Apple iPad Pro 11 Inch 3rd Gen 512GB Wi-Fi + Cellular Space Grey $1373.60 (RRP $1899) @ David Jones

600

Looks like David Jones are clearing out old iPad Pro stocks leading into the EOFY. Extra 20% of already reduced 11 inch 3rd Gen and 12.9 inch 5th Gen models.

JBHIFI is still selling this one for $1899, so I’d say this deal is a bargain!

Still a very powerful device with the M1 chip. This screen size is perfect for those that want something compact and portable.

Limited stock at a few stores only!

Time to price match against JB or Officeworks

    • Unfortunately Officeworks doesn’t sell the 11 inch 3rd and 12.9 5th Gen models anymore :(

Just wanted to remind everyone that this is still not best deal compared to past deals. Unless price match with officeworks and use gift cards.

Well I just want to remind everyone of vancomycin resistant enterococcus

      • Won’t someone please think of the children!

An M1 is plenty for an iPad. Seriously overpowered. You can’t tell the diff with an M2 in the current gen, and otherwise it is the same.

    • But. But. But. Hover for the pen!!! :P

I have an M1 11" iPad Pro and it's awesome. 4th gen is a bit of a downer because of the price increase. I think this is largely due to Apple realising it was cheaper to buy a 128gb 11" Pro, rather than the extra coin on a 256gb iPad Air (price ladder went 64gb Air/128gb Pro/256gb Air). Until the price increase, it was a no brainer to get the promotion display, 128gb storage and M1 chip for that middle price point. Hard to justify the extra spend these days on the Pro compared to the Air with the same chipset (personally I dont think promotion and faceid is worth the uplift).

      • Yes should have stated I have a M2 4th gen IPP. It’s a fantastic machine, but you dont Need to worry about FOMO and aren’t missing too much.
Daughter went the M1 Air path, very happy with and used heavily. You do notice the better screen in the IPP.

  • ELI5, why would anyone want a $1800/$1200 tablet?

    • ELI5 from my viewpoint? It's cheaper and more portable than a laptop, and does 90% of what I need from a laptop.

When I bought my iPad Pro 11 3rd gen, it was $1199 (IIRC) for the 128gb wifi. iPad Air at the time was cheaper than that if I got the 64, but more expensive than the pro if I got the 256, and given that 128 is fine for my use, I got that. IIRC 4th gen air was a bit cheaper but 5th gen air base is still $999, so thats the baseline.

The model above is 512gb with cellular, so it is not their volume seller and probably the reason its being run out.

Cue comment about rising cost of living, apple price hikes, whatever else is contributing to cost of living, as the reason why iPad's in general have increased in price.

      • Interesting. To me a tablet is the jack of all trades, master of none.

You can get a decent TV cheaper for watching movies/TV, and you already have a slightly smaller and probably better quality screen in your pocket for portability.

You can get a decent lightweight laptop for around this price which will be more versatile and have a real keyboard.

Anything gaming related you can get a Switch or a console for a fraction of this price.

I dunno, I just find tablet pricing vs benefits off the charts, I'm constantly surprised what people will pay for a high end Apple or Samsung tablet.

        • This is no doubt a high quality product, but I'm inclined to agree. I have the iPad Air (2020 with A14 chip) and it is hugely overpowered for anything I can throw at it. I can only imagine what the M1 and M2 iPads are like.

        • I guess it depends on your use case.
TV's arent very portable for planes. iPhone is frequently too small for long term viewing (movies, etc beyond YouTube and other short form).
I already have a work laptop which does me for personal emails (fine under AUP with my employer), and I dont need to type much more than a URL on my tablet.
I dont game, but I challenge you on the cost of a console for "a fraction of this price" once second controller and games are included.
I do use my iPad for zoom calls and other occasional second screen duties for my work laptop. It's also great for offloading/managing GoPro footage through the lightning connector (which was 'only' usb-c on the air at the time I bought the pro).

          Each to their own.

          • @camr00: Yeah look, it's not a criticism - I just genuinely find it hard to understand the value proposition.

Re consoles, wouldn't you also need controllers and games for a tablet for that to be fair?

Zoom calls I can definitely see the point - you have a handy screen + camera that is highly portable.

            • @caitsith01: Dont get me wrong, I think the recent uplift of price will make me review the investment I make in a tablet in the future (or more specifically, which tier I buy in at), but I guess the balance is that I use this every day, and it supports my life (personal and work) in ways my phone cant do.
I used to buy iPad mini's with cellular connectivity when the uplift was $129. Nowadays the uplift (for me) of $250 is excessive so I'm back to hotspot. Flip side is that I know pilots rely on cellular for always on access to maps and charts. Each to their own.
I think with anything in life we can get away with buying a lot less, but the balance is whether we can afford it, and what it means to us from a personal point of view as to the value and enjoyment we place on it. Games consoles being a good example of that. I dont game, but I get the enjoyment and downtime it provides which is valuable to others.

    • bruh, Ipads are just for kids to play Roblox on
some ppl think Apple is worth this coin though

    • Why would anyone an M2 Max? If you need it and can afford it, you'll probably buy it.

  • Anyone have any luck with JB price match? They won't honour the additional 20% off as they count it as a coupon.
    Looking at this model https://www.davidjones.com/product/apple-ipad-pro-129-inch-5…

    • It can't be added to cart meaning it's sold out.

  • Have this 256GB iPad, why would you need 512GB of storage is beyond me

    • +1

I purchased a 128GB and wonder the same thing.
