  • does this present the 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands as separate ssids? had so many issues with 2.4-only IoT devices and networks that combine both bands into a single ssid…

    • +1

Combined by default. Disable the smart connect toggle for individual 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

Going to assume band-steering gone amok.

Band-steering is a weird thing. The router can get neighbour reports from the client to know the signal strength they have to certain BSSID's, but none of the standards really allow for it to actually tell it to roam to another one.

You can ease the roaming experience with 11r fast roaming, but in the end you have to disassociate the client and assume it'll reconnect to the strongest one it reported back as seeing.

Although if they're 2.4-only devices and the access point is still booting them, that's pretty shitty of X manufacturer or vendor.

  • You can chose to have two seperate SSIDs or a single combined one. You just need to go into the router settings

  • Thanks OP. The 2.4GHz band on my Linksys EA9200 died today - no idea why. Factory reset didn't fix it. Bought this one - got the last one they had in stock.

  • Thoughts on this one (XD6) against XT8?
