Browsing for a new set of salt and pepper mills on Amazon. Smaller size going for $83 so seems to be pretty good value. Haven't found the matching salt mill at a similar price though.

  • Nice, a bit big for me though

This seems like a better deal to me: https://www.amazon.com.au/OXO-Contoured-Mess-Free-Pepper-Gri…

And upward facing too, so no mess.

    • Can also consider these - https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B09PG2SXHL/ref=ppx_yo_d…

      Upward facing and auto-grinding!

      • +1

A grinder that will probably dispense hard to control amounts of product and will only last 3-5 years.

Are we so lazy turning a grinder needs to be automated?

    • Peugeot grinders are made in France, I'd imagine they'd last longer. I have a couple of Marlux grinders and they're excellent, definitely recommend.

      • Not a fan on reliability of their Prince mill.

  • Is it a petrol?

    • Peugot were making pepper grinders long before they started making cars

      • Interesting. Thanks for the insight!

  • You're paying for the brand.. Worth it if you know your mills lol

    • +1

And you're paying for county of origin. Having one less thing in the house made in China is never a bad thing.

Got these Ikea ones that seem to do the job well. Grinder up top as well

  • I never understood why salt & pepper grinders are so expensive. It's a category when money ≠ quality. My repurposed saxa ones from woolies have outlasted my previous Oxo, Joseph Joseph, Cole & Mason and Maxwell & Williams.

    • it's the same as mobile phones and any other tech.

why do you need a flagship phone Vs a mid tier that basically does 99% of the same.

people have the money to spend.

The days before 'tech' the battleground was in kitchen appliances.

      • +1

Thats not it at all, a saxa salt mill may last 10-15 years the Peugeot ones will last a lifetime or longer.
I prefer flagship phones too, yeah same features as mid tier but so much better. Kind of like buying a great wall ute or a hilux, they both do the same thing.

a saxa salt mill may last 10-15 years the Peugeot ones will last a lifetime or longer.

The ones i listed are apparently quality, but none lasted more then 12mths. The $5 saxa (made to be single use) has lasted over 4yrs. We've alao got a cheap clear plastic refillable woolies brand one thats over 5yrs. Yet my better half has spent heaps on pretty ones, but they all break.

So unlike your tech example..the cheaper ones actually last longer. The internals seem to be better.

          • @M00Cow: yes in fact the more expensive ones are more likely to fail because they're trialing more new tech. the lower tech, the longer they last. Same with cars.

So if a low-end one works for you, great!

          • @M00Cow: Well if your better half bought a Peugeot it has a lifetime guarantee. We too have the clear plastic ones, i think some pink salt or whatever came in them. They are ok, not great to use and I couldn't adjust the grain size, not to say it wasnt possible it just didnt seem like the clear one has this ability.

Doesnt look real Peugeot. I hope they pay the copy rights oopps

      • errr… this is NOT chinese, the logo and brand is legit.

Peugeot brand actually did start out making kitchen tools in 1810 and mills and grinders were their thing. They pioneered with Diamler in late 1800s in automobiles which we hear more about.

The kitchen tool segment did rebrand into Peugeot Saveurs and logo on this looks legit.

Here's a link to history if interested. https://us.peugeot-saveurs.com/en_us/inspiration/history/

They're like Tesla of Electric cars… the original.

  • It’s made in France and has a lifetime mechanism guarantee.

It's also high margin slow moving stuff. Best to buy at cost during sales like 75% off .

      • I agree it’s probably the least attractive of the entire range and probably a parallel import. Inflated Aud RRP

    • Like the over priced Le Creuset cast iron stuff.
Kmart ones are 1/10th of the price and appear to last just as long (20yrs & counting)

      • -1

Firstly country of origin. One less thing made in China. Also quality control is a statistics thing. I had to buy two temporary pots from target/kmart etc. One rusted literally after the first wash, the other was ok - also they were flimsy.

Sure you can buy 3 and you'll probably get one that goes the distance, but if you can afford it you get one decent product, well made, and made somewhere else.

  • What so special about this? you can get 2 electric grinder with cheaper price…
