      Or 20%

It's weird that the post didn't get much votes before, so I missed it.

    5%? No thanks!

  • +2

That's crazy only 5%. Even worse that I have so many cards with remainder of $1-$2, it's hard to spend on them. Not many places do split payment and I'm not allowing myself to get ice cream cone in Maccas

    • grill'd, sushi hub are my regulars for using leftovers

      • Do they allow split payments? I asked once at McDonald and even they don't allow split payment.

        • my local grill'd does it for me every time.

        • Maccas allowed you to split payments cash and card, make sure you have the cash ready.

      • sushi hub, allow you to use small amount of cards? e.g swipe 10x for $10 spent?

    • +2

I use them on Shopback to buy $5 Ubereats gift cards. You just need to also pay the right amount with your Shopback balance.

Not worth it especially reataurant has a surcharged as well.

    • Absolutely agree!!

    • +1

Compared to getting no discount, doesn't that make these more worth it to cancel out the surcharges?

    • Not everywhere has card surcharge, and you don't have to use it at "restaurants"

      Most food places work

  • Have got these for up to 20% off in the past.

Worst thing is I can’t add anymore restaurant choice gift card into my Apple wallet after using several. I can’t even add back ones I’ve used in the past.. I contacted support and they say it’s with the wallet provider which is not true..

    • What error do you get? I think I get the same issue…

      • +1

Invalid card details, even though the details are correct. Plus I can add those cards to husband’s phone so it’s not the cards.

        • +1

Yeah same here. I can add card to another phone but not my own one. Not sure what's wrong!

  • I used a digital restaurant choice gift card on the weekend at a restaurant/club that has a merchant category (MCC) of 7997, so should have worked - payment declined. I immediately pulled out a physical restaurant choice gift card to try - payment accepted.

Grateful for any idea why a digital card would not work at a venue where a physical card works?

Interesting to read that the digital version doesn't work but physical card does… usually it's the other way around!

    • @WookieMonster Any idea? Didn't you say the digital cards can be used anywhere?

      • +1

Are you think of this old comment about Restaurant Choice gift cards (which is now out-of-date, because the physical gift cards have been opened up to work at the same places as the digital gift card), or this recent comment about digital Good Food gift cards?

        • I hadn't actually read it, but this (saw the OP of this deal say that you said they could be used anywhere).

Good to know about the physical cards having been opened up. Seems they can't be added to mobile wallets though (or used online)? If that's the case, would much prefer the digital version or TCN Restaurant.

@MiscOzB: I forgot I wrote that comment! Let’s be honest, I never said that it could be used anywhere, so OP didn’t choose their words well… I was only saying that Blackhawk Network only restricts Restaurant Choice gift cards to specific MCCs, not specific merchants.

I cannot figure out a way to add the physical gift cards to a mobile wallet. The physical gift card also cannot be used for online purchases, because they operate on the eftpos network. I know a couple of OzBargainers asked Blackhawk Network at the end of last year whether it was possible to do an exchange of some sort and the answer was no. That sucks, partly because if you go to a restaurant or bar that uses Square terminals, you will not be able to use the physical gift cards as a payment method. (Square will not process eftpos payments if you swipe a card through the magstripe reader.)

            • +1

@WookieMonster: Actually it seems there's a newer version of the physical cards that aren't eftpos (and IIRC there was discussion about this in the Coles deal earlier in the year).

              From this page:

Can Restaurant Choice Gift Cards be used to make purchases online?

Yes, Restaurant Choice Gift Cards can now be used online (please note, the older Restaurant Choice gift cards that have an eftpos logo on the back cannot be used online).

              And they even say this:

Is the physical Card required to be used at the EFTPOS pin pad to authorise my purchase when using a Restaurant Choice Gift Card?

The restaurant must use the pin pad provided when redeeming a Restaurant Choice Gift Card for goods or services as directed by the POS terminal.
If you’ve already added your Restaurant Choice Gift Card to your mobile wallet or exchange it for an eGift card, then you will not require your physical card.

I'll set a reminder to check what my local Coles has in stock next time I'm in.

It depends on a couple of questions:

      • Who rejected payment of the digital gift card? Was it the merchant or issuer? The error message you would have got on the EFTPOS terminal screen probably would have indicated this. I think I caused one restaurant to ban prepaid gift cards as a payment method, and they went a step further and got Commonwealth Bank - their EFTPOS provider - to block Perfect eftpos gift cards.

      • If the issuer (Blackhawk Network, in this case) declined the transaction, what was the error code / error message? The reason I ask is that the error message could indicate what the issue could be (e.g. insufficient available balance, acquirer unable to talk to the issuer, expired card)… or the error message may not help. The last time I tried to use a digital Restaurant Choice gift card at a merchant with a permitted MCC, I got error code 05: Do Not Honour. When I contacted Blackhawk Network, they were unsure what was going on, because they could see the merchant used the correct MCC and the payment should have gone through. There was one suggestion that the digital Restaurant Choice gift card was not tokenised correctly on my phone, but I did not get a chance to test this out - i.e. remove and re-add the gift card to my mobile wallet - before Blackhawk Network blacklisted the relevant MCC on the Restaurant Choice gift cards!
