These drinks have loads of essential sugars, essential carbs, essential artificial flavours. Essential ingridients for liver and metabolic health.

    • If you order it with no sugar does that mean it will have NO sugar?

      • +8

It means no added fructose syrup. Still plenty of sugar in the fruit flavouring syrups though …

      • +1

none added or something, no sugar and full sugar varies lots between drinks, some full sugar can have 75g, some <40g. no sugar can vary from ~20-43g.
some no sugar taste like watered down water, some with like 5g more sugar taste fantastic

      • +1

Not if you order toppings. They sit in a simple syrup.

      So which ones are better?

      • Almost any other chain imo, except share tea.

        • +2

Thanks for that and can I enquire what’s makes others better and share tea not so?

          • @dtrinh: Our family all don't like Sharetea. No particular reason why but I guess the taste is somewhat different/inferior. No problem with Chatime, Gong cha, Co co etc. There is only a Sharetea milk tea shop where we live and we would not go there. Instead we would waste an extra 30 minutes just to get the milk teas from the next suburb.

          • +2

@dtrinh: Here I am only talking about the original bubble tea at half sugar, that's how I tell the quality of different stores.

Sharetea tastes all just syrup, I don't taste the milk, I don't taste tea, I don't taste anything at all, it's just sweet sugar water. That's why I don't like it. Almost the same issue with Chatime, but the latter is better, probably because they either put more milk or some creamer.

The key of good milk tea is "milk", tea is just a plus. Real milk is healthier than artificial replacements but it doesn't taste as good. I know some shops even use A2 milk, but it doesn't make much difference. Coco probably uses a lot of creamer as it tastes pretty heavy, but even knowing it's not good for my health, I still have it occasionally, as I miss the taste…

I personally think Bengong's Tea is doing the best in taste and quality (health), they use real milk, good tea, but a bit expensive. Their fruit teas are made from real fruits too.

For heavy good taste, I'd go for King Tea for its cheese top milk tea, or Coco.

I probably have 1 cup a week now, so it shouldn't hurt me too bad even if I drink full sugar. But if you drink a lot, be aware of the sugar intake.

            • +1

@phoenixpan: Haven't tried Bengong but agree with everything else

King Tea is my favourite, however it can vary store to store. You can really taste the milk/tea in their drinks and their fruit flavours taste more genuine rather than sugared syrup

              • @Cheap Dave: Haha, yeah, they vary from store to store, and even from time to time (probably due to staff experience?).

            • @phoenixpan: Okay, so which chain is the cheapest but also tastes okay? I don't mind downloading an app for it

              • +1

@Sierras89: Some stores support Liven and Shopback, which gives you 10% off, as for the cheapest, there's one in CBD, inside Event cinima, named 10.14, they always have buy one get one free, so it's like $8-9 for two cups, they have both fresh milk and artificial products, so you could try both in one go (yes you can have different ones from the deal).

For one cup, a cheap option would be recently opened in World Square, MIXUE Ice Cream & Teashop, I remember it's $4 bubble tea and tastes decent. Otherwise…everyone is rasing their price, large cup is usually $7~8 now.

      • CoCo is nice. Machi Machi is also nice but on the pricier side.

    • Because I can't find Easy Way anymore :(

      • Haha I miss Easy Way taro milk tea

        • An old favourite. Must be like 20 years ago with the only shops in the Sydney Chinatown/Haymarket area.

  • +8

Chatime is terrible. Why would you go there when you have loads of other options

    • +2

I go once a year, buy one before birthday month to get a free one on birthday month

  • +4

So many good tea places that aren't chatime. They don't even use milk powder anymore..

    • as opposed to real milk?

I'm not seeing the negatives here

  • Also half price first sign up

  • Stacks with 10% Cashback on $50 & $100 Ultimate Everyone Gift Card (Max 2 Gift Cards Per Denominations) @ ShopBack via App - OzBargain

If you don't have shopback use the referral system above and be paid to drink bubble tea. Hahahhahaha

It's kind of crazy to me how there's basically a bubble tea store on every street on Sydney.

Coming back from South Korea/Japan they are hard to find.

    • +1

Bubble tea is bigger in Hong Kong/China than Korea/Japan.

    • -2

Because Australia has had, and continues to have, unsustainable immigration policies. The presence of a bubble tea store indicates that the average Australian will be priced out of housing in that suburb.

  • -2

Overpriced tea, people are crazy to pay upwards of $5 for this. No wonder a new tea store pops up every few months in Melbourne CBD.

    • Not much choice in SA sadly, tea shops are all around pricey regardless who they are

    • +8

People also pay $5 for coffee and milk. Now which one is overpriced?

  • +1

Yakult green tea is the weirdest drink but I love it.

  • I drank it twice and I hatted it, it's not at all thick it gas light flavor like some syrup in water and those stupid balls whatever it's called.
