    This actually… seems pretty reasonable

    • I'm trying to figure out any catches or issues compared to our existing Square reader, but I'm not seeing any yet.

…Any hidden monthly bank account fees if you don't turn over enough?

        • Add link to sign up for the business account

Smart mini app is basically just manually enter how much you want to charge. That's it.

From memory in Square you can set up inventory and whatnot?

        • +1

Yeah, the actual Point of Sale side of Square is surprisingly powerful compared to several paid cloud-based POS systems I've setup and used. Being able to setup items with inventory tracking, custom discounts like buy 1 get 1 with a discount etc are pretty handy.

Is it worth 0.8%? That's only maybe $3 a month for our minimal sales, so probably

  • Anything stopping someone from paying themselves with this? For like credit card bonuses with $x spend? lol

$2k spend is $22 fees, but $100 bonus plus progress towards your credit card signup bonus.

    • You can definitely do this.
I did this with Zeller $500 spend for free Zeller Terminal Promotion.

You're signing up with an ABN you would be required to declare it as sole trader/business income in your taxes.

      • Simply claim it as a test payment and then you’ll have a full tax deduction.

        • And then try to explain to the ATO why you are doing $2k in test payments

  • This is a good deal, I signed up a week ago. To maximise your returns, apply for a HSBC account, deposit $2k and pay yourself 20x in lots of $100. This will net you an extra $40 in cashback.

    What about tyro ?

    • +1

      Tyro 1.4%. Westpac 1.4% (doesn't take Amex).

  • Perfect for hooping.
Send my square back to the ACCC or APRA for Jack bashing as he now wants money for nothing, next he is asking for chicks for free.
No more annoying s c counters at Colesworth for 10 grapes on every first.

  • Does anybody know if they conduct a credit check for the application?

I went through the application and it says "We may access credit information held with credit reporting bodies when reviewing this application."

    https://paste.pics/OK03E

    • Yes. They do a credit check with Equifax. I did my application over the phone and the credit check was done while I waited. I don’t understand how that happened when I have asked equifax to put a credit check block on me. Yet I still passed so I’ve been approved.

  • Probably good to churn Coles Master Card?

  • Is Amex included automatically?

  • Has anyone successfully been able to obtain this? Mine is stuck on "approval request" required by a company director, however that page on their website has been down for weeks for me

Got mine yesterday. Set them up &, boy, what a terrible interface compared with Square. Every time you turn the device off, you need to repair it. That's customer facing time that's being used up. Sometimes it wants to update firmware when you pair it; that's exactly the same time you're trying to do a transaction with the customer. Can't issue refunds as easily as Square. No preset amounts. Just as well these were free. We'll probably try them for a couple of weeks, but I'm expecting to shelve them until they improve their system.
