  • Damnit, I just bought this YESTERDAY at $550. And it's just been shipped this morning, so can't cancel.

And it's being shipped by Toll who are incompetent. I only have a PO Box and they couldn't deliver a webcam I ordered last week to my PO. So it's sitting somewhere, who knows where, and I rang them last week and they said they'll forward it to some Newsagent near me, but the tracking shows it as going somewhere awaiting pickup. I think I have to call them again.

    • Buy one more and return the expensive one.

      • Yeah but then I’ll have to pay return shipping.

        • +2

          With Amazon?, no.
          Done it so many times.

          • +1

@MakkhiChoos: Thanks. Maybe I’ll give it a try. Just being a big package and delivered by a courier, I thought would probably not qualify for free returns. I don’t have prime membership at the moment too.

Edit: I can't work it out, the returns page is all generic, there's no mention of "Free Returns" on the product page, so I'm going to have to stick with it. I'm not sure how people are getting free return shipping with no fees when it's not mentioned on product pages.

            • @GeneralSkunk: Its free, doesn't matter the size, you just have to take it to a parcel point location they take it for free

            • @GeneralSkunk: Amazon provides free shipping labels if you select a good reason for return

              • +1

@capslock janitor: 'Incompatible or not useful' I think is a no questions asked $0 return label option for most scenarios

                • @rekke: But wait if he returns the Amazon one it doesn't make a different to his pocket and he doesn't get difference back. All for 50 odd bucks?

    • +3

Get onto Amazon chat support and ask for a partial refund/credit.

      • +3

Yeah thats a better way, I even got partial refund on an item that was on sale like 2 weeks after i bought it

        Amazon support is pretty great

      • Thanks - d'oh, I had a work meeting and now it's back up to $550. The chat person "tried" but I guess won't honour a price that was. Ah well.. I know for next time.

  • +1

    Anybody have one of these?

I have been on stick vacuums for years and trying to convince myself to purchase one, I have a dog, but he is of the hound variety so hairs are like little needles as opposed to big clumps of fur.

Do people generally recommend purchasing new or second hand Miele vacuums?

    • +17

New, they will last forever. I have the previous model, now about 8 years old. Best vacuum ever. The suction powered rotating brush head will pick up your dogs fur no problem. Don’t get sucked into buying a Dyson. Pun intended.

      • -2

My old Miele barrel Vac stinks now

      • +1

i have a previous model as well, and if you have carpet, the TurboBrush is excellent. I picked one up off Gumtree for $25.

      • This brand better than Dyson?

    • Much as don't like Miele for whitegoods (had their top-level stuff, they break, they cost a fortune to fix) I love my C3 Cat and Dog (also have a Dyson stick, it's night and day).

    • I've had one for 4-5 years. Works as good as the day I bought it. I have an indoor labrador that creates tumbleweeds in the house after a few days - the turbo attachment on this is great. Just change the filters regularly. It feels like those old school appliances that would never break.

    • +2

Yep, so much stronger than a stick vacuum, going strong after over 5 years

    • Had one for a few years. Got a dog and the stick was not cutting it. So we got this and its amazing how much more effective it is. Highly recommend.

    • I bought this one and I don't have a dog. I just have long hair and it's everywhere.

    • +1

      I have both.

The Miele is significantly better than the dyson. I'd say probably 3x as much suction power and actually makes your house super clean.

Mine is ~10 years old now and still perfectly fine.

    • I have one and it works well since 2018. Long hair gets tangled into the turbo head. You need to cut tangled hair carefully from the turbo head or unscrew the brush head and remove the hair. Suction is very powerful.
Man!!!, this vacuum sucks (in a good way)

    • yep liked it so much i bought a second one for downstairs for convenience - great suction/power - you do have to use bags though - the bags are cheap and seem to take a while to fill - one con the plastics on the head seem a little cheapish but they have lasted and seem to take a fair bit of abuse - have out ours 5 and 8 years very reliable - also they are compact and easy to move around

  • -1

Do these really out do the Dysons?

    • +24

Dyson. All hype. Overpriced, fragile rubbish.

      • Don't say this on the Dyson V15/Gen5Detect posts, you'll get some angry comments ;)

        • +3

So they ARE the Apple of the vacuum world, you say?

      • We have a Dyson DC 21 motorhead and its still going strong after maybe 12 years. We have been pretty happy with it, and it was such a massive upgrade over our previous Hoover with motorized brush head. Is this really that much better than a dyson corded vac with a powerhead or are you all comparing a 240v corded vac to the dyson stick vacs? would be interested to know if it really is that much better, and id actually be tempted to upgrade if it truly is.

    • +9

All day. dyson is the Apple of the vacuum world.

      • -1

I'd say Miele is the Apple of the Vacuum world in this comparison..

    • -4

I've had a Dyson and a Miele, and while other Miele stuff is amazing, I'd go back to a dyson vacuum, especially for dog hair.

      • +1

        "High Yield Investment"? ;)

    • Yes. Especially with dog (labrador cross) and cat (domestic middle hair think hairy) fur.

    • +3

Yes, my carpet feels soooo nice to walk over once you vacuum with this too. The bags are inexpensive ($19 for 4 on The Good Guys Commerical) or $29 elsewhere.

Dyson is ok for quick jobs, doing the lounge etc, but if you want a deep clean get this

    • +1

Yes, shits all over the Dyson.

    • +1

The main thing is the miele is built to last 20 years or so whereas the Dyson's are more or less disposable. It is also half the price of a V15 on sale. And bags are more sanitary and gets you more filtration, less maintenance than bagless. Don't have to wash or unclog filters every month

    • Yes. The Dysons sticks win in terms of convenience, but this is better in performance.

Bags are a bit annoying though, but worth the performance.

  • +4

And last question, is this overkill if you don’t have pets?

    • +9

      No

    • +3

All that makes this a "cat and dog" model is the air driven beater bar floor and upholstery tools plus the charcoal post-motor filter. The tools are good for pulling hair from carpets but also good to agitate carpets in general to improve the cleaning.

The charcoal filter you could just replace with a normal one after it clogs up but the air driven tools are quite expensive to upgrade to if you bought the base model

      • @fullspend can you upgrade a Miele C3 Complete with accessories to make it similar to the Miele C3 Complete Cat & Dog?

        • +1

          Yes,

It's just a different filter plus the turbo brush heads. These can be purchased separately but much cheaper if you just buy them initially.

          • @Powershopz: @Powershopz cheers mate. Got the Miele C3 Complete for $340, so good to know I can upgrade it if I need it and still come out a similar or cheaper price than the Cat & Dog model :)

            • +2

@rekke: Yeah, in the vacuum world different models within the same model family are almost always the identical machine with different accessories included in the box.

And a different paint job so everyone knows you paid more.

  • +1

Ask Jb Hi-Fi to price match Amazon then pay with a discounted Ultimate Gift Card (only one allowed online) - this method got the Miele C3 Complete down to $340 last month.

    • Do it by phone and pick up , cos instore staff are sometimes incompetent matching Amazon online

      • Yeah, this was online price match via Live Chat.

  • I don’t know, I have C1 but got dyson later because this one is too heavy for me to move around, especially if you have to vacuum stairs…but suction power is great!

  • +2

We have one of these and it is absolutely fantastic. Be warned though, you will go through the first bag pretty quickly as it will be sucking up all the stuff that your old vacuum just couldn't get! I have recommended it to all our family and friends and at this price it is an absolute steal!

  • +5

Miele C1 power line vacuum is also on sale at Amazon for $249 (was $419). It was quite popular at this price several weeks ago: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/771167

    • +1

      Cheers legend!

    • Is it really a sale if it's been that price for multiple months now?

      • Fair point.
Also same price at JB and Bing Lee.

        • Except Jb Hi-Fi accepts Ultimate Gift Cards which can be bought for a discount, up to 22% discounted last week I believe. So $249 x 0.78 = $194.

          • @rekke: How do I go about ordering the discounted gift cards?

            • @Khaarns: They are generally posted as deals and you can buy them as per the T&Cs for each deal

Sometimes you can stack deals, such as discounted Coles MC > Discounted Amazon GC (Prezee/Shopback) > Discounted Ultimate Gift Card for a cumulative discount of 22% such as last week.

              • @rekke: Thank you for the insights, cheers!

    • +1

Real deal is in the comments nice

    • +1

this is the value for money model to get. Love mine, beats any Dyson

  • Where is the best place to buy bags and replacement hepa filter?

    • I just purchased the vacuum and grabbed the genuine ones that were suggested.
      4pk is $29 and the 16pk is $85.

    • Amazon, COTD, Ebay

    • The good guys commercial is the cheapest if you have access. I paid 19 for 4 bags and 35 for a hepa filter yesterday

      • I have ABN. How hard is it to get access? Do I need to jump through hoops?

  • +1

EBay. Generic work just fine. Else they are $5 a pop.

  • +1

$431.99 from Edozer (looks like free shipping too):

    https://www.edozer.com.au/products/miele-11071460-complete-c…

Or graphite grey for $427.99 (not the Cat and Dog version though):

    https://www.edozer.com.au/products/miele-complete-c3-family-…

    • +2

I was going to cancel my Amazon order and grab this but did a quick call to Miele customer service and apparently they aren’t an authorised reseller so assuming you are relying on them solely for warranty?

  • +1

Thanks got second one for upstairs. These are quite heavy and troublesome to bring up and downstairs.

  • +2

Is this made in China or made in Germany?

I had a German made vacuum Miele it was going great until my roommate destroyed it vacuuming alot of water. Then he bought me another, same C3 and but it was made in China. The vacuum worked but it was so bad compared to my old German made C3 that I gave it away on gumtree.

    • C3s should all be made in Germany still? It's the C1, C2 that generally aren't?

      • I sent a question off to Amazon, Ill update once the question that has been answered.

  • I have one of these and it is great. With two dogs and a cat, it is amazing. It does a really good job on the carpet. Heaps better than a Dyson Animal Ball I had.

    Highly recommend.

  • +1

Hows this in comparison to the Bosch GL-30 which is now $179 at Hardly Normal ?

    • GL-30 is a compact machine. With bagged vacuums, bigger is better because as the bag fills up they lose efficiency

Miele is also the leader when it comes to domestic bagged vacuums, everything about them is designed that bit better than the others

  • Thanks, bought one for my Argentine Pila Dog.

    • good thinking! just vac the dog directly so it doesn't get to the floor in the first place.

  • It shows $496.60 on the page but changes to $549 once I add it to the cart. What am I doing wrongly?

    • 'Amazon Warehouse' ran out of stock, so it's now sold from 'Amazon AU'.

    • Arriving too late, one suspects

  • +1

damn….i have missed out..price back to normal now.

    • +3

If you are considering a deal on an Amazon price drop, you can ask JB Hi-Fi live chat to price match it and the link will last 24 hours despite the Amazon sale ending. The Amazon price drops often last only a few hours.

      • thank you

  • Great vacuum cleaners. Only issue is cleaning out the heads. I found it easier to do on my Dyson (can open up the head) but Miele I have to get a knife and cut all the hair out myself. Probably doing it wrong, but I can't figure out another way.
    And I haven't RTFM :)

    • I have similar issue.

I normally just get a sharp blade and cut down the slots. Struggle getting scissors underneath hair.

  • -3

How does Miele compare to Dyson?

    • +3

How does reading compare to typing?

    • Refer to the first comments in this thread

      • Ahh sorry totally missed it

    • Dyson has no filter, so any fine dust and pollen particles will become airborne and end up in your lungs. You can get a HEPA filter for the Miele which means the air coming out is cleaner then the air in your house.

  • Great vacuum. Literally lifts up my old carpet off the floor.

  • If anyone is still interested in this, you can get a box damaged one for $450.80.
If it is only the box that is damaged then the vacuum should be fine. After opening mine today, it was well and truly protected and safe.

  • Down to $479.60 for anyone following who didn't purchase already.
