Do you have to wear a suit for this restaurant.

    • +4

Im fairly certain even if go in wearing an oodie and flip flops they would let you in.

    • +1

      birthday suit, do it.

  • +1

Does anyone know what are promotional products you can use the $20vouchers for?

    • +5

My understanding so far is that you buy $20 meal, get $20 voucher no minimum spend on anything at ikea. No?

      • +4

That's what I'm hoping for. $20 on lunch and then use the voucher to buy some batteries, bowls, and coat hangers

        • -1

customers must scan their voucher before completing their purchase of Promotional
          Products during the Promotion Period.

Likely not. Only on promotional products. So no discount on all. Only selected products.

            • @HomeAlone: It does not mention “cannot PAY using GC”, right? So potentially can stack with this and you’ll profit/save even more (ી(΄◞ิ౪◟ิ‵)ʃ)

Guess who’s going to IKEA to stock up on more LADDAs…

              • +1

@noelhoi: Me. Been waiting for a chance to grabe my first set of Laddas since they don't deliver these batteries

              • @noelhoi: I was thinking that too, but the gift card is not allowed to be used at the restaurant.
                So, computer says…..Nooooo.

                • @shoppe: I have used gift card at the restaurant multiple times.
                  Has the system changed?

                  • +1

@tomatosauce: I bought the $100 Ikea gift card from Coles. Conditions on back are:

"IKEA Gift cards can be used as full or partial payment on purchases in IKEA stores, excluding the IKEA Restaurant, Bistro and Swedish Food Market…………………….."

                    • @shoppe: Same as @tomatosauce, when did they add that clause? If it’s recently, have you actually experienced first hand that the system at the restaurant won’t let you?

                      • @noelhoi: Nope, I haven't tried it …. yet!

                        • @shoppe: Conditions say, cannot be used at restaurant, but …..

computer says YES! (it can be used at restaurant)

                          • @shoppe: INFINITE MONEY GLITCH?

                            • +1

@CodeXD: Lol, if only. I was talking about the Ikea card that I bought from Coles, and NOT the voucher they give you when eating there.

Is there a maximum amount? Can I spend $500,000 on food and get a $500,000 voucher?

    • +27

Can you test it out and report back to us?

      • +4

Yeah. I got lazy $500k sitting here burning a hole in bank account and suddenly got a hankering for ikea meatballs. 🤣

        • mmm meatballs with some sweet sweet cranberry sauce

it's been a while, but the calling is strong now.

    • There must be a catch

    • +7

I used to do that. I needed to buy a $250 shelf and invited 8 friends to join me for dinner. Each of them were given a budget of ~$30 to eat which was a lot for IKEA food. We also grabbed bottled drinks and chocolate to make up the $250.

      • +6

I was thinking the same thing - but invite a bunch of strangers or homeless off the street for a free feed

        • Will you pick them up

          • @Bii: I don't have or want any ikea

    • -1

I think you can, but then you will end up with with 25,000 vouchers that you can only use one voucher per transaction. So you got to do 25,000 transactions by buying stuffs that are not over $20 if you want to take full advantage of it. Good luck…

      • +2

@wildstone: Nope, not if the $500,000 is in one sitting:

        Terms & Conditions
        5) Discount Voucher: Each $20 spent on a Qualifying Purchase, customers will receive the equivalent amount on a Discount Voucher. The voucher will be printed on the receipt in multiples of $20. […]
For example, if a customer makes a $44 Qualifying Purchase, the customer will receive a $40 Discount Voucher. If the customer makes a $108 Qualifying Purchase, the customer will receive a $100 Discount Voucher.

        • +1

Oh! Has anybody that made a >$40 or more purchase at the restaurant able to confirm this?

          • @wildstone: Good question! I was thinking the same thing. Just because that's what the T&Cs say doesn't always mean it's true.

            • @bettina44: Thank you! How much did you spend on restaurant and how much was in the voucher code?

    • Is someone throwing a party for OzBargainers?

The logistics of an IKEA kitchen being able to cook $500,000 worth of meals would be amazing. The kitchen cooks would be constantly baking all day long. Thats assuming they had enough stock in their refrigeration rooms.

    • Yep…….as long as you meet the conditions. That is, you must "eat your discount" in the restaurant on the same day. You are not allowed take-away. And if you try to throw any of it away, then you haven't met the conditions (at least for the proportion that you waste)!!

  • +9

I recently ate at IKEA for the first time in many years - it was distinctly underwhelming, and not that cheap.

    I don't get the attraction.

    • +6

I have eaten there a few time. Its food. Its edible but nothing to write home about.

    • +6

I last went about 10 years ago and it was awful, like hospital food..

      • +3

Perhaps QLD Health could subcontract Catering to Ikea, like they subcontract Recovery to Seaworld Resort.

      • My wife was in the mater hospital in Brisbane for a week and the food was amazing! She didn't want to come home.

        • -1

Says a lot about your cooking then?✌️

I have had hospital food. Its a toss up with airline food which is worst.

          • @xoom:

Says a lot about your cooking then?✌️

Ha ha, I saw it for myself. They had chefs cooking stuff fresh, gourmet burgers and everything. It was none of that reheated frozen slop you normally get served.

            • +2

@pufffdragon: I must have gone to the wrong hospital as i was served the blandest slop anyone could conjure up.

              • +2

@xoom: get pregnant, deliver at mater, report back on gourmet fare status.

                pretty please.

    • +2

I enjoy the style. Canteen food restaurant reminds me of Asia and then the food reminds me of Nord in Austria. So it's like I've visited hk and Austria in 1 day. Bit of nostalgia as well I guess.

      • It's certainly popular, the day I ate there the restaurant was packed.

    • Agreed

  • +4

I have not seen "eat your discount" promotion for many years.

  • how many meatballs do you have to get for this voucher?

    • +4

Two plates of 8 meatballs at $10.50 each. So a total cost of $21 and you will receive a $20 voucher.

      • That's gone up to $10.50! Go damn..

  • Does this include the juices or hot drinks at the bistro?
    " Participating Store excluding:
    (a) all drinks and packaged food products (e.g. chocolates or biscuits);"

  • +1

Can I eat there and then use the voucher to buy frozen meatballs? Or is that excluded?

    • +4

      Excludes:

      (d) Food products from Swedish Restaurant, Swedish Café, Bistro or Swedish Food Market

    • +1

      haha was my first thought

      gotta love those meatballs

  • It looks like you have to both spend the $20 on non-packaged food and use the $20 voucher during the promotion period. I thought you could just keep the $20 voucher for future use.

That gives you only 4 days to use it.

  • This will work during dinner time right? Reason I ask because it say on BREAKFAST

"Qualifying Purchase: $20 or more on Breakfast, Mains, Wraps, Salads, Kids or “Something Sweet” menus (not including any other discounts or promotions) from the Swedish Restaurant of each Participating Store excluding"

    • I'd think most regular items will be ok. I'd imagine the discounts that are excluded would be 2 for 1 vouchers and free birthday cakes (ie non standard items not on the menu)

  • +1

“ One voucher per transaction: Customers can only use one Discount Voucher for each transaction.”
So that’s maximum $20 redeemed each purchase? Or does the multiples counts as one?

    • +2

      See point 5 above:

Discount Voucher: Each $20 spent on a Qualifying Purchase, customers will receive the equivalent amount on a Discount Voucher. The voucher will be printed on the receipt in multiples of $20. Each Discount Voucher is a single use voucher valid to purchase Promotional Products during the Promotion Period.

For example, if a customer makes a $44 Qualifying Purchase, the customer will receive a $40 Discount Voucher. If the customer makes a $108 Qualifying Purchase, the customer will receive a $100 Discount Voucher.

    • It means you can only use one $20 voucher for each transaction when you redeem. If you buy a $60 table, you can only use one $20 voucher instead of 3 x $20 vouchers to offset the price.

      • +6

@wildstone: Nope. It means you can only redeem one voucher for each transaction, but the voucher can be any multiple of $20. So if you want to buy a $60 table for free, you need spend at least $60 in one sitting at the restaurant to get a voucher of at least $60.

  • So is this saying free food but get your money back in vouchers instead of cash

    • +2

won't be free food for the many many suckers who dine in, get vouchers, then forget to use the vouchers (or can't find anything they want) within the next 4 days.

      But hey, meatballs amirite

      • Did this today. Voucher expires tomorrow lol

  • Had a Swedish meat balls, and a salmon salad, and a double mattress protector for 22.50 and still hungry.

    • +4

You'd think the double mattress protector would have filled you up.

      • Nah. It's one of the thinnest around.

  • +1

just got my $20 voucher, bought meat balls and 3x pastries = $21 (The lady told me bottled drinks arent included)

Bought a pot and used the $20 voucher straight away :)

    • @cateyneow:

      bottled drinks arent included

      That's right. From:

      Terms & Conditions

      4) Qualifying Purchase: […] excluding:
      (a) all drinks and packaged food products (e.g. chocolates or biscuits);

  • Huh, that why my massive meal last time was only $8

  • Waiting for their EOFY sale. Any idea if it’s happening soon?

  • Swedish Café

What is this? I know what the restaurant, the bistro and the market is, but what is the cafe?

Is that just what they call the coffee machines at the restaurant?

    • Maybe. What and where is the bistro?

      • +2

The bistro is where they sell the hotdogs.

        • Ah I see. Thanks :)

  • +2

so can we use ikea gift cards to purchase food to get vouchers?

  • Could stack with the quarterly $10 off $50 spend at the cafe? Ie $40 spend for $50 worth of cafe food and $40 ikea voucher.

    • @fedex11: Nope:

      Terms & Conditions
      4) Qualifying Purchase: $20 or more on Breakfast, Mains, Wraps, Salads, Kids or “Something Sweet” menus (not including any other discounts or promotions)…

      • I think he meant when getting the furniture. Can we stack $10 of $50 with a $40 voucher if getting a $60 table?

        • Tried. Cannot. One or the other

  • -1

Is this dine-in only or can takeaway too?

    • Nobody can stop you from bringing in an esky and takeaway boxes, lol

  • +1

    https://www.ikea.com/au/en/stores/restaurant/ikea-mains-wrap…

The meals all look so unappetizing, and what a rip off!! They used to be cheap.. now can find much better quality and value from smaller businesses or the daily specials at the pub.

    • Their breakfast range is much better value, 5.5 a plate.

      https://www.ikea.com/au/en/stores/restaurant/ikea-breakfast-…

But you then really need to stuff yourself to get to multiples of 20.

      • "But you then really need to stuff yourself to get to multiples of 20."
        And that's a bad thing?
        .

        • I had 60 worth of regular menu to get a 59 dollar rug, don't think I could do it with 60 worth of breakfast menu…….

  • +4

Can we use IKEA gift card to pay in the restaurant and still get this voucher?

    • +1

I used my gift card at the restaurant today and received the voucher without any issues.
Apparently some gift cards cannot be used at the restaurant though.

      • +1

        Thanks for confirming legend!

      • I suspect you are thinking of the old IKEA refund cards, where they wrote on the back of the gift card that it cannot be redeemed at the IKEA Restaurant, Bistro or Swedish Food Market.

The newer cardboard IKEA refund cards do not mention anything about exclusions on the back of the gift card, and if you look at the most recent version of the IKEA cards terms and conditions, neither the IKEA gift card nor the IKEA refund card lists the Restaurant as an exclusion, and I have used IKEA refund cards (at least the cardboard ones with a PIN) at the Restaurant without any issues.

    • Where did you buy the gift card?

      • I bought my gift cards from Coles or Woolworths (can’t remember) long time ago.
My cards expire January 2024, so they were purchased about 2.5 years ago, I believe.
Newer cards may have some additional clauses like you mentioned above.

        • Well, what do you know… I used my card that I bought recently from Coles at the restaurant, today. Conditions say you cannot but it works, anyway.

  • +1

The voucher is seen as a payment method? Ie. If buying a 100 dollar chair the tax invoice will still show $100 for tax deduction purposes? :)

    • No, it's a discount off the original price.

  • Stackable with the $10 welcome voucher?

  • $2.5 Coffee Refilled is not bad. May not be counted tho
