btw has there been any word from google about tensor hardware tweaks

5g performance has been lacking on the pixel 6 even after all the software updates, general consensus is that it's down to an inferior samsung modem - who knows, could be a design flaw with the casing itself, if so the 6a being plastic might be all thats needed

  • Well done, thanks for sharing!

  • Also
    You'll need a separate charger
The latest Pixel 6a phones don't ship with a charger or headphones in the box. All Pixel 6 accessories can be purchased separately

    • Not a bad thing, I've got plenty of chargers lying around

    • are pixels particular about the charger

surely any old 5v 2a usb charger will do?

      • You would need at least 18W for fast charging

      • +1

Yup! I have a 6 Pro and a number of my chargers (that will charger Oneplus, Oppo, Nexus phones lying around our house) won't give it any juice. I can't speak to the 6a specifically, but definitiely do some googling around PD USB charging and this phone first, or you might be up for a new home/office/bedroom/ciggy charger etc. And that's not just for fast charging, that's for any charging.

Anyone else on a Pixel 6 pissed about them breaking splitscreen? Probably no coincidence they made it difficult to watch YouTube while browsing when picture-in-picture is a YouTube Premium feature.

    • +2

Yep, its not just pixel 6 but all pixels. Idk if it was YouTube or Google Maps or both but it sucks big time.

    • Huh, that feature is working for me again on my pixel 6.
I thought I broke it by playing around with the developer settings.

    • I can get split screen on my 6a pro.
Or is there a different split screen you're referring to

      • +2

So splitscreen used to do what it said, split your screen in two where you could have two apps running basically independently from one another, and it was super easy to change which app you had on top/bottom by going home then clicking a new app, replacing the "active" pane. This was replaced (for me anyway) with "split top", where now say I "split top" on YouTube, select another app (Reddit for example), and I'm then basically given a YouTube/Reddit pair. If I want to keep YouTube going but swap Reddit to chrome, instead of just hitting home then chrome, I need to close the Reddit half, do split top again on YouTube, the select chrome, and then I'll have YouTube/chrome open. Doing all this will also interrupt whatever you're watching on YouTube, before you could swap apps and have the video continue playing.

Could seem minor to some, but I spent a lot of the time on my phone multitasking YouTube with other apps, and now they've just made it way less intuitive for the sake of it.

        • Ohhh yeh I know what you mean now. Yeh I get that frustration too

    • +1

i never use the youtube app because the ads

      just watch youtube via brave

      • Does YouTube in brave allow picture-in-picture?

        • nfi, brave is just a browser, couldn't you just use split screen?

          • @desync: They replaced splitscreen with split top. Wasn't at all complaint about the YouTube app, just Google breaking their own features to entice people to buy YouTube Premium.

      • Try Newpipe for ad free YouTube.

Do we really need to submit the trade in phone ?
Is that same as Samsung trade in /no need to submit the trade in phone.
Don't understand why I am negged.

    • +2

No, but you’ll be charged with whatever the trade in credit you get on your debit card if you decide not to post your phone back

      • Thanks a lot

    • +1

Don't know why you're being downvoted, it's a perfectly good question.

    • Hi. So how did you go? Did you get the phone on the end? If so did you send the trade in or not?

  • +1

Man that’s rough my Nokia 8 doesn’t even exist to them, still works great though guess I keep it for another few years

  • +1

Is the $0 trade in hack still working?

  • +2

Still love my p2xl, wish someone can put a new battery for me. And I will be happy to put my Sim back into it.

    • Me too. I've had to turn battery saver setting on to make it last all day but it makes no difference.

    • nah mate it'll still won't work that good with a new battery

they do updates that secretly drain your battery…. I got P2XL and changed battery was minor difference

  • Is 6a better than 6? I have both pixel 2 and 6 ,love it

    • 6a is the cut down version.

      • 6a wont have glass back, better camera as 6, less ram and wireless charging. It will have longer software support and better fingerprint sensor.

    • +2

      Here’s a video that I was watching earlier comparing 6 and 6a:

Despite how much I love my G6P, it failed on me recently on a roadtrip so I don't know if I should continue with the Google ecosystem

If anybody have tips on how to fix a bootlopp G6P I would appreciate it

It just keeps flicking Google then black screen and good black screen

    • Warranty?

      • Yeah that's my backup plan as well but wondering if people can have some master reset that save me a trip and time,

        Cheers

          • @Herbse: Yep try this ^
You can then reset your phone. I always reset my pixel phones this way

          • @Herbse: Tried , it can go into the bootloader mode , but whatever I press it goes back to black screen and Google icon again…, Tried screen tapping, holding power and up/down key for long time , massage screen, flicking the power button, I sometimes think is it the battery that have issue as sometimes it shows a battery icon with little to know battery(red) colour

            • @Lengjaimarco: Oh that's weird. Do you get the battery charging icon when plugged it?

              • @Herbse: Nope, just black screen and Google icon back and forth, and occasionally when I try power/up down key combo I see it, it's a battery icon with a stream of red line at the bottom of the battery,

It does make me wonder if it's a bootlopp issue or battery or its time to move on….

    • +1

Flick the power button? It might be stuck.

  • Which site do I use to check trade in values?

    • +1

      JB Squaretradeup website

      • +1

There's a search box at the top, type in the name of the phone and follow your nose.

  • +8

Wish they kept the headphone jack 😔

    • They are also releasing the new pixel buds so I guess they want to push you to wireless.

    • Not sure if it comes with a USB-C to 3.5mm adaptor?

      • It doesn't, and it is not even remotely the same thing.

Can't charge at the same time, and I find that Android just doesn't work well with them. Lots of volume issues, some which hurt as it can skip volume levels and become insanely loud - at least it did that on my S22 Ultra and Pixel 6

  • Really weighing up this or a Asus Zenfone 9. I've always been super happy with my Google phones (5x and Pixel 3), so i think i might stick with the 6a.

    • Was considering these two as well. But heard a lot about the zenfone overheating. Happy with my pixel 2 after many years, so I'll probably bite the bullet once this one is out.

      • Also heard that Asus update support has been pretty pathetic in the past. Very used to just getting my updates immediately on the Pixel.

    • +1

another option is the nothing phone!

  • Does JB Hifi migrate the device over for you? e.g. from old pixel to Pixel 6a?
Do they then format / wipe the trade in device as well?

    • No, you get the new phone and then you have 7 days to wipe and mail your old phone yourself (shipping paid for by them). They need to receive it within 14 days so 7 days is a bit overly safe but that's what they say

      • ok thats not too bad! im guessing you go to a store to pick up the phone/ set it up there?

        • I went to the store for C&C but you could also get it delivered if you prefer. After you do the online trade-in stage you get emailed the packing slip that you print out yourself and bring to the post office with your phone. Up to you to pre pack or get a box there.

AusPost didn't charge me for a box and bubble wrap to pack it but I think that was a mistake?

    • Migrating from old pixel is easy you just make sure both devices are charged and connect them with a cable after choosing the option to migrate on the new device

  • Hm. Could trade my p3 for this

    • +1

It's worth $70 if perfect condition & 128gb. Hence $320 worth with the bonus. Not too bad.

      • That's a good idea - get better value out of the P3 vs selling it on Facebook Market. I am doing it just to get better value out of my P3 and maybe trading in the 6a when 7 comes out, as I dont need a new phone at the moment.

      • +1

It's worth $70 if perfect condition & 128gb. Hence $320 worth with the bonus. Not too bad.

I just checked the value on my P3aXL with cracked screen and dodgy charge port is still worth $60. Add the extra $250 bonus and it's a great trade up.

        • +1

I've tried with my P3 128gb which has a "drop" of burn screen (not bothering me since it's in lower left corner) and it's worth $0 :-(

          • @ShouldIBuyIt: What's a drop of burn-in and how?

            • @Fobsessive: Part of the screen the size of a nail stays black all the time on one corner. No idea what happened, bought off eBay for cheap, excellent battery. So it's not really burn-in like pink-ish or reminiscent image, but wouldn't know what category it falls in.

      • It's $50 for the P3 64GB model.

    • On the same boat but got into thinking, the camera specs is the same for both phones though the 6 has 12MP ultra wide on top. And then, you lose out on the unlimited space saver quality photos to Google Photos when you ditch your pixel 3.

      • P3 has unlimited space? I thought that ended in June 2021?

        • +1

It still does. Pixel 1 still uploads original quality, Pixel 2 to 5 uploads at space saver / high quality.

    • I want to do this as well. Do you think this p6a is better phone in every way than the p3?

  • Do we know how much the 7 will release for yet?

    • No, but I'd be surprised if it changed much from the 6.

+$100 at the most just due to chip shortages/inflation (though most of that was still an issue when the 6 was released and they did it for $999).

  • +3

Was tempted but no wireless charging..

    • Cheers, I was gonna ask the question.
Happy with my P4 I got second hand. I'll get the P6 in 2 years lol

      • +1

For whoever negged me. Bought my P4 $180. Also got P3 for $80 last year. P5 soon…

        • Where do you buy them from secondhand? I wouldn't mind trying to get a P5 if the price is right.

          • @Ice009: P5 is probably too early, once they release P7 will be good time to buy sub $200. eBay.

            • @ShouldIBuyIt: Ahh right, thanks.

Not sure if you or anyone else can answer this, but was looking at the Pixel 6a and Samsung S21 FE and not sure how the camera compares on the Samsung. I wanted to get a midrange phone with a good camera. Not sure what website/s to go to for camera comparisons between phones. Both are out of my current price range, but was going to look for deals on both. Was thinking of stretching my budget to $600 if buying a new phone.

I'll keep an eye on Ebay for the Pixel 5. Is it safe to buy off of Ebay? As in, would it be likely to get a phone that is not as described?

What price do you expect the Pixel 6 to go to when the Pixel 7 is released? Is there much difference between the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro? I am guessing I'd be happy with the Pixel 6 if I can get it a decent price when the 7 comes out.

    • I actually prefer no wireless charging. I spammed the wireless charger on my Pixel 3XL, Note 8 and iPhone SE 2. All 3 of them got their batteries degraded so much within a year because of the heat. I was using the first gen Pixel charger.

I would honestly recommend not using wireless charging unless you need it during the day and use wired especially at night.

The only issue I can see with this phone is the finger print scanner quality. Some tech leakers said it will get a better scanner than the 6 but lets see.

Not sure if to preorder or not.

      • I use Google maps continuously all day as a tradesman moving from job to job, have a wireless charger phone holder in the car. So my phone goes on wireless charger about 5 times a day. It still holds a charge just fine and I've had this phone a year and a half.

        • Which wireless charger you have ? Looking to buy one

  • Meh
    $0 for LG G3
    $0 for iPhone 7
and OnePlus is not even appearing in the list
Can get all of $150 for my Pixel 4XL, but I still like it.

    • +8

Weird that you don't get anything for 8/6 year old phones.

    • tbf you could probably get $250 for your pixel 4 on ebay

but then you have to give ebay their 13.4% cut

      • Facebook Marketplace is easy to sell without any commission

    • Trade in your pixel 4xl while it still works. I had to warranty mine 3 times. It died again 3 months after the last RMA. Then they wouldn't replace as it was 6 months over the 2 year warranty… 4 dead phones in 2.5 years, always same problem. Would have kept using the 4xl for another couple of years of it didn't keep breaking.

      • Sorry to hear your stories, mate. But I've been using my P4XL for more than 2 years without any issue.
Currently the trade-in value for good working condition is $150. Hmmm, I still don't think it's worthy to upgrade.
Might want to try a different way if any.
