I've seen a few companies doing things like this. Surely Toshiba would have some paperwork or something for HN to fill out, a claim form or something to prevent this? Or perhaps Toshiba have authorised it?
These are sent with initial stock from the distributor and what HN choose to do with them is their business. It's a very common scenario, and the actual "cost" to HN is $0. For $10, it's not bad, about on par with cheapies from eBay but convenience of local pickup.
Is this only at Harvey Norman liverpool or would it be other Harvey Norman's as well
I saw it at the the Liverpool store, you could try calling up others to see if they have it, but it was definitely a clearance thing.

The Elgato is one of the few that supports Mac. Its very unlikely this HN one will work.
These the Kaiser Baas ones? I've got a set of them and they seem to work pretty well!
Just beware that you may have to go chasing drivers to get it to work properly with Windows 7 ;)… and 8 for that matter! ^^They do look like the Kaiser Bass ones, at least the white box and image reminds me of them.

I'd buy one for this price, but it's not near me. Not worth paying postage for someone to ship it to me either.
I would prefer a mini sized one, i saw one on cotd recently and nearly bought it.I miss my old laptop's express card slot, with an AverMedia card that doesn't stick out at all, sits flush with the side of the lappy so you can leave it in.
What is the model/chipset? Would be worth it if MythTv supports this hardware.

These are the ones that were given away by HN Newcastle about 3 months ago if you liked their FB page. Never got around to using mine yet…
It's not just from Toshiba laptops either. We were suppose to get one with our HP laptop, so makes you wonder which other brands are suppose to get them.
And they wonder why people aren't buying from retail stores when they short change their customers like that.
tried HN in city and boardway today, NONE.
