Very useful camera - plug in a microSD card and you have a 24/7 recording camera with no subscription fees for cheap. We use one for a security camera and one for a baby monitor.
Only annoyance is it's a barrel plug and not USB-C or MicroUSB like the old Kasa cameras.

    • +4

Does it connect to the wifi and you can remote monitor for free?

      • +1

        Yes & Yes.

      • +1

Yes and you can remote monitor using the App on your phone. I'm still trying to see if I can remote monitor via a browser somehow so I can do it anywhere without my phone, but not sure about that

        • I haven't found a web portal - thankfully I use a Macbook Pro M1 which can run the app natively too. Although it crashes a bit on the Macbook.

        • +10

It has RTSP, so if you set a password in the app, you can use VLC to do rtsp://ip:port/stream1

          • @allewell: yeah, also works with home assistant integration or RTSP frigate etc

          • @allewell: Awesome! Thx so much mate!

      • I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.biyee.onvi… with a wireshark vpn on my home network, or , the tapo app if wireguard server is off

      • even better than this you can use RTSP with zoneminder and get AI detection for (dogs cars people etc) free and store all your data in your own free AWS cloud instance with these cameras if you're a bit tech savvy https://zoneminder.com/features/

        • +1

          This is amazing.
can zoneminder run on my qnap or a docker container there in?

    • +1

With the microSD, can you playback through the app?

      • yep and its pretty responsive too.

      • yes, you can have it record motion only too.

    • How do you find it as a baby monitor? Will it send an alert when it detects noise/crying etc?

      • yep it does, but personally I have the detection turned off

      • works perfectly fine

      • also use it as a baby monitor and works perfectly fine

I even brought it for a few trips to set up in hotel with a portable router

    • And that you need their app to configure it - no web UI

    • Just bought the c225, for a baby monitor,$95 at JB.

I went for the slightly more expensive one, not just higher Res camera, but a night light specific for close range as well.

But was very close to getting this camera. Love it so far.

    • I used something like this on my c200
      https://www.amazon.com.au/Farsense-Adapter-Converter-Support…

NB: thats a really expensive example, i'm sure i paid less at jaycar or wherever.

  • +2

Just got this camera too and its really good. Horizontal/Vertical panning can be a big slow if you're doing it manually using the trackpad on the app but other than that, no gripes at all really.

    • Tempted to upgrade from my Imou Ranger 2 (2MP) to see the difference in 3MP.

      • +1

i have one imou too but then i prefer to have all cam in one app so i stuck with imou :(
i actually kind of need another one right now hint hint

    • +3

You can change the number of degrees it moves per pan input, to speed it up.
Also saving commonly used positions is handy and it moves very quickly between them.

  • +1

This was posted a couple of weeks ago and people suggested it would be good to use as a baby monitor so I bought one for that use. Unfortunately when I lock my iPhone, the audio from the camera stops so the only way to use it as a baby monitor is to constantly have your phone unlocked with the screen on which is pretty annoying at night and inefficient

    • That is correct, but we used this as a baby monitor since birth and found we didn't need to constantly hear the baby, because he was either in our room where we will wake up when he cries, or in his room which is close enough for us to hear anyway.

    • +1

One option would be to use it in conjunction with an audio-only baby monitor?

    • +1

Yep. i have an android tablet that i keen on all night using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.biyee.onvi…
and it's been our baby monitor for 3 years now.

and i set the volume of the tablet appropriately

      • I do similar but with a laptop on an rtsp feed

  • +7

Its same price at Officeworks, JB Hifi and other places. So you can also use your other discounts.

  • +1

Love this, use it as a pet monitor while we are at work, super easy to set up and its actually quite usable without paying the added subscription fees.

  • Ah bloody hell i bought the c200 last month for $59 too 😭

    • Bought 3 of the C200's back in October. Was curious what the difference is between the two models.

      • +1

Slightly higher resolution (1080p vs 2K) and can use 256gb card. The difference is very marginal.

        • wishing these cameras would have 4K and for the night time it shows better quality too

          • +1

@prankster: 4K bandwidth is probably too much. You need a solid 25mbps to stream this and you will need a big sdcard to store even store a days worth of data. 1 minute of 4K video will take a couple of hundred MB. A 64gb card will fill up in less than 10 hours.

2K is a middle ground compromise.

            • @KaTst3R: ah gotcha, i just have 64GB cards for the C200 i have and i've just put this in the baby/toddler room and continuous record from 7pm to 7am just so i can see what happens if anything lol but yeah its on continuous loop/record and with the C200 its only utilising 1080p

        • Ok thanks for that.

    • I bought the c200 last week for that price. Im going to return it and buy this one instead.

      • you buy it from amazon? if so how easy is the return process?

i can't return mine, i've already 3M it and put it in the kids room lol

        • I initiated the return. Just put my reason as “not satisfied”. I did choose account credit to make it less annoying to them. They approved it, just need to send it back.

          • @digitalbath: how does the sending back work? they send you a box to put the camera back in and you go to post office to drop off?

            • +1

@prankster: Usually they email you a prepaid postage label.

            • +1

@prankster: You can choose parcelpoint or auspost drop offs

  • Do note that the tilt down range is much lower compared to tilt up. So if you place the camera closer to the baby then you might have trouble tilting down to cover the entire area. Alternatively you could mount the camera upside down and invert the picture.

    • +1

I have the equivalent Eufy which is much more expensive, which has the same range issue you describe. These cameras are kinda intended to be mounted upside down, and you can get 3d printed stands to mount them in via Thingiverse. Some people have monetised this via ebay/etsy etc.

  • +1

Yea, TP-Link cameras are quite good compared to the other ones (Reolink and Wyze) being used in the household.

  • Could be a proper replacement vs my Dafang!

  • Thank you OP. Out of topic, what do you think about the outdoor equivalent? C320?

    • C320 is fixed, no panning. Is also older, c210 is newer

    • I have the C320ws and the quality is terrific. Night vision is really good too, especially if used in conjunction with a spotlight/solar LED sensor light.

      • C320ws can accept 256gb of SD storage vs 128gb for C210.

But yes, thanks @Vater Woods, because I didn't realize it doesn't pan. Damn.

      • @Twirlypiglet, What's the product ID for Spotlight/Solar LED Sensor light? It sounds like a good addition to this. I am fairly new with this sort of thing.

        Thanks for your review.

      • I also have C320WS + the $40 LED sensor light from bunnings.

But I believe C210 and C320WS both are 2k quality and both accept 256GB Micro sd card.

        • Sorry sorry I am confusing everyone.

What I meant is the outdoor equivalent of C210 is C320.

Previously there is C310, which according to this page can only accept 128gb. https://www.tp-link.com/au/home-networking/cloud-camera/tapo…

I don't know how we ended up talking about C210 lol.

So yes, C320ws can take 256gb. I think that's the model I could get for my outdoor cam. My Swann cam is crap.

  • Anyone successfully uses these together with a Synology NAS?

    • +2

Yes all 3 of my Tapo's set up very easily wity synology.

      • Thank you. Might be time to retire my vimtag cameras that force me to use their app, as there is no rtsp support.

      • 3x Tapo, that’d require an additional camera license for Synology, yes?

    • I tried my three C200s with my QNAP and they also worked

  • +1

Bough two c100 and then few months later bought c210 via amazon uk and it’s used as outdoor (under cover of course). Still working like a champ. Even bloody got wet accidentally when i was using my pressure washer once. Still working as it should. Got two more c320ws for my parents and i can add it in my app ( share device) and it’s really handy. Recommend it.

  • Title says 2K but the link goes to the 3MP one though?

    • +1

      2K = 3MP video resolution.

Edit: actually it appears to be more like 4MP.

      2048 x 1536 = 3MP

  • +1

I am wondering if I can use this as a cheap camera to watch my 3D prints (rather than eg building an octoprint setup even though I know that gives a lot more functionality). Sounds like it will stream off my WIFI out of the box which is good. Has anyone done similar?

I was looking at the specs on the Amazon site and it has "Batteries ‎1 Lithium Ion batteries required." but also has
    "Power Source ‎Corded Electric
    Voltage ‎220 Volts
    Wattage ‎5 watts"

So does it need permanent 240V, or do you recharge the battery every so often?

    • Would also like to know

    • I have the C200 and it needs permanent 240V.

    • +1

I have used a USB-5V boost to 9v with a barrel adapter for the C200s and it works fine.

    • No battery. It needs to be permanently corded via its DC adapter plugged into 240v.

    • Can someone recommend a similar one, but battery powered? There is no power connection where I want to install it.

      • +1

Probably a reolink with solar panel

  • Does this work with Siri and Apple HomeKit?

  • +2

I was deciding between TP link vs Xiaomi C300 as an internal home security camera. The one deciding factor that which made me buy a Xiaomi C300 is free rolling 7 day cloud storage for any movement detection 10 second clips which could come in handy if the entire camera and sdcard are removed in a house break in.

Other than that, I only risk President Xi has videos of me butt naked walking around my living hall. But every security cam has that risk of being hacked anyway.

    • How do you like the app experience with C300?

      • It uses the Xiaomi Home app which is also used for my Robovac so im kinda into the ecosystem already.

Pretty solid so far. Setup was super easy. Just scan QR code and lets go. I never had any drop outs, no crashing etc. There are tons of customisation option for the camera like what sort of motion detection, night mode, recording routine, etc. Streaming is very smooth, I could easily take a look live or historical video at work. I could also use the app to communicate with family members who are near the camera at home so that is a plus. The app is nothing fancy, it works as intended.

The only downside is that i get tons of notification for my living room camera whenever i walk past it, there is a 30min wait time before next trigger. You can shut it off during certain time of the day but im lazy to customise.

  • How would you go about mounting these? Previous Wi fi cameras I've used always have the tripod screw in the bottom which this doesn't appear to have.

    • +2

I 3D printed some for mine

      There's quite a range of options - https://www.thingiverse.com/search?q=tapo+c200&page=1&type=t…

      • Looks like I'll need to buy a 3D printer as well now. Cheers mate.

        • +1

You can 3D print at your local library for a small fee per hour. UNSW has a 3D printer available to public for free use, if you manage to book a time slot.

    • I super glued something like these to mine
      https://www.ebay.com/itm/404301628238

      taddaa- tripod screw hole

    • It comes with a wall bracket that you can screw into the wall

  • Micro SD cards are still on sale here as well - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/781516

  • Bought some vstar cams from their website, has human AI detection, Crying detection, smoke alarm detection ti your phone via the app. 5 X optical zoom + 5 digital. Similar price. They are made in China but haven't had a problem with them other than one is outside and the birds set off the smoke alarm notification.

    • birds on fire?

  • +1

Is there anyway for it to interact with other smart devices like smart plugs or smart lights that aren't tapo. or maybe tapo?

Most annoying thing I find about this sort of product is the lack of this ability. If a person is detected I'd like it to be able to activate a smart plug with a floodlight. For some reason this feature is often left out

  • Will this connect to 5ghz wifi?
I've run into issues with my google wifi in the past with devices only operating at 2.4ghz and I have to do a tedious work around to get things connected.

    • pretty sure these are 2.4ghz only

  • Discount over

  • Dawww, I thought about it too long.

    Sold out.

    • +1

I just ordered one from office works for click n collect. Brisbane.

  • +2

Office Works has free 2 hr delivery in SA - same price $52.

    • Bought Two from Office Works, click and collect. Local store a stone's throw away, not as convenient as Amazon, but after procrastinating, Amazon was sold out

  • It's back in stock again and I just got one delivery tomorrow

    • Still in stock at Amazon. Picked up earlier from OW already, however, so will set up when home after work.

Was trying to decide between this C210 v2 or the C225 ($95)
