haven't had any issues with 99bikes previously

  • I`m new here and noob in gift cards world, but i would like to know if its possible to buy physical cards and, on UGC website redeem all of them and make an online purchase. Thanks

    • That question makes no sense.

The Ultimate gift cards pictured in this deal are prepaid Visa gift cards that can only be used at a defined list of participating retailers. A participating may offer one (or more) of the following redemption options:

      • Instore
      • Online
      • Exchange (where you swap part or the full available balance of an Ultimate gift card for a digital gift card through the Ultimate gift card website)

You need to check the webpage for the Ultimate gift card(s) you are interested in, because different participating retailers accept Ultimate gift cards in different ways. For example:

      • Temple & Webster is an exchange-only partner. You cannot use Ultimate gift cards directly on the Temple & Webster website.

      • JB Hi-Fi accepts Ultimate gift cards instore and online at jbhifi.com.au. You cannot go to the Ultimate gift card website and exchange your Ultimate gift card for a JB Hi-Fi gift card.

      • EB Games accepts Ultimate gift cards instore and also lets you exchange an Ultimate gift card for an EB Games gift card on the Ultimate gift card website. You cannot use Ultimate gift cards directly on the EB Games website.

If you opt to use an Ultimate gift card instore or online at a participating retailer (where accepted), you need to use it like any other Visa card.

      • For instore purchases, you need to tell the staff member you want to use a Visa card. If your Ultimate gift card does not have sufficient balance to cover the cost of the transaction, you will need to ask to split payments (and hopefully the participating retailer is able to do that and is happy to do that).

      • For online purchases, you use your Ultimate gift card much like any other Visa card. Add the item(s) you want into your cart, and when you get to the payment screen, enter the Ultimate gift card's details (card number, expiry, CVV2) into the credit/debit card section of the online checkout. Do not enter its details into a gift card section of an online because, because Ultimate gift cards operate on the Visa network and therefore behave like Visa cards. I am not aware of any participating retailers of the Ultimate gift card scheme letting anyone split payments between multiple Visa cards, so keep that in mind; some participating retailers will have workarounds to this limitation (e.g. JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys), whereas other participating retailers will not have any workarounds (e.g. Kogan).

I will also note that the Ultimate gift cards pictured in this deal can also be added to Apple Pay, Google Wallet and Samsung Wallet. If a participating retailer accepts this as a payment method, you can store an Ultimate gift card on one of these mobile wallets and then redeem it from there (much like how you would use a Visa debit or credit card from a mobile wallet).

To be clear, you only need to use the Ultimate gift card website if you want to see the latest list of participating retailers, how each participating retailer accepts Ultimate gift cards, as well as find the link to exchange your Ultimate gift card for a digital gift card from a participating retailer (where a participating retailer allows this).

  • does woolies give reward points for gift card purchases?

    • According to the Everyday Rewards terms and conditions, you will only earn points if it is part of a deal that specifically advertises you will earn points on the purchase of that gift card.

In reality, you will not earn any Everyday Rewards points on the purchase of a gift card unless:

      • There is a deal specifically advertising you will earn Everyday Rewards points when you purchase a specific gift card.

      • An Everyday Rewards booster bugs out and accidentally gives you points. (This had previously cropped up on some gift cards, but I am not aware of any Ultimate gift cards that currently do this.)

Thanks Wookie - I will skip woolies then. Coles at least gives flybuys points for giftcards.

Boy oh boy! We are in a recession. Woolworths Ashfield has not ran out of $100 Gift cards after 3 hours of shop opening.

SNAPPED 2K worth of GC this morning before work, but I need another 1.3k. I really doubt if I can get them this afternoon.

  • Does anyone know how many gift cards you can redeem online at The Good Guys? I got them to price match and they sent me through the link to pay, she said you can only use up to 2 cards to pay?

    • +1

      Read this FAQ.

I will note that if you decide to go instore to convert your Ultimate gift cards into TGG gift cards, you should be okay to use multiple Ultimate gift cards to pay for one TGG gift card.

Alternatively, you can go to a TGG store and ask them to price match, then pay instore using as many Ultimate gift cards as you want.

      • +1

        Thanks Wookie

If it helps I went to my local store and was able to purchase a $650 TGG gift card using 7 Ultimate gift cards.
One of the staff members overheard what I wanted to do and said no you can't, however the young staff member I was talking to said it should work lets try it anyway.

        • +1

          no you can't

          Not The Good Guys.

  • I feel like a goose….but I've read the FAQ's and still a bit confused.

So if I have $1000+ purchase to make ONLINE with JB hifi, i cant use 10 x $100 Ultimate HIM GC to make the purchase? I would need to go to a store and buy a JB GC with the Ultimate Him cards first? And hope that this is ok etc?And staff don't say no?

    Thanks for your help.

    • +1

if I have $1000+ purchase to make ONLINE with JB hifi, i cant use 10 x $100 Ultimate HIM GC to make the purchase?

      That is correct.

This is because the JB Hi-Fi website does not let split payment across multiple Visa cards.

I would need to go to a store and buy a JB GC with the Ultimate Him cards first? And hope that this is ok etc?And staff don't say no?

That is one workaround. You may have staff that will refuse to let you use an Ultimate gift card to pay for a JB Hi-Fi gift card, so keep that in mind.

Alternatively, you could try to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card using an Ultimate gift card via the JB Hi-Fi website, but the fraud prevention tool used on the JB Hi-Fi website (Riskified) will sometimes flag such purchases. Additonally, if you are able to purchase two JB Hi-Fi gift cards in two separate transactions using two different Ultimate gift cards in the same calendar day, any attempts to purchase a third JB Hi-Fi gift card using another Ultimate gift card on the same calendar day will always be declined.

Alternatively, you can purchase the item(s) in the physical JB Hi-Fi store and use multiple Ultimate gift cards without needing to worry about purchasing JB Hi-Fi gift cards… assuming the JB Hi-Fi store has it in stock!

Thanks so much. You're a gentleman and a scholar! 😂👍

      • I am finding the limit has been 2 purchases too. Do u know a way around it for example using a VPN or using a different device and purchasing it and using some other email address or contact number? Also i have been able before but i was able to combine 2 JB GC to one bigger one but that option seems to now have disappeared? Do u know if that is the case or is there a way around that too?

        • Do u know a way around it for example using a VPN or using a different device and purchasing it and using some other email address or contact number?

I have not tried this recently, but the safest bet would be to attempt a purchase on a different device using a different IP address and using different contact details.

Alternatively, wait until the next day and you can push through two more purchases.

Also i have been able before but i was able to combine 2 JB GC to one bigger one but that option seems to now have disappeared?

That is against the JB Hi-Fi gift card terms and conditions.

I know that this was removed from their website around the end of 2020, but someone (and I cannot find the comment after ten minutes of searching) suggested late last year you could purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card on the JB Hi-Fi website by redeeming one or more JB Hi-Fi gift cards and an Ultimate gift card in the same online transaction. For example, if you want to purchase a $200 JB Hi-Fi gift card online, apparently you could redeem a $100 JB Hi-Fi gift card and a $100 Ultimate Home gift card. I have no idea if that works now though…

I went in store today and the person at the counter initially said that it wasn’t possible to buy JB Gift cards with UGC gift cards. I told them I’ve done it several times before. They contacted their manager and the manager said it was fine and she knew exactly what type of card it was. YMMV.

Alternatively you could just say that you want to purchase something on the JB website which won’t allow split transaction. They might be more willing to do it then.

  • I just bought some HIM cards from Woolies an hour ago.

Trying to exchange them on the website, and I'm getting this message:

Sorry this card number has not been recognised. Please make sure to see if the card number is valid and that the card has been activated from the retailer of purchase.

When I go to check balance, I am getting this message:

We were unable to process your information. Please try again.

    Anyone experience this?

    • I bought $5.1K of cards today and your comment made me nervous. I picked a card at random and checked the balance and it shows as $100. I'm not going to check the other 50 cards.

      • All 7 of mine are coming up with the same error. $650 worth of gift cards

EDIT: I just went back to Woolies - and they said there’s nothing they can do and I need to wait 48hrs

I asked - what happens if the cards still aren’t activated after 48hrs. They said nothing they can do and I have to chase it up with the card issuer. That’s just BS!!!!!

        • +1

Ideally, Woolies should resolve this for you. Happened with me in Coles and all I did was made a call to their support team. They asked me to send image of unused card and my receipt. It took a week but then they asked me to visit same Coles store and get my refund.
PS - support team here had sent an email to Coles store to refund my money.

I believe the process should be similar, try talking to store manager.

    • What gift card are you trying to exchange them for? UGC gift cards can only be exchanged at some stores through the UGC website

      • EB Games.

But I don’t even get to the part that allows me to choose.

It comes up with this message after I enter card number:

Sorry this card number has not been recognised. Please make sure to see if the card number is valid and that the card has been activated from the retailer of purchase.

        • UPDATE:

I managed to exchange the card for EB Games by changing the expiry date to 12/29.

Previously I was putting in 06/26 - and got the error.

However —— checking BALANCE still doesn’t work. I get this error whenever I try to check balance and/or try to “Add” the card to my account:

We were unable to process your information. Please try again.

Also, trying to add the card to Apple Pay fails as well.

          • @proudwanderer: I bought mine in seven transactions and I've checked the balance of one card from each transaction and they each show as $100.

            • @SteveB00: I bought all 7 of mine together in one transaction - as in I scanned all 7 and then paid for all in one go.

          • @proudwanderer: Have you tried both balance check websites? Both websites below can check the balance of Ultimate gift cards.

When you use the second website, make sure you use 12/29 as the expiry date, because that is the expiry date used for physical Ultimate gift cards in regards to purchases or adding to a mobile wallet. 12/29 is not the expiry date for the funds loaded on your gift card (which is three years from the date of purchase).

  • So no problem stacking this at JB right?

    • No problem. I just used 27 cards in store one hour ago. The lady at the counter was a bit bored, other than that no issue at all. Plus not really busy so during the processing of 27 cards one more staff was summoned to take care of just 2 other customers.

  • great

  • I’d really like sone discounted iTunes cards anyway to use this deal for that or am I going to run into the you can’t buy a gift card with a gift card issue

  • Is Ultimate Everyone excluded from this deal?

  • Is it possible to use multiple ultimate cards for Kogan purchases?

    • +1

      No

(You can scroll though the linked comment and replies to see we could not figure out a way to do split payments.)

  • Thanks OP. No issues getting them processed in store at JB HiFi.

  • If these are converted to JBHifi gift cards; is it better to get one fat JB card (multiple ultimates become one JB gift card) or do it separately?

Want to get an item in store (preorder) and wondering if they will refuse multiple smaller denomination JB gift cards for the transaction and I need to pool all the ultimates into one big JB gift card.

    • +1

It's probably easier to just convert your Ultimates to JB at 1:1 rather than trying to combine then as you would then have to do split payments for the JB gift card. Asking for split payments for a gift card could raise suspicions and the cashier may then ask you what type of cards you're using to pay for the gift card and deny your request to use an Ultimate card all together.

If you follow some common sense guidelines of using multiple gift cards you shouldn't have an issue with using multiple cards (JB gift cards, Ultimate cards or a mix of the two) to pay your pre-order.

      Guidelines include:
      - Go at a quiet time
      - Have all your cards removed from the packets and pre-scratched so they're ready to swipe
      - Know the exact value/denomination of each card
      - Tell the staff upfront that you're going to split the transaction across x number of cards or you've got a mix of x jb hifi gift cards and x ultimate cards.

As an aside - If you have to go in store to do the pre-order anyway why are you bothering to convert from Ultimate to JB GC? You could just split the pre-order payment across the Ultimate cards directly and skip the conversion to JB. If you have a balance left on any of the Ultimate cards after the pre-order, you could then convert that to a JB GC for future use either online or in store.

  • So is the easiest approach to bring multiple "ultimate" gift cards into JB for a single purchase? JB did a price match on a switch for me today by phone but I had to pay online first then click and collect. What is the work around there? Thanks kents

    • +3

easiest is to price match in store then pay with your ultimate gift cards

      • Cheers mang I'll try that next time.

  • -1

How does buying a $1009 Jb gift card save time? If you still have to spend time processing the gift cards to buy the $1000 Jb gift card? Only to come back and buy what you were gonna buy anyway?

  • Hey everyone, is anyone having issues buying JB gift card and paying with the ultimate gift cards? I've done it before a few months back with no issues, but its coming up as ''issue processing payment. try or use another method''

  • Noob question, I just bought the ultimate him gift card and I want to redeem it for Kayo, what do I do?

  • ahhh crap I got this message. When trying to register the card on myprepaidcentre.com.au with the PCN

"Your card activation failed. Please try again."

Anyone know if the card still works?

    • I am concerned by that message.

Is the gift card actually activated? You can check this by:

If you can see the balance and/or are able to exchange for an e-gift card from a participating retailer, your gift card is fine and it is likely that there is something wrong with the registration process.

      • Cardbalance.com.au just hangs when I enter the card number. No new screen. No loading. No errors.

Luckily I kept the packaging otherwise I would have forgotten if it’s $50 or $100. Will try JB tomorrow as a swipe and buy as I can’t even add it to Apple Pay.

Would try the website but I have hit my 2 gift card purchase limit 🤦🏽‍♂️

        • Hmmm it really does sound like your gift card failed to activate correctly… or something has really gone wrong with Blackhawk Network’s systems. Fingers crossed it pans out well at JB Hi-Fi tomorrow!

Btw, on the back of the physical gift card, it will say the denomination of your gift card to the right of the activation barcode and the PIN.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: ahh yes - the physical card does say that. I wish the apple pay card showed the same thing.

The card did work in store. But wont work on the blackhawk network websites to check balances or register.

Thanks! I just picked up AirPods Pro for $299.65 using $300 of gift cards and Officeworks price-beating this deal.

  • Can the him gift cards without jb printed on them still be used at jb?

  • I've been waiting for the bike I mentioned earlier in this thread to arrive from interstate, but this morning I went to 99 Bikes and swiped 53 UGCs for a total saving of $525. Thanks again Scrooge McDeal!

    • I have done this twice at 99 bikes (not sure the total gift cards but the second time I broke their machine), give them a heads up over the phone so you don't come in when the have a queue of people :P
