  • can't submit the application, click on submit application and continue nothing happens

  • As someone just looking to join in on the points journey this one looks like its going to be hard work, think Ill try one of the other points offering cards

Whats the most recommended option at present compared to this one?

    • This is the best you're gonna get at the moment

    • Amex Velocity Platinum is offering 60K points when you apply online, are approved, and spend $3,000 on eligible purchases on your new Card within the first 3 months.
They've also got the highest points per spend @ 2.25 points per $1 spent. Downside is that not everywhere accepts Amex and is always subject to higher card surcharge

    • The NAB one is easier, only a single $1000 spend in 60 days for 60k Velocity Points (120k NAB points)

      • Yeah i went this way for my first time chasing points, new to the whole points game, thanks for the tips OP, i'll be grabbing the gift cards for sure

Does paying rent/mortgage count towards eligible spend?

I was hoping to just list this card as direct debit on home loan account.

  • Applied for the High Flyer card on Friday thinking the deal would end on EOFY. Was conditionally approved, then 15 minutes later approved.
Called to confirm I was eligible for full benefits of High Flyer card, however spent 30 mins on the phone to customer service as the wrong promo code was linked to the sign up button I clicked. Apparentlky I was only eligible for The Flyer benefits. After 3 staff members checked the website they confirmed I was eligible for High Flyer benefits and they were manually applied.
Bit of a complicated process, but everything worked out in the end

    • It's only waiver in the balanced transfer card

      • Yeah. The title and description of the OP are a bit confused at the moment so just confirming for people.

        • When did you apply for this credit card? This is what was mentioned under point 39 of T&Cs.

Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card no annual fee waiver offer is available to new customers that apply by 31 July 2023. The annual card fee is $0 for the first year, then $129 will be charged on the anniversary of your card account being opened with Virgin Money.

I suggest you take a print of the T&Cs and email them stating this is the case.

          • @nightelves: About 9:40am this morning.
I will attempt to argue that.

EDIT: point 39 is for Balance Transfer offer, not 100,000 Velocity Points offer.
It's a bit confusing but I'd have no case.

            • @theguyrules: ive had another close look at this, and there is nothing to suggest that its only as part of a balance transfer offer.

              • @fox81: Can confirm I haven't been charged any AF yet. I have been using it for a week now.

                • +1

@dealhunter52: Pretty sure they usually add the AF to the first statement with this card.

                  • @bohn: Ok good to know, I thought the AF is charged when you activate or use the card first time as per the fineprint. So my joy is shortlived then 😔.

    • +2

Had the card for a week now, spent my first month's $1,500. No sign of an annual fee thus far.

      • I just activated mine.
How do you know if you've met the spend properly?

        • That’s the fun part, you don’t. From their website: “An eligible purchase means any purchase excluding Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, refunds and chargebacks, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, and fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges.”

Pretty much, if they’re purchases then you should be good. I’d avoid counting a spend at a government body (ie Sydney Trains) just in case, as I know a lot also exclude that.

          • @j1nx: Love the mystery :P
            Gift cards it is.

            • @theguyrules: Yep, exactly! Gift cards are my go-to for churning points.

      • still no annual fee charged yet? recall you got it in the beginning of this month, looks promising

        • +1

          No fee charged yet.

  • I currently have a Citi Rewards card (have had for less than a year), will this effect the likelihood of approval on this card? Cheers

    • +1

It all depends on your amount of debt (eg. mortgages, other credit cards, car lease),
your salary (show recent salary or group certificate),
your expenditures (eg. rental? living costs? etc.)
your assets (any houses to your name?)

When I had a $15k limit on my Citi Card, I found out that it affected mortgages and other credit card applications.
However, when I lowered that $15k to $10k (the lowest possible),
      it opened up more possibilities.
So, even with that $5k lowering, my borrowing capacity or Credit Card application outcomes changed.

The only way to find out whether you're eligible, is to apply,
however each time you apply for a Credit Card,
it goes against your record as a person who is applying for a 'loan',
      so bear that in mind.

If you want to find out your credit rating,
I think there are some services (eg. Equifax) that you can use,
to see what your credit standing is.

      • +1

Thanks for the detailed response! So, did the 15k limit negatively effect your credit rating? I always thought the higher the limit the better. If this is not the case I will lower my current credit card limit as it's 20k, which I definitely don't need I was just hoping it would be a positive for getting a home loan in the future. I currently use Clear Score for credit rating which uses Experian.

        • +1

The $15k limit was an old Citibank limit,
and I just kept that limit, because I was not paying any Annual Fees.
It didn't affect my credit rating per se,
but when I was applying for other cards or mortgages, etc…
they would tell me during the application,
the $15k limit was very high and wanted to know more about that.
I would tell them I never bought anything on Credit
and it was just a default limit.
They told me, that $15k affected my ability to borrow $90k in homeloans, etc.
They would even ask me to cancel that Citi card too,
because I guess, if they could approve my mortgage or card application, they get a commission too.

If you get a high limit card, that's the bank's way of telling you they like what you earn
and think you can be trusted with a high limit.
However, having high limits, affects your ability to take on subsequent "loans" and credit card offers,
unless you have an asset under your name (eg. house), don't have much outgoings (rent?), etc.

You can ask a bank how much you could borrow based on that $20k limit
and how much to borrow without that $20k limit.
They can use their lending calculators and tell you.
Also, the lending rules change regularly too, so about 5 years ago,
it was very easy to get loans but not anymore.

quickest credit card ever, submitted at 11:30 got a call at 11:45 and approval received at 11:48

    • When I got mine 3 months ago was also my quickest approved card

Partner got a call this morning and overseas operator struggling to understand what casual employment is and why her weekly pay slip amount x 52 doesn't exactly match her YTD total was. Got another email asking for further ID and evidence, will see what happens.

  • +1

Conditionally approved last night - submitted payslips.
    Haven't heard anything else yet.

    • Applied yesterday morning and uploaded payslips, also haven't heard back yet.

      • Just got an approval text now.

        • Yep just got approval text as well

  • There is some chat in AFF that the V.H.F card could be worth keeping in-lieu of the now devalued St George Signature card as your main VISA earning card.

Apparently it converts to 0.645KRIS miles.

  • New to cc points. so for this card I cant make "government related" payments like rego and ctp? is there a workaround?

    • +3

      Sniip

    • gift cards such as coles mastercard when on sale. Then use the card to pay for the government related items.

      • yeah but dont they charge interest on those

      • It’s risky holding these, easy to hack. Best to buy and transfer asap

  • anyone had this more than once and gotten the bonus again? If so, after how long?

    • +3

had the card about 5 times, I usually don't come back to it within 6mths
      Got the bonus every time

  • Two things.
1- This is now managed by NAB, it came up as a NAB card in a recent credit report as I had one and closed it.
2- The clock starts ticking around the time they send it out. I've been caught as the first month to hit $1500 actually was only 2 weeks once I got it and activated it, so it's easy to miss that first months bonus points if you're not careful.

I really like these cards, the points drop into your Velocity account very quickly from my experience.

    • I agree, I normally receive velocity points on the 3rd of each month (Haven't got last months 25k points yet today though)

  • Tempted, but have to close my Commbank.

Just started a NAB, min spend $2,000.

I better take it easy, tho $1,500 a month is fine.

Did anyone have to upload payslips? I didn't with NAB.

    • I did , not with nab.

  • If recently received bonus points from an NAB deal, will I be ineligible for bonus points on this deal?

    • No

      • Really?

        • +1

          Q: "Will I be ineligible for…?"
          A: No
(meaning you will be eligible for bonus points because they are different products)

      • Why not?

  • So you can't access your account/credit card details until your physical card comes right?
How long does that typically take?

    • For me it wasn't quick, no sooner than a week. Some people it takes 2 weeks

      • Bummer. Already spent some money that could have gone on the card. Oh well.

        • +1

I just checked and my card took 8 days from approval to arrive in regional Vic, others definitely waited longer. If it makes you feel better I think I spent 1-2k the day before it arrived because I was sick of waiting and didn't think it was coming anytime soon

  • How do people even spend $1500 per month? My bills are all in quarterly, the only expenses per month for me is groceries ($500), internet ($80), mobile phone ($30), car ($100) & home insurance ($100), a shortfall of $700 to meet the required spend. Is there a way we can make bills like power, gas, water, council paid PER MONTH?

    • Is there a way we can make bills like power, gas, water

      You can prepay them.
      Also: supermarket gift cards.

    • +2

I'm shocked you can't spend $1500… you can definitely prepay power, gas, water etc.
I'm sure you have other expenses like entertainment, hobbies, fuel, subscriptions?, pets?,

      • 😂😂 I'm shocked too..

No fuel cost, my car is Electric
        Electricity (solar plan) - $280/month + $45/month usage ($325/month)
        Water - $150/month
        Gas - $60/month
        Internet - $80/month
Mobile (combined with partner) - $75/month
        Groceries - $500/month
        Car, Health & Home Insurance - $300/month

Barely scratching the surface, N.B. a lot of these figures are rounded up, more often than not I tend to spend less than what's forecasted

  • Not sure if it's been asked already but will. Eligible payments be for Zip/Afterpay and PayPal Pay in 4 methods?

    • +1

I’ve had this card for a few months now and have received bonus points from Zip BPAY payments

      • How do you link zip bpay payments with the vff credit card? :/

        • +1

you make payments with zip, and pay it off with this card, hence getting points.

  • Keep encountering the error "Oops - something went wrong, Uh-oh. It looks like we've had an error. Please follow one of the actions below to continue." when signing up, anyone else getting this issue?

    • No, applied this morning and got approved very quickly. Maybe try a different browser?

      • Oh bugger, tried again tonight on mobile, laptop, different browsers on desktop and unable to get into the sign-up/details page last night, confronted with "Secure Connection Failed An error occurred during a connection to application.virginmoney.com.au. Peer’s Certificate has been revoked."

        • similar issue here. did you manage to fix?

  • -1

Got rejected and customer service refused to provide a reason. I applied for two NABs at the same time and got it, and have never been rejected for a card. Not worth the risk to your credit rating

    • +6

so u applied for 3 credit cards in a very short time and are disappointed you got a rejection?

      • +1

With all the recent ID leaks I'm not surprised they were rejected.

  • Can anyone clarify what 100,000 points gets you? I see a few people say $1000 but in https://shop.velocityfrequentflyer.com/ it equates to around $500 in gift cards.

    • +1

Converting velocity points to gift cards is poor value. If you sell them or actually use them on flights, they are easily worth $1000+

      • Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification.

  • When do you get the travel credit? I have had this card for 3 months now and no travel credit yet

  • Does anyone know if using RentPay to pay rent will attract velocity points? Or would this be classed as semi-government?
Good tip regarding Sniip to pay bills too!

    • Yes, you'll get the points as usual. You also can pay via Paypal, Zippay, Afterpay, Klarna…

  • With "Eligible Transactions" excluding "Government related transactions" including "fares on public transport". Can anyone confirm if using the card for Opal counts towards the eligible spend for bonus?

    • Can you top up at a retailer offering top up service perhaps?

      • Yeah you can do that, or pay via zippay etc.

  • I just got mine approved this morning. Thanks OP 👍

Question: if I link the card to my PayPal and use the PayPal to pay or send money to anyone, does it count as spending? Cheers

  • Virgin Money app experience with this credit card is very clunky. It shows payments as "Unbilled Moneys" and doesn't show you what Velocity points have been accrued so far. Anyone else having this issue?

    • app is terrible and gets terrible reviews.. I just use the web portal

      • I find the web portal to be a bit clunky too. I feel like its not tracking my payments properly. I hate that I cant see what points I've earned so far

  • +1

I'm going to have to spend $1500 in two weeks with how long this card is taking to get here. Worthwhile knowing that the spending month is from approval date - not card arrival. Know this has already been stated in the discussions.

    • Mine arrived after 1 day wait

    • First thing I do when I get a new card is look to see when the first statement will be issued. You obviously need to meet the spend by that date.

    • Mine took a week to arrive so I was already 1 week late. Really annoying

  • Has anyone who currently has this card had difficulties getting their travel credit within 10 business days? The web form just says wait and they will email once your data is matched. There is no feedback otherwise.

    • My understanding is you need to wait 2 months before you can apply for the travel credit. Once Virgin Money approves it, it goes to Virgin Australia to be processed as Travel Bank credit.

      • +1

I thought the two months related to the retail purchase required to request this

        • Thats right. Sorry i forgot to mention that
