    Most likely gonna be UK plug

    Wifi Routers made for the UK usually have nerfed transmit power for 2.4ghz, (UK TXpower = 100, Australia TX power = 200). Not sure if installing a different firmware can allow you to over-ride this restriction

    • +6

      It’s a hardware restriction, firmware can’t change it. Personally I think it negates the entire purpose of such a high-end model if you buy from the UK.

      Thank you. I never saw this caveat mentioned in all my router model suggestions.

        Asus AU won't cover your warranty if there is a problem. You have to send it back to Amazon UK for warranty.

    • Yup, I threw mine on ebay and bought the DSL version from a local seller. It has a stronger signal. I can even get a trickle of internet down the street from me.

  • Need the modem…not just a router
    Grrrr

      Model name for ASUS networking devices will tell you if has modem function or not.

      Routers = RT (e.g ASUS RT-AX82U)

      Modems = DSL (e.g ASUS DSL-AX82U)

      For TP-Link, also easy to work out. If it has a V in the name, that would be a VDSL modem.

      Routers = AX (e.g Archer AX55, Deco X55)

      Modems = V (e.g Archer VR400, Archer VR2100v)

      • Couldn't trouble you for a recommendation could I :)
        Just crappy 50/10 fttn, single story house

          Do you already have a modem at home or are you starting from scratch, no modem and no router?

          Twix can probably give you better advice, I'm not super up to date with networking hardware.

          • @scrimshaw: no worries, I just have a D-Link DSL-2885A but truthfully it's not likely the issue in any event so probably best I leave it and hope for fttp eventually!

      • Yes i know ;)

    • yeah, this one always goes on special, never the dsl version

    • If by modem you mean plugging this into your NTD and putting in your ISP's username and password to connect to the internet, then yes, this has that.

      • +1

        This would be ftth version then?
        I need DSL version for fttn..

        That is what i mean ;)

        • Ah. Yup. Sorry. In that case, I'm pretty sure it's just a router. What you could do is plug your existing router into this. But I can imagine it would be messy.

          • +1

            @BadGiraffe: The reason i need a new modem is because the current one isn't very good…

    I got one of these for a similar price a while back and it has full functionality and performance. Only thing required is a simple plug adapter, or you buy an Australian power plug for $10,

    Great deal.

  • +2

    i had this one and replaced it with asus rog rapture gt-ax6000 - oz plug and its 4 times better
    wouldn't touch another UK router - only maybe if you have a small apartment but they are not suited for a house

  • Thinking about an AU version of this to put in the back shed as an AI-Mesh node to my 2 88U's in the house

    eBay seems to get good pricing from time to time on the AU ASUS gear from what I've seen

  • The DSL-AX82U version may be much more expensive but you don't need to buy another modem and it has a stronger signal than the UK RT version.

    I got my DSL-AX82U from an ebay plus deal for $404.
