Good deal, but the whole reason that i would get a hori split pad (pro) is to have larger controllers that are more comfortable to grip for long periods, getting the compact version seems redundant to me.

I have these and can comfortably game until the switch battery dies. They are a lot larger and thicker than the joy cons. No idea if the pro's would be even more comfortable but I imagine this is a large hands vs medium/smaller hands thing. People also report the buttons are a lot nicer on the compacts.

    • They're more comfortable than Joy-cons but not as cumbersome as the Pro. It's as if not one size fits all.

Lack of gyro kills it for me :(

      Thanks for your review.

    • And such a Frank and concise review it is. TY

  • These are both great. Prefer the larger one.

  • do these charge and function the same way the Nintendo original ones do?

Don't quote me but I'm pretty sure Hori pads have no batteries and hence only work in hand-held mode.

  • My split pad pro had stick drift out of the box

  • Can I still use gyro controls while attached to the switch if my controllers don't have gyro? since the switch console has a gyro built in

    • I had wondered that too. It seems yes
      https://www.nintendo.com/switch/tech-specs/#oled-section

    • The answer is yes, but also no.

YES, the Switch itself has gyros (as demonstrated in various Labo kits).

NO, because games using the Switch's gyro sensors is entirely dependent on whether the developers decided use those sensors for input.

I suspect that in most cases, the devs would rather not have to bother accounting for potentially conflicting gyro data from the Switch (say it's docked) plus left and right Joy-Cons (say you're holding one in each hand, without a grip), or have to program in conditional input switching based on detecting whether the connected controllers has gyros.

It's easier for most games to simply design controls so that they only expect to get gyro inputs from a single source per player.

Which is why Daemon X Machina, one of the original games the Hori Split Pad was associated with, AFAIK never had working motion controls while using them.
