Referee Gets $750 off Model Y & 90 days Enhanced Autopilot, Referrer Gets 10,000 Referral Credits @ Tesla

2410

Starting July 7, 2023, if your friend orders a new Model Y using your referral link:

  • Referee receives A$750 off the purchase price and 90 days of Enhanced Autopilot.
  • Referrer receives 10,000 referral credits.

If you own (or have previously owned) a qualifying product, and you subsequently purchase an additional qualifying product with the same Tesla Account, you may also qualify for the cash awards and benefits listed above.

If an existing owner attempts to order through a referral link (whether their own or a friend’s), they will not qualify for referral credits, because the buyer is already part of the Tesla community. Instead, the owner automatically earns the buyer cash awards and exclusive referral benefits associated with the purchased product.

Updated as new Model 3 is no longer included

  • What happens if I already have an order? ($400 deposit)
I wonder can I order again with a referral link, and cancel the previous order.
Would I basically get $350 off + the autopilot

    • +1

Yep that’s correct. You’d go to the back of the queue again but wait times are so short now anyway, well worth doing.

      • Thanks!

        • No worries mate! You’re going to love your Tesla when you get it!

    • +1

Yes, I rang Tesla and they said that's the only way to use the referral code. Hope that helped.

      • Thank you ❤️

    • I am on the same boat as well. And wondering whether I should cancel and re-order (with the referral link) to get the extra benefit.

      • Yes, that's the only way if you have already put an order through. VIN assigned or not, doesn't matter. Tesla not playing nice! Dropped you a note.

      • Yep only way to get the saving if you already have an order. Worth doing though to save the extra $350 after losing your $400 order fee, and get the 3 months free EAP. Even that’s still a lot better value than the 1500 credits or whatever it was previously.

    • +3

I just received a SMS from Tesla to say that my order is eligible for the $750 discount, ordered the Tesla on Tuesday 4th July.

      • I unfortunately didn't order with a referral, and I ordered last month 😔

        • -1

just cancel it and reorder. the waiting time is very short anyway. otherwise message tesla and ask if you can add referral now, see if they will help?

          • @wiltonson: What's your definition of "very short"? This is very misleading. My colleague waited 7 months for his RWD Model Y. He collected his car 2 weeks ago.
It's been 5 weeks since I placed my order and I still don't have a car allocated. People should consider their own circumstances and decide if the $350 saving is worth it. If you cancel, you will go to the back of the queue.

            • @lazybones1987: I guessed it depends on which color and model you ordered.

One of my friend ordered her white MY RWD on 30th June and she is collecting the car tomorrow. Maybe she got someone's cancelled order?

I ordered mine on Sept 2022 and i only collected it on 20th May.

              • @wiltonson: Your friend highly likely got a cancelled order. Tesla had a good stock of Model 3s in the inventory, but not so much for Model Y.

                • @lazybones1987: Interesting Update - My friend is collecting her car tomorrow, and she just received an email confirming she is qualified for the $750 discount. This is despite she already paid everything and final invoice issued!

                • +1

@lazybones1987: No she bought the Model Y RWD

      • Did you get an email with the updated invoice (with the $750 discount)? I also received a SMS but didn't receive any updated invoice.

        Thanks.

    • EAP for 3 months

    • Yes correct but if you were referred they are back dating this offer to existing orders.

  • -8

$TSLA is not a pyramid scheme nor a cult LOL

  • +1

Why do they need a referral program? I thought people couldn’t get their hands on one fast enough?

Have sales dried up or have competitors entered the market and undercut Tesla pricing?

    • Clearing old stock

      • There's no such thing as "old stock". It's not like they have cars lying around in warehouses waiting to be sold like the traditional dealers. In fact, most new cars are built once an order is placed.

        • They do. Tesla has over capacity and it is the biggest thing to watch if you are an investor.

    • Has sales dried up? The short answer is no

      https://www.drive.com.au/news/vfacts-june-2023-tesla-sales-r…

    • +2

Ramping up sales to take advantage of state incentive programs. For example 6k in QLD.

      • +1

That makes sense. Thanks for the reply.

Not sure why I got negged for asking a question though.

        • I thought people couldn’t get their hands on one fast enough?

Think this part made the post come across sarcastic rather than curious. Communication's hard on the internet.

    • One of the talk is tesla want to sell as many cars as fast as they can. Competition is driving this also. But increasing the market share helps to bring in revenue which they can use for research and growing faster.

  • +1

If you own (or have previously owned) a qualifying product, and you subsequently purchase an additional qualifying product with the same Tesla Account, you may also qualify for the cash awards and benefits listed above.

Sooooo if I own a Tesla and order another tesla, I get a discount?

    • Yeah you get the same $750 off and 3 months enhanced autopilot

  • -5

Does it really make sense to go electric? Have seriously considered but couldn't get pass my head…

    1. High initial cost.
    2. High depreciation rate.
    3. Potential lower running cost if charge at home, but cost the same per KM when using commercial fast charger.
    4. High environmental cost to decommissioned battery, which may become financial cost when government starts to seriously regulating vehicle battery disposal in the future.

Still sticking to my ICE sedan, although it is more than 10 years old now.

    • +2
      1. High initial cost: Pretax and ex-GST if the company you work for offers a novated leasing option. Also Tesla Model Y now starts from around the same price as a high-spec Rav 4.
      2. Check again - there is no evidence to support EVs depreciating at higher rates than ICE vehicles.
      3. Even using only fast-charging (and why would you) you will find that the EV is cheaper than an equivalent-size vehicle. If you can charge using your own solar at home charging is almost free.
      4. Agree - a currently unknown future concern.
      • Can someone explain what I'm missing about why novated leasing is good? I ran the numbers a few years ago and after including the balloon payment at the end, it seemed like it worked out more expensive than buying outright (though I may not have taken into account that repayments include fuel/services/things beyond just the car).

        • +1

There’s no FBT on EVs now. So the payments arr taken out of your pretax salary.

        • Often times people see total amount under NL which includes fuel rego etc and compare it to a regular car loan which only shows finance payments and automatically think it’s more expensive. But with ICE cars, you will pay a large portion in post tax salary. With EV it’s all pre-tax

    • +4
      1. Rebates on offer in many states. $6k off in Qld. Or if you’re able to access novated leasing, entire car paid from pre tax. Depending on your tax bracket that alone brings it down to similar price as many comparable ICE.
      2. What evidence do you have to support that at all? So far EVs have held their value incredibly well due to lack of supply. And now that supply is coming there is no evidence that they would depreciate any faster than any other new car. Also imagine buying a new ICE now, now that’s going to have some huge depreciation in 5 years time when the entire world has gone EV.
      3. Most people do over 80% of their charging at home. And even charging at DCFC it’s still cheaper than fuel, albeit not drastically different.
      4. There are already multiple companies working to recycle used EV batteries. One of the original guys that started Tesla and who is now back on the board, owns such a company. Also the batteries are proving to last an incredibly long amount of time. Tesla’s that are approaching 10 years of age and over 400,000km on them are getting around. And still with over 70% of their battery.

For sure the questions are relevant and it depends on how you use it, but to try to be helpful:
      1) buying cash upfront right now IS a mistake, and one I made 2.5 years ago, paying through the nose to stop using diesel (a good deal for someone else though)… however leasing with the FBT exemption can bring the base model 3/Y to be cheaper than a camry/rav4 in total ownership costs… So long as you have this option, it's not really a high initial cost.

      2) Depreciation to date seems similar to other cars, maybe more when they keep doing price drops, aye, see point 1. however higer priced things are still higher price once depreciated so the "high upfront cost" as with everything becomes a cost on changover to a new car.

      3) in 2.5 years we've only done one road trip where I was reliant on a fast charger to get home (Syd > canberra > drive about > can > syd) - the first 400km of that was basically 17~c per kwh and the last over ?52c? - total "fuel" for the trip (700km) was about 140 kwh / 60/40 home vs supercharger, total cost $43
Nobody "supercharges" everywhere as you always set off with a "full tank" .
The fact is I have a choice here, If you have a house and solar, you can "lose" your $0.075 feed in tarriff and pay as little as $1.50 per 100km of driving, I cannot do that with petrol, no choice there at all. In reality our habits in summer are about 50/50 solar and grid, more like 25/75 in winter, that bumps our power to 27c per kwh, so worst case "all grid" power would be $5.40 per 100km of driving, which is of course much worse but it is nowhere near the 7/l per 100km of our hybrid $13.30 per 100km at $1.90 a litre.
Superchargers are getting up there, but if you needed them ALL the time then I'd suggest a hybrid is more convenient and worth the slight fuel premium for the cheaper car.

      1. There is no high environmental cost to decomissioning a battery, not now, not ever. The high environmnetal cost is BUILDING the battery.
Assuming a small failure rate (and yes recycling needs to be figured out at scale for those) - the expected life is longer than the vehicle and they embody significant $$$.
Let me put it this way… many people in history got rich by recycling poo and wee, we're talking about high value metals here that can be reused. EVEN if they were thrown on a skip at 10 years old, the'd have already paid off their dues in terms of embodied energy, and still be recyclable.

however… and an important thing… an electric car is only "green" in the sense the fuel cycle is cleaner, it is NOT greener to build, nor greener to recycle. it is greener to use in the sense it is a cleaner tech but you are not saving the world by buying an electric car. get a bicycle if that is your thing.

Is it a better choice than a pertrol / diesel powered car, I believe so, but only where it "makes sense".
For me, family of four, 10,000km a year, home charging with solar and little in the way of long range trips it DOES make sense.

      • +1

Thanks, this is a great response. So to me unfortunately still unable to "make sense" switching - I am not one of you who has the privilege of leasing, so sad.

Did read about depreciation in US and UK markets since they have longer historical data and EV tend to do worse than ICE. Anyway I'm glad you guys find that EV does not depreciate any worse than ICE in Australia, assuming you are using same periodic dataset and not comparing depreciation of ICE in 2015 with EV in 2022 for example.

A bit taken aback by your "no environmental cost at disposal" claim, very interesting read. I guess you could be right assuming that there is nothing in the old batteries to neutralise after salvaging useful bits and can be safely disposed the traditional way, could even be a positive thing because of salvaged goods offsetting the energy spent to recover them. However, you and I both know government isn't going to sit by and do nothing if presented a potential revenue raising opportunity…

Thanks again and very much appreciated.

      • The key factor here is short trips.

In long trips, I am happy to pay more so that I can complete the trip faster. For example my RAV4 can be driven cotinuously for 1000km as long as there are 2 drivers. No breaks; just sleep while the other person drives.

      • I don't think it makes sense for 10000km per year situation especially if you don't have the FBT. My Hybrind only uses up 5L per 100km. If you are running 50k year that might be worth it…. MAybe.

I agree with your green assessment. It's always greener to keep your existing car.

What are your thoughts about longevity. My last RAV4 is 300k now won't break. I still have 400km range in city and 460km in highway per tank. Hardly anything to maintain it per year say $150.

I just don't think any electric car will last 20 years and not require a MAJOR repair costing 30% of the value of the car.

Mind you this is also true for BMW, Merc and espcecially Range rover.

  • +2

I have a 3 and a Y. Sadly missed all the incentives. If anybody is on the fence about buying one shoot me a message. Happy to answer any questions.

    • +3

Hats of to you for taking the hit to make change happen. As my sister said, this is very expensive but it behooves those who can afford it to DO it so that it can become affordable for all. We're seeing this in action daily with EV's now reaching a spot where there is a price parity option if you're prepared to give up a little luxury interior in favour of a cleaner drivetrain…

There's an element of altruism to trying to buy what you feel is "the right way to go" and hang the cost.

      • -1

what do you mean "give up a little luxury interior"?

my 2023 model 3 interior feels much more luxurious and refined than my wife's 2022 BMW 3 series.

        • +1

I mean it's generally less luxurious and feels like a polyethelene seated plastic box? I do own the long range, luxurious it isn't.
a 3 series is not a luxury car either though… I paid $93k for mine, I'm just saying there were more luxury interior cars for those price points, feel free to disagree of course, I still chose one and would again.

      • I agree the interior feels cheap especially the steering wheel and general trims. The wood is nice. Where are the ambient lights?

How cheap is the sun VISOR? Be honest… ;)

  • All referees will receive $750 & 3 months of Enhanced Autopilot for the next EV (I'm planning to pass referee test & get BYD with Enhanced Autopilot;)
My teachER told me I'm good teachEE :P

  • That's awesome 👍😎

  • Never seen tesla deals in ozb due to affordability but today i learned that tesla has referral system, good to know. Next is cashback and bnpl :)

  • Has anyone here considered Mazda CX60?

    • +1

Range is about 220km. I couldn't even drive to Melbourne and back without charging.

Also; Mazda salespersons are not keen to sell them, went to a dealer that had one and they wouldn't even show me, just pointed at all the other cars they had.

    • +1

Worst electric car in history. MAybe even worst that that BMW i3. Just buy the TEsla as be done with it.

  • Out of interest, what benefit are the 10,000 referral credits to someone? Thanks.

    • +1

8000 credits give you a wall charger.

    • +1

Worth around $950-1000 in the store shop.

  • Just would like to ask once Tesla allocated you the vehicle and requested to be pick up when must you take delivery?

  • I'll go electric once Uber drivers do.

    • You can request a Uber green.

    • +1

They are. Met an Uber driver in Bris who said he used to pay $250 in fuel alone per week in a hybrid Camry. He is now leasing a BYD Atto 3 for $295/week.

  • How do i get a referral link? Do i need to own a tesla first or can i sign up?

    • -1

You need to own a tesla first.

      • Thanks. When does this referral expire?

        • I assume it stays with you until you get rid of your tesla (and your account).

    • You don't need to own one. You just need to have one placed on order :)

  • -2

buyer is already part of the Tesla community

You say community, I say cult.

Drink up that Kool Aid people.

    • +4

Haha. It’s some false idol or weirdo prophet we follow right?

We worship the cars! Go test drive a model 3, turn the music off and plant your foot. Try telling me you didn’t smile

Join the community or cult or rest of us happy owners whatever you want to call it. Many bmw 3 series and Mercedes c class cult followers have already seen the light LOL

      • Is it any different to other EV cars from other makes? (For same size, similar price)

        • -2

Sure is different - bigger panel gaps, for better air conditioning, The MuskyOne disabling features at random….and you get to ensure His Royal Muskness can continue his empire by contributing funds to the cause.

But in all seriousness, I’d rather get a Polestar for a few dollars more.

          • +1

@NinjaChicken: Tried the polestar. Really liked it. Loved the look and it’s a comfortable car to sit in. Driving is nice but it feels heavy. The internals are a bit off. Being base on a ICE platform is disappointing. The rear seats are not great. Really only a 4 seater and the storage and uneven armrests in the front are poor

The real disappointment for me was the price. The safety features are like $3500 extra so on the road the car you really want is over $70k. And it’s not really better than a model 3. In my opinion it’s actually a step down in many ways

        • +1

If you are interested go drive a few. We drove a lot of cars, even ICE and hybrids.
In the end the teslas were far better bang for buck.
We also have a BYD ATTO 3 which was $15k cheaper than a model 3 at the time. Now that’s less than $10k cheaper and it’s questionable if it is better value.
I’d look at the entry MG EV4 if you need a city car predominantly. It’s good value for an EV

          • @choofa: ATTO3 is not worth it I think. MG4 I agree. I hope it will last the miles though.

      • Yup. A mate of mine was an Audi fan and now drives a BYD. My other mate loves his Merc c250 and is just waiting for his wife to allow him to trade in for a an EV

  • Maybe this is a dumb question, but if you refer numerous people is it cumulative, i.e. if you refer 2 people it’s $1500, 4 people $3000 etc.

    • You are not getting $750, buyer is getting $750 off on their car purchase.

Yes you will get 10000 credits for each referral. Please read carefully.

      • It's a Tesla Pyramid scheme.

      • Ah… I see, so would I be able to get 50,000 credits if I referred 5 people? (The max per calendar year) and if I did 5 in dec and 5 in jan, could I accrue credits so I had 100,000 credits?

  • +1

Wow - also applied to already ordered, paid, non delivered vehicles which used a referral code when ordering!

  • What does 10,000 point get you?

    • +1

8,000 points for a wall connector which costs $750. So 10,000 is worth approximately $940.

  • Is summon any good?

    • Yes if you are being summoned by the court. Tesla summon is a joke and probably illegal in Australia.

  • +1

Finally ordered one… thanks op… getting zappi installed to take advantage of solar pv…

  • +2

A friend of a friend ordered a Y using my code today. Ready for delivery on Monday! Must have had one matching his spec on hand.

Guess I’ll get the wall charger. I’ve been using the portable charger.

    • How long does it take to charge your car with the mobile connector?

      • Depends on the model and battery size and speed
With a STD range model with 60kw battery
10amp gives approx 2kwh charging so 0-100% takes approx 30 hours,
15amp gives 3kw charging and 0-100% takes approx 20 hours
32amp gives 6.4kw charging ad 0-100 takes approx 9 hours

New cars don't come with the UMC any more, so you have to buy it ($550), and the 32a tails are not included and are additional (around $175-$300)

        • Does the new rwd model 3 come with 60kw battery? So with the UMC I'll need to buy the 32a tail aswell? Does this charge at a fixed amp or do you choose?

          • @FrugalFrodo: I think the new Model 3 is expected to have a bigger battery, but hasn't been confirmed. I expect it would be 65-75kw, so maybe add 10-25% extra on those times depending on what is delivered.

You don't need the 32a tail unless you want to wire up a 32a power point in your home, or have access to 32a power points on industrial sites or caravan parks.

You most likely will only use the 10a tail, as the 15a tail requires a 15a outlet which most houses do not have. Some people already have them in their garages or just them wired up.

You can choose what charging rate you want - but only up to the maximum the plug takes. So if its a 10a socket, then you can set the rate to 1-10a in the app.

      Referral Bonus -$750

      Here perhaps

      • -1

But drive away price is still the same with or without the credit. Drive Away Price $61,128

        • It will be on the invoice, you should only be billed for the driveaway price, minus the referral bonus and state-based-rebate.

If you go through finance, you should get finance for the whole price and get a refund from the financier for the bonus and rebate.

        • No, it isn't. Just checked myself.

          With referral:
          Drive Away Price $60,364

          Without:
          Drive Away Price $61,128

Not sure why yours is not updating the DA price with the discount on checkout. Try a different browser or something. I doubt it matters too much, I assume it would be correct on the actual invoice.

  • I own a Model X that I purchased 2nd hand. Does that mean I get the $750 as I do not have a Y or 3 as an existing product?
I am guessing I need a referral link as well.

    • +1

You can get your referral link via the tesla app.

If you purchase another tesla you can get the discount and 3 months EAP.

  • Is it possible to 'refer' a spouse who has already setup a tesla account to access our existing model 3? Would she count as a 'new' buyer?

    • Just order it via your own account. It’ll still count and you’ll get the discount.

      • But you won't get the referrer bonus right? - thats worth a free wall connector and some supercharging
I'd be inerested to know if referring a spouse works or not

        • Yeah, don't think you'll get referrer bonus. But depends on whether you have a wall connector or not already.
I would assume referring a spouse would work, they're not the primary account registered owner of the car.
