    They are matching catch.com price.

JB Hi-Fi also only $10 higher so if you have some discounted gift cards will be cheaper.

Not sure why Amazon say RRP is $429 when all other sites say it’s $329.

  • +2

It was $26x from JB hifi recently when I bought it. Which doesn't help of course, but just cause you mentioned it hasn't been cheaper since January. $289 seems pretty ordinary.

Besides JB hifi, I saw it cheaper than $289 at ebay etc as well. But yeah, we are not talking about a particularly large difference in price. I'm yet to see a REAL deal for this one as it's still just slightly below RRP.

If you need it for mother's day, it's obviously a good choice though.

Edit: I double checked and I bought it 8th of April from Amazon (they were price matching JB) for $263. Just for anyone interested.

  • does it make good ice cream?

    • +4

Depends what you put in it. This is definitely a device for home chefs. You can run really simple stuff through it (eg fruit) but for best results you'll want to spend some time experimenting. It's essentially a copy of a device called a Pacojet, which was something you'd only find in fancy restaurants.

      • ok cool, i hope i can make coffee ice cream

      • I remember those machines costing a bomb. We'd blend the icecream fresh for the order to ensure it was super creamy. They had heaps of different flavours in the canisters. Never heard of one breaking though, so think they're incredibly reliable.

Wanted one a while ago but the costs put me off. Glad there's an alternative available now!

Costco has the KitchenAid ice cream maker attachment for $59.97 (clearance)

    • +3

Totally different method to this. I have tried the result of Pacojet, and if this Ninja can mimic closely, that would leave KA's ice cream maker far behind.

      • Haven’t tried either tbh

After buying previous products from Ninja, it's safe to say these guys have some of the worst warranties and parts I've ever seen. I wouldn't buy anything else from them until they start looking after customers.

Why buy this when you need to make the base, then freeze it. You could put the frozen base into a kitchen wiz/blender (which you probably already own) and acheive the same result.

    • +4

Will be nowhere near as creamy as this can get

    • +2

If it produced the same result, the Pacojet would never have been invented.

You're right, which is how my grandmother (Nonna) has been doing it for almost 100 years now and a billion other Italians for at least 50 years before that.

But hipsters say you need fancy, expensive machines to acheive this simple stuff.

        Ice cream in a blender?

        • +3

I don't know where they got the blender and freezer from 150 year ago.

  • if you dont eat your meat you cant have any

How can you have your puddin' if you don't eat your meat?

I seen cheaper ice cream maker from aldi

Chalk and cheese, ive also seen a magimix ice cream maker for twice the price of this and this makes ice cream just as good..

  • +3

if you're a fan of sorbet this thing amazing, just pour a can of tinned fruit into the containers and freeze. i tried dole pineapple chunks in juice and syrup, both were great. the syrup version stayed the same consistency even after refreezing due to the sugar, the one in juice may need a respin depending on the consistency you like.

It's the opposite to a standard ice cream maker which you put room temperature liquid into a cold gadget and churn it incorporating air making light fluffy creamy ice cream.
The Ninja takes a frozen block and shaves it at high speed . The results are a heavier version of much more intense flavoured desserts. I regularly make sorta healthy smoothie bowls in it. Many health nuts use high protein shakes and turn them into high protein low carb post workout treats. Some mums use them to add hidden vegetables and other healthy things into kids meals.
Definitely have to say most things in it come out great. Much more simple than cooking a custard like ice cream base. Most recipes take less that 5 minutes to put together with only 3 or 4 ingredients. The only 2 downsides are it's really noisy for the 4 minutes it takes to process, plus you need to freeze the mix supposedly for 24 hours in advance( usually still works with 8-10 hours). Oh the ice cream is much colder feeling than a traditional ice cream so you are likely to get a brain freeze it you eat it quickly.
America has 4 models that use 3 different sized containers . Unfortunately we only have the older model with 7 functions in Australia. The US deluxe model seems super popular with alcoholic slurpee options.
One of my favourite flavours I make is maple bacon flavour( haven't seen that flavour at woolies before).

    • Pleasantly surprised with our creami and yes brain freeze for sure.

  • +1

If you do purchase one make certain to purchase the extra 4 pack of containers for about $53.
The 2 it comes with are not enough. Much easier to match a few flavours of treats in one go and put them all in the freezer and pull them out each time you want one. Then when you have ALMOST run out make up another batch. If you had to wait 24 hours every time you made one it would be frustrating.

NO, NO, NO!!!! This is not an icecream maker! This is a blender of frozen stuffs. For this price you can get an actual proper compressor ice cream maker. This is passing off $#!t as clay.

Compressor will take hot base and turn it into a frozen, this is what you need. Go look up recipes and how to make ice cream.

Alternatively, go buy a cheap frozen bowl one (uses a pre chilled vessle not a compressor). They work well for small quantities and if you can pre-chill (not pre-freeze) in the fridge.

Here's a good look at Pacojet vs Ninja Creami
A compressor ice cream machine has always been on my long list - this may be a better option.
