Linea Micra Coffee Machine + Mahlkonig X54 Grinder + 12m ST.Ali Orthodox Blend Coffee Subscription $5999 Delivered @ La Marzocco

3710

This is not a deal for everyone and I may be negged into the penalty box for even sharing it.

But for those who want an LM machine - this is an insane offer, the best I’ve ever seen on an LM.

I’ve got the micra myself and would say witho it a doubt there is no benefit that the mini would have over it for the home user. It’s an amazing machine - having come from a rocket Mozzafiato Tipo V and an ECM Elektronika and also a breville barista express.

No it’s not for everyone - and no it’s not cheap. But if you wanted this as an endgame machine for no other reason other than you want an LM, then this is the deal for you.

FYI: Also comes with an accessories kit which is a nice touch - I believe it's the $379 one on the website.

    • On this instance they have used the LM in two different ways. LM = la marzocco,
But also means linea Micra or previous linea mini

  • Gonna get myself a gs3

I've got one in my kitchen.

I’ve got a GS3 and I’m thinking of down sizing to the Micra, it’s amazing but takes up a lot of bench space

      • +3

I look forward to seeing it on the classifieds.

  • thanks - Would definitely be tempted if I didn't have ecm synchronika and eureka atom

    Rich peoples bargain.

  • I read that as LM Mini and got very excited! Still a good deal for those after a Micra.

FYI they have the same package for the Mini, but it's $8,499.

    • Any reason why a home barista should consider a Mini over a Micra? The more compact package and quicker start up time would be big pluses for the Micra (in addition to saving $2.5k). Steam power appears to be more or less the same?

      • Probably not any real reason for home use.

The Mini would be better in a semi-commercial setting such as a coffee truck/cart setup where you would need to pump out coffee after coffee as the steam boiler is larger for better milk steaming performance.

    • Thanks for pointing out the Mini deal, just purchased :D

  • Bianca v3 better value?

    • -1

Feature wise, absolutely! But its ugly and takes forever to heat up.

      • +1

All e61 takes at least 30mins to heat up, if you want really quick heat up, get a BDB which is ready to brew in 5 mins.

        • +1

The Micra supposedly heats up in 5min. I haven't looked into it to understand how it works. As you said, these types of machines normally take around 30min to heat up.

@nubix. Looks are subjective. I like the look of Bianca. I don't think the 30min is too much of an issue seeing as that's what we have come to expect. I assume most people have a timer setup to have the machine ready on time.

          • @logistics: I love the look of the Bianca lol.

Yep I’d use it with a timer too.

          • @logistics: Yeah a cheap smart timer/switch does the job.

        • The Bianca heats up and is ready to make coffee in 15 minutes. They use a different method of heating the water in the grouphead to a higher temperature, and then dropping it back down again to speed up the process.

Love the look of the Bianca personally. Not to mention you can remove the water tank altogether making it tiny overall. Brilliant machine.

          • @Jebus: Is that yours? Looks awesome.

I have the Anna 2 and I can’t wait to get the Bianca (one day).

            • +1

@bugsbunny: Sure is! Anna's are great machines as well. I upgraded from the BDB about a year ago and haven't looked back since.

  • Is this considered an upgrade from Rocket R Cinquantotto?

    • Replying to myself. Rocket is way ahead. Shot timer, pid, e61 and more.

Save up and buy rocket instead. Or profitec, they are bullet proof

      • +2

0.58 Litre boiler vs 1.6 litre, if that means anything to you. e61 is a con to me personally even though i have an e61 at home, way too complex for maintenance and takes too long to heat up.

        • I just end up sending mine for a service every 3-4 years around 200$, other than that it'll last a lifetime. Problem with LM is that you have to service with their technians or you void the warranty which costs like 500-600$.

The only real difference is LM probs has double the steam power and rated for 100 shots daily, with a thermal consistency of for 10 shots back to back with the larger boiler. If using a home machine making 1-2 coffees, really won't make a difference.

          • @POSITIVEVIBESONLY: I service myself and cringe every time seeing the amount of seals/valves inside the e61. I'd probably never purchase a LM, I don't drink that much coffee to justify that price. for $6000 I can't even get things like proper pre-infusion, shot timer or a real paddle. you can get a mod but that'd set you back another $2k+.

            • @OzHan: Getting a machine rated for 100+ shots a day is just overkill. I would say owning one is more of a luxury purchase like buying a rolex. A good E61 will last a lifetime with servicing and internal parts changes and that's where a true bargain lies.

      • As per ozhan the saturated head of the la marzocco is superior to e61. I have the la pavoni Botticelli speciality dual boiler and this is a better buy than mine. If I had the option again I'd buy this over mine but in saying that I still love my machine.

      • This.

    • I would say the Rocket is a step above based simply on specs alone as it has more features. But it also has a much larger footprint, and for most home baristas - doesn’t satisfy the LM end game itch. If you don’t care about that - and spec sheet is really all you care about, I wouldn’t go anywhere near the LM.

Never thought I’d see the day ANY coffee machine priced above the $900 Breville is asking for their DB to get any more than 20 or 30 upvotes on ozbargain despite it being a substantial discount from rrp. 100+ upvotes on a luxury item on ozbargain is…unprecedented.

LM seems to be caught unawares as well, their website isn’t ready for the ozbargain onslaught – never in their wildest imagination would they think an luxury Italian made product would appeal to the ozbargain crowd lol.

  • I have the LM Linea Mini which is also included in the deal at a slightly higher price - They're extremely solid and look the part.

As they're rated for commercial use it's not uncommon to hear of people leaving them on 24-7 for years without any issues. (I couldn't do it with our electricity prices)

Plus they use a lot of the same parts as the commercial machines so you shouldn't have issues getting replacement parts for a very very long time - unlike Breville's etc

  • +3

Omg rate increase coming because we don't stop spending…I'll stick to my Hario switch…

  • Upcoming a $6k coffee machine , love it!

  • Price increase to $6,999 with the grinder.. bummer

    • So this was an error? I can't even get to the site…been trying for 1 hr

      • I think so :(

I got on after a while, and it was $5999 with 12 months coffee, or $6999 with grinder and 12 months coffee

I can't get back in now, so fingers crossed I hallucinated

        • +1

It is $5999 for the micra with grinder and 1 year coffee with free shipping, I just successfully placed an order

          • @Gezzaman: did you get a code for the 1 year coffee subscription? I couldn't find it anywhere in my email.

  • How is this better than the Electronika? curious.

    • +3

"E-61's are built with off-the-shelf components whose designs are in the public domain. La Marzocco designs their own groups and uses custom components in a lot of places inside the machine where you will never know. LM is very particular.

One example that has been discussed a lot is the "no-burn" steam arm. Most E-61's use off-the-shelf chromed brass steam wands which have had a PTFE (a.k.a. Teflon) tube inserted. The Micra has a double-wall stainless steel arm whose technology is used only on a few top-end premium commercial machines. The Micra's arm is manufactured just for the LMLu and costs (my educated guess) at least 10x an off-the-shelf chromed brass arm. Do both approaches steam milk? Yes. Does one last longer than another? Yes, but you'll never reach the life of a chromed brass wand at home. (End-of-life is when the chrome flakes/wears off.)

One approach just costs more. Not better or worse, just more expensive. Thus, a typical E-61 is able to offer more "stuff" at a lower price. "

    • +1

I wouldn't call it better - at least not 3k better. At the end of the day it becomes about user experience, style, design, allure of the brand image etc. LM satisfies all of this and more. In addition, it's an extremely sturdy machine with parts that are slightly better.

In terms of features alone, the saturated group head is completely different beast - I personally like it more than an e61 as it doesn't have that solenoid valve that spits out water after every shot. The LM is clean, seamless, heats up very quickly, and has a design language that differs vastly from the other machines that sets it apart. Is it worth 3k more? No. But then again, is a luxury car really worth 2-3x more (at least) over a corolla if they both get you from A to B?

      • +1

When you get to this price point in espresso machines it's about longevity, repeatability and functionality. That's where your money is going. A BDB can produce fantastic coffee and is great value for money, especially at $900. NOTHING competes with it at this price point. The other side to this is the BDB which will usually on average last 3- 5 years before being tossed into landfill by most people.

La Marzocco, ECM, Rocket etc will last 20-30+ years if looked after and will be consistent, reliable and really, really well made.

If you are the kind of person who buys Hush Puppies, Wild Rhino, Blaq shoes/boots and wears them for a year until they fall apart, then buy the BDB. But if you are the kind of guy who buys RM Williams shoes/boots and gets them re-soled every couple of years and keeps them for 10 years, buy a Rocket/La Marzocco/ECM/Profitec.

        • -1

Hey cool, so what sort of shoes do LM owners wear? something that's gotta last 50 years from continuing your pattern… haha

  • What's a good grinder that people pair this with?

    Weber EG1? Option-O P100? DF83? Zero Z1? Niche duo?

    • niche is the most suitable candidate. espresso is for chumps. if you're getting one of these grinders you'll only be sipping gesha and eugenioides grinded unimodally and extracted via a filter/pourover. /sarcasm

      • +1. They've just removed VAT from orders too so great time to get one.

The EG1 is more than 50% more expensive than a P100 here :(

      • The niche duo has a 83mm flat burr so not sure if it's gonna help much lol

    • I use the niche as it's the best value grinder around. For a step up - you'd really have to pay for an Option-O (as a home user, that is).

      • Zero or duo?

        • Zero - I have had it for about 6 months.

    • Sculptor 78s, P64, Eureka series. Depends on your budget. Are you after a single-dosing grinder with low retention? Not everyone wants the additional workflow that single dosing requires. Is it for filter or espresso or both?
