Beem BPAY Problems

Is anyone having problems using Beem BPAY over the last day?
I was able to make 4 payments of $1000 to the ATO using Beem BPAY over the last few days but now I keep getting
"There was a problem with your payment, try again later".

Wondering if my account has been blocked or limited? or if it is a general issue

  • I’m having the same problem. Put a tester $100 through on Sunday (which worked) and then yesterday tried $2k and couldn’t get it to go.

    • I found $2k didn't go through so I did $1K payments. They were working till yesterday…

Same issue here. 2 lots of 1000 worked last Friday. Not even 100 works today.

    • +1

Got 1000 through just now. Tried again and got the same error. Seems like you just need to keep trying?

    • +1

Now somehow I managed to make 3 payments of 1000. Thought the limit was 2000?
      Overpaid my hecs now :(

      • Sent them a support message before work this morning, looks like they got the message!

  • Didn't realise Beem could do BPay payments - are there fees, does it still give points?

Just paid off via regular BPay on my credit card my HECS - to at least blow out the time I actually need to pay it off by a month but Beem might have been better idea.

  • +1

And they have now shut down bpay through beemit completely :(

    • When did they do this?

      • I just saw the app and there is no bpay option. They might have updated the app.

Looking for other ways to pay bills using BPAY but not get charged processing fees. Found Zip can do it but it charges a flat fee of 2.50

    • Just noticed it missing as well. Could be temporary?

    • Just noticed this too ugh - just as was about to make a payment

    • I've noticed it too, no BPay option. Very frustrating given today is the last day ATO recommends for HECS voluntary repayments, before indexation occurs

    • +1

Here's the thread on the Australian FF forum re: disappearance of BPAY functionality, in case someone is looking for the backstory

  • +4

"We are currently making some changes to BPay so it's down while we get that sorted. We do not have an ETA at this time so if you have bills that need to be paid urgently then you may need to find an alternate payment method"

Something about Beem going viral on Tik Tok in regards to paying HECS debts via BPay.

    • +1

It's been Ozbargained. Some guy posted the whole "Workaround" on Tik Tok and it was viewed 430000 times (at least). I doubt the ability to bpay via credit card via beem will return. You might be able to pay via debit card, but why would you bother?

      • paying CC statements with Debit, from one place ..ahah

  • +3

    Any alternatives to Beem anyone?

Also whoever posted onto TikTok needs a slap… 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • I decided to use Zip Pay. There is a $2.50 per transaction fee and your account limit may vary (they say "up to $1000" but I only got approved for $350 because of my income and living situation), but still better than sniip if you're paying by CC (by comparison, sniip has no account limit but charges 1.5% of the total transaction, if using VISA/Mastercard).

      • +1

I just got rejected from Zip Pay 😭

        • Maybe try sniip? The 1.5% per transaction is higher than ATO's fee (0.72% for VISA/mastercard) but you'll still get reward points, if you care about that

This is the Tiktok dude who you want to slap https://p16-sign-sg.tiktokcdn.com/aweme/720x720/tos-alisg-av…

For Westpac at least you can go into internet banking -> Make a payment -> Select BPAY tab

Then can pay using the ATO BSB and Ref for your HECS account with your credit card account.

This will likely not earn points as per Altitude terms and conditions but doing this should allow you to at least avoid the ATO credit card payment fee charged directly on the ATO payment website and you will benefit from the interest free period of your credit card at the very least (if you pay it back in full when the next statement is due)

I've checked and most other banks also have this feature BPAY from credit card to pay bill (it's just that they will not give you any points typically)

      • Some BPAY from credit card might be considered as a cash advancement.

I've checked with CommBank and ATO BPAY payments are fine and there's no additional fees or charges. Some billers don't accept credit card payments so BPAY payments using your credit card through internet bank will be considered as a cash advancement.

Uhhh if it gets removed cause of TikTok morons I'm gonna be so annoyed. I use it to pay my bills too…

      • Ended up BPAYing via my Westpac and NAB CC - probably won’t get the points for $6000 I just blew to the ATO 😢

Can the TikTok clout chasers stop ruining… everything 😭

      • +2

For what it's worth, the same guy is pretty active on the Qantas point collectors FB group and did help a lot of people get their points.

    Just got an email

Our standard T&Cs have been updated
If you haven’t already, you’ll be able to view and accept these next time you log in to Beem.

Our BPAY T&Cs are also changing
These will come into effect on Friday 26/5/23 at 10:00am AEST & will be visible in the legal section of the app.

The BPAY terms haven't updated yet, guess we'll find out tomorrow

    • +1

This does not sound good. I'm guessing no more BPay with credit cards, only debit cards.

      • +2

Either that or they'll introduce a fee for CC is my prediction

  • +1

was wondering when they'd plug this loophole to get easy cc points

  • Can anyone see the BPAY button? Mine is still not showing

  • +5

    looks like it's over

4.1. Bpay Payments can be made from an Australian debit card added to your Beem account. You must nominate the card you wish to use prior to processing your payment. Beem does not permit BPAY Payments to be made through the use of a credit card.

  • +4

    F.

It was a good run. Racked up so many points using this.

    Damn tiktok clout chasers.

    • +2

Yup agreed, next gen can't/won't keep their mouths shout. Ruined it for the rest of us.

  • +1

    RIP, ruined by Tiktok fools

What is the next best way to BPAY bills and still get CC points with minimal extra fees? I assume Zip?

    • Zip doesn't allow all Billers (most but not all) including DEFT (rent payments)

      • So there's no point in signing up for zip if I wanted to use my CC to pay for rent through DEFT?

  • +3

This is your guy… and the video that ruined it all. Lol.

    https://www.tiktok.com/@simontheberry/video/7236592828116192…

Alright, what other workarounds are there?! Zippay doesn't really work for me due to their limits at the moment.

    • +2

Would something like prepaid vanilla visa giftcard work? (Is considered a debit card? )

      • Need to look into this, but good idea.

      • +2

There's a clear distinction, prepaid cards are not debit cards and Beem doesn't let you add those (I've tried). It also must be a debit card that supports EFTPOS transfers which not all do.

    • What is the limit on Zip?

And will i get limited if i have a high salary?

      • Dunno. I'm stuck on $350 atm. I've had this a long time, but never really used it. Says I can't increase the limit at the moment. I don't remember supplying any salary info as well.

        • Looks like Zip Money might have a sign up fee from 0-99 dollars. I wonder how people got goer Zip Pay account limits raised above $1k

I want to get my Zip account ready for my next Bpay bill

          • +2

@Anon257: There's no exact criteria, but an extract from this article on Zip might give us some clues:

What if I am not eligible for a Zip Pay limit increase?

We frequently review eligibility for an increase, you will receive an in-app notification or email confirmation if, and when, you are eligible. A strong repayment history will be beneficial to your assessment.

Please note the maximum limit for a Zip Pay account is $2,000, please click here to learn more about Zip Money."

            • +1

@tim9800: Thanks, I made a Zip Pay account and got auto approved for $1000, I guess ill try do more spending on it to get the limit raised

              • @Anon257: yes i think they can approve you for $2000 next after a certain time.
Until then you just gonna have to play slowly. I still think Zip is Best option for CC payments Bpay etc,

      • +1

I got approval for $1000 straight away thought i would be getting $350. they didnt check my income but did make me log into my bank

    • +2

Having 250k in a savings account is not winning

    • +7

This also coming from a guy that "abuses" free amaysim sims based on your post histories. Loool bruh, you must be fun to be friends with.

    • Why the heck you need Beem for Bpay with Debit cards ? when all major Aussie banks (that issue you debit card) have a Bpay option built in their system - like ING, CommBank, NAB, Westpac, etc. etc. ????

Believe it or not people on debit cards are getting screwed always by the people paying with Credit cards. There is no way you can remove the Credit card users generally. So best to jump over to other fence and be a Credit card user yourself and earn $$. AND GIVE UP THE STUPID MINDSET. (if you got money managing issues that's a separate topic)

  • Only if I knew about this in 2021. Would of save many surcharges. RIP Beem

  • -1

Bloody annoying! Was just about to pay strata using Beem and bpay has disappeared. Any alternatives available for Bpay without fees? I know there is Zip Money but that has a cap..

    • +1

Depends on what you need to BPAY, if your BPAY receiver accepts multiple payments, Zip might be the way to go now :/

      • +1

Yeah - I think you're right. My Zip limit is only $1k atm - hopefully can bump this up over $1k and can avoid the $2.5 BPay fee! What a shame Been is not longer an option :'(

        • +2

Zip at $350 is hard that's what I have too

        • +1

Zip pay will no longer include a BPay fee from 31 July 2023! Too bad I'm locked in at $500 and they won't up me

          • @Untalentedllama: My account was unlocked today - called Monday. So it just takes them a few days to unlock.

  • +2

Used zip, paid $1000 and paid it off straight away, second time I tried it locked my account. Be careful 😶

    • Same thing just happened to me. Will have to call support this morning to get this resolved. Hopefully straight forward issue..

      • Wow. Definitely not a beem

        • @Crowing was it straigjt forwsrd ?

          • @capslock janitor: Yeah - they requested the code on my CC which was used to pay the balance. Took them about 3-4 days to unlock.

      • +1

Was a reason given for the lock? Are you not allowed to use it like this?

        • No reason given - they requested the code on the transaction which I paid the balance off on. Account is still locked..

        • I made a couple of transactions the size of my account limit ($350) in the span of 15 minutes, and I got locked out. The call rep said they aren't allowed to know the reason, but I suspect there is something in place to stop large amounts/numbers of transactions going through all at once.

    • Most likely you did not have a past history with Zip, or Bpaying on Zip.

If you use 100% of your Credit limit, you sure would have to think of consequences of doing so. ??

To a lender or credit provider they dont see you owning $1000, rather you owning 100% of your credit limit. Especially on Bpays where money is taken out of Zip instantly and then paid out to Bpayer.

  • +1

Has anyone tried using Aust Post - Billpay - PayPal to pay for bills? I wonder if you're able to get credit card points this way given the transaction on the credit card would be PayPal and not Aust Post? The only issue is that PayPal isn't coming up as a payment option on the Aust post Billpay website..

  • +1

Thanks mate - it looks like only certain companies accept PayPal via post bill pay - worth checking before using other alternatives that charge a fee or Zippay

  • Anyone figured out a hack to pay ato bills yet? Thanks community!

    • there's a fee involved with all available options at the moment…..happy for someone to tell me otherwise…..

    • -3

Yes, you buy discounted Apple gift cards, then you pay ATO with the SECURE PAYMENT METHOD, using THEIR SECURE SERVER.

      win win hahaha

  • -1

Sorry, how can we pay ATO bill using apple gift cards?

    • +2

      They're joking.
It's a common scam tactic where someone pretends to be from the ATO and gets people to pay them in gift cards. So please don't try to pay bills with gift cards.

However, you can pay bills with discounted prepaid Mastercard/Visa cards like these https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/778169

      • Thanks so much - nearly fell for it!

  • +4

Looks like BPay option is available again on on beem but getting error when trying to pay using CC :(

    • +1

When they went live again last week the new T&C specifically excludes CCs from being used for BPay

  • +2

I am not sure if Beem realises they are absolutely useless now. who would use this app?

might have to try Zip once they remove the $2.50 fee - they only granted me a $500 limit

    • +1

The 2.50 fee recently got removed for Bpay on Zip. Comments above can probably confirm. I also got an email about it.

      • From end of July

    • No fee for Zip

  • Beem IT is dead oh well. I'll look into Zippay then

  • Merged from Bpay via Beem it

Following on from this post: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/775433

It looks like Bpay via Beem is on the app now. But does it still allow cc points?

    • +2

Last time i checked credit cards have been blocked for bpay payments.

    • Yep T&C specifically block credit cards for bpay now.
