    • Hi team, the silver 14” and 16” are able to be added to the cart.. it’s not 30th June yet.. wondering if the discount will be offered again on the stock that is able to be ordered?

  • +1

Just got dispatched email for a 14” this morning. 👍

  • Just got the 14 inch dispatched email 😃👍

  • Purchased 14" Silver a couple of hours ago, already got dispatch email. Excellent deal.

  • it makes me sad so many of these machines are used for the odd email and browsing as a lot of people get it at work with their allowance because it's the most expensive laptop they can get

  • I didn't plan on spending any money today but the 16 inch model was too good to pass up for my DJ'ing with Serato. What's a good usb hub to use with the 16 inch as I need to use a USB a connection for Serato.

  • -5

I wouldn't be surprised if people are buying these laptops to resell them, I assume you'd get 4K easy

    That's $850 profit.

    -
Why neg me? People do this all the time off OzBargain or anywhere LOL

    • +1

I don't think so. Who has a lazy 3-4k in this environment. It will be people who want to Salary Sacrifice or Tax write-off..

      • Plenty of people, $850 profit for $3160 outlay is great.

You'd probably get more than 4k.

I know what you mean tho, but it's low risk buying incase you change your mind aswell.

  • +1

I got the 16" M1 Max 1TB 32GB not long ago from TGG for $3899 so $100 for another 3TB is cracking value.

    • +1

you also get extra 32gb of ram for that $100

      • Oh wow, I completely missed that! Far out, cracking deal.

  • I just ordered this one https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/macbook-pr… i feel its a fair deal

    • What state are you in ? I cannot see any left in Vic

      • just getting it delivered

        • hmm don't even get the option in Vic.. its all greyed out

          • @whoistheg: damn, mine should come today, im in qld bne

  • 14" OOS

    • +1

      why? its 32gb not 64gb and 1TB not 4TB….. you save $100

      • I posted this before I saw your post.

        • +2

all good, shit didnt realise you were the same dude, was pretending to be ozb police this morning

          • @SS625: Haha nah, you did well. Absolute no-brainer for $100 more.

  • +1

If anyone plans to cancel a 14-in order, can you please send me a message first so I can order it?

    I'd appreciate it. Thank you!

    • +1

      Same but after @Adelv

  • I’d buy the 16” but don’t have enough room on the CC :-(

    • +2

Probably a blessing I’m disguise because it isn’t smart to max out credit cards on these kinds of purchases.

      • It’s no biggy as I’m getting a large tax rebate back but it’ll take a few days to clear for another large purchase. I wish it was instant.

  • I got my brand new 14" M1 Pro 16gb 1TB MacBook Pro last month for about $2,700 so I'm not that mad about this deal, maybe a little

  • +1

For anyone else wondering about the lead times on their 14in pre-order, I contacted their sales, and just got a response saying they should arrive in the next 1-2 business days, then another day for processing at the warehouse.

    • Mine was dispatched. Ordered yesterday 18:47

    • +1

      you might get a lemon

      • Liz Lemon?

  • This page is showing 22% of 16" are left: https://www.mwave.com.au/groupbuy
14" models are sold out and no longer show the discount.

14" spacegray also sold much quicker than the silver yesterday for those curious. Grey was like ~50% ahead.

  • This is a good deal, but damn Apple $1800 to upgrade to 4TB is insane, especially when SSD prices are tanking.

    • +1

I mean… as long as enough people keep throwing money at them willing to pay these prices they have no reason to lower prices. People building pcs piece by piece on the other hand are a bit more picky.

  • +15

I've owned the 14" M1 Max MacBook Pro with 32GB RAM and 2TB SSD since its launch in late 2021 — just a heads up for anyone who is considering getting the 14" M1 Max MBP, it has the worst battery life out of the whole range, due to the increased power consumption of its spec config. Performance-wise, it's a solid work horse.

I typically get around 7 hours of coding/office work before I run out of battery power (lots of Chrome browser usage, Visual Studio Code, Ubuntu virtual machine, Docker containers etc). It's still pretty decent battery life of course, but I do have to monitor my power consumption if I don't have access to a power outlet. If you want to get a 14" MBP, I suggest going for the Pro model (instead of Max) if you want the best possible battery life, and you shouldn't notice much performance difference in most use cases.

16" MBP is obviously best for battery life, but I find it too bulky/heavy when it comes to commuting or travelling.

So I think this is a really good deal, but the specs will be way overkill for most people and you'll also get less battery life.

    • +1

@deadpoet thanks for that. Your workflow is pretty much identical to mine, so good to see I could get most of a workday on battery. I had considered the 16", but when I previously had a intel 16" model for work, I found the size/weight just a bit too awkward to lug about every day.

    • +4

You can have it auto-switch it to “low power mode” when on battery in the settings. Gives a decent boost with very little discernable slowdown at all. Still miles ahead of intel macs and any windows device.

    • for me my 8GB mac m1 mini works surprisingly well for my daily coding workload: I always have dozens of Chrome tabs open / a few docker containers / VS code / other softwares like Teams, Numbers etc… and being super quite&smooth. I found it problematic when using a 16gb 11th intel Win PC.
This deal is really an overkill for 99% people perhaps the reason for huge discount.

      • Your system is most likely swapping to SSD quite regularly when it runs out of RAM — M1 series has a very fast SSD so it's not as noticeable, but you'll probably wear out the SSD much faster with these kinds of workloads.

I wouldn't recommend people get less than 16GB of RAM for coding and Docker; you can technically get away with it for a while but the wear and tear will accumulate fast, and once the SSD dies you're basically screwed since it's soldered on and not a swappable part.

        • Good point you make! It’s a company device so I really don’t care much. Win used to be my main work PC but it’s until I happened to work on iOS project & Mac, I found them all noisy and slow.

I used orbstack instead of docker desktop which is much more lightweight and I can limit its ram usage to 3GB while still being smooth.

    • Thanks for your insight re: battery life

Do you Drive any external monitors with your setup? Just wondering if that is also contributing to the battery drain (as I understand the M1Max can drive up to 4 x external monitors vs 2 x monitors with the M1Pro)

      • +1

No, when I'm on battery power I use only the display on the MBP itself, usually at about 50% brightness or so. The power drain is due to having 40-50 Chrome tabs open (most of them are not active though, I just need ready access to them so that's why I have them available), Docker and Ubuntu virtual machine, plus the occasional Microsoft Teams video calls which also drain a lot of power.

Don't get me wrong, the battery life on the 14" M1 Max MBP is still really good, it's just not as good as that on the rest of the M1 line, including the M1 Pro. As someone else said, it's still leagues better than most Windows laptops.

        • Can you switch to Safari ?
Chrome on macOS is a pile of garbage that's slow, performance hog, and sends your battery life to the nether realm. Use Safari, Firefox, and Brave browser instead.

I think that'll save your laptop, and improve it quiet a bit. You'll have the M1 Max performing like a proper M1 Max

  • Thanks op, snagged a 16", only 2 left!

    • 4% promo stock left, it's selling fast!

  • +1

I don't think anyone's going to cancel their orders, even though I would have personally used this for a workstation. The fact that the battery life is under 10 hours because it's such a powerful unit is pretty unappealing :/

  • Insane deal

  • +2

If this deal doesn’t happen again later I’m going to regret it.

  • 16" is now sold out as well. Damn!

if you are canceling your order, hit me up.

    • where are you located?

      • VIC

  • Can’t wait to receive mine!
P.S: If someone is not going to like their MacBook Pro 16, and I find my new 14-inch too small, I am willing to trade, and I will pay the price difference. Send me a message when you get it . Gold Coast or Brisbane.

    • +1

That's a good idea. I'm in the same boat.
I really really want the 16", it's got the cooler-quieter fans, longer battery life, bigger display, speakers, trackpad and keyboard etc etc.

I had plenty of time to choose, and went with the "worse" 14in model. It's because the 16in is definitely a lot heavier, and larger, and harder to fit into bags etc etc. I think I would regret the ergonomics of the 16in. So it's really a toss up/balance between the two.

      • I would take 14" off someone if they don't want it.

It's tough, 16" screen is much nicer but if you travel the 14" is a better option.

16" is 20% more too, so budget too.

  • Anybody else’s order still on Processing? Paid via PayPal last night and no confirmation that payment has gone through. Really hoping that I still have one allocated!!!

    • Have you tried calling their customer care? I just spoke to someone who was very helpful although I was too late to grab one.
He said he has been on calls since morning about MBP stocks.

    • No update for mine as well

    • Dispatched now, was a bit too eager!

  • Anyone wants to sell their MacBook Pro 14, just let me know, missed it :(

  • +3

I received an email from customer service earlier today, and it sounded like there's a slight possibility they'll release more in the future

I guess it will come down to what kind of numbers they get access to, considering it's been so popular it would make sense for them to sell more if they had more available stock

    • Thanks for sharing Adelv, that's would be brilliant as I missed promo this time.

  • +2

Are they selling these at loss?

  • I'm wondering how much profit they are making. I really don't need this, but bought it anyway. This is gonna be the most expensive laptop I've owned

    • +5

Sounds like you wasted 3k, because if you don't need it you basically wasted money.

  • just got an email macbook pro 14 space grey already on the way, so good deal.

  • If anyone is looking to move theirs on, I'm happy to buy for a reasonable mark up. Please DM.

  • +1

Ordered yesterday at 7:30am, delivered to Sydney CBD this morning at 10:30am. Thanks Mwave!

    • Is it Grey Import, or Australian stock? Anyone know?

      • charger is Australian charger other than that no idea how to say AU stock

      • +2

Seems to be Australian stock, and tbh it doesn't really matter given Apple has international warranty. You get a tax invoice with an ABN and GST component if you want to TRS it.

  • +1

I got my 16inch macbook and i have put it for charge for some reason it is not turning on after pressing power button.
I am also new to mac any tips?

    • +1

      Hold it down maybe

    • charging for last 40 mins still not turning on looks like DOA

      • Hi, is your new 16'' MBP back alive after a while of charging? I saw some comments below and theirs work after charging.

I bought the 16'' too and it is shipped this morning. I am afraid if I had the same issue like yours. Also what is the customer service reply about your MBP DOA? Would you mind shedding some light on this situation? Thank you!

        • I went to the store today and got new one.
Customer service said even though it is Apple product there is small chance for DOA.
They gave me 2 options, one i can send the MBP back to store via post or come to store and get new one on the spot.

          • @MoJ: Did you go to the Apple store or Mwave store? Seems like an Apple store?
I asked my friend in Aus to buy the 16'' and post it to Singapore where I currently live in, can I get the new one if mine were DOA and in Singapore?

  • +1

Hold down the power button for 10 seconds with it plugged in (Touch ID button that’s located in the upper right-hand corner). Then tap it a few times, if no luck could be DOA.

    • +2

charged it for awhile then try again, i had the same problem, the battery is completely drained on delivery.

  • Hopefully some people can test out the battery life on the 14", Incase the deal comes round again.

7-8 hours sounds awful for a 4-6k laptop

    • The battery life is best in class….. There are a billion battery life tests online and on YouTube

It has a 70wh battery. At idle at low brightness it can use a few watts - are you typing documents all day in a dark room 35 hours. Are you watching AppleTV+ movies/content at low/middle brightness full screen 17hrs.

Are you hammering the GPU and CPU at max power draw with your iPad and iPhone charging using the USB-C ports? Less than 2 hours.

      • I hope no one bought this laptop to do anything that you mentioned above other than actually utilize the power of this laptop 😂

        • I would say most people have a mixed workflow? I need the power for short periods of time as required. Not may people are using laptops at full power on battery all the time, that is what my Mac Studio is for.

    • +1

It looks like it's a compromise with the 14" M1 Max config. They use more power (than the M1 Pro) and run hotter, and they don't have the battery capacity and thermal mass of the 16" to compensate. At least that's what I gleaned from watching many videos from youtube "experts" on these two configs.

If you want more battery life with lesser portability, get the 16. If you want better portability and better battery, get a Macbook Air.

There is no perfect solution, just different compromises.

      • True
16" is also more expensive tho

Definitely better if you never travel like me, I'd probably connect the 14" to an external monitor at home.

        • That's what I'll be doing. 95% of the time it'll be docked, so the only issue will be thermals. But the other 5% of the time, the portability will win. And if I get 7-8 hours of battery life doing light stuff (seems reasonable from what I've read), then that'll do.

    • +1

7-8 hours sounds awful for a 4-6k laptop

Higher price ≠ longer battery life

If you want the longest possible battery life get the M1 Pro. The M1 Max generally uses a bit more power due to the extra GPU cores. The M2 Pro has even better battery life.

      • Extra GPU cores should make it more efficient. It would mean they clock lower, while getting higher performance. See PS5 vs XSX.

So might be somewhere in the Mac Settings to reduce M1 Max performance down to M1 Pro levels and get better thermals/noise/battery life.

        • +3

Yeah, that's not how it works here. Apple confirmed to the Verge that the M1 Max uses more power both when idle and when active, so the battery life will indeed be slightly shorter than the M1 Pro.

  • +1

Get my 14 inch today. It doesn’t power up at all…

    • +1

i hve the same problem, spoke to customer care they asked me to come to store on Monday/Tuesday and they will check and provide me new one or refund.
they are expecting more stock today or Monday

      • +2

After 15 mins charge it works now!

      • try holding the power button for a few seconds

    • +5

Leave it plugged in to power for 10-15 minutes. Mine was completely flat when I got it - these look like very old stock. When it eventually charged enough to power, I found it was preloaded with macOS 12.5 (mid 2022 release). Apple usually ships laptops with 50-70% charge.

    • +1

Mine also arrived with a totally flat battery. These Macbooks seem to be really old dusted stock. But tbh I really don't mind, getting Apple Care for it anyway

      • How long is warranty?

      • If you get the yearly it can continue indefinitely. In theory anyway, one year Apple will replace the battery.
