      • Rickshaw run?! That sounds like a death wish haha. I've done 12 weeks in India over 3 trips and you barely feel safe in a Scorpio or Suzuki van.

Cars on indian roads are built for survivability, cost effectiveness and ease of repair. Mahindra sells millions of cars a year, it will be interesting to see if this fits the Australian market. I don't think this car will sell in India given its size.

      • Exactly but that is also the reason why they are so agricultural as well. I dont think its competitive for this market. Toyota in India is also more reliable than any Mahindra ever.

      • Amazingly you found the most common cars in India are Indian built cars, so that means that they are reliable because Indian roads suck. Can't build a road, but obviously great cars.

If someone came to Australia in the 60's or 70's they'd have the same incorrect opinion based on your logic.

        • Can't build a road, but obviously great cars.

Can build the roads, cars and rockets too.. just the mismanagement in some pockets of the country. Highways are amazing.

    • Yeah but OP is positing an Indian-manufactured car in Toyota/Tesla forum. what do you really expect?

    • -1

I suspect this will fall apart in Australian conditions. especially our UV will burn through any plastics.

      • India gets hotter than Australia

        • If a Mahindra breaks down in India. You will never know. By the time it gets reported the forest has grown over it covering all signs. What happens in India, stays in India.

          Have you been?

          • @Naigrabzo: No I haven't, I've heard about their 50⁰C heat waves though. According to the guy who did a rickshaw run the cars there have to be very reliable and easily repairable because India's roads are nearly undrivable

Have you been/owned a Mahindra or you're speaking out your other hole?

  • +13

how's this a deal..just an ad for a new car.

    • You should see some of the Rep posts on here.

  • +6

What's with all these dogshit car makes coming to market in that past few years.

  • +8

Please add Mahindra Doesn't use forced Labour. You won't be funding missile for Australia. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.

    • +5

      You okay?

    • +2

You mentioned "Forced Labour", now wait for the mainland bot army to downvote you to the oblivion.

    • -2

Dunno about Mahindra, but companies owned by Adani funds BJP's domestic terrorism in India right? Or was it BJP funding Adani's fraud based expansion?

      • +6

Both Adani and Ambani fund BJP, and Adani especially is very close to Modi. Therefore no investigation of Adani by Indian regulators after Hindenburg report.

        • +4

Ye heard about that. So weird. Also heard about the crazy fan reception Modi got when he visited Oz recently while the BBC documentary about him (which was conveniently banned in India by the ruling party) was playing in the Australian Parliament.

          • -1

@0FoxGiven: Banning of the BBC's so called documentary was wrong. But did you consider who organised the screening in the Australian Parliament? Groups backed by some left leaning backers who tend to oppose the ruling party with no objectivity. It is hard to take their arguments seriously.

            • @Krishg: Having seen that documentary myself, I think there was plenty of reason to not have such a visiting "dignitary" welcomed to this country.

              • +2

@0FoxGiven: That underlines the problem with the documentary. It was made into a propaganda by only speaking one side of the arguments and those which couldn't pass the test of law. Remember that the accusations were made when Modi was not the prime minister and the investigations were carried out when the current opposition was in power. In fact, the courts ruled the accusers paraded in the documentary as liers.

                • +2

@Krishg: And the court also let the rapists and killers out on "good behaviour" after which they were garlanded and welcomed. This by the way wont even happen in a banana republic. And the other day the courts slammed Delhi police for deliberately trying to frame an individual for his role in riots after bailing him out. Trust Indian courts and police, investigations and forensics at your own peril.

              • @0FoxGiven: That documentary is not worth the reel it's recorded on.. biased and full of lies.. it's your loss if you make your opinion based on such BS.

                • @dealman: Lol sure. And I guess you believe the nonsense being peddled on the Indian news media outlets and the propaganda movies that are coming out.

            • @Krishg: And what exactly is the problem with left leaning people may I ask? You want this country to be ruled by right wing nut jobs?

              • +1

@dealsucker: No problem at all with left leaning people for me but the problem is turned into a left vs right. In other words, they are opposing Modi for no other reasons than being right leaning. Also, the politics in India is not really rational as you may want to think.

                • +1

@Krishg: Oh so being a right leaning fascist is okay?

                  • +1

@dealsucker: Did I say that? What is your basis to call him fascist other than the propaganda materials you may have seen?

                    • @Krishg: Well I have seen the documentary. And I am quite up to date with news from India. And I have enough brain cells to distinguish facts vs propaganda.

                      • @dealsucker: It's upto each on what they want to believe but the power of media and social media is incredible. Keep in mind the Cambridge Analytica/Facebook saga.

                        • @Krishg: What has Cambridge Analytica/Facebook got to do with riots? We know people died, from both sides. What exactly is your argument?

                          • +1

@dealsucker: Quite simply put, what you may be reading may not be all there. They are curated, in a lot of cases, for specific target audiences. News in India is a lot more than what you can claim to be news from India.

I will stop it here. It is not my intention to take on any individual for their choices and opinions but am just expressing my own.

                      • +5

@dealhunter52: Press freedom index is a joke. They rank Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya has having more press freedom. How can a country that chops off your hands as a legal form of punishment or execute on saying anything that is remotely religous blasphemy have more press freedom?

There are over 10,000 news publications in different languages in India and 300 news channels, the same news channels that comically have 20 people on one screen shouting over each other.

In actual fact economic growth is much better with the BJP than previous 70 years of Congress rule that was steeped with nepotism and corruption and dynastic politics. You only have to look at all the infrastructure projects going on in India, the new highways, railways and metro systems being built simultaneously. You only have to look at the next level digital infrastructure that allows the Government to pay welfare to hundreds of millions of people on the poverty line, cutting out the corrupt state government middlemen (UPI). Ironically, India came close to becoming a Dictatorship under Congress rule. Remember that with economic growth comes gentrification in thought, philosophy and ideals. The BJP, being as pragmatic as they are will eventually also adopt less populist rhetoric (the only reason they do so now is purely for votes).

Control of judiciary? India is one of the few places where the Judiciary is self-sustaining. Only the Supreme Court can appoint judges in State and Federal Courts, and of course itself, unlike the US and Australia where the Government decides on the next judges to sit on the highest court of the land.

Where the majority is being attacked by minority. Wonderful, isn't it?

                        • @RSmith: That's what you get when you have state controlled media. Distortion of facts and state propaganda.

                          • +2

@dealhunter52: State controlled? Media in India is out of control.

                            • @RSmith: You would think so, but World Press Freedom Index disagrees with you.

                              • @dealhunter52: Lol. Where Afghanistan is ahead of India. Bravo.

                                • @RSmith: Amazing isn't it. Who would have believed that their media have more freedom to criticize govt than Modi's India? Truth is stranger than fiction.

                                  https://tolonews.com/

                                  • @dealhunter52: Of course. The West has brought freedom and democracy to the people of Afghanistan from Taliban.

The truth is that West can't digest the rise of India and is attacking through every means.

                                    • @RSmith: Knowing how anti-west Indians are, even though they love to live in west rather than in India, I retract my upvote for the deal.

                                      • @dealhunter52: West allows separatist movements to thrive under the garb of freedom of expression.

                                        India can go to hell.

                                        Amen.

                                        • @RSmith: Spoken like a true Modi-Bhakt. Thanks for revealing your true identity.

                      • @dealhunter52: Come on.. As if the past governing leaders/ parties in India had better democratic values and they were not divisive and built the social fabric. lol.

You need to know more about India pre-2014. The country is run in a much better way under the current government. Ask the people who live there. Wait.. you don't need to ask them. The election results speak for themselves. If a democracy of over a billion people chooses their leaders, who are we to argue here, ay? If the past governments were so stellar, they wouldn't lose elections for almost a decade straight.

                        • +1

@virhlpool: If you fight election based on religion of course you're going to win in rural illiterate India especially in UP & Bihar. Morons will vote for promise of religious place of worship rather than asking new Universities or colleges.

Educated South India understand this better and doing much better without BJP/Modi.

                          • @dealhunter52: Previous parties fought elections based on casteism and community appeasement, yet nothing for development. At least the current govt has some good job on development and economy. Some will hate it no matter how well any party performs.

                  • @dealsucker:

Oh so being a right leaning fascist is okay?

The issue is, neither is ok but opposing any side without objectivity is even worse. Winning election on merits should be the goal if they intend to govern the country. As simple as that! The parties so small that they can't be called even proper opposition should have better reasons to oppose a ruling party or a leader who have a very clear majority and mandate of over one billion people, I would say.

If i needed 7 seats I'd take one for a drive. specs on the engine seem punchy enough (especially 380nm) and it is a decent looker. would probably wait for full reviews to come out from the likes of carexpert and chasing cars before signing up for one, though. and would need to commit to keep it for at least the whole 7 years of the warranty period, as resale is likely to be junk.

    • Your comment made me look at the specs for say something like the Izuzu MUX….which is 140kw and 430nm. So I think this Mahindra has a few more kw's but a bit less nm.

      • Yes, but this is petrol, the MUX is diesel (and comes with all the fun AdBlue/DPF issues that plague most modern diesels). for most urban drivers, petrol is king.

  • +1

Everytime i have seen these its confused me with some type of Renault as they completely stole the headlight idea (possibly renault stole it from somebody else but having 2 cars in the current market with the same headlight design is rather strange - https://www.topgear.com/sites/default/files/2022/03/1-Renaul…)

  • +1

    What’s a good 7 seater PHEV?

    • -1

PHEV is just a gimmick..either pure ev or old fashioned ICE cars.

      • +1

I own one EV. I save so much. Hence I want the PHEV. Free local driving and 1K+ range for long trips.

  • +1

Pretty good value, drive it for 3 to 5 years relatively worry free then sell it with some warranty remaining should be easy.

    • +2

resale on these cars… ha ha..thats a good joke.

  • +3

At dealership: 'Sir, what is your best price?'

    • +9

      "last" price

      • My last price was the last time I gave you a price. Do you mean my final price?

        • But the dealership down the road was cheaper than that!

So why didn't you buy from them?

          I didn't like them

    • +3

      brb with google gift cards

      • +4

Sir your car has been hacked and we need to transfer money from your bank account to secure your car right away

    • is that the dealer asking the customer??

  • +2

Looks like a fun car (judging by the attitudes towards the newcomer, looks like it'll be an even better bargain at 1-2 years old used). I'd pick it over the Haval's, MG's and chery's if I were looking for something in a petrol

  • -6

it's basically just a bunch of different parts put together incompletely by a bunch of Indians working on $1 a day wage to vaguely fit the definition of a car. Is it cheap: Yes. Should you trust your life with it: No.

Mahindra XUV700 achieved a 5 star rating for adult occupant protection and 4 stars for child occupant protection in 2021 Global NCAP tests (identical to Latin NCAP 2013). The vehicle tested was the most basic safety specification, fitted with two airbags, ABS and ISOFIX anchorages.[8] The model presented low risk of injury to most body regions in the frontal impact and passed regulatory ECE95 side impact requirements.

In June 2022 the XUV700 achieved a Global NCAP Safer Choice award for performance of its optional Electronic Stability Control and its pedestrian protection performance in adult and child head impacts and adult lower leg impact according to UN127 regulation.[9]

      • NCAP testing has become overly obsessed with crash prevention features, I don't deny they should consider them in the safety rating of a car, but these days you have cars built worse than tin sheds but have high ratings because of the sensors they have shoved in. Just something to consider regarding these tests. I really hope they reshape the testing method to allow for a crash prevention section and a crash protection section.

      • +2

It is not the full fat Euro NCAP and therefore not as strict either.

      • +2

Who cares? Why as a driver am I supposed to give a shit about pedestrian protection? That's not a selling point, it's clutching at straws. Also, optional ESC? LMAO! That's been a mandatory requirement for new cars since 2012 in the US & 2014 in the UK.

  • +12

Not a deal, uninspiring cheap indian crapbox selling at rrp. If simply being cheaper than its much more competent competitors makes this a deal, why not post mahindras entire product lineup lmao

  • +13

So what are the savings again? Website says $1000 dollars off for a mediocre vehicle with expensive replacement parts? Pretty sure 90% of upvoters are indian because they will upvote anything indian.

    • +11

Definitely who the upvoters are. One said this brand is going to bring down toyota and mazda 🤣

      • +2

Exactly! I cant even call it delusion, you have to be stupid.

    • +4

Agreed where is the deal here? Shameless marketing much.

    • True bcoz they know how good this brand is with its history, failure rates…extensive testing on the worst roads for more hours that can fit in this box

  • +5

lol this piece of crap will probably last 6 months at best on AU roads.

    • +21

If it can last on indian roads and weather, it can last anywhere in the world.

      • Indian roads are very slow lol.

        • +8

          I didn't know roads moved.

          • -3

@NoApostrophePlurals: Yea they move very slow. I mean the road speed there.

            • +5

@Vancomycin 1000mg: Do you know how stupid your comment is? You do realise it's a massive country, with both garbage potholed roads, unsealed roads and also new smooth national high speed highways?

Generally the more commonly used roads are much worse than here though, hence Hotwheels comment that if it can last there, it'll last here. Our Aussie roads are garbage. Councils unwilling to fix giant potholes, Sydney's roads are some of the worst first world roads I've driven on and I've driven in 30 different countries.

            • @Vancomycin 1000mg: But no speed limits though 🤪. They move slowly as well as in top speeds.

Can you go beyond 110kmph legally in Australia in most roads?? Very few roads got 120/130kmph even if u got a Lambo or ferrari you can’t drive beyond that!!

        • +1

Been there recently. They now have freeways. They call them expressways and my driver just floored the accelerator. No speed limit enforcement nothing. If you go to rural towns roads are full of deep pot holes.

  • +2

I think scorpio is a better suv than this. It's a ladder chasis proper 4wd.

  • It is nice to see a nice SUV non Made in China!
If I had to guess, better QAC, safety features that work and no privacy issues with the car having internal mic.

Looking forward for it to be a hit here, Toyota and Nissan prices among their car features have been nothing but a joke.

  • +1

I read that as giveaway and then got sad :(.

  • +7

Lmao wheres the deal, cheap indian shitbox selling at rrp thats way overpriced for what it is

  • BuT ItS NoT A tEsLa

    • +1

But you can still charge the 12v battery every night, if that satisfies you

  • -1

Wow I've never heard of a Mahindra

  • +4

Say no to cheap SUVs. More garbage on the road = bad for the environment. Use small hatchbacks, public transport and bicycle people.

    • Can a small hatchback go off-road though?

      • +9

Can most of the cheap shit SUVs go off road though?

People who buy SUVs for off roading dont even look at this garbage posted above.
