I'm thinking of a dedicated PSVR2 machine in the garage since virtually all VR2 games are digital only.

    • This is a great idea, I was struggling to find a space where I would be able to play VR games in my townhouse. Do you actually need a TV/monitor to use the PS5 like this?

      • +1

For me, I don't need to turn on my TV. But I have heard of others needing to setup their VR units every time they play it.

  • is there a code or something to get that price its $762.95

    • Updated.

    • PWE22

OP was slack and did not include the code. Mod to the rescue.

Digital games only pretty much mean you are locked into PSN that is full price for new games

    • +7

Unless you develop a slight Turkish accent and become entitled to half price on all Aus PSN prices

      • How do you do this?

        • +2

Check out this thread and all the comments below it to find the most up to date working method. Little bit of stuffing around to be done before you can do it, but after that it is smooth sailing.

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/709692?

          • @XVX: i did it w wise ages ago , my ps plus turkiye probs expires in less than 4 months… if there is a new method that'll be so good to play all em ps4 games on my hopefully soon to be ps5 hardware

            • @AndrewMTG: Yeah you just have to change your Wise account to an NZ one using a fake NZ address for it to work now. Pretty sure I also used Windscribe VPN while accessing the store on my computer to purchase my PS+ sub. Was a bit more fiddly to get the plus sub compared to just buying games.

    • And Sony's stupid (profanity) system where you can't change the region of your account, ever, for any reason, but also can't pay using an Australian credit card if you are stuck with an overseas account.

  • +9

Without a comparable Game Pass equivalent I just don't see the value in this device like I would with a Series S, the disc drive is definitely the way to go with the PS5.

    • +3

PS Plus Extra is the equivalent minus Redfall.

      • +3

The catalogue leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to PS+Extra, plus you get a lot less launch titles.

        • +2

I stopped my GamePass Ultimate subscription recently. $16/month and Microsoft stopped the $1 for 1 month new user deal. Had GPU subscription for close to 3 years (due to cheap conversion from XB Live Gold way back). Not going to pay $192 for a year's subscription. Can join for a month if I am interested in a launch title. However, from past experience, with GamePass, launch titles can often feel like beta testing earlier on. Lost game progress multiple times with multiple launch titles.

Forza Horizon series have micro-transactions (expansion packs, quality of life improvements). Doesn't feel Ultimate at all.

          • +4

@netsurfer: If you’re keen the XBL > XGPU conversion still works. Just did it this month for approx $160/3yrs on an expired sub. More than $1 to convert though of course.

            • @nyteshaiid: Is the process buy cheap Live cards, then convert?

              • +1

@JarrodRebecchie: Yes, my original plan was the $1/month new user (or existing users with expired subscription) from time to time. It's just my luck that Microsoft has decided to cease offering that. In the past, every time there is a new first party exclusive, Microsoft runs that deal, but Microsoft now stopped. It's good that I've been busy so I didn't renew for Redfall, which apparently bombed pretty much all the review. It's really weird though, Sony decided to stop PS Plus Collection, Microsoft decided to stop the $1 special around the same time.

Sony's recent $3 for PS Plus Extra (1 month only) used up quite a lot of my gaming time. I think I am good till Starfield is released then I will decide whether to pick up a short term GPU.

              • +1

@JarrodRebecchie: Sorry, just realised I got sidetracked. Yes, get cheap live cards then convert. Apparently that's still possible according to nyteshaiid. Hopefully, he still reads comments in this deal and give us some info.

Another option is collect MS reward points through using Bing, XBox Series S|X console. Exchange the reward points for GamePass (or GamePass Ultimate) is generally the most cost effective (compared to exchanging for JB HiFi gift cards).

            • @nyteshaiid: How do you get you get cheap XBL nowadays? The JB deals years ago (~$53/year for those clearance ones) are long gone. Convert, I was hoping the $3 for 7 days GPU vouchers are still available.

I know long term GPU subscriptions are handy. However, my main issue is I don't have time to play games every month and I am hoping Microsoft will make an exception and continue the $1 for 2 months Christmas to New Year special deal. $160 for the last 3 years, I guess entertainment wise, it was fine, but now, I am left with small number of games which I actually own.

  • +1

    RRP is $739.00
Not sure why gamesmen keep jacking the price to $763.00 cover their "free shipping"

  • +8

Pay 30 more and get the disc one plus 65 for a controller

  • +9

    My two cents:

    I've owned a PS5 digital edition for 3 months.

It's been excellent. Paired it with a turkey PSN Plus account, and have purchased a few games from the Turkey PSN store.

However, there's been a few new AAA titles that I would love to play, but are just too expensive. I wish I had the flexibility of having the disc edition to purchase second hand games, and I'm contemplating purchasing a disc console and selling the digital.

If you aren't set on purchasing titles upon release, the digital edition will work perfectly. But if you need to get your hands on games upon release (or second hand within a few weeks of release) disc is for you.

    • +3

      Are the games in Turkish?

      • -2

        😂😂😂

        • +6

Forgive me for asking stupid questions, but I have no idea, sometimes they region lock the languages on the games.

          • +1

@KARMAAA: happen to russia once, ubisoft did me dirty, but refunded in the end.

Not sure if anyone has had a look lately.. a tonne of PS5's.. both disc and digital are like $400 or less on gumtree/marketplace…. Not sure why but yeah, could be worth the punt for a $400 PS5 disc edition

    • +5

      All scams.

      • -4

There's hundreds of them though.. A friend bough a digital PS5 for $290 from marketplace a month ago, no complaints from him..

I mean just look at a random search on my FB

        • well people selling legit shit also fall for those scams

basically they see their shit selling for shit and figure they need to compete with the ridiculous prices

          happens all the time

          shieeet

      • +2

Facebook really needs a way to filter scams

        • +4

Just check the filter, "Fully legit deals only".

    • +3

Usually they are scams. They ask for a deposit or require shipping.

    • +5

All scams - they say they are in Shepparton and can ship. I’ve been having fun saying I can pick it up and they ghost me lol

    • +2

I'm on the gold coast and see a lot too, and i can assure you they are 95% SCAMS.

  • +7

With the current price of disc editions, they should just discontinue this model.

    • +5

But then they can't lock you into buying directly from them and not giving it to your friends when you're done/reselling

  • This is even cheaper than you can get it for in the US with one controller ($US399, AU$612) before you even add US state tax…

  • If only this was disc condition. And black. And smaller.

    • +1

      And free.

  • +5

Don't get this one guys. The digital games are much more expensive than disc games, and they are locked to your account.

  • +2

Can we hack this to run himebrew?
Asking for a friend (named Nin10du)

    • No jailbreak yet for PS5

  • With PS5 disk gong for low $600's new . The $400 scam price is the new correct price 2nd hand .

  • -1

PS5 Pro coming soon, maybe next year. Will have twice the graphics power of the PS5 and comes with a cup warmer. Only $1,000+.

    • +1

PS5 Pro is youTube clickbait, which GPU equivalent would Sony use? RX 6700 XT? What is Naughty Dog doing? The Last of Us Part 2 Factions? PS5 is out 2.5 years now and Naughty Dog is STILL working on an expansion based on a game made for PS4 Pro initially? Sony made the right decision to buy Insomniac Games.

If PS5 Pro is released next year, it will be the first time Naughty Dog failed to even release a true / proper title for a new console for the first time, likewise for Sucker Punch.

Digital was the way to go for us. The kids play their few favourites (No Mans Sky, Subnautica, Minecraft, racing games) and I’m working through all the PS+ games when I get time (Horizon, GoW, Tomb Raider, TLoU, Spider-Man MM…). Disc edition would make sense if you’re trying to get deals on new releases but I much prefer to save shelf space and wait for PS store deals. Only new release I’m excited for at the moment is Company of Heroes 3 but that sounds like it will be worth waiting for patches anyway.

  • +1

Digital games are a rip-off. They're more expensive than the actual physical games on release. Expect to pay $110 for a game that would otherwise be $90.

    • I just buy mine off my US account.

    • +1

Which is baffling because Sony doesn't need to pay retailers a cut off the game. Maybe they justify it as not undercutting retailers who had helped support Playstation for nearly 30 years now. Some retailers might protest by not stocking Playstation console and games which would hurt Sony, it would also hurt publishers if Sony went into a price war with physical retailers, lowering everyone's cut of each game sold.

    • With people sharing Netflix, Apple (iOS) accounts etc… I am sure there are ways to come up with a cost effective way to deal with it. I know some people who shared iOS accounts. I remember they get a lot more apps and games than me.
