    • I was able to buy Apple gc with ultimate gc at jb hifi last Saturday.

      • Im about to do the same with multiple gc at JB… do you know whats the highest denomination they stock for apple gc ?

        • +1

I recall $200 being available. I wonder if they have variable load.

          • @t25: No variable load

    • +5

It worked for me a few hours ago.

  • Looking to buy a new iPhone. So is OP saying it’s not possible to use 15 gift cards in store?

    • Just convert the gift cards to Apple and buy from there.

The Big Question is, can we pay with Coles prepaid Mastercard. :D

    • +2

The last report I saw was last month, where someone said the checkout let them do that.

Who knows whether it still works (or more importantly, whether it will still work next week).

      • Cannot see why this wouldn't work.
You've bought $500 from this deal.
If card is still working (aka not hacked) then it should be a valid form of payment for
        5 X $100 Ultimate Him gift cards.
You've now got $575 to spend at JB-Hi-Fi using your Ultimate Him gift cards.
Now its up to the JB-Hi-Fi cashier to process your 5 gift cards for payment.
Quite a few variables in place but worth the extra steps from a $462.60 spend resulting in $575 of gift cards.

        • +2

Cannot see why this wouldn't work.

Coles’ policy is that you cannot use Coles Mastercard gift cards to purchase any gift cards at Coles. If you have a staff member stop you from using a Coles Mastercard gift card as a payment method, tough luck.

I am aware of Coles implementing automatic blocks in their POS system when you try to use a Coles Mastercard gift card to purchase a small number of gift cards (e.g. Coles Mastercard gift card, Coles Group & Myer gift card), but I am not sure whether Coles have made more updates to their POS system in recent weeks to extend the blocks to cover more gift cards (e.g. Ultimate gift cards, TCN gift cards).

If card is still working (aka not hacked) then it should be a valid form of payment for 5 X $100 Ultimate Him gift cards.

Yes, but if you want to do that using 2x $250 Coles Mastercard gift cards at Coles, you must go through a standard checkout. You then have to deal with either the POS system or the staff member (or potentially even both) stopping you from doing this.

          • @WookieMonster: Isn't a little weird that Coles are clamping down on customers using their own Visa cards?
Granted, it's use is for buying other cards on discount so I guess Coles is fighting back against OzBargain the "professionals".
Churning these cards quickly isn't what the providers are making money from.
The idea of a gift card is for presents for people with the provider getting 100% if you don't redeem in time. Just put it in the drawer and use it later are the best recipients of these cards.

            • @Crownie:

Isn't a little weird that Coles are clamping down on customers using their own Visa cards?

I do not think it is weird, because creative people “professionals” will use Coles Mastercard gift cards to purchase more Coles Mastercard gift cards and purchase over $10,000 worth in one day. It does not really address the reason that Coles would want customers to not use Coles Mastercard gift cards to purchase other kinds of gift cards…

The idea of a gift card is for presents for people with the provider getting 100% if you don't redeem in time. Just put it in the drawer and use it later are the best recipients of these cards.

Yeah, that is probably what InComm (the gift card issuer) is hoping for, except that probably is not happening in reality. The issue is that if you leave a Coles Mastercard gift card in a drawer for a number of months, some random person may redeem the funds in the meantime, then InComm needs to have paid staff around to deal with transaction disputes, as well as the systems to deal with disputes…

      • @WookieMonster can we use new ShopBack supermarket Visa card to get further 2.5% discount?

Waiting for discounted mastercard or visa card to pay for bills

  • Can i use in 99 bikes for mechanic service?

      • Thanks. Might be worth getting some for this

Bruh, my HSBC card got fkted….
Oh, I see… Hmmm, I need a Coles staff who would do the split payment for me. It’s not a big ask, just $99.99 each time for 20 time. Anyone here works in Coles, please?

    • Bit of a side qn re:HSBC, since I’m new in the game.. say I purchase $150 worth @Coles, at check out I split payment with cards paying $90 and $60 in the one transaction. Would that trigger the 2% to be paid at both the $90 and $60 portions respectively?

    • Just buy $50s

  • Has anyone used this to pay for holidays with Luxury Escape?

We have a balance to pay off for a holiday later this year, so how do I take advantage of this? Can I pay with multiple cards?

    Thanks for any advice.

    • I think you can exchange these for Luxury Escape egift cards via their website, so should be no problem.

  • Is there any way to use these as Netflix giftcards?

    • +1

I cannot think of a way to do that directly.

A couple of weeks ago, I would have quietly suggested you use an Ultimate gift card to pay for a Netflix gift card instore at Officeworks, but Officeworks has in the last couple of weeks been progressively updating their POS systems to automatically block you from using an Ultimate gift card as a payment method for any gift cards. Officeworks’ acceptance on Ultimate gift cards on their website has always been wildly inconsistent, so good luck trying to purchase a Netflix gift card through their website. You could also try purchase Netflix gift card over the phone at 1300 OFFICE, but I have no idea whether that would work.

I have not seen any JB Hi-Fi stores recently stock Netflix gift cards, and I have checked a number of stores recently… a couple of conversations with different staff members has also indicated they have not noticed Netflix gift cards stocked at JB Hi-Fi in recent times.

From what I have gathered, EB Games tends to only sell EB Games gift cards, as well as gift cards related to interactive entertainment. I have not seen a Netflix gift card stocked there recently.

When I last checked The Good Guys about a couple of weeks ago, they only stocked The Good Guys gift cards and a random assortment of Telstra and Boost SIM cards.

I am now out of ideas.

why arent you using Turkey for Netflix ?

  • Just wondering how do people find out about these deals a week in advance? Employee? Inside info?

Is there an issue with getting say 20 x $100 of these gift cards and when the next iPhone is released, using these at JB to effectively get 13% off from first day of release?

    • +1

Did you read any of the information above?

    • +1

I convert the ultimate gift cards to Apple ones at JB Hi Fi.

  • +3

I used 20 of these last monday to purchase an oled monitor and samsung soundbar system from jb hifi. Was about 20 of the $100 cards with no issues. It would be so much easier if they let you do the variable load ones or if they had $500 cards.

  • +1

Anyone know how you use leftovers on these cards? For some companies like Menulog you can only do a total payment using the card details. Ultimate gift cards are some of the most annoying to use compared to Prezzee and others.

    • Just split payment at a store that allows it. I normally did split payment at Timezone with any residual balance.

  • So if I buy a TV at JB for $500, they will let me use 5 of these cards no issues?

    • +1

      Yep

    • In store, yes.

  • I would like to buy the new iPhone 15 on the apple website, Can I use these gift cards on the apple store ?

    • +3

Go to JB and purchase Apple GC using these GC as payment, then u can choose to load the Apple GC into your Apple account or keep as is. If you keep as is, you can only use up to 8 GC in store I believe, so $800 max in a transaction. Whereas if u load into Apple account as credit, max is like $4k, but this way u can only purchase online, not in store.

      • +1

I actually used 16+ Apple Physical Gift cards to purchase my wife's iPad last year. This was in Apple Chadstone (VIC).

      • +2

You can redeem a maximum of 20 Apple gift cards in one transaction at a physical Apple Store. This is on the Apple website and was something I confirmed with an Apple Store staff member recently.

        • +2

Thanks for confirming and sorry about my misinformation 🙇🏻

          • +2

@noelhoi: Haha that’s okay! This information was not on the Apple payment methods webpage until recently, so I think Apple has only recent got around to making this information public. To be fair, for a long time, I was saying here that I had no idea what the instore gift card redemption limit was, so it could have been eight for all I knew!

The gift card redemption limit for purchases on Apple Online Stores and over the phone on 133 MAC is eight per transaction, so that is probably what you had in mind.

  • +1

Hello Fresh - does anyone know if you can pay split payment ? Or do you just apply the gift card and then you are in credit ?

    • +1

I had a look at the Ultimate gift card website and it says Hello Fresh is an exchange-only partner. That means you need to go to the Ultimate gift card website, navigate to their gift card exchange portal and exchange your Ultimate gift card for a Hello Fresh gift card. Once you do that, you are tied to the terms and conditions of the Hello Fresh gift card, not Ultimate gift cards.

      • +1

        legend! Thank you!

  • -3

So do we buy the gift card from coles or freepoints?

  • Is it possible to use these to purchase gift cards (Nintendo e-shop) at JB? I assume it's at staff discretion but does the system actually allow it to process?

    • Yes, you can buy different giftcards from JB using Ultimate giftcards.

  • If I get $115, is there a way to convert all of the ultimate dollars to Google play credits? Looking to top up on a certain game.

  • +1

Does anyone knows if you can use Coles gift cards to buy those ultimate gift cards?

    • I would be surprised if that worked.

Coles updated their POS systems on 19 April 2023 to automatically block attempts to use a gift card issued by Coles Group (including Coles gift cards and Coles Group & Myer gift cards) as a payment method for third-party gift cards.

You could always try, but I would not expect it to work.

  • Could someone answer this for me. If l purchase the Everyone card to exchange for the Luxury Escape gift card, because the Everyone card will have $115 of value loaded on it will l be able to exchange for a $115 Escape card or will the Escape card have a set denomination say $100 then l would be left with $15 left on the Ultimate card.

  • Saw somewhere u can use this for vintage cellars but can’t see it with any of their giftcards . Anyone can shed some light ?

    • Vintage Cellars? I have never seen them as a participating retailer in the Ultimate gift card scheme.

I think you are thinking of one of two scenarios:

      • The Pub Crawler gift card from Special, which used to feature Vintage Cellars as a participating retailer before that was OzBargained. (I think you can blame me for contributing to that…)

      • Restaurant Choice gift cards, which (for about a month) listed the MCC (merchant category code) for bottleshops as a permitted MCC. Vintage Cellars should use the MCC for bottleshops, so this theoretically would have worked, but this definitely does not work anymore!

  • +2

Just thought I'd share my experience in case it's helpful. I used $1700 worth of gift cards (mix of everyone and home gift cards ranging from $50-$100) and had no issues redeeming them in one transaction when I was buying a Macbook Pro from officeworks. I think it was 15-17 gift cards in total. Make sure you scratch off to reveal the pin to make it easier for the cashier

  • Does anyone know if I can use at Timezone during double dollar promotions? And can I redeem multiple eg 2x $50 for a $100 reload? (I still have some low denominations from a previous)

    • +1

Yes for both. Timezone is very flexible with splitting payment. But you might wanna get the 15% off timezone gift cards deal instead if you just want to load up your card.

      • Or if you have access to Costco or someone with access to, buy they Kingpin GC which is always 20% off face value…redeemable at TZ.

        • Was not aware of this, thanks for the tip!

        • Costco Epping (VIC) told me they have sold out all the Timezone gift cards last week. Crazy.

      • Thank you for reply!

  • Wheres the ebay gift card specials?

  • +1

I used up all my stocked Ultimate gift cards last month. JB HIFI allows to use any number of Ultimate gift cards in store (I used 9 once) but GoodGuys limited it to 5 Ultimate gift cards and did not allow to use more than 5.

  • +1

do we need to scan flybuy to get this offer?

    • There is no mention of Flybuys in the offer's terms and conditions at all, which makes me think that a Flybuys card is not required.

You usually only see Flybuys cards being a requirement for two kinds of gift card deals at Coles:

      1. Deals where you will earn bonus Flybuys points.
      2. Deals for an upfront discount on prepaid gift cards (i.e. Coles Mastercard gift cards, Vanilla Visa gift cards).
  • Is it possible to buy these online from Coles? I'm currently in the country and can't get to a physical Coles store.

    • +1

Nope, this deal is only available at physical Coles stores, as per the terms of the offer:

Offer valid only in store at Coles Supermarkets (excludes Coles Online, Coles Express and purchases via giftcards.com.au), subject to store availability.

  • Does buying gift cards with a credit card contribute to eligible purchases to get bonus cashback?

    • +1

It should be eligible, but it ultimately depends on how the credit card issuer chooses to handle the merchant in question.

When you make a purchase at a merchant, your credit card issuer can usually see only limited information about that purchase (e.g. merchant name/description, transaction time, merchant category code (MCC)). A credit card issuer usually cannot see what was actually being purchased, but a potential exception is Slyp (of which I talk about in more detail here).

The type of merchant you shop at and whether you shop instore or online can change the MCC, and therefore how the transaction could be handled. For example:

      • Coles, Woolworths and ALDI uses MCC 5411 (Grocery Stores, Supermarkets) for instore purchases of gift cards, so it should appear to your credit card provider that you have spent lots of money at a supermarket and therefore be eligible. I met my last credit card minimum spend requirement solely by purchasing gift cards instore at Coles.

      • Purchasing a gift card online at Australia Post should see the MCC be 5818 (Digital Goods - Multi-Category), but if you go instore to an Australia Post Shop and purchase a gift card there, the MCC should be 9402 (Postal Services - Government Only). MCC 5818 should be fine for meeting a credit card minimum spend, as that MCC is more aligned to "everyday spend". However, MCC 9402 is a Government-related MCC, and you usually find government spend is excluded from earning points or cashback from most credit card programs.

You need to keep in mind that one credit card issuer could arbitrarily choose to treat purchases at a particular merchant as cash advances (resulting in the purchase being ineligible for points or cashback, plus incurring additional fees), but another credit card issuer may not do that at the same time. Commonwealth Bank and Bankwest did that in late 2022 and early 2023 to Giftz.com.au (an online gift card portal operated by Blackhawk Network), yet at the same time, my purchases from the exact same merchant at the same time were treated as regular purchases by my Westpac credit card. (If you were wondering, Commonwealth Bank and Bankwest stopped treating purchases from Giftz.com.au as cash advances in March 2023.)

  • Has anyone had experience using multiple (e.g. 2) Ultimate gift cards at Lululemon?

    • +1

@camcollins are you able to help? I recall you tried to use multiple Ultimate gift cards at Lululemon late last year.

      • Thanks for digging that up! I am hoping to use in store - but know Lululemon are a bit peculiar about things. I'll give them a call tomorrow to check, too.

        • How did you go with Lululemon and the Ultimate gift cards?

  • +1

Last time I bought these I slowly purchased a couple of JB hifi gift cards each day through their website, and was able to purchase 14 Pro Max online with JB gift cards rather than having to swipe them all in store.

Looks like you buy JB gift cards online in any denomination, so should hopefully be able to do the same thing. For me I think it's easier to keep track of balance on JB gift cards than ultimate cards.

    • Are you able to “purchase” JB gc with Ultimate online? So treat Ultimate gc as your credit card or something and check out with it online for JB gc? Im thinking of doing the same…

      • +3

        Maybe.

A more detailed answer can be found in the FAQ, but…

        • JB Hi-Fi may cancel online orders for JB Hi-Fi gift cards paid using an Ultimate gift card, due to Riskified - a third-party tool used on JB Hi-Fi’s online store to determine whether a transaction is likely to be fraudulent - flagging such a purchase as being potentially fraudulent.

        • If JB Hi-Fi does not cancel an order for a JB Hi-Fi gift card paid using an Ultimate gift card, it will only permit a maximum of two orders of JB Hi-Fi gift cards per person per calendar day. Any attempts to purchase more JB Hi-Fi gift cards on the same calendar day will be unsuccessful.

Most people’s experiences are that they can purchase up to two JB Hi-Fi gift cards online per day, but some people have told me they have been unable to purchase any whatsoever.

        • +1

tested 2x$115 ultimate home gc and can confirm max 2 jbhifi cards a day via ultimate gc, 3rd order got cancelled immediately.

      • +1

Yes i'm pretty sure you can, I can't remember if it was these ultimate GC's or the TCN cards but I was able to buy 2 a day, any more and it would set off JB's fraud protection and you'd have to wait for money to come back to the card and try again the next day

  • how is this actually work? these cards are at nominated values e.g. $50 or $100. They load extra 15% on the card? so a $50 card will have $65 instead? it would be confusing

    • +7

I'd probably double check your maths before Wednesday…

  • Can anyone confirm if you can use apple gift cards (after converting these at jb) on the apple education store?

  • Is there a way to exchange them for Amazon gift cards?

    • Would love to know this as well. :o

    • No. Amazon is not a participating retailer of the Ultimate gift card scheme, plus none of the participating retailers sell Amazon gift cards.

There used to be a very indirect way to turn an Ultimate gift card into an Amazon gift card, but that relied on two loopholes, and both loopholes were closed within the last three months.

  • So does this mean you get a extra 15% on the gift cards. For example if you buy a $100 one it gives you $115 value?

    • yes exactly bonus.

  • Also does anyone know if you can can buy this cards with Coles gift cards?

  • Can the value of multiple cards combined and swapped for a particular store online?
