Annual fee is regularly half this. Also, be aware of many spend exclusions and on the fence spends "semi government" is a good example. This is the card you will get AFCA involved with, but good perks for the work.

    • +1

What do you mean get AFCA involved with good perks for work?

      • i think it means you have to complain to AFCA to get your disputed points.

        • +23

That is correct. They didnt accept my water / power bills (said its Semi gov and didnt count). Our water and power is privatised… Escalated to a superior (offshore). He basically said "too bad, no chance of getting the points". Lodged with AFCA a week later I got a call from an Oz rep, points landed within 24hrs.

    • +1

I got it for half annual fee too a few months ago.
The application process was very broken for me on the website. Had to do the application over the phone.
App is pretty terrible too, but the points make it worth it.

  • Do you get a partial refund of annual fee if you cancel in the first year?

  • +1

Yeah I stopped getting this card when they nipped the government bills as valid spends. My big ticket items are all property related bills.

Might mean Amex velocity will bump up their bonus points to be competitive.

    • +1

Fees not worth it using the likes of Sniip or Yak Pay?

      • What's yak

        • +9

You know Sniip? It's like that, only Yak.

      • Are Sniip or Yak pay eligible spends for getting the bonus?
They state business expenses are not eligible and Yak pay is specifically targeted for business customers.

        • Yeah everything I've read here, Whirlpool, Ausfinance etc seems to say that Sniip etc will work fine for meeting minimum spend requirements and earning reward points. Even if the bill you're paying wouldn't otherwise be eligible.

I think Sniip is the only personal option left, the others require an ABN to sign up, and Beem it is kind of dead.

        • +1

Used this offer to pay off my HECS, can confirm Sniip is eligible for bonus points.

          • @miked: But 1.5% fee?

            • +1

@nadan: Better than the 7.1pc indexation

              • @miked: For sure, I was more referring to the use of Sniip and not paying off HECS.

  • +1

VF is an A+ card. Just churned through this. Easy criteria to fulfill over 4 months to get 100k points + travel credit.

Only issue was their registration form that kept glitching out for me. Had to sign up via phone.

    • +2

The app is also hot garbage but agree points are good.

  • +2

Good card with the small monthly spend. Getting the travel voucher was annoying though - the virgin website just refuses to work

  • +3

Got rejected last time. They probably know I'm a churner. I signed up to Westpac velocity 15mins later and got approved.

    • +1

Had the exact same thing happen and also grabbed a Westpac card instead. What's next? NAB for me I think :p

    • same…got the card in 2021, then rejected in 2022, trying my luck again in 2023

      • +2

        approved this time round

        • Were you instantly approved?

          • +1

@mameimo: Yep, conditional to payslips being verified

    • yep just got instant rejected for a second time in a year. Only card I consistently get rejected from.

      • Does it affect credit file

      • Ask Procol Harum
you keep getting virgin nr 16…

    • +1

Is it a citi card? More than 2 applications in x time frame (cant remember what it is), is an instant rejection.

      • Haven't had a Citi card for 2 years when I applied.

    • +1

I’m a serial churner and have never been approved for this card. Been declined 2-3 times in the last couple of years. Might go for NAB reward instead.

  • +3

I'm hoping this is the beginning of a season of improved QFF signup bonus points offers across other cards. Looking at you Qantas Amex Ultimate…

  • +6

Don’t think the high flyer card is worth extra 20k points as a churned,

I’m currently my third month of the Velocity flyer card getting 25k points per month, but I got bonus 30k points in the first month so 130k total.

Might consider getting my partner to sign up for this one

    • +1

You need to spend like ~2.334x the amount on the High Flyer compared to the Flyer card for only 25% extra points. Definitely not worth it IMO.

You could open up another card with a different provider that has bonus points and get more points for less money spent.

    • how did you get the 30k bonus points for this card?

  • I clicked on upload my document's later and accidentally refreshed. Does that mean its been submitted because havent got email yet

    • +1

Update - took about 15 mins for the email

  • What documents do they require on application?

    • Payslips, medicare card, drivers licence. The usual stuff.

  • +1

I'm reading this card as no annual fee for the first year with 100k offer which is fantastic!

    • +3

      I read it as $129?

      • I got this card a few months ago, the annual fee then was $64 for 100k card

      • But the $129 can be redeemed as a travel voucher?

      • -2
        • +4

No annual fee only for balance transfer and doesn't include bonus points

      • +4

Under "Things you need to know"

Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card no annual fee waiver offer is available to new customers that apply by 31 July 2023. The annual card fee is $0 for the first year, then $129 will be charged on the anniversary of your card account being opened with Virgin Money.

    • +1

Yes, no annual fee for Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card in first year - point 39 in ''Things you need to know"

      • Thanks for the refrence. I updated the description to reflect the waiver.

        • +3

There are two different offer. 100000 Velocity Points offer and Balance Transfer offer. No annnual fee is for Balance transfer offer which no bouns points. You can scroll up and see #39 is in Balance Transfer offer. 100000 Velocity Points offer does have $129 annual fee.

  • Am I right to presume that I can use multiple vouchers in my travel bank on the same transaction? New to this travel bank thing.

P.S. Already got a voucher from ANZ in my travel bank.

    • Yeah you can, normally they combine it.

I had 2 vouchers on the same account with different expiry dates before, also from ANZ

  • +2

Thats a big spend hurdle dang
    Challenge accepted.

    • +7

Username checks out if you think that’s a big minimum spend

      • -6

        Wow big spender.
$14k spend isnt a big minimum? Show me cards with higher minimum spend.

Trying to gaslight me when you do refundable bookings lmao. Joker

        • +3

The high flyer card for 120k is a terrible deal for only an extra 20k points. $1500 a month is very doable on the VF card which gives you 100k points.

You're paying $160 extra in annual fees for only an extra 20k points after 4 months which is worth $200 @ 1c pp

So you are only getting an extra $40 value whilst having to do unnecessary spending, this is a card to churn not keep and earn as there are much better cards out there for that if you're looking at earn rates, insurances etc.

  • +1

Do we have to keep the card open to use the travel voucher? Can the travel voucher be used to pay for taxes for reward flights? And does it all have to be used in 1 transaction?

    • +1

To answer my own question after reading travel bank t&cs: credit cannot be used for reward flights and can be used in more than one transaction. Not sure if the card has to be kept open, but i presume not.

      • Any idea how you get the travel voucher? Got this card about 4 months ago and didnt even know this was a perk

      • +1

I closed my card, but the travel credit is still available and seems to have 1 year expiry

  • Is the spend criteria spend $1,500 or $3,000 every month for the first 4 months or just one off spend within the first 4 months?

    • +1

$1500 per month, they issue 25k points at start of each month

      • Now what's some tips to do 1500pm?

        • +14

Just keep yourself alive for a whole month and you’ll be most of the way there surely.

Otherwise buy gift cards, pay your tax debts, pay your council rates early, put your energy bills into credit.

Or book accomodation for 6 months in advance each month with free cancellation, once you’ve gotten all the points cancel the accom for full refund

          • @Brick50: Isn't a hassle to get accom refunded to a cancelled credit card?

            • @kuwahshi: why would the credit card be cancelled? You keep the credit card for 4 months, and at the end of 4 months get accom refunded then cancel CC

          • @Brick50: Otherwise buy gift cards, pay your tax debts,

Do these count as eligible spend

            • @chrig: They should, but I was referring to the recent 10% off Coles Mastercard Gift Card deal from Coles which you can use to pay ATO

  • They try to avoid paying out the points. The month for minimum spends starts from the time you are approved, not from when the card is activated. So you're approved, card us sent a few days later, is received a few days later. Then you only have 2-3 weeks to reach the pretty high min spend with multiple exclusions - which in my case I realised too late. And they straight up don't give a shit when you call them. I would avoid.

    • Eligible purchases in the fine print look pretty standard to me: “An eligible purchase means any purchase excluding Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, refunds and chargebacks, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, and fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges.”

Is there more to this that you would be able to describe for us?

      • +2

I paid a few bills as I had 2 weeks to hit 4.5k. They said the bills didn't count. They had a different promo around Easter so there were postage delays. Not Virgin's fault, but they didn't budge on the 1 month fron approval vs 1 month from activation thing despite a clear reason for the discrepancy. There is no cancellation or retention team. The first person you get is happy to cancel your card if you aren't happy. From another post:

At the bottom of the page in "things you need to know" it says at point 10:

"Eligible Transaction means any purchase excluding (but not limited to) Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, BPAY payments, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges and government related transactions. Government related transactions include transactions with government or semi-government entities, or relating to services provided by or in connection with government (for example but not limited to transactions made at Australia Post, payments to the Australian Taxation Office, council rates, motor registries, tolls, parking stations and meters, fares on public transport, fines and court related costs)."

        • Thank you for that. I intend to purchase $1000 Woolies gift cards as we do every month anyway, and we can make up the rest with health insurance and Opal payments.

        • Damn that's a lot of exclusions.
What kind of bills did you have and how did you pay them?

It also says no "transactions made in operating a business" - does this mean payment processors such as YakPay could be excluded?

        • Bpay deft for rent, that would more than cover 1500 a month. But sad…

          • @stmgr: Do you think RentPay would work for credit card payments for rent? 90% sure its not BPAY

  • Nice deal. Website says $0 annual fee for the first year on the Flyer card, then $129 thereafter. OP description says $129.

    • Where does it say $0 annual fee on the website?

        • Okay, I honestly doubt it’ll be waived but here’s to hoping

          Will see how it goes

          • @Brick50: Lol, so you're saying VM not stick to their own T&Cs ?

            • @timhn: Are you able to send me an actual link to their website where it says $0 annual fee? Because the link in the comment you're referring to 404's. On the link in the original deal it's pretty clear theres an annual fee. Directly under the offer it says "Card details" which states there is a $129 annual fee.

Perhaps the annual fee was waived last month when the bonus points offer was not as good, or maybe even you can get it waived but with no bonus points. But I can't find it anywhere in the T&C's on their site stating that it's waived, and its definitely not there under the details of the Offer 1 and Offer 2 sign up pages.

              • @Brick50: Right here: https://virginmoney.com.au/credit-card/compare-our-credit-ca…

Scroll down to card details and it’s at the top of the table. You could argue that if they charge you an annual fee, because this website says it is free in the first year and that was your understanding of it, then it should be refunded.

                • +1

@j1nx: It comes under "balance transfer offer" though. The way i understand it is you can get the balance transfer offer with no af and miss out on points, or pay the annual fee with no balance transfer to be eligible for the 100k

                  • @BrunoBear: if true I find that to be incredibly misleading. It’s not made clear, and is under ‘card details’ as a general heading. As I said, I intend to argue this if they charge me the annual fee.

                    • +1

@j1nx: Okay I can see it now but yes, entirely different offer (no bonus points). They will definitely be charging an annual fee for this card and I personally found that very clear when I viewed the offer and signed up

In saying that keep us posted on the outcome

                      • +1

@Brick50: Will do! I have experienced similar website confusion with a previous churn last year and easily managed to argue the fee be refunded. Fingers crossed I am lucky enough this time. They really need to make their website clearer.

              • +2

@Brick50: Go to the link of the deal at VM website, scroll all the way to bottom of page, last item #39 of "Things you should know" :

Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card no annual fee waiver offer is available to new customers that apply by 31 July 2023. The annual card fee is $0 for the first year, then $129 will be charged on the anniversary of your card account being opened with Virgin Money.

    • Scroll down the page on the VF card. Tap to expand card details. First item in the table details the annual fee.

  • The annual fee states $249? also what is the minimum monthly spend? am i the only one confused?

    • VF $1500 per month, VHF $3500 per month. For 4 months.

      • oh, well then this rules me out thanks!

  • Anyone know if rent payments via deft count as valid spend?

    • +1

I've paid body corp via deft and it was fine
