LG 34" 34WP75C UltraWide 160Hz 2k QHD Curved Monitor [65W USB-C] $544 (Save $255) + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Harvey Norman

320

UPDATE: I bought this today 24/6/23, took it to my aunts. Her desktop pc was under repair so thought I couldn't really use the monitor… plugged in my s22 ultra via usbc and it turned the screen into a monitor! Only 1080p though and had bars… tried apple tablet via usbc, and it works the best! It looks like a normal desktop and works at 2k full ultrawide 100hz!!! It's like having a desktop computer plugged in! Pretty aweseome… also tried plugging in her wireless keyboard and mouse via its little usb receiver into a port on back of monitor, and it works also!! Best of all… you don't even need a desktop computer or laptop to run this monitor amazing… only need a decent supported tablet (tried a lenovo tablet, and it didnt recognise the monitor because i read that it could be because the usb-c port doesn't support displays)!.. Monitors with usbc rock!
Also quality of image is really good and 2x7w speakers can go very loud, only thing is it has like zero base but haven't tried equalizer

Previously…

was looking to surprise my aunty and buy her a decent ultrawide monitor… it was her dream…
so was looking for something that had to be curved ultrawide, atleast 2k, usb-c (because she uses laptops and apple phones etc, hopefully usb-c will be good enough, because the lightning port monitors are much more expensive…) and it had to have a speaker. She wants an inbuilt speaker so it doesn't look messy and there aren't cables everywhere…

All I could find for the last week at or below this price range was the:
-29" Kogan 1080p ips flat ultrawide 75hz with 3watt inbuilt speaker for $189 (at the kogan site)
-34" Kogan 2k VA curved ultrawide 165hz with 3watt inbuilt speaker for $459 (at the kogan site)

I didn't want to pay much more than $460, unless i got way better bang for buck and better quality…

i didnt like the power consumption of the 34"kogan:
Power Consumption Typrical: 115W | Maximum: 120W
Standby Consumption <0.5W

though the 29" Kogan was pretty good:
Power Consumption Typical: 43W, Max: 48W
Standby Consumption ≤0.5W

And the 34" LG was:
Power Consumption
(Typical)
On mode: 48 W (Typical)*
Sleep Mode (Standby Mode): ≤ 0.5 W **
Off Mode: ≤ 0.3 W
The Power Consumption level can be different by operating condition and monitor setting.
* The On mode power consumption is measured with LGE test standard (Full White pattern , Maximum resolution).
** The monitor goes to the Sleep Mode in a couple of minutes(Max 5 minutes).
(taken from LG website, user manual)

So my aunty will like that it will hopefully be much more energy efficient to run than even the kogans and smaller size monitors.

Also heard people leaving reviews having issues with the 34"kogan usb-c support. And the 29" kogan was flatscreen… so this deal on the LG was a little bit more but hopefully will be better quality etc. will see how it turns out.

leave a message in the comments if its worth buying this 34" 2k LG ultrawide monitor…

Thanks

*Note: my aunty mainly uses it for office work, spreadsheets and word documents, and looking at photos for reports and the occasional youtube entertainment etc. And the 160hz will probably only ever be good for the scenario that I stay over her house and bring my gaming pc ><D. The pair of 7watt speakers will hopefully be good quality without spending hundreds more on same size monitor.

    3440 x 1440 is considered 4K?

    • thanks! i got mixed up.. yeah 4k ultrawide would be mega expensive probably… dont mind its not 4k, my aunts not gaming.. anything over 1080p would be fine think

You should also tell that to amd who tried marketing dp2.1 with '4k ultrawide monitors' that weren't 4k.

    Damnt VA panel

    • yeah haha hopefully it doesn't burn in easy

    Epic write up. 👍
This price for a quality LG Display panel with USB-C is pretty decent. No problems with VA if it’s primarily a productivity device.

While I use 4K 16:9 myself (graphic/UX designer) , QHD is excellent for general use, especially in ultra-wide. Don’t think she’ll be disappointed.

I was shopping for some productivity business monitors this month and the best I could find was on MyDeal for some Samsung 27” QHD USB-C for $420 with 8% casback.

    • thanks for the info mate! yeah 2k should be a nice middle ground… really getting tired of looking at the giant 1080p pixels on big screens ><D

Spending so much on a non 4k? Tch tch.

You’re better off getting sitting like this

    And a dock.

    • mmm thats nice… second hand though.. i bought a second hand screen off ebay once… screen had a few long distracting scratches across the screen.. put me off 2nd hand screens since then. but if your lucky enough to get one without a scratched screen.. looks like a really good deal

These are also good, have owned one. Reputable seller, not random second hand.

        • hmm i do have to get another monitor for the office.. might have to try 4k.. gaming on the 2k samsung odessy g9 currently.. but plugged my pc into my 60hz cheap 50" tv once… man.. the 4k makes a massive difference to the graphics for gaming… rather have a smaller screen 4k than a bigger one in 2k probably… awell hehe

Would recommend this instead if you going $500+ range. IPS, 4K and got speaker in built. Cheaper also, only downside not curved and around 3" smaller. Only get the LG if she is into fps gaming due to high refresh rate.

    • yeah thats nice.. ips too

  • +6

I would take 1440p ultrawide, usb-c, and high refresh rate any day over any of those 4k 60hz panels…

    • Same! Ultrawide is awesome and 1440p is plenty.

This or the Dell one? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/781289
    Thanks.

Dell S3423DWC is awesome. If you have UniDays, brings price down by another 7%.

    • Great find!!! Seems to have more multi device screen support features like pip etc for productivity uses… though its only 100hz.. but my aunt wont be gaming.. this probably the better monitor for her usecase… though, not sure if she will use pip etc

Bought the Dell last week. Built in KVM support is great. I can even plug my USB headset into the USB-A and works through USB-C. Got rid of my dock as this does it all with power delivery. Only using it for WFH so no comment on it's gaming capabilities but for productivity its superb not to mention, delivered in 2 days.

    • Nice… it has 90w usbc… i heard 65w usbc is more slower at charging a laptop while using it as a monitor. Ips also nice. 60 Hz though. Looks like a good productivity monitor 👌
