        • Probably because it not x86, but I don’t think it really matters these days. VM gets running on everything in the end.

        • M1 Max only has 10 CPU cores, not 32. Ten is still pretty good, though!

From my perspective, the main issue is that Rosetta doesn't work for VMs. Quote: "Rosetta doesn’t support the bootstrapping or installation of Intel Linux distributions on Mac computers with Apple silicon using the Virtualization framework." (from https://developer.apple.com/documentation/virtualization/run…).

If you can't run X86 VMs, that essentially limits you to Linux ARM (mostly OK, but won't run X86 docker containers) and Windows ARM (very few commercial apps will run)

  • Oof, paid a hell of a lot more for this last year - killer deal!

  • I would buy it, if I had a job which involved video editing

I'm tempted just for music alone, tho I bought a decent 1k PC laptop late last year.

This would be good if it was a tax deduction at least lol

  • What’s an actual use case for this machine that would use all of the specs across cpu, gpu, and ram?

    • Music production for sure, and video editing, photography etc

      • Animator
      • Motion graphic designer
      • Archviz artist
      • Editor
      • Texture artist
      • Unreal Game designer
Just a handful of roles that require maxed out CPU,GPU & RAM
    • +3

      2 or more chrome tabs.

    • Running Amazon.com

Building your own ChatGPT v4 model every few hours.

      Compiling Linux every 10 seconds.

    • AfterEffects, it’ll consume as much RAM and disc space as it can get. The disc cache runs for all time, you need to manually empty it or else it’ll eventually use all 4TB.

  • +3

So tempting but over spec’d for what I actually need…maybe😬 I think I am better off getting the latest model with 32gig, 1tb for 4.2k minus education pricing minus 5% discounted gift cards. Close enough to this price and I get 2 more years of supported OS updates?

Can anyone convince me otherwise 🤣

    • +3

This is actually a crazy deal for the 16-inch given the specs.

It's very unlikely that the M1 models will stop getting OS updates anytime soon lol even if it does there's always workarounds.

    • +5

By the time you need to worry about OS patching we'll all be wearing Apple's Vision pro's and eating ass anyway.

      • Is eating ass the killer application for VR? That's a hard pass for me.

        • There's a top and a bottom. You my friend are a top.

    • I doubt you get all that in the latest model for 3k, and the upgrades from what I've seen are slim.

You probably don't need more than you mentioned, tho an extra 1TB of space is pretty useful.

    • This deal is better because you'll have higher resale value whenever you next upgrade (be that in 1, 2, 5 years). In other words, over-speccing now for similar price will pay dividends when you need to sell it second hand.

  • -2

yeah still rather have the m2 versions of this.

  • +1

Bought the 14, wanted one to have multiple VMs running at the same time. Thanks a lot!

  • Great deal. But I can hardly afford my house mortgage repayment now

  • Frick, I didn’t line up the money for this for another six weeks. Hope these are still this price then. 64GB/4TB would be mint..

  • Is it refurbished or new factory sealed box?

    • Brand New

  • +1

I need to apply a credit card and spend the money to get some cash back, I need to do it now,

  • +5

Great deal, have had the 64GB 4TB M1 Max 16 for about 2 years and it has been the best computer I have every used. Completely ruined other laptops for me. Can't see getting any windows laptop in the near future again.

    • +3

I say this as someone that never understood the appeal of Macs, the moment I got an air, i realised what a waste of time anything else is. These things are just pure quality.

      • Same here. I only ever used Windows machines and tried a mac once or twice in the Intel days. There was less incentive to switch back then but now with Apple silicon the experience is just so much better on macs compared to a winntel system

  • +2

This level of discounting means the M3 on TSMC 3nm is going to blow everything away

    • +1

Maybe. More likely Apple still has a supply of M1 Max chips they need to dispose of.

Most likely cpu uplift from M3 Max would be around 45% to 50% with comparable price increase compared to these M1 models.

      • -1

CPU uplift is not the story

M3 Max with 128GB/192GB RAM will be the only consumer level hardware that can run and train enterprise sized AI models

And because NVIDIA removed NVLink from the 4090, Apple will takeover the prosumer AI space

        • Too bad it will cost 20K plus just to upgrade the 16GB of RAM to 128.

    • +1

possibly but not 100% rtx 3090ti was $1000 at the last deal and when they see 4090 price and other 40 series performance. now even 3070ti is over $1k

  • I was literally about to buy the:
    14" M2
    10-Core CPU
    16-Core GPU
    16GB Unified Memory
    512GB SSD Storage¹

    should I buy this instead?

  • Daaaaaamn! What a bargain on the 16"!!

  • Any good credit cards to apply for to use this deal as a purchase with?

    • This deal will be finished by the time you have a credit card arrive 😂

  • Damn, those specs seems killer, I wish i was mac user.

  • +3

Just snagged the 16". For those with a company - get this - its a good deal and a tax benefit - temporary full expensing ends 30 June 2023. So you should be able to write this off entirely provided it arrives before 30 June. Now I just hope they ship the 16" out tomorrow (I'm in Perth) - c'mon Mwave!

    • Based on the info, sounds like you need to be a business owner to use this method?

      • Yes.

      • His comment quite literally says "for those with a company"

        • -1

Well It's a bit ambiguous. With a company could mean you either own the company or maybe work for a company.

    • do you have to pay the Transit Cover for perth delivery?

      • No, you don't have to. you can deselect the option.

        • Yeah I just noticed that sneaky checkbox :)

    • +1

It's not signed into law yet, but the 20k instant asset writeoff is in the 23-24 budget… https://www.ato.gov.au/General/New-legislation/In-detail/Direct-taxes/Small-Business-Support---$20,000-instant-asset-write-off/

  • Good deal!!! Just bought a 14 inch. I have the 16 inch and its a bit heavy.

  • +1

    When I paid 3.6k for a 2021 16 inch 512gb M1 Pro :-( - This deal is amazing

  • This or the 15k mba?

    • +4

15k doesnt sound like much of a bargain

      • +1

        lmao 15" *

    • I've been thinking the same thing myself.
      I was thinking about getting a 24gbram 1tb ssd macbook air 15

  • +6

Consider the battery life penalty on smaller 14" M1 Max models. Even with light use you may see 15-20% battery drain per hour on them.

  • +1

Just curious, what is the gaming capabilities of these??

    • Not bad, but not many games available right now. Native AAA games you can count on one hand.

  • crazy price, ordered one to replace my base model macbook pro 14.

  • +2

Damn, bought the 16” M1 Max 1tb 32gb for $3,750 a couple months back. Obviously I have no complaints at all but gee that 16” is a heck of a deal. Imma get off OzBargain before I regret this too long 😭

    • +1

Me too. Do I need more storage and RAM though? No chance. It's already overkill.

  • Damn, bought the 16" M1 64GB 1TB for $4.5k in April.

    $4k for the 4TB is a steal.

    Great machine for the price.

  • I was gonna jump on this…. until…. HDMI 2.0 … Bummer =(

  • Thanks OP you boss. I was literally in the Apple store earlier today and was deadset on getting the MBA 15" (with extra RAM and storage) via the Education pricing. But then perchance stumbled across this deal and it's literally a no brainer for basically the same price. Essentially the same weight (extra 0.2 lbs) compared to the 15" but it's so so much more powerful and with all the extra ports for external monitors. Looking forward to it being my go-to machine for the next 10 years.

  • This is an insane deal as normal price for one of these specced out would easily be $5k+ for the 14 inch

  • Amazing deal, picked up the 16" - 4TB SSD and 64gb for 4k! An equivalent Studio from Apple refurb is 4.95k, not portable and doesn't have a mini XDR display included. The resale on the laptop should be better in the future as well. Thanks so much OP!

  • Thanks OP - couldn’t have been better timing my iMac finally stopped working after 10 years. Got the 14” and also a tiny bit of cash back via Cashrewards

  • +1

Is this good for future-proofing when it comes to external displays and wifi?

    (M2 offers HDMI2.1 & 8k video + the newer WiFi 6e)?

    • +2

I think the tradeoff is more than worth it when you account for the large increase in GPU performance and the huge amount of RAM and SSD for the price….

I've never been in a situation where my WiFi speed was a limiting factor to my workflow. If you need HDMI 2.1/8k video you will know it, most users of these laptops are going to be more interested in a quality 5K or 6K display rather than trying to connect it to an 8K TV.

      • Awesome, thanks for the reply - very helpful!

Do you think the increased RAM, GPU & SSD will last much more longer than the base M2?

It's almost 4x in each spec catepgry which is crazy!

        • +1

It really depends how you use it. The extra RAM won't be of much use unless your workflow requires it. Moving to 32GB is of some use to me, 64GB is unnecessary and I won't really see any benefit from that. The big deal for me is the storage, it's something you can always make use of and the less I need to rely on external drives the better. The extra GPU will be useful as well and it outperforms my 27" 5k iMac that is only a few years old with a 5700XT and 16GB VRAM by a significant margin.

If you have a light workload I don't think there will be much difference between either of them, but I usually sell my laptops after a few years and feel this will retain a lot more value than the base come sale time especially with the included storage.

    • For the lack of HDMI 2.1, there is a resolution to this issue already, kindly refer to my comment below for more details

  • Thanks for posting this deal! Picked up the 16'' one! Was contemplating of getting the M2 pro but this is pretty darn good deal!

  • Guess if I just want a larger screen and just chrome based app use, just get the new mac air 15"?

too bad only option is 8gb ram

  • How’s the battery life on a 14” M1 Max?

    • Best in the industry.
Think of what the great models (Lenovo Yoga, ASUS, ThinkPad, etc etc) then add an extra +50% to +100%. Huge Battery. Plus when you're not doing anything, those Cortex-A73 like small cores are just sipping battery. And when you need the performance, those Desktop PC Intel 13th-gen like large cores are rushing to get the work done. Overall, best performance for day to day use, mixed with best battery life.

Wtf, this MacBook is cooked. I would be better if it was m1 pro chip

  • Thanks OP! I think I must’ve ordered the last Space Grey 14”, because the option to buy changed to ‘Preorder’ after I’d paid for mine. Phew!

  • +1

My order is marked as shipped on 16 inch macbook thanks op

    • shipped already?! so only the 14 inch models are CTO

      • They’re all CTO. The comment about a 4 week ETA was baseless in this scenario.

  • +2

    Space Grey sold out

  • +2

For those concerned about the absence of HDMI 2.1, which prevents the output of 8K/60Hz or 4K/120Hz natively, there is now a straightforward solution available. By getting an adapter, you can easily achieve 4K/120Hz or 8K/60Hz output through the Thunderbolt port. I have personally tested this method and can confirm its success.

  • +1

Looks like the space grey 14" is now back to normal price of $6k+.

  • How much can you claim through a business?

I don't have a business, but my mother does. She hasn't bought a new laptop for a decade.

It doesn't really benefit me, I was planning to start an online business but if I buy this before the end of June I can't claim it next year?

Can you claim GST if you go overseas, is that 30 days?

Thinking of ways to save, haha.

    Choices!

Anyone know what cancellation or return fees?

But I assume you could easily get your money back on marketplace if I chose not to keep it

  • +1

Thanks, I was needing a new laptop :) I just got my tracking number, should be on its way soon :)

    • 14 inch or 16 inch one ?

    • Got the tracking number too, 14 inch space grey

  • Got the tracking number for my 14 inch one

  • NM

  • 14in silver and 16in space grey are both on "pre-order" now - not sure what that does to delivery ETA.

  • Can't wait for any credit card or anything, just straight take my money from debit card

  • +5

    Hi All,

We have have the Apple 14" & 16" coming in by today or this Friday 23rd June.

They have very limited qty left; as the time of this writing the 14" Silver we only got 12% of the discount stock left

and the 16" Space Grey we have 44% of the discount stock left for sale.

the 14" Space Grey is all sold out. It might come back later on during the day or so… depending on if customers cancel (change of mind).

You can check the stock levels here: https://www.mwave.com.au/wavey-deals

    Cheers,
    Mwave 🌊

    • No more 14 left?

      • +2

Looks like both 14" have sold out now. If customer cancel (sometimes they have change their mind)… it will come back in-stock. But that could be only a brief moment because someone might snag it straight away.

We only have 16" left with 35% of the discount stock left.

        • Hey mate what’s the 16” allocation left?

        • please let me know if anyone cancel a 14 :)
