These are pretty bad - most of the Wavlink range is (I can't think of any that really stand out as a good buy). It's the cheap brand that jaycar/jaycar resellers have for a reason (cheap product, high margin, this sale price would still give them about a 20% profit margin from memory of how they would price things).

Somehow this one isn't linked to https://www.amazon.com.au/Extender-Wireless-Repeater-Functio… which shows the 3/5 star rating across ~150 reviews. Idk how amazon works, but i'd avoid this device, even for $17.

What would you recommend? I'm looking to get one for the upper level of my house.

      • A proper wired Acess Point

    • Also looking for one, had a tp-link before but the extended signal felt like dial up speed. Do you have any recommendations?

Extenders are rubbish. If they connect to the main router on a weak signal, then they just extend the weak signal.
Mesh are much better, and in particular: wired mesh.

Yep, OR wire up one or more Access Points.

          You'll never go back.

2 x Ubiquiti APs in my house - never an issue ever. Even have about 10M+ range around my house for the patio, in the garden etc. Best option.

It's all going to depend on the house setup, positioning, things that block signal, etc. If your issue is it's actually too far away, then placing extenders can work, but if the issue is interference or lots of metal/water/other things that block signals, you're better of going the route of ethernet over power/powerline and then just having another wifi router that plugs into the EoP/Powerline device. A wifi extender will have the same issues that your wifi router does if it's not just range, and it won't make a bad signal good, it will just repeat a bad signal (only getting 1 bar where you set up the extender or have constant drop-outs? well you're just going to extend that same 1 bar coverage/drop-outs issue, but you'll be even more confused by it due to your laptop now telling you that you have full coverage).

If you're in your own home and can run cables through the ceiling, that will always be the best option, but if you're in a rental or just cbf doing that, so long as the wiring in your house is OK, the EoP/Powerline setup will be your best bet for a reliable/fast connection.

https://www.amazon.com.au/TP-Link-TL-WA850RE-300Mbps-Univers… for something similar to what this wavlink does, this isn't bad. I'm not the greatest fan of TP-Link but these seem to work fine, so long as the issue isn't interference from other devices or things like metal/water in between the router and the extender.

As mentioned above, a mesh setup will do you well (and preferrable wired).

        • Thank you! I’m just getting a dead zone in one of the bedrooms, I assume it’s just too far away (far back of house), I’ll check it out.

        • Hey lulzenberg, bit of stalking here because I can't PM you. Where do you get your English Walnut Fruit extract from? I am looking for some for my pre like you suggested

          • @knobbs: Hahaha wow, that must have been a bit ago now. There use to be someone selling it on amazon, i have a feeling it's the same people selling it on ebay now (search English Walnut 10:1 Extract) as the packaging looks pretty similar, but they seem to only offer it for 2kg atm, could be worth asking for a smaller/sample purchase. If it is the same people, it did work. It use to be a lot easier to find, but I can't even see it on alibaba these days. I haven't purchased it in a while as the last bulk amount i bought and mixed up will probably last well beyond whenever the next TGA ban wave comes in.
