  • S3423DWC has speaker whilst S3422DWG no speaker

DWG also has 4 USB-A ports vs 2 on the DWC

"Main difference between the two is USB-C on the S3423DWC for an extra $43.89, but only does 144Hz instead of 100Hz."

I think you mean 100Hz instead of 144Hz

    Very good price.
Just waiting for something as nice with 1600 or 1800 vertical pixels

    • +1

Yeah, I would buy this if it had basically 4K+ horizontal resolution (>3840) and 4K vertical (2160). It is a matter of time really.

  • Looks decent as I'm hunting for a 34" for a sim racing setup.

Checking out the dell's the mounting points at the back appear to need massive spacers to connect up to an arm. Unfortunately a no go for me.

    • +2

Hmm no. Think they're normal vesa size. Have hooked a lot of arms up to dell monitors.

Believe the S3423DWC also has a KVM which is handy for some.

    • Very handy. I've got my wireless KB/mouse, and headset plugged into the USB ports connected to my laptop via USB-C and all works a treat including charging. Did away with dual monitors and dock.

    • +1

One thing to watch out for is that the S-series Dell monitors aren't supported by Dell Display and Peripheral Manager for macOS, so you have to use the monitor's built-in controls to switch KVM inputs when you're on a Mac.

    • Looks like it's quite limited KVM(?)

It's described how to connect Keyboard and screens (Video). But no Mouse support?

  • With these new screens… I can connect it to my laptop via USB-C cable but how does it connect to the desktop? And how does the mouse and keyboard know to switch between desktop and laptop?

    • Desktops will still use HDMI/Displayport.

Sounds like you need a docking station thought.

      • Seems there is no DP, not sure why and whether HDMI has some rate limits lower than DP.
But you don't need a docking station if you can plug all your devices into monitor port, KVM switch is there already

    • I assume you switch the source between HDMI and USB-C in monitor settings, it still has old school ports for desktop: HDMI and USB (not sure how it is called, same used in printers usually)

    • +3

And how does the mouse and keyboard know to switch between desktop and laptop?

      • Connect your laptop to the monitor via a USB-C cable
      • Connect your desktop to the monitor via a HDMI cable and USB cable
      • Plug the keyboard and mouse into the monitor

And then you can use the KVM switch (basically just a button built into the monitor) to swap between the laptop and desktop.

Note that this is for the S3423DWC. The S3422DWG doesn't have a USB-C port or a KVM switch.

Are you sure you don't need special USB cable between monitor and desktop?
I suppose it won't work via HDMI only

        • +2

Are you sure you don't need special USB cable between monitor and desktop?

You do. You need both the HDMI cable and the USB cable for the desktop.

If you are connected only to the desktop, can the monitor still receive power with usb cable and HDMI?

        • The monitor is powered via a power cable to the wall.

  • Just a heads up delivery time for the S3423DWC will be early August,
I have one in production from before the FY end.

    • Del must have sold a few. Got mine in 2 days about 2-3 weeks ago…

      • Had an update tonight on the DWG i purchased on the 30th June and now expecting a 2 week delay.

Keep an eye on their refurbs, I got the 32" version a month ago for $380

  • Would something like this be okay for PS5 vs a TV and music production?

    • To get the most from your PS5, you would need HDMI 2.1

I am also sceptical on the effective use of ultrawide monitors on Consoles. Granted, the PS 5 has support for 21:9 aspect ratio, I am not sure how this works in terms of games themselves support this aspect ratio on consoles.

      • I can always use a TV, but J guess multi-purpose would be nice.

Mainly it's as a workstation monitor.

I don't really want to buy a gaming monitor, because I don't play that much ps5 so maybe I'm just better off using the TV.

        • You can still use it. I use my Series X on my ultrawide Alienware monitor using HDMI port (not 2.1 version). It only displays in 16:9 aspect ratio which is fine for me.

    S3423DWC
How is this monitor for photo n video editing?

  • Between these 2 monitors, which one is better for Ps5?

    • Faster resolution, get the S3422DWG!

wasn’t this cheaper last year like lel top kek was looking for good joke before bed

  • How many users could see the difference between 100Hz and 144Hz?
    Thanks

    • (144 - 100) / 100 = 44%

I would say almost everyone would notice almost a half increase in refresh rate at this level

      100hz is still rather slow

  • Will this be an upgrade from the Acer Predator XB271HU 27 I have .currently looking a new main monitor for gaming and little video editing .

  • Any well priced conference monitors?

  • Has anyone purchased the S3422DWG recently?

How long did it take from production to actually delivery?

Interested as my order (currently in production) says they are still on track to meet the delivery date (yesterday) and someone mentioned above theres a delay on the DWC model….

  • Ordered a DWC on the 24th of June and expected delivery date is mid August.
