    • What is the starting price? In OZB you should post in the title how much we are paying after saving.

      • +1

        Hey @MKBHD that's a good suggestion.

The starting price is free/$0. Only those who have higher tax deduction requirements and want to store more receipts. After saving you are paying $77.99 or the genuis plan which is normally $154.99

        Cheers,
        The TaxFox Team

  • eTax does the job unless you have investments etc

Calculate how much extra refund you can get

Lol not hard. eTax also has all the guides needed

Link your bank accounts to find expenses

    Lol. Not gonna happen

    • Log your WFH days
    • Log all your WFH expenses

Also can be done in eTax and Guide available on ATO website

    • Hey @easternculture thanks for your comments.

It seems like you are quite familiar with the etax app so it would be great to hear your feedback once you've tried the TaxFox App.

      Cheers,
      The TaxFox Team

      • +3

If you give me a free trial sure.
Not paying for it when your app is probabaly a reversed engineered eTax

        • +1

Yes the app is free. it's not even a time bound trial. The genius plan is only for those who are claiming more deductions.

You're assumption is incorrect - We have looked at all the tax apps in Australia and none of them are worth reverse engineering :)

We do appreciate people who are good at comparing features so are very open to you providing a side by side comparison

          Cheers,
          The TaxFox Team

          • @taxfox: What you describe in OP is exactly what eTax does. Ive been using eTax forever and it does the job and more, and user freindly.

They even have an app to store expenses/reciepts too im told although i have never tried it

            • @easternculture: What you're saying is like saying "Mcdonald's and hungry Jacks burgers are exactly the same because they both have cheese in them"

Many burgers have cheese but that doesn't make them the same.

Have you tried all the other features?

Perhaps they may not be useful for you in which case feel free to continue using etax :)

              Cheers,
              The TaxFox Team

              • @taxfox: So your app is superior to ATO eTax?

How about your cyber security. Care to explain how you protect our data.

What measure you have to prevent cyber attacks?

                • @easternculture: Hi @easternculture I think you may be confusing things. ATO etax doesn't exist.

We have bank level security and I'd be very happy to give you all the technical around it if you let me know what point of reference and level of understanding you have on digital cybersecurity relating and Australian financial data security requirements.

The fact that we are able to integrate with 64 Australian banks should give you an indication of the level of scrutiny that the app had to pass.

One thing we can say is that we have never lost any data for our users, period. This was one of the biggest problems that needed to be solved even with the ATO app which showed users putting reviews in saying that the ATO app had lost their data.

                  Cheers,
                  The TaxFox Team

    • You mean myTax?

      • Yeah whatever its called. Im just used to the old name

  • Its better to use proper registered tax agent, the costs of which can also be tax deductible.

    • Hey @nsingh21,

Cost of tax agent can be deducted and the cost of using tax fox is also 100% tax deductible :). Some of our customer use both.

  • +1

This year tax file is an emotional thing i need a human not AI :)

    • Hey Mel Dragons,

That makes total sense. Often a human touch can't be replaced! :)

Keep in mind that for future you can organise your tax stuff with the app and even if you are using a tax agent or accountant, you may be able to reduce the fee they charge if it takes them less hours and effort to lodge your tax return.

      :)

      Cheers,
      The TaxFox Team

      • Haha lol

        Tax agents are fixed price
They dont give a discount. Its take it or leave it service

        • Hey @easternculture,

Tax agents are not all fixed price. They may offer a fixed price for 'basic' returns but for people who are claiming more deductions or have more complex tax returns they usually have a different pricing system.

And tax agents do in fact give discounts - you can see agents and accountants offering tax time specials nearly everywhere you go.

Perhaps your tax returns have always been a fixed price and that may suit you better!

          Thanks!
          The TaxFox Team

          • @taxfox: They wont give you a discount just because everything is organised.

If you know such a tax agent, send me his deets and ill use him

Fixed price as in set price for each of their classifications they use

            • -1

@easternculture: It sounds like you're pretty adamant on the way you do your taxes and you're happy with your accountant and the fees they charge you to ensure you're getting the maximum amount of tax refund.

Sounds like this app might not be the best fit for you even if you decided to download and check it out.

And that's totally fine! With over 14M tax payers, different people have different needs.

              Thanks for your comments :)

              Cheers,
              The TaxFox Team

              • @taxfox: I dont have an accountant.
Ive used etax since it was released.
Get max deductions and just click the guide links if im not sure about anything.

You are just trying to sell a product that already exists and has been used by millions of tax payers every year

                • @easternculture: Great stuff!

Taxi's have been used by millions of people but it seems people found that using services like uber was better for what they wanted.

                  Many people still use taxis.

Please feel free to keep using old systems if you are happy with them!

                  Cheers,
                  The TaxFox Team

  • Similar to another person on Google Play I couldn't proceed with registration past the suburb code.

    • Hey @jrchurvnjef

We're very sorry about this. if you let us know your device and model whether here or at [email protected] we can help you.

You could try the following as a quick fix
      - Check keyboard settings to see if there are any custom keyboard settings applied. if you you can try using the google keyboard temporarily and it could fix the problem
      - another hack is to activate the google voice voice type temporarily.

We know this isn't the best solution but hopefully it'll get you past this page and we haven't had any other bug reports after this.

We're in the process of changing all the onboarding screens so a permanent fix will be in place within the next couple of weeks.

      Thanks for letting us know.

      Cheers,
      The TaxFox Team

      • Hey,
I am using OnePlus 9 Pro with Android 13.1.
Do you also happen to have any write up on your you secure user data? Anything related to securing bank details in particular

        • Hey @jrchurvnjef

          Thanks for this!

Whilst looking into the specific bug for your device we've found the bug! We have already pushed a fix into staging and after testing today we'll submit to android. A fix should be in place n the next few days. Please stand by!

I'll message here when the new version is up. Please feel free to email us as well.

Regarding the security and data privacy we have very detailed information in the terms and conditions and privacy policy.

We adhere to all Australian banking and financial data compliance requirements and we do not share data with any third parties. We also do not collect or store any bank login details as this is done by secure servers handled by the banks and their approved intermediaries.

Thanks for the great question :)

      Hey @jrchurvnjef

A new version was released to fix the keyboard issue you've been having.

You can update the new version through the play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.taxfox.tax…

We would really appreciate it if you could let us know if the keyboard issue has been resolved for you.

      Thanks!

      The TaxFox Team

      • Ah, either I had not explained it at all or you got my issue confused with others here. I actually can choose the suburb, but then pressing the green down arrow on screen does not do anything. Thank you for working through this.

  • Keyboard not popping up to enter postcode. Do your app developers do multi device testing?

    • Hey @glorydaybulls,

Thanks also for picking this up. Yes we do testing across all devices and this has been an 'interesting' bug to fix based on certain customisations that users have on certain android devices.

The comment just above may provide a quick fix.

We're sorry about this and will do our best to give you 1:1 support if you could please let us know your device name and model at [email protected]

      Thanks for letting us know.

      Cheers,

Not a deal - if anything, trying to get an AI to "find deductions for you" is likely to get you into more trouble than not.

If you're happy to lodge without documentation, why not just pull a number out of your ass?

This product has literally been 98% off in the past - basically, any RRP you put on it can be disregarded as a lie.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/560064

    • Hey @frowny,

you're right that documentation is required to claim tax deductions. Bank transactions can still act as evidence of the expense occurring. There are many rules around deductions which makes it hard for the average Australian to figure out all the jargon. The app aims to help make life a bit easier.

Even if you are good at pulling things out of your a$$ we would suggest to other readers that it's best not to make things up, especially related to taxes!

The 98% discount was a 1 time introductory which ill most likely never be offered again. Over the years we have added many features and now have thousands of users.

I'm sorry if you have been lied to about other products - this offer is genuine :)

      Cheers,
      The TaxFox Team

  • Last time you posted RRP was $84. Seems like an inflated sale.

    • +1

      Hey @internet-stranger,

      Good pick up!

That was for older versions of the app with older plans. in fact, at that time there were 4 different plans available.

As we improved the app and added more features that our customers found valuable, we simplified our plans and updated the pricing.

Our earliest version of the app at it's most basic only had a free plan and a $48 plan - it was nowhere as advanced as the app is now.

      Cheers,
      The TaxFox Team

      • -1

Good attempt at justifying the inflated RRP.

I dont see netflix increasing subscriptions everytime they improve the app and make it more user freindly.

        • Hey @easternculture,

You may wish to do some quick research before making throw away comments. A quick Google search shows that Netflix increased it's prices in Australia in 2021.

          https://7news.com.au/entertainment/netflix-australia/netflix…

Tech products would often adjust their prices, whether it's increasing or decreasing.

          Cheers,
          The TaxFox Team

          • @taxfox: The price increase was not related to app improvement/features as you are justifying increasing subscription price 3 fold.

App improvments /security is your responsibility as a developer. If you want to increase prices everytime you add a feature, ozbargain is not for you cause we are cheap arses here and we love free stuff.

            • @easternculture: Hey @easternculture

90% of the features in the app are free and for people who have a small number of deductions it's completely free.

So it seems it's perfect for Ozbargain!

Might not be good for someone who likes to make remarks without ever actually using the product. That's all good mate, everyone is entitled to use what they are comfortable with!

              Cheers,
              The TaxFox Team

  • +1

hey at least it's good to see rep is addressing queries in proper manner

  • +2

Thanks @capslock janitor, we'll do our best to answer questions with detail..

We still do appreciate comments and questions from sceptics and challengers. It helps bring out all the stuff other people my be wondering but don't end up asking.

A curious community keeps things honest and brings out the truth :)

    Cheers,
    The TaxFox Team

    • vey healthy approach and transparent. keep it up mate
