AMD Ryzen 7 7700

From a quick search, this is the cheapest price this CPU has been listed for on Ozbargain - as well as anywhere online right now.

Recommended by Hardware Unboxed as the Best Value Ryzen AM5 CPU if building a new PC gaming system.

Average 1% faster than the 5800x3d and average 3% slower than the 7800x3d in 4K resolution gaming. (Games that benefit from 3D V Cache will run better with the 7800x3d) - Keep in mind that the 7800x3d is around $300 more expensive than the 7700!

https://youtu.be/XJSXpGZTrio

Just bought one myself, might upgrade to the 8800x3d or 9800x3d in the future with the $300 saved over the 7800x3d.

This purchase is also eligible to receive a free copy of Star Wars: Jedi Survivor from AMD.

    Killer deal!!

  • +3

if only 7700 CPU had a built in 7700 GPU

    • +7

Well it has a 2 CU RDNA2 iGPU, and that's faster than the GT 7700, so wish granted!

Next time, make a more specific wish

      • well jinny out of the whisky bottle I hope I still have the other two wishes!

can I have another 8GB VRAM in my 3070?

and a ticket to a waterpark please!

        • I think there actually are modding kits being sold somewhere for that, but I wouldn't recommend it! 😂

          • @jasswolf: right you are! until warranty runs out on my card I am not likely to pull it apart

even then I will likely sell it on before wty runs out so the future owner has some peace of mind, and I get some cash towards the next one. in the current market see no reason to upgrade.

means more budget for whisky 🥃 lol

  • +5

AM5 is looking like more of a valid upgrade path than a 5800X3D CPU upgrade, (once you sell your current AM4 CPU/MB/RAM)

    • +2

Yep most recent vid from HU said this… 7700 is basically the same as 5800X3D on the newer platform with support until 2025.

      • +4

2025 isn't particularly compelling to me. I wonder how worthwhile an upgrade after 3 years is really going to be for most people. A commitment to support until the end of 2027 or '28 would be more convincing.

        • Just an option I guess… Just like a person with a 2700X can go to 5800X3D without touching/needing mb and ram upgrade… You may in 4-5 yrs time pickup whatever the last 3D chip is (9800X3D or whatever) and keep it going for a couple more years… 🤷🏻‍♂️

      • +1

Same average on their test suite, not the same results. There are some individual overlaps though, but yes if you're buying a brand new setup, go straight to AM5.

        • +1

Definitely good for those building new .. for those like me 5800X3D is our best best without a full overhaul.

    • +1

They might be releasing a 5600X3D soon

    • +1

One AM5 motherboards get cheaper I think this is the route I'll go for.

  • 7700 comes with a cooler too which you can flog off or keep spare
Great value CPU for the performance and now boards and ram are cheaper a viable option

    • +3

      Boards are still expensive

      • +1

Only if you want stupidly priced x670 stuff

    • What does that have to do with this deal? Check the forums.

  • Can we use SB on this?

  • 5700x at <250$ better value. My top end for this chip would be 370$~ the performance improvements match up with the costs

    PCMAG AU 7700 review

a relatively low-end, Radeon RDNA 2-based integrated graphics processor (IGP).

Probably good for low end gaming but most just get a graphics card.

  • +1

Wow this is fantastic! I bought one a few months back and it’s been stellar. Also I’d recommend checking out Hardware Unboxed’s new video comparing this CPU to the 5800XD; they’re pretty much the same! (Though AM5 brings PCI-5, ddr5 etc). Awesome deal.

    • +2

Yup, that's the video which helped me decide which CPU to buy :)

  • Yeah dang just got the 7600 for like 310 or something otherwise would have gone for this.

  • 7700 run cooler than 7600 from all the reviews i have watched as well, if budget allowed i will go for 7700/7700x.

    • i haven't seen those reviews, link please?

    • +2

7700 comes with a better stock cooler, that could be why.

  • +1

was keen to see the price of 7950x

    $783.20 after 20% discount applied. $979 pre-discount.

usually can be sourced for around $880 so a decent discount on the initially high price.

  • What would be a good board + ram to go with this?

  • +1

May be a lame question. Thinking of building my own PC for first time for photo editing and office tasks. May be an overkill:
    AMD 7700 CPU (this deal)
Gigabyte Motherboard B650 M (Other deal)
    2 X 32GB Corsair Vengeance RAMs
    2 X Samsung EVO SSDs
    Windows 11 Pro

Can you guys also suggest what else do I need or links please e,g CPU case, power supply etc

    TIA

    • GPU is biggest question and will drive how much power supply needed etc
      Probably only need 2x16gb ram
Look for 6000mhz with cl30/32 speeds

      • Thanks. Haven’t thought of the GPU yet. Looking for recommendations.

    • +1

Nah man not overkill. I upgraded from the 3700X to the 7700X and the difference was noticeable; particularly in this astrophotography software I use to integrate subs like holy sh!tballs I couldn’t believe how much quicker it finished the job compared to the 3700X (like half the time if not quicker?). Photoshop and Lightroom definitely feels quicker and snappier (less waiting for things to load up and snappier working with big tif files etc) but that could also partly be because of the NVME SSD as well.

      • Thanks for the insight Mate. Let me know in case you have any recommendations for power supply/CPU Case/GPU etc.

        • I’ve always gone with Corsair PSU’s they reliable for me, GPU wise I think any half decent ones should be fine these days (depends on if you gaming or not). Cases I’d say go with your own aesthetics and then read reviews to make sure it don’t perform too badly with airflow/cooling. Get a decent CPU cooler as AM5 has thermal target and will boost as much as the temps allow it. I’m air cooling guys so I went with DeepCool AK620 and with tweaks I’ve seen basically all core 5.2 GHz boost clock.

  • best value cpu chart here https://youtu.be/ghZaQ3T0CRg 20:20
This is based on RRP and US dollars that CPU+M/B+RAM, kinda give you a clue what platform is best value and performance for gaming right now. (special price should have totally different rank)

  • +1

    $1000 for AM5 to upgrade my 6 year old AM4 (X370, 3700X, 16GB RAM) is pretty tempting

  • A sign to build a new PC to replace my i7 7700??

  • +1

    It's only $20 more to get the 7700X: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/175430023462

  • Are the coupon codes working for you guys? Both SEOFY20 and SEOFY22 aren't working for me. Maybe it's because I'm overseas rn

    • I just tried SEOFY22 (ebay Plus Code) and the code is still working for me. Not sure why both codes aren't working for you :/

Maybe someone else can chime in.

      • Probably because location, even when I add .au to the end. Damn you ebay!

        • Ah darn, unlucky - well silver lining, these CPU's will get even cheaper as time goes by.

  • Dang just ordered 7600x yesterday for $334 yesterday, is it worth returning and getting this one ?

    • +1

7700 pros - free cooler, runs cooler than the 7600 in general, processing power of the 5800x3d, I say go for it.

      • +1

Thanks man, Prob won't be upgrading system for next 5ish years or so, ended up ordering 7700, will return 7600x

  • +1

Anyone got any reviews on Thermaltake TH360 AIO ? Seems to be so much cheaper than other AIO's but can't find many reviews on it

    • Hey, if I'm looking at the correct model that Thermaltake AIO isn't compatible with AM5 motherboards because you need to remove the backplate of the motherboard to mount it - but it isn't possible to remove the backplate on AM5 motherboards. Plus warranty is only 2 years which is poor.

The 7700 doesn't get as hot as other processors, especially the X versions. It's a 65W CPU vs 120W+ for the X models so you don't need a crazy cooler to keep the 7700 cool.

Since you were looking at water cooling, have a look at Deepcool LS720 or LT720 AIO's - they have very good reviews and 5 year warranty.

If you want to spend a bit more, check out - Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360 A-RGB - highly regarded by Gamers Nexus and other reviewers.

I bought an air cooler for myself, the Noctua NH-U12A chromax.black - similar performance to the much larger NH-D15 but in a compact form. Zero maintenance, virtually nothing can go wrong, set and forget.

The air cooler that often gets recommended though is the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 because of its price vs performance ratio - has very good reviews, also performs similarly to the NH-D15 but is much cheaper than the offerings from Noctua.

There's plenty of other models/brands that are out there as well, but which ever you choose make sure that it can fit your case and is compatible with your motherboard - and watch reviews on Youtube.

      • Thanks for reply and suggestions, have been looking at some reviews and deepcool and Arctic seem to have really good reviews, but I want something white with ARGB fans, might go with Deepcool in white (looks pretty sick) with some ARGB fans.
