, if spent, is billed to your card.

        • So you're saying he'll lose the whole $250 voucher if the trade-in phone isn't returned, not just the $20 value?

          • @Ice009: That's what it seems to say. Whether they'll follow through is uncertain but they will have your card details so…….

  • $130 for a mint condition pixel 4a (5g)

Pretty bad deal by itself, but with the $250 voucher - it brings the tradein value to be equal (if not a little more) than what they're going for second hand.

Only if you were going to pay rrp.

Some good news for fellow ozbargainers

I have successfully price matched Telstra price in store to further reduce the price to $649, with my trade in of $100 + $250 bonus.
Final price comes down to $299.
Gift card for further 10% off, makes $270.

Not bad for a brand new Pixel phone :)

    • Wonder if they will still pm for those who have already pre-order yesterday, as a gift card.

      • Can always try in store. Don't think they are doing it online as mentioned by previous poster.

        • I pre-order online yesterday so I think it'll be too messy to get this pm.

    • Any chance you could share the receipt?

      • +1
        • Are you a Telstra customer? I'm only with boost so doesn't work, they won't match despite me showing them this

          • @dinglejerry: See my comment below I am only a Boost customer as well but I did have a Telstra account from previous mobile plan. But like I said the guy did not ask for me to show him anything. I've only shown him the Telstra page with the price 649 when I first asked for the price match

            • @jobargain: wow, wish i was that lucky

            • @jobargain: Just called the store you bought it from, they won't do that deal now, looks like a directive has come in from head office and you got in before then :-)

    • Do you have a receipt you would be kind enough to share?

    • Can I get a step by process on how to do this in-store? Price match then ask JB for trade?

      • Nothing special really, went in ask if they can price match, waited for 5 minutes to confirm with manager and came back and said ok.
Did not ask if I have Telstra ID or anything.
Went up to the counter and pay with my voucher and gift card.

        • WOW. any advice if weve already it ordered online?

  • I have a pixel 1 and pixel 3. 1 has unlimited original storage only with low life battery (scared to open it up to replace). 3 has high quality saver storage. Is it worth trading off the 3 or is it better to have both photo storage options?

    • I'd keep only the P1. Bridge your daily beater and P1 with synching and turn the P1 on when you need to sync your pictures and upload to cloud.

  • Well the reviews are out and I decided to cancel my pre-order. I reckon it will be tough to resell it later given the huge discount going for both the 6a and eventually the 6. Not sure about the 7 either as it is still too big for my liking. If the 7a is similar to the Pixel 5, I will definitely be interested.

    • +1

      Reviews seem good all around.

I don't resell phones, but I don't think the resell will be that bad given that this is already a heavily discounted price. If anything this phone will probably have one of the closest to purchase resale price in the next coming years if you buy for the $499 + managed to use discounted gcs

I doubt it will fall much under this price. The jb trade in deals are good

4a is still selling for a big chunk, as are used / refurbed pixel 3, 4 and 5

They don't usually discount the old phones heavily, rather they just get discontinued and are still expensive.

    • +1

5 years worth of critical security updates. $500 for phone. $100 per year. Anything you get back at the end is a bonus.

    • Yeh this review on YouTube advised that the Samsung A53 is a better value than the Google Pixel 6a

      • +1

I got an A53 to replace a pixel 4 in Prime day sale which I'm returning. The camera is too laggy for taking photos of dogs and children in low light. I think it defaults to long exposure which either doesn't focus or just blurs. I'm thinking of getting the 6a instead now.

        • +1

I'm glad someone else noticed. I "upgraded" from a 3aXl to a S20 Fe after reading all the reviews (and the 5a not being released here) that it takes pictures as good as pixels. Which with full sun and a completely stationary subject are close enough. But half the indoors shots of my kids are ruined by blurry faces and under exposure. I wish reviews would add a moving subject to the photography section.

Can't wait to get this pixel, the fact it actually has a face deblurring algorithm thing is clutch with kids that won't stop moving haha.

        • How much did you pay for the A53 in the Prime Day sale?

I've been looking at the A53, S21 FE, Pixel 6A (the S21FE & 6A a full retail price are out of my price range). I wanted the best possible camera with whatever I bought (I am guessing the 6A would have the best camera of the phones I listed), so that is why I am looking at the 6A. Not sure if I'll like the smaller size of the 6A, but I guess that would be a trade off for getting a better camera.

Another option is to wait until the Pixel 7 comes out and see if there is any deals on the Pixel 6. Does anyone expect deals on the Pixel 6, or do they just get phased out at the current pricing?

  • Tried to price match in store with reciept or telstra 649 deal unsuccessful. Manager claimed pre order price can't be changed now.

I also tried to add $20 perks voucher but system came up saying "condition not met".. Maybe scan this first if others trying

    Paid 349 for me, 749 - 250 voucher - 150 phone value (s10+)

    Happy with price

    • Did you do the trade in in store too?

      • +1

No I still have my old phone.. Traded online. I'm given 14 days to post it

        • I can't find this info, is it 14 days to post? Or 7 days to post and 7 days for them to recieve?

    • Did you consider cancelling the trade-in giftcard and selling it on Facebook Market for > $150?

      • Good tip, might consider that now… Thanks virrgon

        • You can list the S10+ now and see what you can get without actively cancelling the trade-in as you have 2 weeks. And despatch the phone if you are not successful with selling.

  • What do you think is the cheapest 2nd hand device I could buy and trade in?? Newest thing I own is a cracked up S8…

  • If I take up the deal in store, can I do the trade in in store, and leave JB to deal with posting the device? If not, can someone confirm it is to a reply paid address and no postage cost incurred? Thanks

    • +2

Can confirm they send you an "express post returns" shipping label PDF which states "no payment required" for the trade in shipping.

  • How long do you have to send in the trade in? Do you get time to receive the new phone first?

    • +1

They've extended the time you get to return the trade in phone to 14 days so you won't be left without a phone before your new one comes.

  • The website wouldn't accept my Surface Go serial number. Serial is typed verbatim per Surface App. Will they have a workaround instore?

  • Couple of silly questions:
Is a galaxy watch qualified for $250 bonus? I tried my galaxy watch S3 and got $60 trade in value.
Can this $350 bonus be used to buy other phones than the coming P6a?
    Thanks

    • Looks like the Oppo X5 is also on the $250 deal

  • Did anyone else have any luck getting them to price match Telstra?

    • some people above did. Did you?

      • Unfortunately no.

      • They quoted "Get $100 off the RRP when you add a Pixel 6a to an eligible plan on Australia’s best network" as t he reason for not matching, because Telstra are using the offer to increase users.

  • I don't have a credit card, I only have a Debit Card… I can't do trade-in, right?

  • +2

    And mine just arrived.

  • if I upgrade from pixel 5 to 6a - can my data be transferred with both phones easily or do I need to manually do it

    • +2

Assuming you had backups turned on on the P5, It gives you an option to transfer your settings over when you start the 6a.

Apps and settings should transfer over. Passwords will if you've been using google password manager for your apps.

  • Does anyone know if you can stack this offer with the 10% click frenzy discount?
