@King Tightarse: @King Tightarse, am not supporting Mahindra by any means(have downvoted this) but find your comment about Aussies loving quality a bit funny.

MG is the top seller in so many segments. Chery Omoda sold 1200 cars since march.

Are these quality cars? They are poor quality in my humble opinion. A lot of Aussies buy cheap stuff and especially cars. MG is cheap. It has not been on our shores long enough to prove that it's reliable.

@axlfan: I think its more a case of being cynical about new brands though and will err on the side of caution usually. I am talking about reasonable quality here not some german like obsession with perfection and also relative to the price point. We have seen some real stinkers before (Lada, Proton etc) that just fall to bits.,
MG is a strange case. They are among the cheapest in their price point so they sell on that, but they also invoke nearly a century of memories of the British brand MG, which was a brilliant move by their Chinese owners. I wonder if they would have anywhere near the same success branded as Chery or any of the other new Chinese brands?

              • @King Tightarse: @King Tightarse - Ok point taken about MG but I cannot fathom Chery selling 1200 units of the Omoda 5 (decent car but shit brand the last time they were here). LOL.

Anyways as many said, lets wait and watch. Who knows that Mahindra may have done one good thing for the 7 seater SUV segment. Start a price war which will benefit consumers.

@axlfan: Agree and it's not just Australia but most people in general buy to their budget even though they would love to buy Mercedes…!!

So the arguments or discussion in this thread supposed to be about which other car in mid SUV segment provide similar features and at what price in Australia at what warranty, waiting time and parts availabilities but it instead concentrated around where is it made .. 😂

              • @SydBoy: No mate you are over sensitive bout that side of it. I think some people realize that Suzuki manufactures in India and imports to Australia but if you took a poll most people would say 'no idea' or 'haven't heard of it' if you asked them about Mahindra.
It is about building brand-trust in the marketplace.

                • @King Tightarse: The comparison between Suzuki and Mahindra isn't equal as Suzuki enters Australian market in 1980 while Mahindra in 2007.while Suzuki offered number of models, the Mahindra was limited to two models targeting regional areas… So obviously many in urban Australia don't know anything about Mahindra.

However I agree brand building is important and key to that requires more than 1 dealership covering Sydney and Melbourne market as large population exist in these two cities and obviously provide after sales services with easy access to part but that can easily achieved by increasing sales in my opinion.

                  • @SydBoy: Yeah, when I mentioned Suzuki, that was in relation to being built in India because you said you thought a lot of the arguments here were "concentrated around where is it made" but I wanted to say that people are not worried about that so much, as shown in Suzukis case, if they can believe in the brand and believe in the quality control.
It's not India. It is Mahindra. Very few people here know that brand, so far

    • Dude, Are you seriously comparing a Landcruiser to this?? Landcruiser is 30 times better. :)

  • Looks like a knock-off Ford.

  • This is worse than a Lada.

Your car is Japanese / German. Your vodka is Russian. Your pizza is Italian. Your kebab is Turkish. Your democracy is Greek. Your coffee is Brazilian. Your movies are American. Your tea is Tamil. Your shirt is Indian. Your oil is Saudi. Your numbers are Arabic and your letters are Latin. Almost everything else in your house is made in China. And you worry about this car being chinese made?

    • This poorly made excuse for a car is the only thing on that list that will ignite and burn itself to the ground though.
