Google Pixel 7a 128GB + Bonus $150 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card - $749 + Delivery ($0 C&C/In-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

280

Same deal as https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/773423 however at a slightly less controversial retailer.

This year Google has bridged the gap between the main model and the A series with a 90hz screen and a 64 megapixel camera, which were the main compromises on the 6A (60hz screen, 13 megapixel sensor), so the phone is now essentially the 7 with a smaller screen and plastic back.

Note: Google Pixel 7A is set to 60Hz by default. Go into the display settings and toggle on Smooth Display for 90Hz.

I stayed up to watch the Keynote and see the Pixel Fold but apparently it's not coming to Australia. Very disappointed. I was really interested in it.

Watched the keynote as well, but for $1799 USD and Tensor G2 they can keep it for themselves. Fold 5 will be here in 3 months probably with SD8 Gen2 or SD8 Gen2+ and if you have access to uni email or govt portal it will be significantly cheaper, even without the portals the trade ins + pre order bonuses should be worth while over the Pixel Fold.

      • +3

I like the form factor of the pixel fold over the fold 4/5

      • +1

I saw some leaks of the Fold 5 being thinner due to the new hinge design removing the air gap when closed. I'm coming from the Fold 3 so and the one thing I hope for is a wider outer screen. The narrow outer screen makes it hard to type, and I use that outer screen for everything except for videos and reading.

      • Does Google have a gov portal? I thought only Samsung had.

        • Nope they don't, however if you have access to unidays or studentbeans you can get 10% off code. But that's about it, and the coupons are not stackable with sale products, so if you were to use the 10% off code on a sale item, it will take 10% off MSRP.

    Link not working

    • Not sure what happened; edited the link should work now :)

Crazy to think that the "budget" pixel is now $750 on release
Edit: having said that, I will probably be selling my s22+ to get one

    • Looking at the differences between the 7 and the 7a 750 RRP is a very good price

      • +1

Too many crappy differences between pixels, they really should have taken a page from Apples book. Have all the core specs the same, change the size and maybe a camera feature between the top two. The third cheapest version gets the same internals again but with less cameras and less premium build materials. Instead Pixels are all over the shop, making the 7a a decent pick over the 7. Although losing out of water resistance, main camera module smaller than the top two pixels…ouch

        • Even iPhone 14 has different chips

  • Do they normally let you use the voucher at that time to buy it? I have $300 of vouchers to use already so I could get this for 749–> $599 —> $299 out of pocket

    • No they don't, you pay the $750 and walk away with a $150 voucher

      • +4

        And a phone.

        • you could leave the phone in the store if you want. nothing stopping you.

          • @TexasVujicic: Or I can have the phone & you can have $150 gift cards

  • What's the return policy like with vouchers? Do you need to return the voucher?

  • Pixel 7A or Galaxy S23 if the price is similar? Need a new phone for my wife, and she doesn’t want a super big screen so they are both decent options.

  • Genuine question here, big improvement if moving from pixel 5 to this 7A? TIA

    • +2

      No

    • Define "big improvement" . It a relative meaning to each person. A big improvement for me would be a galaxy s7+ to s10+.

  • Can you use the $20 Perks discount on this as well?

  • Wonder if they'll throw in a free case, like Google Store is doing.

  • Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but anyone has issues with Google Pay on Pixel 6a? New to Pixel phones, but picked up a 6a from Optus deal and card added to Google Pay doesn't seem to work (terminal says failed to process contactless payment)

    • Did you unlock the phone with fingerprint before paying?

      • Yep, tried at two different OW stores and didn't work (trying to pay with same card, at two different OW stores so diff POS terminals) which leads me to think that it's the phone rather than terminal issue.

  • Walked into a JB shop the night before last, asked if I could have 'special edition cover' like Google store. The friendly staff checked several things for me at the back of the store. End up paid $1,425 and walked out with two Pixel 7a, one blue, on white and a blue official cover (they do not have the white cover).

First impression: the blue one, with colour matched camera bar and edges, is beautiful. The blue cover is ordinary.

I have had Nexus 4, 5, Pixel 3,4,5 and some are still alive, but many died around 2 years use.

I'd be expecting my phone to last more than 2 years. I have my Samsung S8 since 2017 right up till 2 weeks ago when I swapped over to Pixel 6a. A bit concerning if Pixel phones last about 2-3 years…

      • Bought two of the same model for the house most of the time. Still have ONE Nexus 4, 5, Pixel 3 XL around the house. Quality control issues?

Pixel 7a has " made in Vietnam" printed on the back of the phone. Not sure if there is difference on the quality control.

      • No stock in that store. End up bought a $11 transparent case from Amazon, arrived 2 hours ago (ordered yesterday)

    • How did you get the discount? $1,425 for 2, $712.50each, did you still got $300 gift cards?

      • I only asked if the package includes a 'special edition cover' like that in the Google store. End up I was offered $700 each for the Pixel 7a, and $25 for a Google cover.

Yes, I got $300 gift cards. No expiry date.

  • Did anyone receive the $150 gift card from them?

  • I noticed that audio specifications are not listed - neither the 6a nor 7a support Spatial Audio. This may be important for some who were hoping to enjoy Spatial with head tracking (same as the Apple implementation) with the new Pixel Buds: https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/12967594?hl=en-…

  • Ordered, got no $150 gift card, is it just slow?
