Or they just to change the prices as soon as price match request comes in. Let the customers do the work for them.

        • Probably have a search alert for officeworks, OW, price beat, etc.

I do not like the style… i would get it if it looked nicer (i like the look of AmazFit T-Rex)

I would be more interested, but it doesn't do anything for me either. I have a Fossil HR hybrid, and it does all of the things I need, the battery lasts 3 weeks, and i like it's design.

      • I bought a TicWatch E a couple of weeks ago for under 40 bucks delivered, and after my fossil gen 4 experience I wasn't expecting much but everything seems to work fine. Maybe the bar was set low in my head but I can't seen how paying 10 times as much is going to improve my life

        • For sure. I had the Skagen Falster 2 back when, and it just kind of sucked. Even with current watch tech, all I need is a vibration to flag calls and texts, some alarms and thats about it. I'm loving the hybrid, and it cost $100 at JB on clearance.

        • Hey Jackson, are using the Ticwatch with iOS or Android? Trying to get an idea of how good it is on iOS..

          • @Thiefsie: Android. Just buy and Apple watch mate, if the co. didn't p*ss me off so much I would probably be using one of those. I refuse to buy into a company that price fixes, is anti-right to repair, and refuses to make their devices compatible with open standards (except where it suits them of course)

            • @Jackson: But Apple does all that…..

              • +2

@fprjet: They do, but the guy is already using iOS so it's likely he doesn't know or care

                • @Jackson: Yeh and I understand the sentiment, but Apple just works so well with eachother which is why people stick with it. I hate their computers but have to use it for work. Granted I haven't used an M1/M2 so that might change my mind. Everything else they make is excellent, albeit expensive.
I likely will end up with an Apple Watch, but also frankly don't need notifications on my wrist… so I'll hold out a bit longer.

    this or Galaxy Watch 5?

    • +5

Galaxy unless you committed in Google environment

      • +5

Even then, galaxy watch is running Google's wear OS so there's not that much of a difference

Guaranteed this will be dropped like most Google endeavours in the next two years. And this is coming from a pixel supporter!

Have a Watch4 with my P7P. No issues other than ECG & blood pressure readings not working, which can be fixed by installing modified apks for it.

    • "ECG and blood pressure monitoring. These features can be particularly useful for those concerned about their heart health since they allow you to track your heart rate and blood pressure on demand. Unfortunately, these features are exclusive to Samsung phones. With the Galaxy Watch 4, it was possible to enable ECG and blood pressure monitoring on non-Samsung phones with the help of modded apps. But we’re not sure whether this method works with the new model."

      From https://www.xda-developers.com/samsung-galaxy-watch-5-androi….

Applies to Watch 5 too. I would skip the "modded apps".
I've not jumped into either, Pixel or Galaxy Watch.

      • Modded aps are easy, i did it with a 30 pro.

      • I found the blood pressure reading on Samsung completely inaccurate and useless.
If they actually worked, hospitals would use something similar for continuous monitoring (in addition to cuffs).

        ECG does work, I believe.

    • Yes, you can pair it to any Android device. I've used the Galaxy watch range between Samsung & Oppo devices.

    • Using the cheap galaxy watcxh 4 LTE deal from jb hifi with my P7P - pretty good watch.

Just wish I could delete the useless samsung apps from the app list on the watch, can't seem to be able to do that.

$294 with 10% SB or Unidays

    • thanks for the tip. usually SB/Unidays codes does not work with discounted items at Goggle store.

      • In this case it does work, comes out to be $294.10 and then you get $29.41 as google credit a month later if you have the 2TB plan.

I bought this during launch for full price, and was severly disappointed by the battery, but for under $300 hmm wait for next gen? add for Ticwatch 5 Pro? Wait for Galaxy Watch 5 Pro? Just keep on wearing my classic cheapo casio? DECISIONS DECISIONS DECISIONS!

        • Yup. Bought one. Used my Google credit so only paid less around $90.

    • I've just signed up at Shopback, but can't find any discounts for the pixel?

        student beans

  • is 4G LTE worth extra $100?

    • +2

Yes if you plan to possibly leave the phone on the desk or at home when you go out for a short jog or something. But be prepared to pay $5-10 per month in supplement phone plan to use the network.

          Optus also.

      • +2

Anyone know if other (budget) providers will ever support watches?

        • very unlikely, an even smaller market to target, not v profitable for them

    • +1

If you are okay with charging up to 2 times a day, it does add some great functionality.

      • Been using my BT pixel watch for the last couple of months with auto brightness, AOD, sleep tracking (for 8 weeks when I was charging it while watching TV in the evening rather than overnight - stopped doing this as my sleep is fine based on the initial 2 month data), Bluetooth, heart rate monitoring, NFC and wifi on. It's off charge at 6.50am and goes back on charge at 11.30pm with at least 15% battery remaining. The only thing I don't have on is GPS. So I'm regularly surprised on how so many complain about the battery or have to charge multiple times during the day and wonder if I'm not using some functions.

        • +1

It really depends on how many notifications you get. My usage didn't change coming from Apple Watch 7 to Pixel watch cellular, and I would get to 2pm in the day and the watch would be at 10%. Mind you, the Pixel Watch barely didn't half the stuff I did on my Apple Watch, so it really should have lasted as long anyway. I do a 40min run with GPS, and it takes the pixel watch down by nearly 30-40% which blew my mind. My Apple Watch would draw barely 10-15%.

        • +1

And with the gps on? If you have to manage settings to get it to last a working day (not even 24 hours), is a fail in my opinion.

          • @dealsucker: I don't have any need to have the GPS on so I've never tested it.

    looking too feminine for me

    • +1

Easily fixed with something like a Spigen or Supcase protector.

    • +2

a plain minimalist round smartwatch is feminine to you?

  • Hope google store have changed their billing process. Last time I purchased a phone online from them my credit card was charged for international transaction fee . Ended up costing more from them.

    • +1

When was the last time you made the purchase? Last 2 years no "Foreign Transaction Fee" and they ship from NSW via overnight express.

  • -2

Still overpriced after the mark down

  • This is the watch my watch wears

  • Anyone got any experience with the ECG & heart tracker on this? My 2nd Fitbit smartwatch just carked it and I'm debating whether to buy a new one (feels stupid given the last two have both died, but I quite like them when they're working).

I had issues with the heart tracker on the Fitbit (Sense) not being super accurate in conditions of extremely high heart rate. There are lots of reports of this on their forums - I think it does some smoothing/averaging for what it /thinks/ is aberrant data (like, the watch is going "no way this dude's heartbeat is this high, it must be an error, we'll just bump the average a bit to account for it!") but is actually legit data.

    • +2

Have the Fitbit sense 2 . Battery fabulous. Heart rate tracking when > 80% maximum heart rate are often sitting way below what it really is.
Sleep tracking great . The how are you feeling tracking is a damn annoying feature but the main reason for upgrading from the sense to the sense 2.
My reason for upgrading to sense 2 was the ECG function. The annoying thing with this is when you have arrhythmias/palpitations is says try again, unable to do your ECG… When the arrhythmia has passed its able to give you a pretty ECG again. As the arrhythmia is not sustained longer than 10minutes or so at a time it doesn't tell you. How it passed TGA with this flaw I don't know.

      • +1

Thanks for your response. Yeh so I had similar problems with the Sense (1) - BUT it worked differently at different times. I had tachycardia for an extended period last year and the Fitbit captured it perfectly, including the ECG function.

However, a few months later when I had it again, the Sense wouldn't recognise it - it just showed me at my usual heart rate. It was off by a factor of 2-3. This to me, renders it almost useless as a device if I can't trust it's tracking in these scenarios.

I am not sure if this was just the result of a bad update & maybe it's since been fixed (my watch broke ~3 months ago). But the fact that you're having the exact same issue with the Sense 2 makes me reluctant to shell out for one of those.

        • Don't do it. Not worth the upgrade from the sense.

  • +2

    more e waste

my advice: atleast wait for gen 2

  • +1

I have a 3 year old Amazfit Bip whose battery still lasts 30 days+ if I don't use GPS. Waiting to find a decent watch I can upgrade to that has at least 2 week battery life.

    • same here . don't understand amazfit does it but no one else can last 1 day

  • Can wait for next gen. More battery and health features plz.

  • 2.0 coming out

  • +1

I have one and I wont recommend it even at this price. The screen is too small and battery life is below average to poor depending on how you look at it.

    • I look at it if it lasts a day it's good enough.

Coming from a Galaxy Watch 3 which EASILY had 2 days (still have it as backup), going to this Pixel Watch was a shock to see the battery deplete as fast as it does.

However, as long as I enable bedtime mode when I go to sleep (which DOES become habit), I have no problems making 24 hours or even more. That includes 1-3 hours of monitored exercise per day.

I feel the Pixel Watch at this stage is by far the best smart watch I've owned and the pros and features outweigth the less than stellar battery life.

In summary I wish it had more, but I can live with it.

  • My Huawei GT3 is going strong for the last year. Got a few straps and battery actually lasts a whole week. Only down side is no wallet pay but I can live with that for a bit longer.

  • Is this effectively a rebatched Fitbit? I wonder if it has the same weird issue that Fitbit watches used to have (or maybe still do), where it measures running distance using step count and estimated stride length, instead of the GPS measurements. It did record the GPS locations and drew a nice line on the map, but the distance did not tally with the GPS readings. I returned a Fitbit watch for this reason, as it made it useless for measuring performance.

  • Does your watch make crackling sound when you try to use Hey Google without earphones?

  • Can this watch broadcast the HR to Garmin bike computer through BT or Any+?

  • I can never bring myself to get one of these. Knowing pretty soon it becomes obsolete e-waste. Buy another Seiko instead to keep for 20-30 years.

  • +1

I picked up the pixel A series buds for 100 bucks.

    • Thanks for letting us know 👍
