Linea Micra Coffee Machine + Mahlkonig X54 Grinder + 12m ST.Ali Orthodox Blend Coffee Subscription $5999 Delivered @ La Marzocco

3710

This is not a deal for everyone and I may be negged into the penalty box for even sharing it.

But for those who want an LM machine - this is an insane offer, the best I’ve ever seen on an LM.

I’ve got the micra myself and would say witho it a doubt there is no benefit that the mini would have over it for the home user. It’s an amazing machine - having come from a rocket Mozzafiato Tipo V and an ECM Elektronika and also a breville barista express.

No it’s not for everyone - and no it’s not cheap. But if you wanted this as an endgame machine for no other reason other than you want an LM, then this is the deal for you.

FYI: Also comes with an accessories kit which is a nice touch - I believe it's the $379 one on the website.

      • He has since moved his coffee setup to another area in the house, he was on about there are more options now and he couldn't bothered to setup a 15A circuit again. That machine is not in use, he's on to a heat exchanger machine.

  • Yes this is a good deal.
No this won't make better coffee than a BDB.

and NO I WILL NEVER FORGIVE ST ALI FOR PURCHASING DRAMANTI AND RUINING IT!

No this won't make better coffee than a BDB.

      I'm sorry what?

      • +1

You can pressure profile (slayer mod) your BDB for free. Easy mod - I did it. Also, BDB offers preinfusion without being plumbed in. These offer advantages to espresso taste over the Micra. However, a new mod can be done to pressure profile on the Micra… and if it's plumbed in you can preinfuse.

Hard to compete with BDB for Aus pricing (sub <~$1k aud). Micra does look amazing though!

        • So what advantages does this Micra have? Like who should buy this Micra?

        • Good you have brought this up, I was wondering about pre-infusion vs pre-brewing. From what I have read pre-infusion relies on line pressure (a much lower pressure) hence requires a plumbed machine, pre-brewing relies on pump pressure (albeit at a lower setting) to pre-soak the puck.

If they can tune the pump to delivery similar output like a plumbed machine, isn't the outcome the same? A $6K machine cannot do that? Or is it just a design principle? The option is there, so if you are serious about it just plumb it?

  • I ordered the blue, and have been informed that the next shipment is due mid July.

I'm not fussed, since I will rarely be home for the rest of June

    machine delivered !!!

Will try it out on the weekend

    • Fantastic! Enjoy it - the satisfaction of having my endgame machine brings a closure no other machine has.

      • Endgame is the decent… Just refusing to pay $1000 for shipping and import taxes…looking for a better solution to get it or waiting for a deal similar to this…

        • I also refused to pay the shipping on the Decent and ended up with the Sanremo You instead, not expecting the Micra to ever get a discount. Livid to see this come up.

I'll hand in my OZB membership card…

          • @nubix: Sanremo You is an awesome bit of kit. Don't be angry!

        • Name checks out! Yeah shipping and import taxes hurt but if it was sold here I feel it would cost just as much as those costs added! Which Decent? It looks like a tesla of a coffee machine!

          • @JL1: DE1 XXL because of steam power and faster startup. I'm waiting for next iteration with water storage cover, shipping price just recently reduced slightly, import taxes drop and maybe one day the stars align like it did for this deal…thanks OP…

    • did you receive a code or information on how to subscribe to st ali coffee subscription? I didn't receive any info on that.

      • +1

They will work with St. Ali in July re subs.

  • Anyone having issue with TNT express on the delivery?

I got my grinder and accessory kit.

My coffee machine is still sitting at their depot in Melbourne… Destination is Perth

Apparently, TNT is quite useless and this is common….

    • +1

Most likely, the staff will inspect and QA the machine again in the Melbourne HQ. As these machines are built and go through their own QA in Florence (Italy). As these machines sit on the shelf in Melbourne until ready for dispatch, the technicians will inspect and service (i.e. remove any scale build up) the machine.

      • +1

Can confirm this is the case

I ordered a machine and got an email this morning saying that the machine was being bench tested in Melbourne before shipping to Sydney next week

    • I have received my grinder and accessory kit as well. But no signs of the coffee machine.

Did you receive your coffee machine. If so, after how many days since you have received the grinder.

    bought one

  • Finally got around to set it up tonight and prepped it for tomorrow's first shot.

I'm a little p*ssed off about the short distance from drip tray to portafilter. I already knew it's a problem but didn't know it's that bad. I cannot fit my timemore scale in and not even my smallest neoweigh scale, the neoweigh is tiny. I only use 170ml small tulip glasses and they hit the portafilter when on the scale, same 220ml duralex glasses. Unusable. Only really works with my 130ml cortado glasses and they just barely. What where they thinking? Very disappointing.
I'm not going to pull my shorts into small transfer cups to move to a bigger cup at the end, that's silly and too much wasteage of the good stuff and cools down to quickly. I don't like that idea.

No shot timer on machine :( need to use your app.

App is laggy and very limited in functionality. Drops every so often. I could live with that but the above is really disappointing. I know I should have just skipped this machine and bought the decent instead which is what i really wanted.

Adding water into the water tank is clunky as you can't fully pull it out as the hose is attached from the tank to the machine. Clunky.

The only thing I like so far how nice and quiet it is.

Let's see how tomorrow's shot goes (without a scale)

    • Are you splitting your shot in two? If not why not turn the portafilter into a naked one and then you should have enough space if what I’ve read is correct

I’ve heard the gap when using a naked portafilter is 11.4cm or so. Acme tulip cup is 7.5cm and my lunar scale is 1.5cm, so a total of 9cm which should leave a bit of room for you

      • Yes my standard drinks last six month on my trusty bday are 2 * 170 ml cups.

        So two acme tulips 170ml each . Doesn't work with scale. Timemore is Dimensions (W) x (D) x (H): 130 × 152 × 26 mm.
The neoweigh is also much smaller.

Single Acme 280ml also doesn't fit. Even very tight on naked porta.
Almost makes me want to return it.

All this is no problem on my BDB 1/6 of the price…. There is no need to keep that space so tight.

        Don't Italians use scales?

      • I ordered the felicita arc which is also 15mm high. Can't find any thinner scale out there.
No drip tray mods available also.
The la Marzocco Portalfilter has some weird metal bit sticking out if you take the plastic spout off which doesn't help with clearance even if you now have a naked pf.
I might have to order another previous nodel naked la Marzocco pf.
But really my standard routine is splitting the shot. This machine makes it very difficult if you want to use a scale.

  • My Mini is apparently arriving in Perth on Tuesday, fingers crossed. Just in time too, the BDB just ticked over to 10,000 shots.

So I had my first shot this morning. Turned out ok even without a scale. Wife loved it. For me I'll give it a rating of only OK. Certainly not 5 * better than the BDB.

More complaints, app doesn't have enough details eg. shot time history. Also when you finish the brew time and turn the paddle to stop it you can't see anymore how long your shot took as it goes to zero immediately. All that can be fixed though in software updates.

The water spout is too close to the left so when you try and wash out the portafilter then water drips everywhere. not a clever design. Portafilter to drip tray clearance, missing shot timer, water spout location, water tank refill process and don't get me started on the high tech portafiler spout which is plastic. Overall don't bother as the la marzocco linea micra is just a hype and has lots of gaps. Disappointing. Maybe v2 will be better. There are better machines out there for less money.

Steam power is amazing. Nice and quiet machine but that's just about it.

    Wasted $6k… Decent here I come…

    • +3

I'll take it off your hands for $5k

    • @MrBillions I don't disagree with your criticisms, but I think most of them can be overcome fairly easily?

First, get new cups? The ACME Evolution 190ml is only 57mm high, almost a full 2cm shorter than the tulips? I'm sure someone makes even shorter?

No shot timer does feel like a massive oversight on a $6k machine, but there are some cool mods to add one if it's that much of an issue? There's a great looking one for the Mini that replaces the brew paddle, hopefully they make one for the Micra soon!

The hot water spout is too close to the edge to use it to wrince the portrafilter, so I just use the shower from the group head instead.

Filling the water tank is clunky, no escaping that! I'm tempted to get a plumber to look at whether it would be practical for me to plumb it in…

Anyway, it def feels more clunky than my old BDB at the moment, but I'm pretty sure I was fairly clunky on that when I started using it 4 years ago! Hoping I will get into a routine and it will start feeling as easy as the BDB in a month or 2.

In good news, I managed to get $900 for my BDB and Eureka Specialita, so recouped 1/6 of the outlay :)

      • +2

Hoping you're right and maybe need some more time…just had a wonderful routine going with my BDB and all the tools and accessories aligned.

I've seen the shot timer Mod and would love it but worried about the warranty and also don't agree that at this price I need to spend more for basics.

It just feels not fully thought out. Overall i'm still dissatisfied with the number things that should have been rounded out before it hits the public. All seem like easy fixes and should never have been missed by a company like LM.

However so far I have ok shots each time even if I think i screwed up but maybe it is the st Ali coffee that was in the box which may be forgiving. Not sure. Will try some other more interesting beans on the weekend and see how I go. For my now I'm keeping the BDB on the bench next to my lm.

      • "The hot water spout is too close to the edge to use it to wrince the portrafilter, so I just use the shower from the group head instead."

You get a short pre infusion "rinse" not enough to clean properly.

Also my shot was ruined this morning as steam ran out half way during milk steaming….far out Soo many flaws for this over hyped machine…

        • +1

Just return it if you can and spend the extra on the Mini.
The mini is the benchmark machine, the micra was meant to be more accessible.
Or save money and buy an e61 (Synchronika by ECM being the cream of the crop)

          • @maverickjohn: nope, straight to decent de1 xxl

            • +1

@MrBillions: Decent seems like a good idea, but your technical skill will rely on learning a little about programming a machine.
As long as you are ok with watching you tube vids and learning how to program profiles its great. Im much happier with my archaic e61. 'It just works"

      • Acme 25% sitewide at the moment https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/784292

  • Great bargain.
Was looking at this but priced myself out of it and got a Lelit Bianca v3 instead. !!!

    • +1

      Good move I reckon!

  • -1

I prefer Acqua Di Rubinetto but to each their own.

  • Thanks everyone for your honest user reviews, I think I’ll stick with my GS3 for now. (Who needs bench space anyway)

  • how does it compare to the gaggia classic?

    • Two very different machines in very different price points and tiers. On pure performance, specs, build quality alone, the LM wins hands down by a mile. But you’re also paying 5 grand more.

  • deal expired… meanwhile i found the magic combo to address some of the short comings… acaia lunar + acme 150ml flat white cups…works!

  • +1

Mine arrived today. Havent pulled a coffee yet, but made a hot choc for my daughter.

Steam pressure is amazingly strong. Way way stronger than the BDB. Gotta get used to it!
