amazon is having this same thing at 59.95 btw

      • Wait .asia lol

    • +1

      HD is $48 and 4K is $78.

Where are you getting $59 from?

    • $59 on Amazon - comes from UK though so free if you have prime

  • This vs Firestick?

    • +3

      Fire stick

    • +2

I've owned both and prefer the Firestick, primarily because the UI isn't as laggy. I used to hate pressing the directional button on the CC remote only for it to do nothing for a second and then jump 5 places on the menu.

Also, this may not be relevant to you, but F1TV Pro is available to d/l onto the Firestick without having to sideload like you do in the CC.

I used to hate pressing the directional button on the CC remote only for it to do nothing for a second and then jump 5 places on the menu.

Never in the last two yeast I experienced such thing. Not even a 1s lag. And I use it daily. I have a 4K version with unmodified software. What's yours?

        • +2

Agreed. Same, no lag on my LG G1 65" TV.

        • +1

Same, no issues, CC is a great device.

        • +1

It was the 4k version. I got rid of it about 18 months ago so perhaps it was just a buggy software version that's been sorted since 🤷

      • I just moved to Kayo yesterday because i was frustrated with the long delay before F1 races and Minis became available on demand on Foxtel, and just now I learn I could have been using F1TV Pro.

        • I had Kayo for 2 seasons and gave up, I found the app to be pretty average (on Sony and LG) and image quality not great.

For F1TV you'll need a VPN too. There's so much content. Highly recommended.

    • Chromecast hands down for me. The Firestick I have constantly stops playing whatever I'm watching randomly regardless of the TV its plugged into.
Plus I prefer the cast function better on google, takes less clicks than doing mirror to Firestick and I can see what its doing from Google home app when kids are on it.
No lag issues on the 3 I have as well (2x4k and one HD).

    • If your doorbell says racist things to your Amazon delivery driver, you might not be able to watch anything anymore or only rehabilitation content. Jokes aside the news of interruption of service made me quite frigid on the idea of owning any Amazon devices

    • This because:
      - not Amazon
      - casting works with any Android device
      - play store has actual useful apps

      • Chromecast works with iphone too

Hd or the 4K is better?

    • +1

4K is 4x the resolution so clearer picture

      • I have an old hd tv and new 4k tv - I have got a 4k version Google Chromecast with Goggle TV, mainly use to play Optus Sports)

Any real life experience if the HD version is laggy? mainly want to use it to play Optus Sports and Youtube on my old HD Sony Tv.

        • Apparently HD might be more laggy. Still unclear to me by reading the comments in the last 3-4 deals in the last week.

  • 4K chromecast or airplay?

    • Google or Apple lol

  • Bear in mind that there has been talk of an updated YTC version due at some point. The 4K version is getting a little long in the tooth, and lacks AV1 decoding, which is a google requirement for Android 14

    • I thought I remembered hearing about this. So is the expectation that there will be a "new" version with a different chip in it to support AV1 and that might be why we are seeing a clearance on existing 4k stock?

    • +1

Surely this doesn't mean casting etc will simply stop working if you update to Android 14 though?

      • It's more that they need a 4K device that meets the standards they are looking to impose on other manufacturers. It doesn't look good otherwise.

        • they totally stuff it up by releasing HD version instead of updated 4K version.

need more storage and AV1 on the 4K version

Thats the HD model not the 4k.

      • Ah, okey dokey

Google offering "Free" with a 2tb ONE upgrade.

    • Where did you see this?

  • nah I wouldn't get it from optus they will sell of your data and credit card information to the highest bidder. But good luck to you all enjoy replacing you license and passport again and all your cards.

    • There's no license or passport required for this and you can use a fake DOB and PayPal if you wish.

      • best to just never be a custom of optus and never risk it.

  • Google store also has a sale, but $79. And the 1080p version is $49.

  • +1

Thanks op! Got this price matched at Officeworks to get it at $65.55.

    • Same; however, this was cheaper in one of the eBay plus deals for $54.

      • I got negged 12 times for saying the same thing…

  • how's this for decoding 10bit anime?
