      • yeah i do, i uses it to stream all my sports ….

  • Awesome . .many thanks to the O.P for the heads up .. been looking …since the famous Centrecom special for a tab to park on the coffee table..
just picked up from the city store.

  • Just picked it up from South Melbourne, they guy said they are now putting a 1 per customer limit on it and are not taking any more orders for the day, he said there should be more tomorrow though.

  • Sounds better than the new iPad?

    • Not really. This is a tegra2 tablet, which is much weaker than the new quad core iPad.

Performance wise it's pretty outdated, won't play 1080p media files without chugging abit.

    • this vs ipad2 is more like it. This A500 is cheap for a reason. They can't get rid of old stocks at rrp price.

  • lucky buggers. I'll have to pay an extra $25 (inc CC surcharge) for the privilege of being in Sydney. May be it's a sign that I SHOULDN't buy one

    • +1

Don't be silly. Just buy it. :)

    • LOL I bought it anyways, even for that extra bit you also get the 100 evoucher so pretty worth it

    • I chose bank deposit so you don't have to pay for cc surcharge, but may take longer to process tho)

      • I used bank deposit and payed on thursday night and they still haven't processed it. I'd have thought the money would have gone through by now.

        • An hour after posting this… my order gets processed.

you're right, I can probably sell it on ebay 2 years later for the same price. Plenty of morons on ebay (personal experience)

  • I thought I was getting a bargain when I bought one waaay back in September last year at officeworks for around $389 when the normal price around the place was $600+

I'm just a bargainwhore and bought another one just now, which I can use at work for testing web page usability..

Guess those speakers I've had my eye on for the VSX521 I bargained last week will have to wait a bit longer now that I've spent my funds on the tablet…

    • Which are those? I ended up getting those $99 JMAX…awesome quality for the price…

  • I'm going on a self imposed ban from OZB!! You guys make me sick LOL Another piece of eqpt on my desk which I don't need!!

Don't forget to subscribe to the newsletter first!

  • anyone know a place where i can pick up a relatively good cover/stand for this ?

  • I just got one from ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200772…

    EUG - What newsletter? why?

    • So you won't miss out on any deals during your .. um … self-imposed ban…
      http://blog.ozbargain.com.au/2011/ozbargain-newsletter-have-…

      • LOL gotcha!

    • How is the case? Pros and Cons?

      • No idea. Just bought it based on looks. It says SOFT finish which is what I was looking for. If you have the patience I'll tell you when it arrives in 2 weeks.

    • haha the stitching and construction looks a bit better than the other ones on ebay, might grab this one thanks

  • Have had one since release and only just swapped now for Nexus7.
    Notes for tinkerers:
    - Built like a brick, easy to dis/reassemble.
    - Reasonably easy to root/rom, with plenty of choices for rom / OC.
    - Cyanogen (both ICS and JB) on the way.

  • Looks like it's sold out

  • Suprise Suprise - They are now SOLD OUT.

I thought about it for toooooo long. Maybe a good thing, because I didn't really need one.

  • Sending this from my new iconia ………………….spoke to the guy in west Melbourne store they have 300 in stock that store alone so they will definetly have more tomorrow they are just haulting sales for the day to avoid the next tax bracket. I'll be totally honest the tablet is heavy but a hell of alot more solid and better than I thought it would be. For people who think the tegra t250 is out of date its not for people who don't want to spend 500+ on a 10" tablet its a very fast CPU with I cs gingerbread and honeycomb not so much but who cares just get it you won't regret it!!!!!! Take my word for it.

I rang the Richmond MLN store and they said that their stock was all sold but that they had more coming Saturday. So I went to the W Melb store. They had lots, and said that they did not know why it was so cheap. But, I got one …
I fired it up Friday night and went through all the registration stuff, and then updated it. I now have ICS running like a blur, and have downloaded a bunch of apps from Google Play. All work about the same as my wife's iPad 2, but this tablet is a little heavier.
Excellent quality, good build but the screen is not quite as good as the iPad 2 (close, though). Best thing is that I did not have to root it to install ICS so the warranty is still intact. I will qualify for the $100 store credit at Dymocks, so that is some of our Christmas shopping taken care of and it brings the 'real' cost of the Iconia down to $99.
Also, expandable storage via MicroSD card (have a 32gb in this now) and a full-size USB port. So I am typing this with a mouse plugged in and with an Apple Bluetooth keyboard, exactly the same as my work iMac and my MacBook Pro. This is my new plane and travel computer.
    Brilliant. Could not be happier.

  • Now just waiting for apple to have there ipad2s for $199, should be soon since it's old stock, and old stock always becomes clearance :)

    • Consider Apple is still selling iPhone 3GS 8GB for $449 on their website — they certainly have too much demand for old stocks to drop them to clearance price.

    • There is no way this will happen unless Apple is doing a fire sale to liquidate its business. Tim Cook is an expert of inventory control (and that was why Jobs wanted him on board in the first place) to start with. I doubt you will ever see an ipad 2 for $199 as they will just discountiue the products. They don't want to upset earlier adaptors to see a huge price drops and worsen the resale values of their second hand products. They will simply make a new tablet in different sizes (i.e. ipad mini) and functionality for cheaper prices.

  • Hi Guys, I was told from Essendon Store that they take pre orders for next day pickup. I preordered and picked up on saturday. Well its nice to handle and has the old Androrid. how to upgrade to ICS. please let me know if anyone has done.

    • Gday. I turned mine on and went through all the personalisation stuff (input WiFi settings, email address etc) and then it prompted me to download some software updates. The big update for ICS downloaded but it did not work until, abt 30 mins later, I checked for Updates in Settings. That led to another download for a bootloader, and once that activated, it prompted me with a request to download and 'big update'. That was ICS again, and this time, it updated after it downloaded. The process was a bit lumpy, but after about 90 mins, it rebooted with ICS and works beautifully. It was a slight puzzle at the time but stick with it.

    • Make sure you have ICONIA TAB Update Enhancement installed (you can find it in Android Market/Google Play) before you can successfully upgrade to ICS. You then just need to "Check Update" in the settings.

      • when i go to to this app on the market website on the tab it wont let me download it cos it says its incompatiable with the device? how do i get around this or whts the reason?

I even tried to directly download it from the acer wesbite but the link is dead

        • try search apk file on the net.

    • type iconia in the play store and download that app

  • From what you guys have been saying about stocks, I think MLN just saying no stocks because they dont want to honour their offer. Website says until Wednesday it is valid. I went to west melbourne on saturday, although they have lots of stocks on the counter, the guy said all sold. Maybe this is just a gimmick?

    • I rang one of the shops Saturday afternoon (someone in my family wanted to get one as well) and the guy told me that they received 600 to sell and they were all sold either in the shops or online. He also said that there was no plan to get in more stock. Does not sound promising.

  • Meh just go and price match it, Officeworks 5% beat, mdomt tell me you forgot that?

    • Ow still stocks iconia a500?

  • no only A510 32b version (shame)

  • Also I think the Logitech K400 wireless kboard/mouse would be the perfect accompaniment for this.

HINT - LOGITECH-SHOP, Post a good offer on these (so I don't have to go to officeworks where I can get it for $40)

  • Is there any MLN Store having the Stock for this Acer Iconia A500 in Victoria ???

  • If are having issues updating to ICS from HC - you must download from the Play Store a program called "ICONIA TAB Update Enhancement", otherwise it will keep telling you there are no updates.

  • Further to the A500.
I was just in The Good Guys in Nunawading, and they have some genuine Acer cases for the A500 and A501. They are the ones with a suede-type exterior and the microfibe lining, and understandably, fit perfectly. They have the magnetic tabs that fold to make the case into a stand for the unit.
I have seen these in a bunch of other stores for $59. They are marked at $25 at TGG but they discount to $23 at the checkout. That is not a massive discount (that's 8% according to my maths) but it is 61% under the original price. And if you were lucky enough to pick up an A500 at MLN, the savings continue.

  • If you live in Sydney and want to sell it let me know :)

  • My a500 has always occasionally suffered from what I call the "sleep of death" where it basically dies in it's sleep.

  • I don't receive any invoice upon arrived of my a500 parcel. Anybody claimed the acer cash back yet?

    • crap i almost forgot about that! hmm, didnt they email you one?

      • yeah they did but it is not the invoice just order summary. And I doubt could it be used for the cash back claim…
