    one review says

Like Hori Split Pad Pro, it's a basic gaming set, with no vibration, no gyroscope or NFC.
I give it 3 points for the following reasons:
1- The plastic used for the controls feels low quality.
2- The +, -, L1 and R1 buttons feel weird when pressed, even cheaper than the plastic one on the control.

    • My original Split Pad feels kinda cheap too. But works well.

    • Why would you give up HD rumble 🥲

      • +2

I feel rumble is so overrated. I'd give it up (and do) for the Hori split pad for a proper D-pad and better, larger analog sticks.

      • It's loud. If in a quite environment U will get looks :p

    • are there any aftermarket controllers with gryo?

      • search for nyxi joycons

though I'm not sure how good their implementations are

        • i think i remember seeing those. i thought they didnt work with games like mario party

  • +1

i have a set of these and i think they're great. not too clunky, pretty much the perfect size. only problem is no gyro so aiming in zelda you gotta use the right stick only but thankfully the right stick is decent to use compared to a joycon.

    • ?? they are clunky as and the buttons feel so cheap and you have to press hard for them since they stick out to much they are massive in hands too.
      what i think though.

      • I disagree. They feel much nicer than the joycon. It's pretty subjective.

Press hard though? I don't get that at all..

    • The OG joycons have insanely loud, clicky buttons and triggers. How does the loudness of the buttons on this compare?

      • they aren't clicky buttons, they are similar in feel to the pro controller buttons

here we go again Hori to the rescue :D happened with the ps vita now the switch :D

  • good deal. i paid 100 for the gengar variant

I saw similar priced ones from Amazon Japan via Amazon AU earlier in the week, but with Pikachu print :)
    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0BCX3D9CT

Although not available as a seller at the moment. For some reason lots of the Amazon Japan things disappeared - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13815839/redir

edit: I mean cheaper, did a google cheche search (snapshot of the page as it appeared on 29 May 2023 22:42:42 GMT) and was $54.07 for Pikachu or Gengar, so hopefully Amazon Japan comes back as seller for it.

    • +2

I just managed to nab the Gengar set for $54.07 from Amazon Japan, took a few refreshes but it seems to just work at random?

      • Oh I can see it again too! :)
        Nice!

        • Was yours showing as $54?
Mine is showing at $104.64, and I can see "More Buying Choices $54.07(2 new offers)", but when I click on that none of those listings show/are available

          • @sakurakiks: Yes and is still showing at the moment. Maybe was unavailable again briefly, but is available again now from Amazon Japan seller.

            • +1

@blah-blah: Thank you, was very fiddly getting to the Japan storefront and getting the item to load at $54, but your forum link really helped and finally got it and ordered!

Also the split pro was 54.99 at Amazon JP

A little misleading, all the photos show Switch console, they should include a couple of photos showing just the control pads. Wouldn't be surprised some may think it's the complete unit.

    • +6

If anyone thinks they can get a Switch for less than $100, tell them they're dreaming.

When it comes to portable play, a pro controller and a clip/mount for the console works better imo. Still got rumble, gyro, NFC. I'm using a replica of a Pro, so it all worked out to under $60. If you already have a Pro, getting a $14 clip instead of a set of controllers makes more sense to me.

    • Mind to share which pro replica you got? I'm looking for one

      • Possibly something from 8bitdo. I've got the ultimate and pro2. I prefer the pro2 for PC emulation as the gyro controls don't seem to work on the ultimate.

        • +1

I've got the 8bitdo ultimate Bluetooth controller, gyro works fine for me.

For playing on the go, I have the mobapad m6 joycons since they have gyro, rumble and mechanical keys. I do have the nyxi joycons as well and they're useful if I'm going to work since they work wirelessly and can be converted into a pro-ish controller and have gyro and rumble, but I find the mechanical buttons on the mobapad are nicer feeling.

I can't really justify the hori since there's no gyro or rumble.

The controller I disliked the most was the powera fusion pro wireless controller for switch. What kind of company designs a $200AU controller with replaceable faceplates but the official OEM faceplates that come with the controller block the full range of travel on the joysticks. 8bitdo ultimate Bluetooth controller was so much cheaper and comes with a dock and is more versatile for my use.

          • @DangerNoodle: Had another look and got it working in cemu. Thanks for motivating me to look. Had to switch to bluetooth instead of 2.4ghz connection. Surprised I didn't get it working before.

I have tried the joy-con replacements but just found too many compromises or it costs a bomb. I did settle for a grip case though I don't play the switch much these days.

        https://shop.tegal.com.au/collections/gaming-accessories/pro…

Unbranded, but N-Switch on the packaging. Got it for $44.95 on sale with free postage, lots on ebay for similar price, on aliexpress for cheaper. If you wanted to put a Pro in everyones hand for multiplayer, the overall feel is identical with fantastic battery life. One flaw is the rumble isn't very nuanced and upon checking, it doesn't actually have NFC. Very good for the price, usually use a 8Bitdo Pro otherwise.

  • I just bought one (on Amazon UK via AU). Gahhhhhh

    • You can still cancel is not shipped.

  • +3

Paid 120 for the Gengar version on release from JB hifi.

    Some key positives for me:
-These are considerably more comfortable than joycons for long term use. I have large hands and play Zelda for 3 or 4 hours in one sitting with no issues.
-Joysticks have a great feel and tension to them. Love the larger grip pads on top of the sticks.
-Buttons are quiet and not clicky. Great for playing at night time and not waking up the wife.
-The rear programmable buttons are a great replacement for clicking in the joysticks. I don't click in the joysticks any more. I've replaced the click with a rear button on the back.

I was a little shocked by how light and cheap these felt. But after a number of months they still hold up.

    • Yeah I've had a set for years. They're still like new.

  • +1

Good alternative. Light weight and can remap/turbo other buttons.

However, it does not have vibration and gyroscope and it cannot be used wirelessly (only attached).

Man these ‘handhelds’ are really pushing it. So big and ugly but I guess where we’re headed. Remember back when mobile phones actually used to fit in your pocket?

    • Would you rather a smaller handheld that has bad ergonomics and is painful to play for longer than fifteen minutes or has a tiny screen?

I have aftermarket joycons on my switch, makes it quite comfortable to play for hours while I'm on the go, works well since the switch OLED has good battery life. Sure it's big, but I'd rather a big screen than a tiny screen.

nah jsut want a portable thats actually portable

        • It is portable.

What you want is pocketable which is not the same thing.

  • Is there a jap link?

  • Just arrived. Feels so premium! Great size!
