One Way Flights: Brisbane↔Tokyo from $299, Brisbane↔Osaka from $279, Brisbane↔Seoul from $289 @ Jetstar

710

Jetstar is launching direct routes from Brisbane to Tokyo, Osaka and Seoul and is doing a good sale for 48 hours only.

This is super convenient for those who is travelling to from Brisbane to Tokyo and wants to return from Osaka direct back to Brisbane. Previously they had a transfer and also used Gold Coast airports.

Unfortunately I have already bought my tickets from Qantas and missed out. I would have jumped on this if it happened two months earlier.

Sharing so people who was on the same ship as me don't miss out!

Note that these will be on the A321neo LR, narrowbody flights. Although they are brand new aircraft and very comfortable - it's still a narrowbody for a ~9hr flight.

    • +1

Doesn't look like it at the moment - searching for flights shows them on the 787 (JQ9/10 BNENRTBNE and JQ23/24 BNEKIXBNE)

    • +16

They're not using the neo's for the new Japan routes, they're using those for Bali and redeploying those 787's for the Japan routes (and dropping the OOL-NRT service).

      • +1

Ah, my mistake. Thanks for the correction!

      • +5

To add to this all pre-booked flights OOL-NRT have just been changed to BNE-NRT for any lurkers out there. No contact from jetstar.

        • +2

I'm sure you can ask to be moved to OOL-CNS-NRT at no extra charge.

        • +1

From which date would OOL one be cancelled?

        • +1

Oh wow, what a way to find out that my flights have moved to a different airport haha. I guess I'll be arranging different transport.

My exact flights are part of the sale but they won't refund the difference in price and changing the booking dates doesn't give me the sale prices.

      • Do you happen to know why there cancelling the Gold Coast to Narita service?

      • +2

        (and dropping the OOL-NRT service).

DAMN! That explains why I haven't seen it pop up recently.

I loved this route because they'd fly Melbourne to OOL in the B787 which meant flying out from the T2 Intl terminal instead of the awful T4 terminal. It was also the quickest flight for JQ to NRT out of MEL. At least Brisbane beats Cairns which I've found to be an awful experience each time.

  • should give an extra kudos because there's xmas period deals. At least late November early December.

    • Ah is that the date range?

I went looking for August/September and could only find multi flights routes

      • +1

idk about the exact date range. I just searched late November to late December. Got a return, late Nov - mid Dec for about $620 all up.
Quite a bit more if have to go a few days before xmas and come back after new years though if you're flexible you can find a cheap December holiday.

Unfortunately I have already bought my tickets from Qantas and missed out.

I'd say that's very fortunate for you and you don't have to worry about flights cancellations as much.

    • +2

Just flew out to and back from Osaka with Jetstar, no issues with flight cancellations. Every single flight, including the domestic legs were on time.

      • +6

People here have confirmation bias with Jetstar. If one flight gets delayed that is all they remember. They forget about the other 9 flights which ran on time as if those flights never happened.

        • +8

Jetstar have the worst on-time performance in ALL categories
          https://www.bitre.gov.au/statistics/aviation/otp_annual

          • +2

@Blitzfx: Almost as likely to get a Qantas flight canceled as a Jetstar - % of flights canceled (Qantas = 10% vs Jetstar = 11.9%)

            • @Khunaus: And:
              Arrivals on time: 6.1% worse
              Departures on time: 9.2% worse

People should take into consideration these compounding risks when booking cheap tickets with Jetstar

  • JS CEO apologised for their poor performance but blamed external factors. Why other budget airlines can do so much better then?

    One Way Flights…

Ironic given their recent cancellation record

I know it's become a bit of a running joke around OzBargain about Jetstar, but I would avoid using them wherever possible, unless you can build a couple of days buffer on either side of your trip for inevitable cancelations and delays.

I experienced it first hand myself last Thursday on the return leg from Singapore to Melbourne. 9pm flight cancelled with 8 hours notice. It was a real faff trying to organize alternatives. Fortunately I booked via Qantas points and they were able to put me on to an 8pm flight via Sydney. People who had booked through Jetstar were booked onto another flight 24 hours later.

I will definitely be making a huge effort to avoid Jetstar in future.

    • +6

Yeah, i've flown with them many many times and generally had good experiences, but the last 2 times in a row my flights were delayed by hours and hours, one of which lost us an entire day of a weekend trip away which really soured the experience.

A co-worker flew the same weekend to Bali from Melb with Jetstar and theirs was delayed by 4 hours, then cancelled completely, told no more flights available direct that day, so they were able to get one with a stopover in Sydney. They landed in sydney and then the next flight out from there was ALSO delayed, and THEN cancelled, forcing them to stay the night and fly out the next morning. Just ludicrous.

Prior so those 2 delayed flights, their reputation was pretty tarnished for me when I made a huge mistake once and booked my own name twice on a booking to Japan instead of me and a friend, idiot me didn't realise till we got to the airport. I was incredibly polite to the customer service staff and she just looks at me after I explained what happened and with the smuggest grin and attitude goes "You just cost yourself $2000". This was for the seat change fees, difference in airfare etc etc. My friend's mum was with us and she asked what the cost would be to cancel the seat completely and re-book it, $1500. So not only was she incredibly rude and showed no compassion whatsoever, they were trying to charge me $500 more than the lowest option. I expected the mistake to be costly, but not for them to purposely make it the most expensive option possible.

I just can't do it anymore, I can't handle the anxiety of wondering if my holiday will be cut short, if ill be waiting hours at the airport, stuck paying for hotels, and that knowing they don't give a shit about their customers when a mistake is made. There's zero leeway. My friend has been waiting since 2021 for the refund they promised him for his flight during covid times too. They are a complete joke. The discount just isn't worth the risk.

      • That's APPALLING. Probably too late but worth a social media post. Pity you didn't video the interaction. I don't like it but it seems the only way to get any action from Qantas or Jetfail these days. They don't give a fig about the major disruptions and inconveniences simply because there are no significant sanctions. Minister Catherine King needs to give them a bollocking and encourage/incentivise more competition. Friends have booked upcoming domestic flights and have had them cancelled then rescheduled with ZERO regard to any connecting flights or suggested alternatives. Wouldn't touch either of them with a bargepole, although Virgin is currently no better I gather.

        • I usually book with one of my 5 Amex cards and hit the chargeback button for the inconveniences. Even if the chargeback is rejected, Jetstar gets charged admin and a white collar employee will be spending hours loosing more $$.

        • Social Media complaints do absolutely nothing. You get the same sorry not sorry messages and in DM's they repeat that ad nauseam. I've had a few issues with Jetstar myself and now and wife and I refuse to use them.

        • Zero regard to Jetstar connecting flights or zero regard to another airlines ‘connecting’ flight?

          • @Eeples: Their own in this case. I've seen a Jetfail spokesperson claiming their cancellation and "rescheduling" problems relate to parts and available replacement planes. That argument doesn't wash when they're opening new flights and routes. Airline departure and arrival times are monitored for obvious reasons.

        • I was so distraught over the whole thing i never even made a complaint, i literally still remember the womans name, but it was in 2016.

You know i checked out of curiousity, if you put the exact name twice it blocks you from being able to book it, its only because i selected one with Miss and the other Ms that it let me, and it shouldnt! It should bloody warn people to double check.

          • @Elision: Yep. A proper inquiry would find they and other airlines use ridiculous and unconscionable "rules" to cancel bookings without refunds. I've read many complaints to that effect. They hope people won't follow up or will eventually give up.

            https://www.aviationcomplaints.gov.au/airline-customer-servi…

It's a small % of the flights taken but their behaviour is beyond the pale. Iirc in the USA (or maybe Europe?) they instituted fines for refunds not given within a certain timeframe for covid-related cancellations. It's way past time our domestic airlines were similarly "incentivised".

          • @Elision: It might not be what you want to hear, while I feel sorry for your experience but you should ALWAYS double check every details in the booking before you pay. The staff's attitude was wrong but the reason why it cost more to change it probably is because it cost more manpower to do the change and you and I know how expensive Aussie wages are, for that reason, it is easier for you to just cancel and rebook. Not saying I am supporting Jetstar but seriously why they are cheap ? The savings need to come from somewhere, were you enticed to book them because they are cheap in the first place ? Yes I agree we need more competition to bring in better services, Virgin used to be the one we threatened to take the business to from Jetstar and Qantas and look at their service quality now, just as crap ! Until we see more competitions, we are stuck with them.

            • @sistermay: 10 minutes of work. The reason they do it has nothing to do with costs and everything to do with management mentality, profits - which are a big part of management remuneration packages, and a lack of financial disincentive due to lazy government.

Good prices for December school holidays and using JR before the price hike.

    • Isnt JR hike in Oct?

      • I think if you buy it, you have 90 days to use it.

  • Wish they would launch direct fights from Sydney.

    • agreed. why are they going through the 3rd busiest city in australia.

      • Probably don't have enough landing rights.

  • Shots fired at the crappy Virgin route to Japan.

I'm no J* fan but this has to beat a 737 with a stop off in CNS. TBF I've never flown with J* so maybe not.

The only reason I ever I fly Jetstar was the direct ool-nrt route. Might as well fly qantas if I have to make the trek to bne.

    • Same, 9 OOL-NRT trips (1 via Cairns which suuuucks) now it's a 4 hour train to Brisbane or paying parking.

  • -1

Just dont do it guys youll be disapointed

  • I'd only go jetstar for direct flights, haven't flown in 5 years, these comments are worrying…

  • +2

I’ve flown OOL-NRT the last few times even though I live in Brisbane just because it’s direct. I welcome this change :-). I’ve booked tickets for the snow next Feb for $566 return (plus bags), what a steal.
