Yes I bought Lifetime pass when on sale, mainly to support the devs since I don't use all the features.
Plex works really well for me - works from my NAS to a Nvidia Shield, Samsung TV, phones, pc's. All reliable and no hassles that I can think of.

    • same for me. Works well for all my family on all devices and the download feature on ios devices is great for travel, deleting watched and syncing new episodes of series when connected - keeps me well sorted when offline such as on planes

Whats wrong with free and private Jellyfin

  • Best subscription service I have ever paid for! I would have bought it even at full price had I known how good it is (had it on a monthly sub to try it out, couple of months later got a similar lifetime deal)
No idea about this Jellyfin, it seems to have mixed reviews

    • Sorry but what’s plex? Is it like Netflix?

      • yes…….and no

If you don't know, you don't need it. Basically it is for people who setup streaming to their devices from a NAS or server in their home.

        • ah yeah im not running any NAS or servers at home.
i lost all my IT knowledge back in uni days so i'm just a pleb when it comes to IT nowadays lol

I've had lifetime for a year or so, still very happy with it, simple install and setup on friends and families TVs.
Most people should be fine with the basic version.

The reason that I got premium was.
99% of content we consume is from Plex and YouTube. Haven't even got the antenna wired in and wanted to support the Devs mainly.

Mobile app is very reliable and allows my partner to watch shows in her lunch hour.
    HW transcoder and intro skipping.
More controls for the server since im on pretty limited FTTN connection at the moment.

Tracking what episode you are up to and for far through each episode with continue watching is great compared to the old DLNA server I had.

Never have to spend any effort matching episodes.

Downloading episodes in compressed format to watch offline on the plane, even from overseas wifi.

Love mine. Had it for 4 years now. I use it alot for live tv on the other room which doesnt have aerial access via hdhomerun. Also when overseas to watch local tv content.

    • 3+ years and counting, with a dozen active friends and family streaming daily from mine :) bought plexpass mainly for its support for hw transcoding and granular visibility on Tautulli.

    • How much did you pay for your hd home run and where did you get it from? I’ve been searching for one but they appear to be pretty scarce

      • Pretty sure it was a local seller on ebay brand new, years ago. Couldnt find it now when i searched!

  • I have this via Turkey, kinda wish I'd stuck with Emby or switched to JellyFin.

Wait so, people pay to watch TV shows?

    • +1

      That’s not what this is.

  • Slightly less useful now that Google want me to pay more for the storage I've been using.

    • You’ve been storing your movies/tv shows on google drive? That’s a no-no.

If it’s encrypted with rclone it’s a no-know. As in Google has now way of knowing.
